Reviews for Sinners: Arc 2

Just finished reading your massive story front to back, and I gotta say, wow, I'm really floored. Your writing style is refreshingly unique, and my vocabulary increased, like, ten words just from reading it. (Not that I'll be using any of them during parties, but, you know) I've always been a sucker for romance stories (not the most manliest of hobbies, I admit), and yours and only one other has lifted my spirits to almost delusional levels. In a good way, of course.

One thing I wanna ask, though, is that you say you have no knowledge of the Pokemon franchise past Emerald. Then how do you know about Pokemon like Rotom, who were introduced in Diamond/Pearl? Just some minor research on the subject?

Oh, and, I saw that you mentioned you were a fan of Encyclopedia Dramatica a little ways up this page (thank goodness it lived, huh? Warriors of Lulz are victorious again!) I didn't bother reading the reviews past "ew, it's Pokeporn, that makes the whole story invalid", but I at least understood, from what you said, that someone insinuated that there was going to be an ED article on you? Well, just today, I decided to give it a search, and sure enough...

Just in case you haven't seen it, http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/Slash_Firestorm

Typical of EDiots, it's full of bias, but I still just wanted to mention it to you - any publicity is good publicity, right?

First book is "Wizard's First Rule". As I should have told you, it's in the fanstasy/swords and sorcery genre type. I assume that won't be a problem. It's very moral (in that it's pretty easy to see the author's moral viewpoint through the characters, but still contrasts with other characters of differing viewpoints).

Oh and... (cough) how far are you on the next chapter? :D

RoboRed---Heh. Well, when the character does die, just hope nobody remembers that I mentioned that. :-D

Max---My headphones are fucked up now, so I can only hear porn in one ear. :'(

RoboRed, Anon---I'd Limewire the song, but I'm kinda lazy at the moment, lol.

Ragdoll---Sad scene coming up (probably in 25 and not 24), although obviously the story won't be ending soon. Although even if it was going to end in six story months, it would take me a few FUCKING YEARS TO DO IT (one month has taken over a year thus far, lol).

My livejournal occasionally has major spoilers, since I sort of use it to talk to myself and the whole three or four people who spy on it, so I wouldn't recommend anyone who wants big surprises to check it out. If it ever becomes widely viewed, I might just lie a lot on it to hide my true plans. :-D

    Enjoi-Kurbai---Hm, I did, didn't I? Heh.

The Second Storyteller's got some interesting cats to let out of bags.

Knight---Glad you like it. Arc 2 will mostly be tense for the rest of it, then Arc 3 will be lots of traveling and fighting, Arc 4 will be holy-shitty, and Arc 5 (the Arc I want to write the most) will be very sad. Gotta hurry up...

Imasuky Lomae---All I'll say is that the Shadow is not an OC character; however, it's so Slash-i-fied that it may not immediately be recognizable (like Watson's backstory, which, as far as I know, is totally non-canon). Hints have been dropped already (an old plotmail I sent out with a Childe Roland-esque poem was the biggest hint), and it'll be pretty clear soon enough (like when the Second Storyteller outright identifies it).

Splenge---Well, it actually caused me to do MORE work, but it saved me from waiting until the last minute to do it, lol.

POWER OF LOVE WILL NOT SAVE YOU, LOL. THIS IS NOT POKEMONS ANIME. FRIENDSHIP DOES NOT GIVE YOU 1.5x BOOST OR PITY BADGES OR CURSE-BREAKING. :-(

Taonakku---Glad you like it. The story gives me a lot to think about, as well---lately the plot has dominated my thoughts and prevented me from dreaming about anything else...

chaoslord---The time limit has been in the planning for a while, although as I've previously mentioned, it was originally scripted to cause a much larger fight than the one in 22 (too large, really).

    1. Forbidden, a Star Wars slashfic by Raythe, formed the original inspiration for Sinners (link in my profile's Recommended Reading section). The nature of light and dark (specifically that they're not synonyms for good and evil), the bond, the theme of having a love despised by not just most of the world, but nearly all of it...it's a damn good read and this story would not exist without it.

In terms of the larger themes of Sinners, the Dark Tower books form a good deal of inspiration...other worlds than these, laws of reality breaking down under certain conditions...hell, the concept of ka (a sort of passive fate) is all but labeled later.

    2. Well, for Pokeballs, there are multiple stasis settings---mental stasis (no perception of time) or sensory input ('seeing' and being aware of what's going on, mainly for battles), and higher-end Pokeballs have limited physical stasis capabilities (though normal Pokeballs, such as what Slash currently uses, have virtually no physical stasis abilities). The Pokemon inside the balls aren't converted into data like in PC storage, but are in a state more like miniaturization (poison still moves, hunger and thirst still need to be addressed), and even the top-of-the-line balls can perhaps only halve those needs.

Pokeballs are also far more personalized than commonly shown in the games and anime. Identification information, health ratings, stuff like that can be displayed on the ball (a small little screen on it, with connection to computers allowing more details). No other Pokemon can be stored in a ball already registered to another; official release can only occur at Pokemon Centers and under supervision (to prevent abandonment as much as possible).

    3. Originally started as just...something I felt like writing. Like I said, Forbidden got a lot of ideas swirling in my head, but the original setup was made to range from shortish lemon to long-ass novel (obviously ended up being the latter, lol). Don't be afraid to use other sources for inspiration; just put enough of yourself in it to make it yours...or, if the inspiration is really heavy, attribute it in author's notes or whatnot.

Satoku---In the original plan for the curse, where Slash hides his contract from Psymakio until after Fallarbor, Psymakio was so outraged that she temporarily deactivated the bond (something she won't be capable of in the current version), the logic being that there's no reason for the bond if he's able and willing to hide things from her. It was going to be very sad and much more...loud.

Thankfully it ended up being brief and (relatively) less intense.

I tend to have a detailed outline for the next/current chapter, and lots of future-notes in various text documents. I have a notepad document for time stuff (moon phases, weather, travel times, etc), for important locations to be visited/revisited (the desert, in particular, has a couple), but no "outline for Arc 5, chapter 3" or anything, just a basic summary for each arc (which are constantly changing as I write). I can't really plan detailed chapters ahead of time, because I drift a little when I write (such as Flannery's intimate relationship with Blaziken) and can't be sure what'll be in place at the end of my current chapter.

I usually overwrite my chapter outlines for each new one, and often delete previous plot points as I write them for less clutter, so there really aren't any outlines for previous chapters, lol.

Also, lol at time delay. Yes, Silver is a mix of the GSC rival and the son of Giovanni from the manga (which I didn't actually read, just read about on Bulbapedia, heh).

Max---Haven't read them. If I remember, I'll take a look for them next time I'm at the bookstore.

Rozell---Glad you like it, and I intend to rock on with it for quite some time, heh.

Oh, and Slash: before I forget (again) have you read the Sword of Truth Novels by Terry Goodkind? This seems... similar and yet not.

If you haven't read them you damn well should. They're big books and there's 11 of them, but it's my all-time favorite story. Ever. I think you'd like it.

"I love you, Psymakio. Whatever I become in the future...whether a corpse or a monster...know that I love you. Forever."

The beauty of this line really struck a chord in my heart D:

Also, how do you do your outlines? I've been writing things off and on over the years, but absolutely nothing has taken off past vague ideas and a shitty first chapter, though recently I've got something that I think I can really write out now. Think you'll ever put an outline to one of your older chapters on the webernets one day?

    Hey Hey
Oh, trolls are bad, kill w/ fire or they come back. (Fucking regen)

anyway One hell of a fucking chapter. Did not see the time limit thing coming. Despite what the trolls say, this story has been making me think about things in an entirely different way. I dunno how you do it man.

    Questions:
    1) What was the story that inspired this?
    2) Could you elaborate one your rules for pokeballs/TMS ( if i missed it im sorry)
    3) How did you start writing this at all? I mean, i think i could write something really good, but im too afraid that i would to heavily reference other influences and get called out (ex: hey... this seems an awful lot like the scene in *movie/book*)

    Great story, Slash!
This is the best fanfiction of anything I've ever read and is in the top ten stories I've ever read, too. And, I've read quite a lot.
You've given me so much to think about by writing Sinners. Not just about the story, either.
And, this story does not suffer from the EPIC.

Two things in this review as I seem to be doing a lot:
    1) Glad I could be of service to you, and that my random wondering caused you to sit down and figure things out for later on. Perhaps I inadvertently saved you a bit of work, lol.

    2) A response to "Now we have a new cliffhanger in regards to the hourglass...how does one destroy the indestructible?":

My answer begins approximately 2 minutes and 15 seconds in.

I think that the shadow may not be Darkrai as we’ve all thought it might be Giratina I have only a theory mostly because it said the shadow appeared so suddenly and Giratina can travel freely between the worlds and in the game it was sealed away and Darkrai was roaming free I know slash only loosely uses the game as a reference but still. I know that I’m probably wrong about this but my Otaku brain chibi came up with it and the others said if he’s right than he’ll get a cookie if not than all the others are going to beat him with socks full of batteries and garden hoses full of ball bearings

    "Who knows where Jirachi is...

...and who says Jirachi isn't the one responsible for the curse in the first place? :-O"

Funny thing is, this is who I suspected did it seeing as how you used the word 'wish' a bit too many times to not be noticable.

Ugh, what's with all this radio-friendly rock and metalcore being suggested for my definitely metal-and-postrock-backed Sinners? You're not spared, either, Slash - the only time Bon Jovi nailed it was covering Bob Geldof :P

The background music in my head for Sinners is almost always Opeth. Grand Conjuration, Face of Melinda and Blackwater Park being the favourites. Pad that out with some of the more aggressive and lengthy Mogwai and you have a soundtrack fitting for such a grand story.

This new chapter is fantastic, Slash, though it's going to be a juggling act to set the proper mood - the TV series Supernatural couldn't do it (happy happy happy immadiesoon sad happy happy happy), but I think you can.

I already knew the answer to the baby hint. I'm henceforth forcing myself to stop stalking your livejournal and its comments.

Hey, It's the anon back again with a few more song suggestions now that I actually sat down and remembered.

    1. Waking the Demon by Bullet for my Valentine
This ones for those who like metalish (is that a word?) music, I thought this fit pretty well with the whole crazy, evil, murdering side of Slash.

    2. Reverse this Curse by Escape the Fate
This ones punk rock but it kind of made me think it fit into the whole, "OMG! I'm gonna die because of a curse and now my wife's gonna live without me!?!"

    *listens to song*

Oh yeah...I'd say it defiitely just about fits the theme to a T. :) I already love Coldplay anyways, I just never hear enough of it because I don't listen to music on the radio often.
