Oh, I would love to use your article on my site, or at least portions of it (I just skimmed through it again and I might personally opt to remove the part about where you're sick of all the stories with BDSM. LOL.) I have an area for AnK where it would be perfect. Then we can include a link to your site if you have any more information there.

Thank you for understanding, Kira, and for saying this. If you want something like this on your site, you can take this article. That will solve your problem with the lack of time.
And to clear one thing up. People might think that I hate BDSM. That's not true. Sometimes I even like it -- and not necessarily its lightest version. I read Enslaving Heero with almost sick fascination. I also read Taming Riki (both to a certain point). This article was not meant against your series and it was not your series that made me write it -- at least not only and not directly. My direct stimulus was utterly different. Notice that there's only one point about BDSM, the rest is about other equally important issues.
I also never claimed that you didn't tell people that your series was AU, because you did. But there was so much of TR around and so few of other fics that at some point people started to behave as if TR reality was the only correct AnK reality. And that did bug me. It was very important for me to sort out this confusion, as much as to sort out other confusions (the issue with hair color of elites and mongrels being the best example).
I'm glad that we understand each other now.

Ah, you make some good points. I keep meaning to have something like this on my own site, because Taming Riki (my own AnK-inspired fic) is definitely very different than AnK canon and is pretty BDSM-heavy, too (which means you probably wouldn't like it, based on one of your points). But I never seem to have time to write something like this.

    Hey, Lena

I actually read this a very long time ago. I must say you really did a great job. It was extremely helpful in clearing up some of my confusion about ANK.
But hey, what do I see! It seems you really stepped on Kira's toes with this article. The way she reacted - reposting her fics and refreshing like crazy to boost up her frequency and lower your rating is simply unfair. And not only to you, but also to the other authors as she in fact made their stories disappear behind a few pages of her own fiction (and again!).
Well, I guess that only proves that you have a point. Thanks for the courage. I wish you all the best.

Wow! That really clears up a lot of questions. But really when you have only seen the anime which is focused highly on Iason and Rikis sexual relationship, it's hard not to think of the other elite as highly sexual beings, considering they have pets that are ment to be used sexually, traditionally.
I mean, what was the point of Jupiter building these people with the ability to have hard on's if they are ment to be above fucking?
Do the elite ever have their pets to service them? Or the elite are not to participate sexually at all?
What is the point of Pet copulation as entertainment?
There is a point of view that Iason was an android, is this true? I don't remember seeing bio-wiring when his legs were ripped off.
(I'm nieve; please bare with me) I'm sure I'll come back to you if I have more questions.

    Dear Lena.

Thank you very much for making these points clear. I myself am new to Ai No Kusabi, but I strongly value the tenets of canon in any fandom. I guess I'm thinking of the creators. They spent a lot of time and energy creating the characters and the worlds that spark an answering fire in thousands of fans around the world. I haven't read an English translated version of the original Ai No Kusabi, but I would love to if I could find one. In the meantime, just let me say that I have great respect for your skills as a writer and your adherence to canon. I'm so glad I found you first when I went looking for A.N.K fan fics, because I truly value good writing, and I found in yours an almost exact approximation of the world I had just left in the anime. Thank you again for taking the time to write fiction for people like me and to outline common myths for our edification.

I don't know Ai no Kusabi and was just randomly browsing around when I stumbled on your text, but I wanted to leave a review to applaud your idea of writing such an article. :D

I agree so much with this:
    >>I absolutely don’t claim that fanfics must strictly stick to the canon.
    >>I love many AnK stories that do not. However it would be good to know
    >>the true picture to be aware what we choose to ignore. Or to be able
    >>to avoid untruths when we want to stick to the canon after all.

Way too many series suffer from that phenomenon nowadays, where people start writing fanfiction or building information websites (!!) based solely on random info they've gathered on the net, or often found in fanfiction, and it is so very sad.
While I do find that one doesn't have to remain fully faithful to canon for a fic to be good, I strongly believe that one cannot give a good/fully enjoyable for the readers depiction of a series if he/she doesn't actually masters said universe. It's one thing to choose AU settings or modify things to the point where it's almost a different story, but I believe it must be done with knowledge of the canon, like you said. Only then the characterization can actually be good and believable. :D
One can only chose to ignore something if they already know that stuff, and not if their knowledge of the series is based on incorrect info. :)

I hope that your article helps your fandom! ^_^/
