I understand this but I do enjoy the BDSM-esque alternate universe too. That's why I am a fan of Taming Riki. Not that I don't enjoy the original story, of course, just sometimes I'm kind of in the mood for something kinkier, ya know? XD

Thankyou so much for writing this.
I had begun to think that everyone was talking Taming Riki as more than just a fanfic. I understand how AnK invites the imagination to be pulled in lewd (and pleasant) places but the actual story and character personalities of ai no kusabi (both novel and mang) is disregarded all too often.

Thank you! I will admit that I just broke into the fandom. I read the novels and was expecting to find fanfiction that made sense in the world. I am finding myself fast frustrated. I think I may have to look at your site to get some suggestions and fic to read.

Yeah I get what you mean even though I have enjoyed my fair share of insane ANK fanfics. I have not read all the original work but I found it weird that their was so much s/m with the pets when they were obviously bred with a submissive attitude. The only one I could understand getting punished would be Riki because he was not a bred pet. And the fact that apparently all blondies are oversexed makes no sense because even if you only see the ova then you know that the main reason that Iaison was known as as a deviant was because he part took in sex at all (regardless of who); the fact that it was with a pet and a mongrel was just the icing on the cake. The only way I see this can be explained is by them attempting it as sum sort of test upon themselves and then realizing they enjoy it there by becoming addicted because they never experienced it before and even that should be isolated within a very small group and in complete secrecy from others.

I'm new to the world of AnK fanfiction (but not AnK) so I've known about these facts as well (though the part about the purity of hair color was news to me), and from what I've read so far, I completely agree with you on how many fanfictions will ignore facts about the AnK world. There are a lot of good stories out there, but there do seem to be very few that keep in line with the canon version. At least, this will clear up a lot of misunderstandings.

I was trying to find the fan translation that you menshioned but couldn't. Could you please give me a link to it.

Well Lena, on the one hand you offend me. And then on the other, I'm grateful to you. As a rabid fan of Princess Kira Takenouchi's fics, you seemed to almost attack her interpretation and subsequent fictional writings of the Ai No Kusabi. However, having read through the reviews, I see that you and Kira have a certain understanding between the two of you.
It is important for people to understand the difference between fandom, and 'reality'. The reality of Ai No Kusabi, is, basically exactly as you described it. Kudos and props to you for taking the time to protect and clarify something you like. (Believe me, I do it all the time.) Fantastic article, and I hope it clears some things up for people who have misconceptions.
I deeply respect the original AnK, without it, TR would have never existed. And it's not that I don't like the original world of Ank...I just like Princess Kira's better. ^_^

I really like your article because it avoids misunderstandings. I absolutely agree with you that Amoi isn't a BDSM-world but - provided the translation is correct - there exists one sentence saying that Iason didn't need to whip Riki (second chapter of the novel). Unfortunately whips exist on Amoi.
I'm so glad you put out yourself for the original-idea because AnK is too beautiful to be deformed into a big-BDSM-freak-show.

My last review probably sound way too harsh. I want to clarify that I absolutely not judge BDSM in general or writing about it. I only intended to say that the mass of BDSM-AnK-fanfictions mask the original idea. Not a few of them focus on overly sex-driven Blondies repeatedly raping pets and screwing each other. Usually in the end the victim confesses his love for the rapist (I know it's possible - I'm aware of the phenomenon Stockholm-syndrom).
I didn't intend to offend any author and meant no fanfic in particular.
Answer from Lena:
Your words mirror your feelings. And mine. And don’t worry, if some authors feel offended, I probably gave them the first and strongest stimulus. ;-)
On the other hand I am wondering: doesn’t some skewed writing offend the canon? Maybe the purist fans have the same reason to feel offended. (Which is – look above – a poor reason, but I think it’s even.)

This was one of the first things that I found that had to do with the AnK world and was glad that I did. I only saw the anime about a month ago and when I went to find fanfiction a lot of it seemed to revolve around S&M and I wasn't sure if it was really accurate. Finding this cleared up a lot of things for me and I like that I have a better idea of how the original story went, before it was affected by the fandom. I hadn't left a review the first time that I read this but after seeing a second chapter and how much work this must be for you I thought that I should leave a message saying how much I appreciated it.
Thanks, Rae
