Greetings. :-) I am the Big Samurai. In the beginning, I had nothing to do with Pokémon. I had seen the anime, and I had disliked it greatly. Because I disliked the anime, I did not think to play the games for many years. Then, a good friend encouraged me to set aside my prejudice and give Pokémon a try. I did, and I was hopelessly addicted from the instant I popped my (used) copy of Sapphire into my GBA SP. I had been aware of Pokéfic for a long time, but I did not know if any existed for the games, so ... I searched. I combed through the section at AFF, and I found a challenge by Dark Hunger. I then found this story.

The issue that kept me off Pokéfic was the preponderance of two things: Stories that have people hooking up with Pokémon ... and stories that have two male characters from the anime hooking up. (Disclaimer: I have nothing against yaoi in principle, there is just too much of it.) Imagine my surprise at finding 1.) a standard-issue M / F story involving 2.) characters from Sapphire and 3.) no Pokémon in sexual roles. That, there, is the recipe for a lemon that I do not mind reading, and that is why the Dark Hunger challenges led me to browse further.

Of the four stories arising from the challenges that Dark Hunger submitted, this one is the best, in my opinion. (I like the art museum story, yes, but male-on-female statutory rape is not my thing, sorry.) May, in the game, if she is the 'rival' character, does seem to have a pushy streak, and the story bears that out to its sexual conclusion. I like the idea of Brendan (Seth) ― as the 'hero' character ― being a great Pokémon trainer, yet also being a dunce when it comes to females. May gets major points for knowing exactly what she wants ... and getting it. After a string of defeats at the hands of Brendan (Seth) and his Pokémon, it makes sense that May gets a victory of her own.

Because this is a standard-issue M / F story involving characters from Sapphire and no Pokémon in sexual roles, it deserves to get more reviews than it has, and I hope that this one lets you know that there are readers out here ― be they fans of the games or otherwise ― paying attention to what is written. Best of luck in writing your next story, and do not forget to update your disclaimers. (It is a shame when a story disappears.)

Hmm, I might answer that Dark Hunger challenge myself, one of these days. Who can say?
