Strawberry colored hair seemed to move of it’s own free will
atop a head that moved to its own beat.
Fingers moved with lightening fast efficiency over the keys of desktop
and bluish violet eyes were narrowed in extreme concentration. Then there was a mighty groan and a loud…
“Damn you! Damn you
to hell and back to you hear you damn program?
Damn you to HELL AND BACK. May
your gigabytes freeze and fall into a celibate HELL!” he threw his head phones
at the screen and ran his fingers through his hair agitatedly. Thank everything holy Yuki was out today at
some signing. All Shuichi needed was
for him to find out he was yelling at the computer again. His system needed another memory upgrade and
a new CD burner and a million other things.
This new song was giving both him and Suguru fits. It just wouldn’t do what they wanted it to
do. His keyboard was in the shop and so
he was stuck working on his computer.
What would be perfect was if he still had his piano from back in school
here in the apartment. There was
something about it that just seemed to fit the aura of this song. Grrr… He sent one last withering glare at the
screen and went to take a shower.
~~
“I am not doing this while he goes on tour. I told you that is when I plan to write.”
Yuki Eiri told Mizuki, his editor, “You know I can’t write when that baka I
live with is there. His tours allow me
to write.”
“No, they allow you to mope until the day before his arrival
when you work very hard trying to make it look like you haven’t missed him a
bit. So why not do a signing or two and
drive up those sales numbers and get us both a pretty bonus check.” Mizuki
wheedled, trying her best no thr throttle the person across the table from her. Yuki Eiri was the best romance writer she
had – hell he was the best period. But
his attitude had made him the evil quandary of the office. So far she had lasted three years and that
made her the hero amongst not only her fellow editors but at the company
itself. He was just himself and that
was all there was to it. The only
person he would even remotely give in to was his long time lover Shuichi. And shore ore she owed him half of her
paychecks – he was a godsend. He made
Eiri step away from the computer and take breaks. Making his writing fresher when he went back to it. If you asked Eiri about him, he would call
Shuichi the ‘annoying brat who won’t leave me alone’, but if you looked at his
eyes they softened at the mention of his pop star’s name.
“I am not going through that this time. I told you
-- I don’t NEED him. Besides
it’s only for three weeks. How bad
could it get it two weeks?” Eiri said with an indifferent air about him.
“Last time he was gone for five days and you didn’t sleep
until he came home. I know because you
kept calling me at all hours to be your sounding board. Which had I not been on my HONEYMOON – would
not have been a problem.” She bit off with what she hoped was just the right
amount of bitterness.
He had fiddled with is lighter – not meeting her pointed
gaze, “I apologized and reimbursed you for that inconvenience already. Plus you should have known better than to
have taken your cell with you.” he reprimanded sharply.
“So you are going to be fine these next to two weeks and not
need anyone to hold your hand?” she asked skeptically.
“Listen to me – I am going to bang out this next book and
fulfill my contract. Then I am taking
my three weeks of vacation and going far away with my lover where there are no
phones, insane managers with illegal weaponry or psychotic fans with guns. WE are going to lay on the beach and pretend
that rest of you fell off the face of the earth and died,” he said with an air
of finality.
“So, you are dodging Sakuma-san like the plague?” she
smirked knowing.
“We are going to try desperately.” He groaned, letting his
head fall back as he reached for a cigarette, “But we have to try… I swear, if I so much as see that damn
rabbit…”
~~
Shuichi sat across the room from the computer screen glaring
at it in a style that would have made Eiri proud of him. Writer’s block was Eiri’s job not his! He had never had a song give him fits like
this before. He was this close to
scrapping it and starting over, but it was a case of honor by this point and he
wasn’t going to give the song the satisfaction of winning! Suguru was on his way over with his keyboard
and they were going to get through this if it killed them. They had a mission: this song was going
down…
~~
Fugisaki glared at the bus driver and willed him to go
faster. He wanted to get this song
done. If he and Shuichi couldn’t get it
put together then it was seriously time to think of scrapping it. So here they were about to join forces again
and hopefully beat this damn song into submission. They kept thng tng they had the melody and then the harmony would
slip or the bass line wouldn’t flow right…
His teeth clenched at the mere thought of the song tat was driving tem
both crazy.
His mind went over the ranting he and Shuichi had done over
the phone to each other and grinned slightly.
They may not see eye to eye on everything but when neither of them could
get a song to work they bonded pretty damn quick. And with Eiri gone that was one distraction out of the way – now
if only Sakuma-san would just stay way life would be splendid…
~~
“Eiri, I t-thought you would be gone all afternoon? You are back early aren’t you?” Shuichi said
as his lover entered their shared apartment.
“Idiot, I live here.
I am tired and I need to work so I came home.” Eiri replied with a
grimace and a glare as he dashed out his cigarette in the ashtray right inside
the door.
“You know that song I have been working on for two
weeks? Well, Suguru and I have BOTH
been working on it, we need it workable by tomorrow and we haven’t getting any
farther on it apart. So, he is on his
way here with his keyboard and we are not giving it up until the damn song
works…” was the reply with a dark glare at the computer – which remained
unfazed.
“Since your idiotic lyrics won’t go with some insipid melody
– I am being booted from my own apartment.
Why don’t you two go to the STUDIO?
You know that place with the sound booths and everything?” Eiri asked
frustratedly, as Shuichi actually handed him his shoes and smilingly shooed him
in the direction he had just come from.
“We have tried there, we have tried the park, his place and
everywhere but towe awe are gonna work here.
You just write wherever you else you would like to.” Shuichi darted off
and left Yuki standing annoyed in the entryway. He returned a moment later with his laptop in it’s carrying case.
“Ryuichi’s in studio 3 today so you could go visit Tatsuha-chan. There!
Go see your brother take him to dinner, a movie and a LATE LATE LATE cup
of coffee. Where you can tell him how
evil I am.”
“Why is Tatsuha in town?
I thought his childlike lover was in Kyoto for the week.” Yuki said
trying to buy some time to ease past Shuichi into the apartment.
“He needed to redo some vocals and so Tatsuha came to im
instead. It’s their anniversary
tomorrow…they have the right to be together!” huffed Shuichi as he gently
guided Yuki back towards the door and smiling sadly his kissed his cheek, “He
is staying at the Hilton downtown room 3012 – he is waiting to take you to
dinner. He wanted to take both of us –
but I had this going on… I know you
wouldn’t want your brother all alone.
Think of all the trouble he could get into.” And the door closed.
~~
Fugisaki smirked to himself when he appeared in front of
Yuki’s apartment and saw the author staring rather dumbfounded at the door. Almost like he had never seen one before.
“It’s called a door Yuki-san. I hear they are very popular.” He teased gently drawing attention
to himself.
“Arg, first him and now you. You are just like your cousin.
Tell him you all have ‘til midnight then I am coming home and taking him
to bed whether he likes it or not.” With that he stormed off much to Fugisaki’s
amusement. Suguru just shook his head
and knocked on the door.
“I told you to go away, Oh! It’s you come on in. I thought you were my hardheaded lover.”
Shuichi said with a smile as he welcomed him into his home, “Please make
yourself comfortable and we can plot against the Demon Song from Hell.”
Suguru laughed wearily as he plopped onto the couch, “If
only you were exaggerating. You wrote
the lyrics…why didn’t you write a damn melody with them again?”
“Who told you I wrote it?
I thought YOU wrote it…”Shuichi said looking confused, “You know I
always g mel melody to go wiy soy songs…to avoid what we are in right now as a
matter of fact.”
“If neither of us wrote it, Hiro doesn’t write songs. Who
the hell wrote this without so much as a damn key suggestion?” snarled Suguru,
eyes narrowed and flashing fire at some unknown person. Shuichi laughed and reached for the
keyboard.
“Let’s get you set up and we will plot their slow
agonizingly painful death at a later time.
Oh the plots we will think of later.
Now on to the Song of Hell…”
Wearily the two sighed and bro the the keyboard over to the
computer and got to work…
~~
“Can you believe it Tatsuha? The twit kicked me out of my own place!” Eiri grumbled to his
younger brother over dinner. Tan>Tatsuha
just laughed at him.
“You are whipped old man.
You went! The old Eiri would
have killed first and asked questions about it later. You just went along with it.
I am impressed. I think you are
actually growing up brother dear.” Tatsuha said with a grin.
Eiri shot him an annoyed look, “I didn’t just go along with
it. I made my stance very clear. That I d bed be back at… I gave in to him? When the hell did this happen?
Tatsuha…this could be bad.”
~~
“I think we need food.
And one of K’s guns to shoot this thing dead.” Muttered Suguru two hours
later. Shuichi groaned and nodded
reaching for his cell phone.
“Pizza or Pizza?” he asked with a tired smile.
“How about Pizza?” came the half hearted reply, “Since I
think they are the only ones still delivering.”
Just for laughs while he waited for the delivery place to
pick up Shuichi hit a few random chords on his program and then hit ‘Random
Mix’ and it was there… The chord
setting for the melody. His eyes
widened and Suguru flew around with his pad to copy them down and hit record on
the program before it was lost forever…
The chords…they had the damn chords!
As the two collapsed with relief Shuichi ordered two pizzas, breadsticks
and soda. They had earned it damn it.
“What about the harmony?”
“Shut up and relish this small win for a moment Fujisaki
before I kill you.”
“Yep.”
~~
12:00am
The door slammed open to reveal an annoyed Eiri. A highly annoyed Eiri, Suguru who was
packing up seemed happier and Eiri’s lover was bouncing again. How had all this happened while he was gone?
“YUUUUUKKKKIIIIIIII!!!!!
WE did it! We beat the Song of
Hell into submission!” crowed Shuichi as he ran over and jumped onto his lover.
Suguru grinned, “See you in the studio tomorrow afternoon
Shuichi-san.” And vanished out the door quietly.
“I like him when he gets like this and co-operates with me.”
Muttered Shuichi looking after his band mate.
“Okay, we are going to bed and you are going to make tonight
up to me.”
“Up to you? What are
you talking about? I am going to pass
out until tomorrow morning when I can hand in this damn song.” Muttered Shuichi
yawned and headed for the shower.
“Did I just miss something here?” Eiri frowned, letting his
eyes follow his lover as he entered the bathroom.
~~
Shuichi grinned to himself as he climbed into bed and
snuggled up to his pillow. Just you
wait Yuki Eiri…Just you wait till tomorrow night. You won’t know what hit you after that concert…

Author’s Note: I
love plot bunnies when they infest other people. Not so much when they infest me.
Or at least when small villages of plot bunnies infest me. So, I have all these plots and I keep typing
and they keep coming…it’s like a viscous cycle or something. I hope you like it. I also have two people I need to thank. My brilliant beta Aja – who went above and
beyond the call of duty here… And to
the person who has listened to me rant and rave and still listens to me
anyway. To my favoritest weather
anomaly. Who kicked my butt into gear
to write worthwhile fan fiction again…
