Note: This looks like a Tet/Leon pairing right now. And thank you to DrusillaDax for the title.
Chapter 1
The restlessness and irritation had Tet-chan pacing. The detective had not been by in several days. Why it bothered him he wasn't sure. Ever since Chris had gone back to his aunt and uncle's place it felt as if the detective did not come by as often. This wasn't true, but Tet-chan couldn't help but wish for more of Leon's presence despite the fact that he was never nice to the detective.
Infuriating, loud, crude, golden maned, blue-eyed…doh! What the hell was he thinking? Not that it mattered, the detective in question, hadn't bothered to show. Again. Taking a chunk out of him, again, seemed more appealing by the second. All he could seem to think of was Leon. His scent; his voice; the gracefulness of his body. There was no avoiding the possessiveness he was beginning to develop where the detective was concerned. What was wrong with him? He hated the detective, didn't he? Always coming around the count, always smoking – that shit smelled and not in a good way.
Leon always seemed to insult him too; who did he think made the goodies served with the tea? Well, aside from the ones Leon brought with him anyway. That was another grievance yet to addressed as well. What did that human think he was doing? Courting the Kami? Not like he even had a chance. Well, ok most likely not. But even he saw beneath the gruff and crude posturing. The pretense of dropping in on a case. The man's soul was as honorable as any ancient warrior of worth. A heart of gold. It showed in his care and concern of his brother; peeking through his façade. Though he'd never admit to it.
A walking contradiction. Tough but sensitive, crass but gentle, loud but contemplative. Even he, Tet-chan, could see this. Was this how his obsession with Leon started? He started, blinking at his own usage of Leon's name in his own thoughts. Not detective or human or that man, but Leon. This just seemed to get worse by the moment. He dared not talk to the count for all that the count did care for him. It was just too humiliating and he wasn't sure how the count would react.
The count never said anything but one could tell he really did like Leon. Back and forth across his room, his thoughts turned and circled like a kitten chasing its own tail. There was no escaping the fact that he wanted – no craved and yearned to posses Leon. A craving for flesh in a different sort of way. What did that mean? Tet-chan sighed and went to go prepare more food. Who knew, perhaps Leon would show today.
Leon stared at the ceiling, now blank as were the walls. He was not sure what was going on with himself. First he just couldn't face going back to Chinatown or rather he just couldn't face D or the shop inhabitants. He had to be going mad because what he saw, well, never mind that. He'd always known that place was different. Work aside, he'd also turned a hot chick down, not in the mood for a hot sexual date, wanting to go home instead.
What was wrong with him? He seriously needed some action and he had turned it down like some kind of prim or prudish person. Then the mess and décor of his apartment irritated him instead of making him feel at home, so he cleared the place out. Now he lay there on his bed, staring at nothing and letting his thoughts just drift. Was he being slowly influenced by D? No that wasn't it. He was restless and filled with un-nameable, half-formed desires. He didn't know why.
He wished he could go back to work so he didn't have to think, but after being shot and still recovering, the Chief was adamant that Leon was to use the down time to recuperate. Said man snorted in disgust at remembering that. The paperwork was going to be a bitch when he got back. He sighed. Perhaps he'd go visit the count tomorrow. It was then he remembered or rather had Jill's voice in his head reminding him, that he'd have to make a stop and get something to bring.
It wasn't something he was ready to face for some reason, an uneasy feeling really, but it sure as hell beat moping uselessly. Maybe in the process he'd get some answers to, well he wasn't sure at this point, but what ever it was perhaps eventually he'd be able to stop searching. Getting up, he did a very un-Leon like thing and went to his closet to find some clothing other than his usual denim and t-shirts, coming up with some black silk dress casual slacks and a collarless royal blue button down dress shirt. He paused in the process of putting his ensemble together, who the hell did he think he was going to impress? He didn't know but it felt right. Besides, what rule out there said he couldn't dress differently every now and then if he really wanted to? He just wished he knew why he even felt compelled to do it in the first place.
Then again, did he really want to examine that closely? Not really. He went through his mental list of places to get fine chocolates or pastries and decided, without realizing that tomorrow was a full moon, that in addition to Lady Godiva's Belgium and white chocolates, he would also go by a Chinese bakery and purchase a variety of moon cakes as well. Count D stared at his library of books. Something was not right. The toutetsu had been unusually more moody than usual and reticent about it. Leon, also, had not shown in three days either. Before that, the detective too had been edgy.
The behaviors looked familiar in a way but he couldn't quite remember why. Well, Tet-chan wasn't saying anything, nor was Mr. Detective. One he wasn't quite able to do much about yet, but the other, well he was the keeper of this shop, was he not? He had reference books as well; it was a start at least. If not, he would have to go to Tet-chan himself and broach the issue first. As a resident of the shop, his well-being was very important.
Later on he would tackle the dilemma of Leon. He was a Kami after all and had responsibilities not just to the petshop, though that was his primary concern, but to the people of his area that he administered to in his own way. He helped to try and maintain a blanace and promote well being and happiness. Love and dreams were a part of that. The detective was, underneath it all, a worthy being. D truly cared for Leon. That rare human filled with honor and goodness. Like the chameleon, he hid well by blending in or rather in this case, hiding behind the loud, crude exterior. One needed to dig deep enough to find the true gold inside.
