Okay! You ready for this...this is a Shun & Hyoga
love story, so it will be sappy and long. There will be lemon and what
not, but the structure of the story is a little different. It is set in
present day and flashes back to memorable moments in their life. This is
for all the Shun/Hyoga diehards out there. It will be sad, funny,
steamy...a combo of everything so let me know if you like it!

Chapter 1 – The Hospital - Present Day
The
blond man sat in the hospital waiting
room, fidgeting with a month old magazine. What was taking so damn long? The
doctors had been in with Shun for over two hours now. With a frustrated sigh,
Hyoga stood up and started pacing. Other people waiting in the small room
watched him, their hearts going out to him.
He did not know what was wrong, it had happened
so fast. One minute they were having breakfast, the next, Shun was lying face
down on the floor. After all these years, he could not lose Shun now, not like
this. Hyoga sat back down, tapping his feet with impatience. Why were they not
telling him anything? Not even a nurse had come to update him.
Hyoga’s cell phone rang which got him many
stares as he was not supposed to have it on in the hospital. “Dad, what’s going
on?” The voice on the other end asked. “It’s Shun, we’re at the hospital. He
collapsed this morning.” Hyoga sounded awful as he spit out the information in
bits. “I’ll be right there. Is he okay?” The voice responded. “I don’t know,
they are not telling me anything. Please hurry.” Hyoga closed his phone once
the other person said they were leaving immediately.
He dropped his head into his hands, leaning
over his knees, fighting back tears. Don’t leave me Shun…please be okay.
Hyoga saw white shoes approach him and looked up to see a nurse holding a
clipboard. “Are you Hyoga?” She asked. “Yes, do you have any information on
Shun?” Hyoga stood, desperate for anything she could tell him.
“I think you need to talk to his doctor about
that. I’ll take you too him.” The nurse turned and started to walk away.
Hyoga followed, “Do I get to see Shun?” He was confused by what she said. “No,
just the doctor, Shun is getting prepped for surgery right now.” Hyoga stopped,
the blood draining from his face. “Surgery?” The nurse grabbed his hand
gently, “Let’s go talk to the doctor.”
Hyoga stepped into a small office filled with
books and medical binders. A middle-aged man sat behind the desk, his glasses
propped on the tip of his nose as he read the paper in his hand. “Doctor, this
man is here about Shun in 224.” The nurse shut the door as she left, leaving
Hyoga to face the physician alone. “Oh yes, please sit down.” The doctor
smiled, something he had grown accustomed to when greeting people no matter what
the news was.
“Is he okay? The nurse said he was going into
surgery.” Hyoga sat on the edge of his chair. “Shun is experiencing heart
failure. We are going into surgery to alleviate some swelling which we hope
will allow for a full recovery.” The doctor’s smile faded as he explained the
situation with a serious tone.
“Heart failure? That’s bad isn’t it?” Hyoga
could feel the tears in his eyes. “We may be able to save him, but…there is a
65% chance he will not survive the operation.” The doctor always hated
statistics, but knew that the friends and family of patients wanted to know the
risks. Hyoga felt the tears stream down his face, he cried openly in front of
the stranger about to hold Shun’s life in his hands.
“I’ve preformed this surgery many times, all
with good results. But I am a bit concerned about Shun’s ability to
recuperate.” The doctor continued, trying not to become emotionally attached to
the distraught man in front of him. This was his job and it depended on him
remaining focused and professional. “What do you mean?” Hyoga asked. “It
seems that Shun’s body has been through quite a lot in his lifetime. I have
never seen such prolonged damage and scar tissue both internally and
externally. May I ask, what caused such trauma?” The doctor was not aware that
both Shun and Hyoga were Saints of Athena and had spent their years using their
own bodies as weapons and shields to protect the inhabitants of Earth from evil
incarnates with plans of mass destruction.
Hyoga sighed, this was what he always feared
would happen. They had all taken numerous brutal, near-death beatings when they
were younger and it had finally caught up with them. Shun had taken the most,
never wanting to hurt his opponents, he waited until he had no choice but to
fight back. Hyoga had nursed him back to health more times than he could count,
each time his recovery taking longer than the last.
He had begged Shun to be more aggressive, take
the offensive sooner. Yet, Shun’s ideals remained solid and he actually said to
Hyoga one day, ‘if I can win without killing, I have won a greater battle than
the one I am fighting. The world is made up of each person, even the ones we
fight, we must protect them too.’ Hyoga knew Shun would always be sensitive to
the needs of humanity, loving every creature big and small. He had even cared
for an injured squirrel once that bit him at least ten times, but Shun never
complained. He loved that squirrel and cried the day he released it back to its
natural home.
“I go into surgery within the hour. I will let
you know the results as soon as I am done.” The doctor continued. “How long
will it take?” Hyoga’s knuckles were in pain as he held his fists tight in his
lap. “It takes about three hours.” The doctor stood, Hyoga following suit.
“Thank you.” Hyoga whispered as he moved toward the door, grateful to finally
know what was happening. “I promise you, I will do my best to save your
friend.” The doctor said. Hyoga turned around to look at the physician. “He’s
not just my friend. He’s my husband.”

Next chapter we get our first
flashback & more characters join the story. And I
have no idea if you can legally marry the same sex in Japan, so I'm just taking
a writer's liberty on that. (I later discovered that same sex marriage is not
allowed in Japan, so they are married only in the eyes of Athena)
