Reviews for Sinners

Reo690---But it is still widespread and dangerous; hate crime rate against homosexuals, for example, went up in the past year, not down...only behind racial violence and religious violence in terms of commonality. Hell, there was a terrible incident in California last year where half a dozen guys were beaten half to death at a gay pride festival, and I can think of multiple incidents of outright murder in the past year, like where a gay guy was stabbed to death because his attacker thought he was being 'hit on'.

And the hell of it is that we'll never know the true numbers, for the same reason that we'll never know the true numbers for domestic violence cases or rape cases: because the survivors are (rightfully, I'd say) afraid. Afraid of not being believed, afraid of retribution.

In terms of government discrimination, the people in the states don't have to worry about anti-sodomy laws anymore (all the ones remaining struck down by the Supreme Court in '03). It's more job discrimination that they have to worry about from the government (no protection from being fired for sexual identity in most places here), right to marry, etc.. Of course, there are still governments that prescribe a neck-popping or pistol party for homosexuals simply existing...but in terms of violence, it's typically the people that are the biggest threat in all quarters, regardless of what the state's stance is---I mean, the government can outlaw discrimination all they want, but that won't stop the offended citizenry's angry glares, the protests, or the lynch mobs when they rally in the name of God or Allah or morality or any other banner.

As y'all can probably see, this is more than just passing interest for me, heh.

GenoLiger---I'd rather have Gardevoir as a playable character. I'd love to pause the game and move the camera so I can see up her dress.

As long as she ain't got any Peach-esque shorts or anything, lol.

I hope they put Gardevoir in Brawl. She could be like one of the random pokemon that come out of the pokeballs. The thing is if it is used by a person playing as the Pokemon Trainer Gardevoir does somethign more than the usal attack. But thats just a idea for the game. Then they would probely have too up the rating too at least M.

Yes, I indeed know religious intolerance still exists, but you're making it seem like it's still a widespread and dangerous problem, when in most areas, it really isn't. I mean, when have you heard of a recent case of some homosexual guy getting murdered for his sexual orientation? But yes, there still is some discrimination from government (anti sodomy laws,) but before government can change, people need to change.

GenoLiger---Glad you like it, heh. I personally consider it to melt together like thin, sheer silk on Gardevoir, myself...oh ho ho.

First up, let me just say GAHHH MOTHERFUCKER, because I had a huge reply-to-reviews review ready to post, but when I clicked the review button, I got the AFF downtime message---and lost the whole thing. Fuck fuck fuck. It's really my fault for not checking the time, but bleh.

So, for brevity (as my patience is a lil frayed), I'll only respond to the reviews since my last message. Which will stay take a while, but...sigh.

Fluffy_lover---The additional sex scene wasn't written because there IS such a thing as 'too much sex' in a single chapter. However, looking back on the chapter, I think I could have had a moderately long scene there without sacrificing the flow. Alas, hindsight be a cruel mistress.

Yeah, things will get progressively darker...or at least more serious...as the chapters march on. But that doesn't mean a death to fluffiness, however; Hoenn isn't as small as in the games, where you could travel across the whole map in a few minutes. There will be times when they'll be traveling, far away from any people, and...yeah, heh.

When really critical and really lengthy plot developments occur, I'll either make a really, really long chapter, or write multiple chapters and upload them at the same time. I won't just leave everyone hanging when the Prophesy is about to revealed or something similar, heh.

Incidentally, I was referencing Satan's temptation of Jesus with that line, but lol. Lion King. Scar was awesome. Yeah, good job Simba, you killed an old man---hope you're proud of yourself.

Some more talk about 'where the fuck is Slash?'---Yeah, it took long enough. A month without internets was horrible. But now I have a new machine, one that is far younger and more POWERFUL, ha. Writing HAS commenced once again.

Imasuky Lomae---Well, the Prophesy---what's been revealed of it so far, anyway---is supposed to seem clear to us hardcore fans...although not to those in the Sinners world, of course. Three princes? Relicanth and Wailord? A King? We ALL know what's being referenced...but it's what y'all DON'T know that's important. Believe me, more than one character---and reader---will be surprised when the King's Tomb is finally revealed.

ThatGuy---Chapter 18 is written from my perspective---the author's. Y'all know I'm a fan of the Dark Tower books, and I agree with the whole the-writer-is-but-a-channel idea; and I also agree that, from time to time, the writer is allowed to intrude in on his own story, whether it be to make a brief comment (me not knowing whether Slash or then-Kirlia had the dream in chapter 10) or a whole chapter (this one).

Incidentally, I almost made 18 into plotmail for my mailing list (which anyone can join by e-mailing me at slashfirestorm@inbox.com!), but it ended up being so plot-critical that I had to making it available to all.

And as for the song...yes, it'll be heard again. And the next time it might be as loud as an orchestra.

Reo690---The anti-religion message really isn't that subtle; it hasn't been referenced much lately (not beyond 'we gotta be careful', anyway), but it'll be a major plot point later. Sinners is as much a commentary on religion-based discrimination as it is an adventure/romance, after all.

Religion-based discrimination DOES still exist, and it is much more prevalent than most people thing---simply because those 'most people' are the majority, and thus don't experience the actions against the minority. Anyone who thinks the problem isn't widespread hasn't been a gay guy walking about Pensacola, Florida, or an interracial couple spending a day together in Dadeville, Alabama.

The Jirachian views don't reflect any one religion or any one example of discrimination...it's actually formed from a combination of them all, so that the message may be more broad. The commonality of the bigotry is based on the multi-religion opinion of homosexuality, which even the 'non-religious' often share. The stupidity of it is based on the anti-miscegenation era of the United States, where interracial relationships were denounced with Bible verses and misuse (slander, even) of the term 'natural'. The hatred they show towards it is based on the modern societal views of incest or bestiality. Even the casual (yet catastrophic) dismissal of Pokemon as needing to be subservient is a reflection on the chauvinism that exists plenty today---oft-defended by religious references to the so-called women's place.

And in terms of relationships and sexuality, the message Sinners attempts to convey is the one Slash imparted to Kirlia a long time ago: as long as all parties involved are informed and consenting, it is no one's business but their own. You can disagree with homosexuality, or interracial marriage, or incestuous relationships, etc...but one should keep their nose out of their business and not pull any holier-than-thou attitudes or worse---outright discrimination and violence. Which, I assure you, is not limited to a handful of rednecks in the Bible Belt.

The lynch ropes and night sticks still come out when the wind shifts the wrong way, after all. And much more often than talking heads and religious figures would like us to believe.

Proximity Alert---Cliffhangers keep 'em coming back, heh. If I ended every chapter with "Slash sat down and opened a newspaper, and Gardevoir sipped from a glass of ice water", I wouldn't be getting death threats when I don't update, or have a large mailing list creaming themselves every time I send out some plotmail, ha.

And the next chapter will be a long, full-fledged one, not an interlude, lol. Don't worry.

You speak only in riddles, Sir! Why must all you authors be the same way?! Cliffhanger after bleeping cliffhanger! Gah! But I digress... Can't wait for the next chapter. It will be an actual chapter right? Or another Interlude? Either way, more of your amazing writing will be read. And I will be happy anew.

Very, VERY well written, but the one thing I don't like is the thinly veiled religious insulting, because it really doesn't tie into any real world religion, and I know you meant to. But Jirachianism is far too extreme to be considered a normal religion, because, except for the third world countries, religion isn't really rooted into
peoples lifestyle, unless you get into a place like the bible belt, even though 97% of the US is Christian.

Anyway, I hope you didn't get confused from my ramblings, and I hope the next chapter will be out soon.

Whoa...I have no idea what that was about, but it freaked me out, to say the least. Let's see here; Slash and Psymakio are part of it, and so is Kiako...but I wonder, who was doing the talking? Something tells me that this mysterious song will be brought up again, whether it be in the near future or in some far off chapter...

Three great Princes, their might combined,
Shall reveal the King's Tomb at the lowest tide...

I think anyone can figure it out with a bit of effort I realized it though sheer luck I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure I’m right infact i'm 99.999% sure of it. if anyone wants to hear my theory my email is bishonen20@hotmail.com
