CHAPTER ONE: Trouble In
Shin MakokuIt was a
very strange dream that Shibuya Yuuri was having that night. Then again,
the word 'strange' should no longer even be a part of his vocabulary. Since
his ascendancy as the Maou of the demon kingdom of Shin Makoku, he had
encountered many bizarre things and embarked on fantastic adventures that
soon became 'normal' for him as time passed and as his visits to that alternate
dimension became more frequent. But no other
word could best describe the dark images that flitted through Yuuri's slumbering
psyche.He was in
a pitch-black hallway surrounded by stuffed toys of all shapes and sizes.
Yuuri wondered why these plushies seemed so familiar to him. All of the
toys were crying, shining pearl tear eyes trickling from their button eyes."Help him!"
the plushies begged the startled boy. "Please help him!""What? Who?"
Yuuri asked, gaping in growing terror as the toys slowly walked towards
him. "Help who?"Stubby paws
tugged urgently on his arms and legs. "Help him! Help him!" they pleaded
over and over again.Then, a
door slowly opened, flooding the hallway with bright light that blinded
Yuuri. As his vision slowly cleared, he was horrified to see a hideous
ogre, with skin as red as a crackling pig's and with glowing eyes and sharp
fangs. It bent down, reaching a clawed hand between the legs of a terrified
little doll that looked like a raccoon, but which Yuuri knew was supposed
to be a cat. The poor toy helplessly closed its eyes and cried, as a sharp
claw poked him."Hey!" Yuuri
was outraged at that obscene deed the ogre was inflicting upon the hapless,
innocent doll. "Stop that!"The ogre,
however, simply ignored him and rumbled in the toy's ear. "I'll be leaving
you for now. While I'm gone, grow and become the lovely flower that I know
you'll become. I shall return for you, my precious, at the time of your
blossoming. Don't even think of running away. I will find you, no matter
where you are, for a bond that could never be broken joins you and I. When
the next we meet, you will become mine.Pity for
the poor plushie prompted Yuuri to rush forward, reaching out his right
hand. "I won't let you have him, you monster!"The cat
doll held out its paw and sobbed in a rich baritone voice that Yuuri knew
he should remember. "Heika, help me! Please don't let him take me!"Before Yuuri
could grab the toy, a strong force pulled him back, sending him hurtling
through the air and back through the hallway."Help me,
Yuuri!" the toy cried out, growing smaller and smaller as Yuuri was dragged
further and further away from it.The young
Maou tried to wrench himself free from whatever it was that was pulling
him away from the doll. "NOOOOO!"
"Yuu-chan?
Yuu-chan? Are you all right?"Yuuri blinked
at the blurry image of two wide brown eyes staring down at him. As his
vision cleared enough to behold his mother's face, surprise set in. With
a loud "WAAAH!", he fell off the other side of the bed and landed with
a thud at his elder brother's feet."Did you have
a bad dream?" Shouri asked his baby brother in mock concern, mimicking
an evil version of the spiky-haired, Evil Eye possessing hero of the anime
that they had been watching on TV last night. Although his glasses were
different in shape, the evil smirk on his face made Shouri look a bit like
Mido Ban."Call it a
very bad wake-up call," groaned Yuuri. "And please don't do that! That's
an awful impersonation of Mido Ban!""Hmmph!" Shouri
snorted as he pushed his glasses up his nose. "I told you you shouldn't
have pigged out on those octopus wieners if you were planning to sleep
early. But did you listen to me?" He pressed his thumb and index finger
together. "If Mom hadn't woken you up, you were that close to the grave,
Brother Dear."Jennifer Shibuya
gave her eldest son a reproachful glare. "That is not funny, Sho-chan.
Where did you read about that anyway?""Bob told me.
He had seen it happen to a colleague of his from the Philippines."Grimacing,
Yuuri picked himself up, rubbing his aching butt. "I did not pig out. You
were trying to steal my wieners form my plate. I had to protect them from
your sneaky mitts and mouth."Shouri folded
his arms over his chest as he leaned against the wall. "I call that conduct
unbecoming of a Maou. You should share what you have. I'm surprised that
you haven't plundered Shin Makoku of whatever culinary delights they have.
Don't they have octopus wieners over there?""And do you
think that stealing and plundering is something that a Maou should do,
Sho-chan?" Yuuri said his brother's pet name with all the derision that
he could muster."There! That's
another thing!" Shouri wagged an accusing finger at his younger brother.
"A Maou should learn respect! It's Oniichan to you, you twerp!"The big, fat
juicy raspberry that Yuuri granted his brother appalled Jennifer. "Why
should I give you respect…Sho-chan?""In case you've
forgotten," Shouri quickly countered. "I'm a Maou just like you!"Jennifer's
pincer-like fingers clamped hard on their ears, silencing the brothers'
exchange. "Why o why did I have two immature children for Maous?" she bewailed,
dragging them off, struggling and complaining, to the breakfast table.~~~~~~~~~~
Murata Ken,
Yuuri's best friend and modern day incarnation of Shin Makoku's Daikenja,
could not stop himself from snickering. Already, his toothy grin was stretched
from ear to ear."Yuuri," he
began with a barely suppressed chuckle. "I see you got yourself into trouble
with your mother again. Your ear is swollen and it's as red as a tomato.""Please don't
say anything more!" Yuuri begged the grinning boy, who was carrying an
armful of baseball bats beside him. "I've had to put up with a lot of teasing
the whole day. I nearly decked that fool Toshizumi when he asked me if
I got my ear stuck between the train doors on my way to Harajuku." He ruffled
his hair in frustration. "AAARGH! I'm in Third Year High School, and those
train jokes haven't let up! Do I have to endure this until college?""You should've
gotten used to it by now. Besides, don't you usually sign all official
Shin Makoku documents with 'Shibuya Yuuri, Harajuku Fuuri'?""But, there,
they treat me with respect." Yuuri's face suddenly darkened as he remembered
something. "Maybe except for Konrad. His puns are always the worst."Murata could
not help but laugh. "True, but then again, he is a soldier. You
could call it a miracle that he had developed a sense of humor, questionable
though it may be." He gave his friend a meaningful look. "I guess he has
you to thank for that. You were a positive influence in his life. Perhaps,
if you hadn't been there, Konrad would probably have just as many wrinkles
as Gwendal."At the mention
of Konrad Weller's handsome, but dour-faced oldest brother, Yuuri lapsed
into disturbing silence that Murata readily noticed."Is something
wrong, Yuuri?" the young Daikenja inquired. "You're so quiet all of a sudden.""I had a very
strange dram last night." On the way to the school's baseball field, Yuuri
narrated to his friend the things that happened in his nightmare. "When
you mentioned Gwendal's name," the Maou concluded, "everything just seemed
to click into place. All those toys were made by Gwendal."Murata placed
the bats in its metal basket. "You think Gwendal's in trouble?""I don't know
what to think. In all the time that I've known him, Gwendal is…how do I
put it…self-reliant. He is always on top of every situation. He's the last
person on earth whom you'd think would get into trouble.""Except, of
course, when he gets caught by Anissina," Murata quickly pointed out to
him."But that's
different. I'm talking about real life-threatening situations. Remember
when he went to Dai Shimaron to speak to King Belal regarding his 'children
exchange' program? None of us knew that he was actually planning to assassinate
Belal.""That's very
true. Gwendal is always thinking ahead. He's the…" Murata made a wide sweeping
gesture with his hands. "…'Earth that can't be moved.' I'm not surprised
that he's such an expert earth maryoku wielder.""Yeah, but
still…I can't shake away the feeling that something's terribly wrong."
Yuuri let out a low groan. "Why did I have to get grounded for three whole
months?"Chuckling,
Murata said, "It can't be helped. You're close to flunking Algebra and
Geometry. Your English grades are not that good either."Yuuri scrounged
through his backpack for his mitt. "Do you always have to remind me of
that?""Well, we can't
have a Maou who is flunking his high school subjects? What would Günter
say?""Hey, I'm not
a genius like you and…"As he pulled
out his catcher's mitt, something small and orange fell out of his bag.
Yuuri's eyes flew wide at the sight of the tiny cat doll key chain that
Gwendal had made for him. It was the same doll from his dream."Help me,
Heika!" the toy called out to him, its paws stretched out to him.Yuuri's hand
closed around the toy before it could drop to the ground. However, the
sudden motion caused him to lose his balance. As he keeled over, to Murata's
shock, water magically bubbled up from the ground underneath his feet.
Before either boy realized what was happening, they were sucked into the
vortex of the puddle, the swirling waters taking them back to the realm
of the Mazoku.~~~~~~~~~~
Yuuri sat up,
sputtering and coughing out water, from the bathtub he had emerged from.
Sighing, he mumbled, "I'm very sure that there will come a time when I'll
drown in transit between the two worlds." Gazing up at the ceiling, he
complained to the long deceased ruler who was responsible for his dubious
mode of travel between Earth and Shin Makoku, "Shinou-heika, can't you
figure out a drier way of transporting me from Earth to Shin Makoku and
vice versa? And where's Murata anyway? What's taking him so long?"A harsh cry
caught Yuuri's hearing, drawing his attention towards the open crack of
the bathroom door. Carefully climbing out of the tub, he crawled towards
the door and peeked through the narrow opening. The first thing
he saw was a large four-poster bed. He had seen that bed before, and he
knew he was somewhere inside Blood Pledge Castle. But then, a gentle breeze
caused the lone candle on the escritoire to flicker, casting a thin beam
of light upon the bed, allowing Yuuri to at last see the hulking figure
sitting on the bed.At first, Yuuri
thought it was the ogre from his dream that he had to clamp his hand over
his mouth to stifle his surprised cry. At closer inspection, however, he
realized that it wasn't an ogre at all, but a man, a human to be exact.
His short-cropped red hair was like a tight helmet on top of his head.
He was a big man, larger than Adelbert von Graz, with a body packed with
hard muscles.What's a
professional wrestler doing in Blood Pledge Castle? Yuuri pondered.
I wonder who…It was then
that Yuuri noticed the swift jerking motions of the human's hips. Shaking
his head in disgust, he mused, Gross! Don't tell me he's jerking off
and…!The human spoke
between pants for air, "Who dared to breach you in my absence? Tell me!
Who dared to pluck my precious flower before me?"The reply he
received were soft whimpers and sobs of pain. Yuuri was shocked. He thought
the man had been pleasuring himself. Because of the thick drapes hanging
at the corners of the bed, he did not notice the presence of another person
in the chamber. Piqued curiosity prompted the young boy to scoot across
the floor on hands and knees and sneak under a small round dining table
covered by a long tablecloth. As he carefully lifted the hem, his eyes
grew as round as saucers. It was a scene that he never expected to see.Sitting on
the man's lap, facing forward, was Gwendal von Walde. Although still clad
in his white dressing gown, the thin garment did not stop the stranger
from having his way with the Mazoku's body. The man's left hand groped
Gwendal's chest, stubby fingers pausing to tweak and squeeze painfully
taut nipples. His right hand pumped Gwendal's unresponsive member relentlessly
that Yuuri feared that it might get torn off. Tears glimmered at the corners
of the Mazoku's eyes as he was bounced up and down on the human's lap,
his long dark brown hair, now untied and flowing free, swaying like a curtain
with every thrust.Pain prompted
Gwendal to cry out, "Please stop! It hurts! Oh please!"The human's
angry answer, however, was "Whoever it was who filled you with his seed,
I'll wash it away with my own fluids. I never figured you to be a slut,
Gwendal. If I had known this would happen, I should've taken you away long
before despite your mother the Maou's wishes. I should've made you mine
when you were just a boy."Yuuri could
no longer endure the filthy things that were being done to his poor friend."LET HIM GO!"
Yuuri roared as he emerged from his hiding place. Snatching the chamber
pot, he slammed it right on top of the man's head.As the stranger
struggled to remove the pot stuck tight to his head, Yuuri grabbed a startled
Gwendal's hand. "Let's go, Gwendal!" But as he pulled the older man, the
forceful separation tore a scream from the Mazoku's throat. Yuuri blanched,
seeing the blood and semen trickling down his bare legs. "I'm sorry! I
didn't mean to…"To his greater
shock, Gwendal pushed him away. "It's you who must leave! You don't know
what you've just done!"A wet Murata
chose that moment to step out of the bathroom. "What's going on?"Yuuri was not
about to hear any more arguments from Gwendal. "Murata!" he called out
to his confused friend. "Help me get Gwendal out of here fast!"Before the
Mazoku could argue with his youthful king, Yuuri and Murata had grabbed
his arms and dashed out of the room with him in tow. As they fled through
the torch-lit hallway, they heard the furious roar of the man they had
left behind."Where are
we going anyway?" Murata asked, hearing the sounds of bare feet giving
chase."We must hide
Gwendal!" was Yuuri's quick answer. "Let's take him to Günter's room!
It's closest!"The two boys
turned at the left corridor, instantly sighting the door of Shin Makoku's
flamboyant adviser. They just barged inside the room without even bothering
to knock. Their abrupt entrance surprised Günter von Kleist, who was
drinking in a corner."Heika! What
are…" Günter never completed his startled question as Yuuri shoved
Gwendal into his arms."Hide him!"
the Maou shouted, but it was too late. The human stood at the doorway,
breathing heavily from his run, his face transformed into a mask of rage.Yuuri seized
the first weapon he saw – Günter's sword, which was propped against
the table leg. Murata, on the other hand, grabbed the mace from the suit
of armor's hands. Determined as they were to protect their friend, they
did not notice the fierce glare that Günter hurled at Gwendal before
him. If Yuuri and Murata had glanced back, they would have seen Gwendal
uncharacteristically shrink back from his friend, guilt reflected on his
handsome face."You brats!"
the human roared at the two boys, brandishing a large saber. "I've come
to take back what rightfully belongs to me! Get out of my way if you don't
want to feel my wrath!""Gwendal is
no property of yours!" Yuuri yelled back. "Shin Makoku is a free country!
Besides, why should I give him to a perverted bastard like you anyway?""Don't interfere
in things you don't know, boy!""You're right!
I don't know what's going on! But I can see for myself that Gwendal does
not like the things you're doing to him! For that reason alone, I have
every right to interfere!""If that's
the case, then die!"Raising his
left hand, the human fired a crackling red beam at the startled boy."YUURI!"
Yuuri trained
his gaze in the direction of that shout just in time to catch Morgif in
mid-flight. Swiftly, he raised the Demon Sword before him vertically, the
sharp blade easily deflecting the blast. Morgif even let out a pleased
"Oomph!", a broad grin curling up the corners of his mouth.Konrad and
Wolfram von Bielefeld, Yuuri's self-proclaimed fiancé, quickly placed
themselves between the boy king and the angry human."You bastard!"
Wolfram shouted furiously, pointing his sword at the man. "You dare to
harm the Maou! That's unforgivable!"At that declaration,
the human burst into laughter. "Are you telling me that this boy is the
Maou? Do you take me for a fool? I know for a fact that the Lady Cecilie
von Spitzberg is the Maou.""Not anymore,"
Konrad answered grimly. "This boy is indeed the Maou of Shin Makoku, Shibuya
Yuuri, personally chosen by Shinou-heika to be the successor to the throne."The former
Maou herself chose to make an appearance at that moment. There was sorrow
and shame in Cheri's emerald green eyes as she gazed at her eldest son.
"Konrad does not lie. I am no longer the ruler of this land. It is Yuuri-heika
who is the Maou."After a tense-filled
minute, the human grudgingly sheathed his sword. Despite know that he was
in the presence of the young king, he did not give Yuuri the respect that
he deserved. It was just fine for Yuuri, who lowered Morgif. He too felt
that he could not give this stranger any respect."Forgive my
insolence, Heika," the human said, not the least bit apologetic. "But I'm
afraid that there is a serious misunderstanding here.""You call raping
one of my royal advisers a 'misunderstanding'?" Yuuri was seething. "I
do not believe in capital punishment, but I am greatly tempted to have
you executed."The man was
not daunted by that threat. "What Sir von Walde and I were doing is natural
for two people who have been bonded together."" 'Bonded'?
What do you mean?" Wrinkles had begun to form between Yuuri's eyes. "And
who the hell are you anyway?"The human's
reply drew a shocked gasp from Yuuri's lips. "I am Hector de Casanova,
King of the faraway realm of Capistrano, and Gwendal von Walde is my betrothed."
