Chapter One: A Way Out

A dark figured brooded and let out a deep sigh. He had strayed from the make-shift village the others had made again, but he preferred his solitude. Letting two eyes rest on the night sky, a third one swivled around to an oncoming intruder. Dusting off his leather jacket and pants, he stood up, hands on guns, knees bent. He silently took a big breath, ready to make a battle cry as was the rule amongst the others --- if you see trouble, don\'t be a hero. He knew he could probably handle this himself, being fully digivolved, but no chances should ever be taken. Another rustle, and he knew the intruder was very near.

The unknown digimon jumped into the air, small in shape, but fast in movement. It came down and aimed for him. He outstreched his guns when it landed on his arms and began to laugh. No, it began to taunt and tease and laugh at him.

\"Jeeze, you\'re worse than Henry sometimes. Momenti, Beelzemon. I just thought I\'d tell you dinner\'s ready.\" said a little rabbit like digimon.

\"If ya ever come up on me like that again, I just might knock yer block off. What\'s the big idea, sneaking up on me like that any way? Ya coulda been data. Ya know the call, why didn\'t ya just call me out, huh?\" Beelzemon was frustrated at Terriermon for almost making him shoot at the lil\' bunny. He\'d have enough sleepless nights thinking about Jeri and...., well, she said she forgave him, but he knew deep down all she wanted was for him to dissapear. Not neccessarily die, but to just vanish off the face of both the real world and the digital one.

\"I said momenti!!! I\'m sorry, Mr. I\'m Afraid To Socialize, but everyone agrees---you need to eat something. It\'s been what, two, three weeks now? We miss the gang too, but if you die, do you think that will ease you tamers suffering?\"

It struck a nerve that not even Terriermon thought was possible. Ai and Maiko, his tamers. What were they doing without him? Did they just buy another pet? Or were they patiently waiting for their digimon partner to come back to them the way he did before? He didn\'t know. He just didn\'t know. He slumped to the ground, all eyes shut, trying to block away tears that were beginning to form.

\"Uhh, man. I\'m sorry. Look, I shouldn\'t have said something so tactless. Henry was always reminding me \'bout that stuff. Heh heh, looks like I need my tamer still, too.\"

\"We all do, we just need to find a way to get to them,\" he said, wiping at his face.\"If we can, then maybe things can be the way they were.\" Yeah, but that will never happen, will it?

The two digimon walked up a path towards the little village they made. A small campfire was going, and on it some fish Guilamon and Renamon had caught. Well actually, Renamon had caught the fish, Guilamon had fell into the water and made quite a ruckuss. Beelzemon picked one up and started to nibble on the edge. He really wasn’t hungry, but if it made the others happy, he’d do it.

He looked up at the night sky again. He’d flown up there many times, and found many portals to the real world. But if he entered, he knew he’d be deleted, slowly, painfully. Of course that was one of the reasons he had trained to digivolve. If he could find a way out, maybe he could see Ai and Maiko one last time. But it might do more damage to them if he suddenly evaporated into data after just arriving. Or worse, what if they weren’t home, or he couldn’t find them. He’d just die, and they would never know, until maybe one day deciding to look at the D-Arc.

He didn’t know how, but somehow, he was going to find a way out
