A Beautiful Sight

Disclaimer: I don’t own CCS.

A/N: This is my first CCS story, so I hope you guys enjoy it. Please review and tell me what you think!

Chapter 1:

Sunset is the most beautiful time of day. The reds, oranges, and yellows combine to make a sight that is most often breathtaking. I love to sit outside each night and listen as the crickets play their haunting tribute to life and its difficulties.

Night after night I listen, captivated by their living reminder of how harsh Mother Nature can be and...how giving.

Giving in the sense that when I was eight I lost my sight only to regain it, years later, through the love of my husband, Syaoran.

I suppose it should be surprising. The great Clow Mistress...blind. I bet the creator of these cards never foresaw this difficulty of mine. Or maybe...he did. I don’t know, but either way, I’m thankful.

Yes, thankful.

I know that most people like me regret the loss of their sight, and at one time, I was one of them. But I’ve learned to get past that and embrace life, despite whatever what might try to stop me.

Of course, it took a while. When I was first told that I, Sakura, was the Mistress of the Clow Cards, I was shocked. It was so hard to believe that I was destined for great things, despite the proof that lay before my eyes.

But...if I couldn’t see the proof, how was I to know it was real?

I continued to ask myself that until I captured my first card. It was then that my confidence began to emerge. At first it was capturing one simple card, while doing my best not to fall, and then it was flying through the air on wings after one of the harder cards in my deck. My powers developed to the point where, to my delight, I could capture the cards without constantly worrying if I was in danger of falling or being killed.

It was a new freedom. One that I hadn’t been able to experience since I was young, and one that I did my best not to take for granted.

I know you’re probably asking yourself how I could do all this. How I could run around trying to catch card after card without being able to see.

It’s simple really. In the beginning of my ‘new life,’ as I called it, I discovered that having a stuffed toy as a Guardian can be extremely helpful at times.

Especially when he can tell you where everything is.

I don’t know how many times he saved my life, but I do know, that without his help I would never have been able to master the cards, let alone survive my first year as their mistress.

So, I guess, in a way, my blindness was something that made my life better. Something that gave me great friends, wonderful adventures, a powerful destiny, and, eventually, a husband who loves me more than life itself.

It’s understandable if you don’t believe me when I say that I am content with my blindness. Trust me, if I were someone else listening to me, I wouldn’t believe it either.

Which is why I’m going to tell you everything.

From the moment I met Syaoran to the present, I’m going to tell you how he changed my life. It’s a long story, but I think you’ll enjoy it. It all begins five years ago, in my first year of high school, when we had our first transfer student in over six years...

Five Years Ago...

High school. The dreaded menace of all teens. The time in which you are either made or destroyed. The time in which life is hard, school is harder, and you wish you had never gotten out of bed that morning.

Sakura loved it.

Walking slowly down the hall towards her first class, she couldn’t think of any other place she wanted to be. There was nowhere else in the world she could learn about exciting new things and talk to her friends at the same time.

“Sakura!!”

Speaking of friends...

Sakura turned in the direction of the voice, smile on her face, as she listened to the sounds of Tomoyo running up to her. It wasn’t that hard to picture where her best friend, what with the constant slapping sound that her shoes tended to make.

“Hai?” she asked, grinning as Tomoyo sprinted the last few steps and skidded to a halt beside her. It was always interesting to see Tomoyo act like her every once in a while.

Not only entertaining, but a Kodak moment as well.

“Guess what?” Tomoyo asked, hopping up and down slightly as she looked at ever cheerful friend.

Sakura tilted her head to the side, curiosity written on her face.

“We have a new transfer student!! From China!!” Tomoyo squealed, grabbing Sakura by the arms and spinning her around.

Sakura blinked. This was a surprise. There was a new student?

“Isn’t this exciting?” Tomoyo asked, slowing to a halt to catch her breath.

Sakura nodded. Not only exciting, but interesting, as well.

It wasn’t everyday that they got a new student, especially one from Hong Kong, home of the infamous Li Clan.

Interesting, indeed.

End of Chapter 1! Please tell me what you think!!
