I think it's interesting that in your second chapter you've got Sawyer and Shenhua eventually providing some degree of comfort to one another during their ordeal - that's definitely one way to have it play out, another would have been for the gang to manipulate one of the two into betraying the other for her own relief, but I think I like the way you had it play out better.
Looking forward to the remaining chapters, especially Balalaika's.
