Reviews for A Small Town in America

In a way this reminds me of 'A Little Too Late', where Aya "gave up all that he was" to be with Youji, though reading this in 2007 I don't know which one was written first. This story does not feel finished to me, but it has accumulated enough momentum to rise up again and reclaim life. Supernatural elements aside, I love the way Aya's mind is starting to build coping mechanisms to deal with Youji's coma, and maintain a stasis in which, even if Youji never wakes, he never dies, either. Yet within that is still the part of Aya that wants to somehow help Youji regain the life he deserves. And if it is that evil Schuldig (gods, how I hate him!) who is holding Youji's spirit and preventing him from answering Aya, then the supernatural must be engaged and conquered. There are some awesome insights and lines in this story, like "sliding on lubricant and need". Aya's sword has become a metaphor for so much more than a cock. Amidst the 'white angels' there was also the angel with the flaming sword, instrument of divine righteous anger. I have always admired and enjoyed this author, and each retelling of the AyaxYouji love story s/he posts has its own unique appeal and twist that sets it apart from all others. The slashing of these two characters, whether Koyasu intended it or not, has enough elements of tragedy and pathos, love and hope in it to busy authors with take after take after take on it for years to come. And I hope pinkwhirlwind writes many of them. Well done! and please continue!

    Wow - great.
Style, words, pattern, rhythm, original idea - it all fits.

Will he wake up? Please, make him wake up and why
couldn't Schuldig sense him and why is it that always the sad stories
turn out to be the best eventually?

    Please, continue the fic.

    bye
