Really good, as always the chapters capture you. I look forward to the time you can update. I'd be interested in what Katze has to say to Jupiter about Riki.

Not certain if you know this:

Yes, we do put the family name in front of the first name in Japan, but in other languages we adapt - which means that in English, German, French, Italien or whatever we would not say "Yoshihara Rieko", but "Rieko Yoshihara" just as you would say John Miller and not Miller John. Saying "Yoshihara Rieko" in English sounds a bit, well, pretentious, to be honest (like saying: "Look how smart I am! I know how to say it the way they do in Japan!").

Apart from that, not a bad story. Will keep an eye on it to say if you abandoned it or are going to continue eventually.

    (3) Yay! chapter three... wait, when did you post chapter two?! I am so far behind *headdesk*

I had felt going into this that there was no way that you were actually going to do anything too horrible to Katze him being such an integral part of the story and all but this is AnK and anything can happen and be justified. But what did happen was certainly surprising, it almost seems Jupiter wants to pump him for info.^^ It's not every day that she would have a mongrel in her chamber, I could definitely see it using this as an opportunity to learn some new things, almost like an experiment ;) The rest of Katze's encounter should be interesting, I can't wait to see what else Jupiter is after and also what if anything is going to happen to Katze.

As for Guy, crazy as always but I liked the interaction between him and Riki. In a way I thought that it showed they both had seemed to move on and who knows maybe they could be friends again. (while i say that i also acknowledge there will always be residual feelings from everything that's happened, good or bad.) And what is it with Donovan and nicknames, Baby, Kiddo, he's a great character but then he would have to be in order to be with Guy ^_^

On a little side note, I almost forgot to add that I loved Katze and Iason's walk through the gallery I thought it was really descriptive :) Glad to see the story hasn't been forgotten and I'm sorry that it's taken me forever to respond but I'm looking forward to the next chapter and I'm definitely making a point of checking for updates ;) Hope your doing well and everything is good at your end of things :)

    Yay !
Thank you for another amazing chapter. I read it two days ago, but couldn't review... But there you have it. Jupiter's intentions are kind of ambiguous... Where is she leading poor Katze ? And what of Admon & co ? Can't wait for the answers already !

Finally! a much wanted update! Thanks :D This is getting better and better. I loved the meeting between Riki and Guy, especially when they both realized that they didnt want each other in 'that' way any longer, and Riki's possessiveness in how he referred Iason and his reaction to that possessiveness.

Katze... it pains me that Jupiter has him and what she is doing to him. I thought that she wanted only Katze but now from the last sentence it sounds like she wants information about Riki? ....i want another update >.

Before I begin, you are first going to have to cut me some slack here. It is all interpretation, and lets face it no matter how hard I try I am never going to see your Jupiter as you do. So just please accept, I don’t see a bucket of bolts with no gender, and lets leave it at that....

Guy and Jupiter on the same page....For all Guy’s insanity, there is a logic here, he is right in that. Every move he is making is thought out. There is a "why" behind it, even if the ‘why’ is not in a context we can accept.
And the same is going on with Jupiter. We have no idea on what her ‘why’ is ( or at least I don’t), but she is going through the same motions as Guy to get answers/satisfaction.

Katze’s training as ‘furniture’ comes into play here as well Why else would Jupiter say : “Very good, indeed, challenging yet not.”. This is an aspect of his personality that Raoul has commented on throughout BMR. And perhaps it is this aspect that will buy him some time.

Interestingly enough, I don’t believe that Jupiter was commenting on Raoul worrying about Katze at that moment. Jupiter always centers more on Iason and his ‘feelings’. And I am sure that ‘she’ is keeping tabs on him because he is right outside that door waiting.

Sadly, Katze automatically allows his silent thoughts to focus on Raoul, which throws the ball once more into Jupiter’s court. She knows absolutely now where his greatest weakness lies.

But it is the Dark Mongrel she wants info on. And she wants it without the emotional baggage that Iason carries....the question is ‘why’? Curiosity, jealousy or something else again that I don’t see.

Now before you start screaming that she can’t be jealous because she is a genderless machine, let me just define ‘jealous’ as I am seeing it here. Iason is her creation, her best and first. Possessive creature that she is, I’m sure she doesn’t care if he has a dalliance or such any more. But since madam is able to get past the surface, she can damn well see that Riki is now ‘first’ with Iason. And that is the rub....

And just for something completely different....Guy and Riki.
Well even though Guy has moved on, there will always be Riki issues...hey that’s human nature...What is more interesting is Riki’s thought process has he refers to ‘his’ Blondie and having sex with someone else (Guy) is no longer an option. and does a double take. These thoughts are not those of Pet, or a man who is a possession. This is a man who has laid claim to someone and is remaining faithful to his partner, not out of fear, but out of honest commitment.

So as we say the plot thickens....and with only 4 more chapters to go (?) a lot has to get covered to reach a conclusion. Hopefully RL gives you a bit of free time to indulge. :)

Most of the action/thought process in this chapter has been done by Katze except for (well to me anyway) one key point...."Raoul’s Katze" what a curious phrase to come out of no where. Somewhere in that walk, Iason's guilt/perspection has jumped a mile and he no longer is seeing his 'ex furniture which still belongs to him' but a being who 'belongs' (in an unElite way) to his friend. And Katze then walks into the Lion's Den, having the last word, leaving Iason to ponder...and boy does he have a lot to work out in that convoluted Elite head of his....

Curiously though, during that walk Katze hears a voice this time telling him to stay focused. No guess as to who that is. But the female pet and her master? Well disguise is easy enough to do, the point is which twin is it? Anja is my guess but then Admon with a few tweeks could pass as female in the right robes...but the Master?....well probably way off the mark here, but only Kato comes to mind, unless Admon is a shape shifter...nah......couldn't be....although bare feet really sounds more his style...

Now leaving for the moment that hall of hell, lets get back to something we haven't seen since almost the beginning of BMR...an old desk that Raoul treasures for its imperfections. Can I be hopeful here that his thoughts "There were hours of buffing in his immediate future if the offensive footwear continued to accost its surface with sporadic, jarring dissonance and scraps." Are actually a foreshadowing in the future, meaning that a certain Red Head is going to come back battered and bruised (well if you are facing down Jupiter, you don't expect to come out unscathed) and is going to be petted, pampered and loved as he regains some normality in his life...maybe I'll get that satisfying ending here rather than another 'not happy Jan' final chapter.

And to close, it was nice to see Riki thinking rather than emoting. Infact if you want to come down to it, both mongrels are 'thinking' while the Elites in their lives are falling prey to the emotions that they aren't supposed to admit to.

Interesting to read as always. Hope you won't make us wait to long for the next ::evil wink::

Oh yay! A sequel, I have to admit that I was having withdrawals, and now I'm wondering what Jupiter is going to do to poor Katze. Looking forward to the next chapter.

    (1) Absolutely loved that interaction between Katze and Iason at the beginning, they certainly play off of each other really well. Probably comes from having known each other for so long, although even Iason seemed a little surprised at Katze's reaction to the coming meeting. I don't blame him though, Katze does seem rather laissez-faire about the fact that he may not come back from this. He's always seemed to understand more about his situation than most of the others and understand just how bad consequences could get.

Riki should be interesting since he obviously knows something is up, that intuition of his is just not going to let things go. As is obvious by the fact that he want to Raoul, isn't it strange what can bring two people together, seems Riki and Raoul can find common ground. And I couldn't help but like that in the middle of everything that's going on Raoul's reaction to Riki's attitude was one of exasperation where we all know that at one time he would have thought and reacted in a very different way.^^

As for Niiro beyond him being his normal obnoxious self and definitely shocking Raoul off his game, I think for now he's confirmed much of what we had expected. It's amazing that all of this came about from what seems like a whim on the part of these Elite. Not necessarily surprising considering I doubt they've really ever had to think too much about the consequences of their actions especially when it comes to what they think of as the unimportant people of the world. They're individual reactions to what they have done should be interesting and I wonder when considering who exactly this 'experiment' involved how that will colour how they look at things. (did that sentence even make sense, it's late you'll have to forgive me^^)

Anyhoo, I have been looking forward to the next part of your story, I'm just sorry it took me so long to get around to reading and reviewing. Life got rather busy this week, as it's wont to do and as I'm sure you understand^^ it's taken me about three different tries before I was actually able to get through the whole chapter and it was well worth the effort :) I hope you have a good weekend and it isn't too chaotic and I'm looking forward to this next part of your story ^_^

And so it begins... Fantastic start, picking up the story right where you left it. I have been looking forward to this sequel and cannot wait to see what you have in store, Lady EP! Thank god there are still gifted, brilliant authors like you and Ainzfern around who provide first class Ai no Kusabi fanfiction that respects and honors the original story, the characters and its author - AND who do so for FREE (unlike certain other people I could mention). You both are a TRUE credit to AnK.

If you don't find the time to update before Xmas: Merry Christmas to you and your family!

The ties that bind indeed....what exactly are they? Well lets start with the two in the car...
This is a different Katze from the one in the Not Happy Jan Chapter. This Katze feels he still has a hand to play in the game. A false premise perhaps, but at least he is thinking again.

Iason Mink, for all his physical perfection and super intelligence is a fraud. Do as I say, not as I do is his bylaw. He questions Katze on Raoul and yet when Katze has the chutzpah to throw a truth at him about his relationship with a Mongrel, his Excellency gets all uppity. For all his cool posturing, Jupiters' Chosen is an emotional mess. Since he cannot accept the fact that he does have feelings, his behaviour is erratic, violent, and at the best of times pensive. He has a conscience. Which is why this drive is not as Katze suspects a diversion to keep their destination hidden, but a useless stall because the last thing Iason wants to do is hand him over to Jupiter. ( He might live to serve, but it doesn’t mean he likes it. ) This is not a friendship, far from it, so perhaps we should call it loyalty. But it is something that ties them together. Iason feels guilt. And I say this because in BMR (that last chapter) Jupiter says to Iason

“ It will be painless, Iason. I will allow him that grace for the Creator’s sake.”

Why give this assurance at all, unless the machine (note the genderless word to describe the A1..and no I still disagree) senses the guilt in Iason over what he has to do. Forget his misgivings on how Raoul and Riki will act if the truth comes out. That moment was about his ‘feelings’ towards Katze and Jupiters request. Hence her intervention at that moment with her platitude as if this would make it all palatable and right.

And just as an aside, I loved how Admon made an appearance in this chapter….and you can’t tell me he didn’t…

The dealer felt a cold chill pass through him and he involuntarily shuddered before adjusting his jacket. How odd, just as it came it went quickly replaced by soothing warmth emboldening his confident stance.

That soothing warmth is Admon…..so even though he doesn’t realize it, Katze is not facing Jupiter alone.

Now I could wax on still about things that went on in this part alone, but lets get on to Riki…
Who though mongrel is more astute than his so called Master. How quickly he puts it together, his missing Com with Iason hovering over the jacket.

And, “you get what you paid for”….another true maxim. Riki acknowledges that he gets the finer things in life by being a ‘pet’. But, to be allowed that little bit of extra space, he has to also give up some fight, and submit more to Iason’s will.

However even in this he remains himself, constantly shoving it to the Blondie, knowing that those emotions are lying just below a fine surface. Is it any wonder then, he likes the idea that Iason has to show emotional restraint, if he wants to keep
a semblance of peace with his mongrel. He too has to know what battles to fight. And a pair of worn boots though irritating, is not worth the hassle of upsetting Riki. Oh yes, there is much tooing and throwing here on the little things by both of them. But it’s the big things that count in the end….

And lastly Nii Nii and Raoul….well Nii Nii is the consummate player. And if you get beyond the posturing and attitude, there is one truth here that can’t be over looked, no matter how Raoul wants to ignore it. The Elites in the scheme of thing may be the top of the pecking order, but they too only live to serve Jupiter. Personal freedoms are in fact limited to what Jupiter deems correct. And what better way to keep control than to make sure emotions don’t run rampart. The gloves are not a fashion statement, and relationships are banned for a reason. No one must come before the machine. No wonder there is hatred for the Mongrel who takes up so much of the Chosen One’s attention.

Well, my dear I’ll end my analysis here, although there is so much more I can go into ie Katze bringing Iason down to his level by using his name without a title, while giving Raoul his….but enough…

Great start, and I can see the 4 chapters has already increased to 7 (told you so) and only hope this tale doesn’t end on another Not Happy Jan chapter ::wink::

As always, looking forward to the next update.
