Chapter 19 -- Well, that little road trip has GOT to be Rin's wake up call! Manji's marked her and she's his now... Of course, neither one of them would be in a position to realize that those days in the hut were all about imprinting... she's a kid and he's a supernatural misanthrope. What an interesting situation you've put them in!
I think Dark Horse has left off at what they're calling Volume 14 and the Japanese version is up to Volume 18... If you don't mind my asking -- since you've had them leave the hut now and Giichi never visited... are we officially out of canon into AU territory? I sort of hope so because I'm sure YOUR version of the story from here on out will be much easier on the stomach than Samura-sensei's... I love this manga but Vol. 13 - 18 in the Japanese are ... um...challenging.

Chapter Nine -- Man, truer words! And they don't just apply to Rin and Manji. From the minute people figure out the differences are interesting and there's more to friendship sometimes than just beer and sushi, things get complicated. Rin's musings are quite to the point. It's interesting how interesting all the struggles of people to bridge the gap between each other still remains, even after none of it is very surprising anymore.

Chapter 11 -- This was funny! What an honourable lout the old hundred hatamoto slayer is! “Whatcha makin’ it so complicated for?” The perpetual male cry when presented with women's questions! LOL This just gets better and better. Rin's on her own ground in this particular battle even if she hasn't figured it out yet. Maybe the ignorance of young women regarding their own power is kami-sama's way of protecting men. A little.

Chapter 15 already! I intended to write another note to you well before this but your story sort of sucked me down a rabbit-hole and I came up here! This is such a wonderful coming-of-age study for Rin! It's charming and so realistically portrayed. She's beyond lucky to have Manji to get through this with... I love the way you're unfolding her inner young woman from the girl... All the horrible swings of mood and uncertaintly mixed with convictions of her own power. It's really delightful. I feel kind of bad for Manji in all this, really. What a spot to be in! Damned either way... in this chapter, I get the impression he's sort of giving up and just enjoying it while it lasts.

Chapter 16 -- Uh oh. Sounds like Manji's getting all emotional and 'womanly' in this one... It's funny, too, because Rin is pulling back in the face of his increased emo. I love this push-me-pull-you! Such a great condensed description of men and women!

Chapter 16 -- Well, Rin's learning a lot more than just tab-A-in-slot-B! She'll be a perfect little man-handler by the time the flood goes down at this rate! Oniisan's skills just don't include subtle human interactions, huh? This is intriguing!

I'm not sure if this app tells you what chapter's being reviewed... I'm on Chapter Two --
I've seen the art that demonstrates kissing in earlier Japanese times. I've read that it was considered highly erotic and as you say here, actually considered more part of the sex act than anything else. It's odd that the more I learn of old Japanese culture, the more highly charged those pictures become -- when I first saw them I was surprised to learn they were considered risque... Now they look quite erotic, I find.
That was a great chapter -- I liked Rin's solution to her own dilemma -- send him packing! Or at least try to and see if it works... She may be naive but she has pretty good instincts. I sort of feel sorry for Manji here; a woman in her state of mind is like a force of nature. He really won't really have that much of a choice about what happens, I'm betting.
Motoring on through! I'm so happy to have found your work! (Small burble.)

Thank you so much for publishing this. I can't tell you when I've enjoyed reading a story more! I love Mugen No Jyuunin and I feel you've captured the tenor and characters so beautifully! Absolutely perfect! Rin's thoughts in this piece are just so exactly the way I think her mind runs. Sorry to be incoherently !!! but I'm sort of blown away.
"...ever since then she had wanted to put that same look on his face some day. Just before she struck off his head… " Absolutely!
I'll be reading the rest and leaving you other notes and I'll try not to be so pointlessly burbly. But, fanfiction for this manga is so rare and this is so gorgeous. So -- that's it. Burbling over. From here on out, I'll try to be more considered and squee-free. *g*

This is brilliant. I can sense the meticulous research behind all this... Rin and Manji are notoriously difficult to peg as far as characterization is concerned. But I think you've done a fabulous job... Manji is surly and gruff, yet there are moments where he is somewhat candid and grudgingly open. Rin still retains her naivete, but is expanding her "knowledge." I admit that I'm more drawn to dialogue and plot rather than descriptive volumptuousness... that is why I find the chapter dealing with the young swordsman to be my favorite. But your eroticism is written well. Very visceral.
I would like to see Rin and Manji dealing with some of the other peripheral characters... Hyakurin, Makie, and Anotsu. But as this is about Rin's coming of age (and therefore sexuality,) I can see how this fic would be dedicated to the two of them solely.
Well done.
