I Honestly Love You
By JazzyGirl
Disclaimer: I don’t FAK FAKE…the wonderful Sanami Matoh does. I also don’t own the song "I Honestly Love You". That belongs to Olivia Newton-John.
Warnings: Sappy, sappy Dee! Also, lots of warm and fuzzy feelings. Told from Dee’s POV. Might also be considered a little AU.
Author’s Note: This idea comes from a CD I bought just to help me write. The song I’m using is on the CD, and when I heard it, a wonderful idea came into my head. Enjoy, and please, review!

Maybe I hang around here
A little more than I should
We both know I got somewhere else to go
His gorgeous eyes. His adorable smile. His caring and kind personality.
Those are just some of the many reasons that I love Ryo MacLean.
I don’t know what it was that first drew me to him. I remember the day he came so clearlIt wIt was over 2 long years ago, and I still remember every detail. That’s a very odd thing for me to say considering I can’t even remember yesterday without hurting my brain.
My whole life changed forever since that day. Having Ryo in my life, and as my partner, changed my whole outlook on things. I started seeing everything in a different life. I began to realize what true love was, now that I had found it. I stopped sleeping around just for him. I wanted him, and only him. I was willing to remain celibate just to win his heart.
And he still doesn’t know how I truly feel about him.
Everytime I get up the nerve to tell him, something always comes up. Just the other day, we were alone at his place, and I was all ready to express my feelings to him when his bratty adopted son barged through the door, spoiling the moment. I had left shortly after, with nothing accomplished. I didn’t want to continue like this. I wanted Ryo to be mine. I needed it.
As I sit here thinking, I feel tears forming in the tiny corners of my eyes. I don’t know how much longer I can take this. I have to tell Ryo. I need to know how he feels about me. I’m tired of second guessing everything. I won’t feel complete until I know the truth. Even if he doesn’t reciprocate my feelings, I’ll have the burden lifted off of my shoulders once I get my feelings out in the open.
I have a feeling Ryo does know how I feel. But as I stated before, I’m tired of just guessing. I want to know the truth. So before I knew it, my hand went to the phone and started dialing Ryo’s number. After several rings, someone on the other end picked up.
"Hello?" Ryo’s familiar shy voice asked.
I swallowed. "Hey, Ryo, it’s me," I said simply.
"Oh, hey, Dee!" Was that joy I heard in his voice? "I was just thinking about you!" He was? I couldn’t stop the grin from sping ing across my face. "What’s up?"
"Are you busy? I thought we could get together for some coffee or something." Please say yes, please say yes…
"Oh, sure, that’d be great. I’ll meet you over at your place in, say, twenty minutes?"
"Sounds good. See you then, Ryo."
"Bye, Dee."
As I hung up the phone, I mentally red.red. He was thinking about me! I know I sounded like a teenager who’s head over heels in love with someone, but I just don’t give a damn anymore. Any little sign that shows he might care for me makes me feel so elated.
I just hope I go through with my plans tonight and finally tell him. Lord knows I’ve waited long enough…
But I got something to tell you
That I never thought I would
But I believe you really ought to know
I anxiously paced around my apartment, glancing at the clock every five seconds, anticipating Ryo’s arrival. Soon enough, I heard a knock on my door. I opened the door and there stood the object of my affections, shy smile across his face.
I held the door open, allowing him entrance to my apartment. He came in and sat down, and I followed suit, sitting beside him. I turned to face him and asked, "So, shall we go out and grab a cup, or would you rather stay here and have some homemade Dee coffee?" I grinned at my stupid joke.
Ryo laughed lightly. "Homemade coffee sounds just fine," he replied.
As I set the coffee to brew, I joined Ryo on the couch once again. I was nervous as all hell, but I couldn't tell him of my feelings just yet. I needed an icebreaker. So I started a conversation. Maybe I could drop a little subtle hint while I was at it, too. "So, did you hear about that new movie that’s coming out? The one with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman? I heard it was supposed to be really good." I knew Ryo enjoyed little romantic comedies. He was a hopeless romantic at heart, another little tidbit that had attracted me to him.
Ryo nodded. "Yeah, I heard. I can’t wait for it to come out. I’d like to go see it one weekend." Ryo cleared his throat and then kind of threw a sideways glance at me. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say he was insinuating something…
I made the next move. "So would I.ybe…ybe…um, maybe we could go together?"
I saw a light blush creep over Ryo’s cheeks. He looked too cute when he blushed! "I’d…I’d like that," he said quietly.
I love you
I honestly love you
I smiled and reached out to touch his cheek, hoping he wouldn’t pull away. To my amazement, he didn’t pull away at all. In fact, he kind of leaned into my touch. Everything was going perfectly! Dare I make the next move? Dare I ask the one question that had been lodging itself into my mind since I was sure of my feelings for Ryo? I decided to be bold.
"Ryo," I said quietly, "I need to know…how do you feel about me?"
Ryo looked shocked at my question. "W-what do you mean, Dee?" he stammered. "In general? As my partner?"
I sighed. For someone who I found incredibly irresistible, he sure could be clueless at times. Hell, it made him even cuter. "What I mean is…do you have any…um…damn, this is so hard for me! Do you have any feelings for me…romantically? Because…because I have feelings for you, Ryo…that go beyond friends…beyond partnership…I love you, Ryo…I honestly, truly love you."
You don’t have to answer
I see it in your eyes
Maybe it was better left unsaid
I almost instantly regretted what I did, for Ryo looked away, his eyes shining with embarrassment. I closed my own eyes, trying to fight back the tears. I knew I had been a fool. Sometimes it’s just better to keep some things to yourself. How could I have been so stupid?
I should have learned from my prior mistakes. I had told other people the same thing I just told Ryo, only with one difference. With Ryo, I knew I meant it. With Ryo, it wasn’t just my emotions confusing my mind. I knew what I felt for him. I was sure of it for 2 long years…and all I was hoping for in return was for Ryo to feel the same. Now I nev never to get my hopes up, for nothing ever works out.
However, all of the negative thoughts fled my mind as I felt a gentle touch on my shoulder. I opened my eyes, and Ryo’s eyes, which had reflected embarrassment just a few moments ago, smiled back at me. "Dee…I’m glad you feel that way…because I love you, too."
Was this too good to be true? Was I hearing things?
"You…you do?" I managed to choke out, trying to swallow the huge lump in my throat.
Ryo nodded. "I…I do, Dee. I’ve felt this way for a long time…over 2 years."
That did it. I couldn’t stop the tears anymore. They now feel freely, and I didn’t give a fuck if Ryo saw. I had never felt so happy in my entire life. Nothing could replace this moment. Nothing at all. This was the moment I had been waiting for.
This is pure and simple
And you should realize
That it’s coming from my heart and not my head
I finally managed to speak. "Ryo…you don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for you to say that," I whispered through my tears.
Ryo’s hand reached up and wiped the stray tears from my eyes. "Me too, Dee. I would have said it sooner, but my feelings were all muddled. I wasn’t sure what I was feeling. But it all became clear to me, little by little. Soon after I met you, I came to realize that you were the oneovedoved…the one I had been searching for my whole life. I can’t picture a day without you, Dee."
I smiled and laid my hand on top of Ryo’s. "I was so scared, Ryo…scared you would run, scared you would be afraid of me. I never want to do anything to hurt you. I always tried to tell you how I felt, but something always came up. I wanted to find the perfect time…and am I ever gl fou found it."
I love you
I honestly love you
I’m not trying to make you feel uncomfortable
I’m not trying to make you anything at all
"Dee…" Ryo whispered as I leaned towards him slowly, our faces mere inches apart.
"Ryo…love you." Our lips suddenly met, and I kissed the man I loved passionately, putting every ounce of my emotions into that kiss. Arms embraced me lovingly as I embraced Ryo as well, trying to hold onto that kiss for as long as I could, wanting it to last forever.
Several moments later, the kiss broke, leaving the two of us gasping for air. I brushed Ryo's bangs away from his face, capturing his eyes with mine. I held his gaze for the longest time, melting into him, feeling myself grow weak. It was so amazing how such a simple thing could make me feel the way I did. Ryo just did that to me. He didn’t even have to try.
"God, Ryo…you are so beautiful," I whispered.
Ryo smiled. "I feel the same about you."
But this feeling doesn’t come along everyday
And you shouldn’t blow the chance
When you’ve got the chance to say
I love you
I honestly love you
The hiss of the coffee pot brought us out of our silent reverie. Ignoring the screaming pot, we continued to sit there, staring into each other’s eyes.
I was the one to eventually break the silence. "Ryo, you don’t know how happy I am right now."
"I do know, Dee…because I’m just as happy. I never thought I’d find love…until you came along. You’ve changed my life, Dee."
"As have you. You’ve made me realize that life is worth living. I now have you to live for. I want only to make you happy. I’d walk to the ends of the Earth for you. I’d do anything, Ryo."
"The only thing that could make me happy forever, Dee, is knowing I have you. As long as we’re ther, her, nothing else in this world matters."
I kept resisting the urge to pinch myself over and over again…this moment was just too good to be true. My dreams were coming true right before my eyes. It was even better than I could have ever imagined.
If we both were born
In another place and time
The moment might be ending in a kiss
I pulled Ryo close to me once more and kissed him, this kiss being even better than the first, if that was even possible. Our tongues sparred as we both relished one another’s taste. Ryo tasted so good…I wanted to taste him forever…
"Mmm…" I mumbled as the kiss broke. "God, Ryo, you are amazing." I looked into half-lidded eyes, and knew Ryo felt the same about me. I pulled the man I loved into my arms, and the two of us just lay there, content in each other’s arms, wanting nothing else at the moment.
I don’t know when I fell asleep, but when I woke up once more, I heard a soft snoring beneath me. I looked down, and noticed Ryo had fallen asleep as well. I admired the sight before me. Ryo looked even more innocent when he was asleep. It was a moment I wanted to cherish forever.
But there you are with yours
And here I am with mine
So I guess we’ll just be leaving it at this
I love you
I honestly love you
I kissed the top of Ryo’s head and smiled, thinking of the events of the evening. Everything had worked out as I’d hoped. The man I loved told me he loved me, too. I know we’ll be together forever.
I closed my eyes once more, my arms embracing Ryo a little more tightly. I knew true happiness now, and I never wanted to let it go.
I honestly love you
