Reconsideration

Disclaimer: I don't own Sailormoon
or any related characters
Notes: Heya, I wrote this story
back when I was an itty bitty 14 year old – it was titled
“Yaten Tenoh,” even though I knew it was a stupid
title. I was, and still am, perfectly aware that Yaten’s given name is Kou,
after all. Bah, I take no responsibilities for my younger self’s insanity.
Anyway, I am older now and a much better writer (merlin,
I would hope so) so I dug this story out of the attic and drastically reworked
it! I’ve added quite a bit to almost all of the scenes
and tried to make the serious points of the plot a bit more…logical. My inane
childish humour, however, remains. I’ve just supplemented
it with my more mature (ha!) inane humour. So here it
is: Yaten Tenou: Sexier! Longer!
Shinier!
Jam-packed with stupid references to my other interests – look for:
Invader Zim, Harry Potter, Discworld, LotR, Garfield, random anime and (probably) much, much
more!
Chapter 1:
Haruka was in the garage at the Outer's
mansion cleaning her car. She lovingly ran a soft cloth over the headlights and
smiled gently.
"Beautiful...” she murmured. “All clean..."
She noticed a smudge on the passenger side door and began to
polish carefully while she thought over the events of the past few months. The
Lights had gone, much to her delight and there had been a few blissfully quiet
months. No evil beings attempting to take over the earth…okay, other than a
rather incompetent little alien, but a boy with a big head and glasses seemed
to have that situation under control. Oh, there was also that little thing in Britain
with the dark-wizard-who-no-one-would-tell-the-Senshi-the-name-of, but the
wizarding community had made it clear that a boy-who-was-alive would be taking
care of the situation soon. At least there were no major fights among the
senshi…except for that argument between Makoto and Rei over that guy at the cinema…but they had both apologised after a while
and Makoto was only in hospital for a week, anyway. Alright,
so maybe it wasn’t peaceful, but it certainly was nice having those arrogant
alien sluts off the planet.
But then something had gone
dreadfully wrong in Haruka’s happy Starlight-free world. They came back. No one
knew why, either, though Setsuna had speculated that Kakyuu had done something
bitchy. Michiru seemed willing to accept this theory because, for some reason,
she didn’t like Kakyuu much. Haruka didn’t
really care why they were back. She just wanted them gone again. They were
meddlers and she didn’t like Taiki’s hair.
She had skillfully avoided them thus far and, as of yet, hadn't even spoken to any of them. Unfortunately, Starlight
Avoiding was a stressful and socially debilitating pursuit. Haruka had to work
very hard to arrange times to meet her friends sans Lights and she often found
herself diving into random buildings as one of the unpleasant aliens appeared
out of nowhere. Haruka smiled at the car. It was perfect...
"Hey." A voice said from behind her. Haruka spun
around and her dark green eyes locked with lighter ones.
"You." She spat, seeing the shortest Light. All
her efforts, wasted. The beast had sought her out. Deciding it would look
undignified to race into the mansion, she opted for pretending to continue
cleaning her car.
"Yeah, er..." Yaten looked down as Haruka
pointedly turned her back. There was silence for a moment before Yaten took a
frustrated breath. "Look, I'm just
here to say that...er...I'm...well, you see, I'msorryforallthetroubleIcausedyou.
IhopeyoucanforgivemeandIwannabefriends..."
"What?" Haruka felt as though the wind had been sucked out of her. She turned around slowly and
stood to face the silver haired girl.
"I said...I'm - sorry - for - all - the - trouble - I -
caused - you. I - hope - you - can - forgive - me - and - I - wanna - be -
friends." Yaten said, fighting to keep the sarcasm out of her tone. She
narrowed her eyes at the blonde in front of her.
"Don’t make me say it again; it was far too corny for my tastes."
Haruka eyed Yaten for a moment, weighing the sincerity of
the comment and finally burst out laughing at the look on the other girl’s
face. Yaten bristled and Haruka grinned at her. All would not
be forgiven immediately, but the blonde admired the guts it must have taken for
Yaten to come here.
"Well...I suppose I can give you a chance..."

The next few weeks flew by in a blur for Haruka as she was pulled reluctantly into the shorter girl’s world. When
Haruka had agreed to give Yaten a chance, she had assumed she would merely be
seeing the silver haired girl occasionally and in the presence of the other
earth senshi: hanging out at Rei’s, studying with Ami,
seeing a movie with Minako and Usagi. Instead, she was almost exclusively with
Yaten, Seiya and Taiki, turning “give Yaten a chance” into “give the Three
Lights a chance.” She found herself attending photo shoots, interviews, fan
club meetings, concerts and parties with the Three Lights in addition to being
included in Yaten’s personal activities. When she was avoiding them, it seemed
to Haruka that the Lights were constantly hanging around one senshi or another;
now, it seemed like they barely saw each other.
When the Lights went on a mini-tour in Kyoto,
Haruka went with, when they performed, Haruka was backstage, when they were
interviewed, Haruka was behind the camera, when they were at signing events, Haruka was hanging around pretending to be security.
Eventually she decided to start drawing Yaten into her own life.

"Did you see the look on her face?" Haruka laughed
as she and Yaten walked into the Outer's mansion. “I
thought she was going to faint!”
Yaten giggled as she kicked off her shoes, sliding into the
lime green slippers Hotaru had bought for her.
“Oh my god!” Haruka imitated the girl they had met in a
high, girly voice. “It’s Yaten Kou! And he’s with Tenou Haruka! I knew he was gay!”
Michiru looked up from her copy of The Last Continent by
Terry Pratchett as the two strode into the room she
was sitting in, still giggling.
"Welcome home!" she smiled pleasantly.
"Hello!" Yaten replied as Haruka placed her hands
on the aqua-haired violinist’s shoulders, kissing her quickly on the head. The blonde returned to Yaten’s side, linking arms with the
shorter woman and tugging her toward the couch opposite Michiru.
"Well!” Michiru exclaimed with a mischievous smirk as
the two sat down. “Aren't we cosy! Should Setsuna and
I clear our calendars for a wedding?"
"Michiru!" Haruka rolled her eyes. “Don’t be
gross! Kouchan’s practically a man!”
“Hey!” Yaten laughed. “You better be talking about Seiya!
I’m as feminine as they come!”
“Right. Aside from the fact that the entire country thinks
you’re male.” Haruka raised a teasing eyebrow. Yaten grinned.
“Totally Seiya’s idea!” she countered. “She’s always been so
masculine. I, personally, enjoy being female.”
She cupped her breasts for emphasis, looking up at Haruka
flirtatiously. Michiru’s eyes narrowed as she watched the blonde stammer out a
response.
"Would you two like cookies?” she said loudly,
startling Haruka and drawing a glare from Yaten. She ignored the hostile look.
“Hotaru made them!"
“Er, alright.” Haruka said. Yaten sighed slightly and
inclined her head in acceptance. Michiru gave a very forced smile and went into
the kitchen. Setsuna was seated at the table and
noticed the annoyed look on the aqua haired woman’s face.
"Together again?" she asked, trying to sound sympathetic.
Michiru nodded as she walked over to the counter.
"I don't know what's going on!" she sighed,
pulling a cookie jar away from the wall. "One day they were mortal enemies
then the next they were best friends! They've been
glued at the hip for weeks now! Haruka hasn't been
spending nearly as much time with me! She’s constantly running around with
that…that whore and her little co-sluts!"
Setsuna raised an eyebrow at Michiru’s outburst, but the
shorter woman wasn’t finished.
“She forgot our anniversary!” she screeched, gaining
emotional momentum. “She spent the anniversary of our first date playing video
games with Yaten and Seiya Kou! SEIYA KOU, SETSUNA!”
"She blew off your anniversary to play video games with
Yaten and Seiya." Setsuna repeated doubtfully, watching Michiru carefully.
"Yes!” Michiru moaned, anger giving way to despair. She
clutched the cookie jar and leaned on the table, continuing in a strained
voice. “And she spends more nights at Yatentachi’s
flat than she does here with me! We never have sex anymore and, when
Yaten’s around, she’ll barely even hug me!”
Setsuna opened her mouth to respond but closed it again.
Nothing she could say would be what Michiru needed to hear. Instead, she stood
and wrapped the other woman in her arms.
"I just don't know what to think." Michiru
murmured into Setsuna’s shoulder. She pulled away after a moment and put a few
cookies on a plate. A smile painted itself onto her face as she entered the
living room.
"...finally gotten over her!" Yaten was saying,
gesturing actively. Haruka was listening with a slightly dreamy expression.
When it became obvious that Yaten was finished and was expecting a response,
she reached out and brushed a lock of silver hair from Yaten’s eyes.
"It’s almost too bad. I mean, ever since Mamoru decided
to stay in America
I've been realizing how terrible he was for koneko-chan
in the first place." Haruka said with gentle smile. “Seiya could be good
for her.”
"I used to be so annoyed with Seiya for chasing her,
thanks Michiru," Yaten took a cookie from the plate Michiru held out, “but
of course, when I give my blessing, she decides that Usagi isn’t really her
type.”
"Isn’t that how it always is, though? Thanks Michi.” Haruka didn’t look away from the shorter woman as she took the
cookie. "As I said, it’s too bad. Maybe we should try and fix Usagi up
with…er, Rei?"
"That's not a bad idea!" Yaten laughed. "And
Seiya with Taiki, yeah? Pair the opposites!"
Haruka gave Yaten an indecipherable look and Michiru’s
breath caught in her throat, though the other two didn't notice.
“Opposites like you and me?” the blonde
asked in a hesitant tone. Yaten looked at her, obviously surprised.
“We’re not that different, ‘Ruka.”
she said with an inquisitive smile. Michiru squeezed her eyes shut against the
tears that were beginning to form at the affection in the two women’s voices
and she quickly left the room. Setsuna looked up, alarmed, as Michiru raced through
the kitchen toward the stairs.
“Michi…?” the garnet-eyed woman
started to stand, but Michiru ignored her. She reached the top of the stairs
and went to her door, choking back a sob at the sign Hotaru had hung there. It
was a green paper cut into the shape of a heart, which read, “Haruka-papa and Michiru-mama
forever.”
She gently removed the sign from the door and went in, still
fighting the tears that were gathering in her eyes. She collapsed onto the bed
she and Haruka had shared for so many years, curling up into a ball around the
paper.
“Ruka…” she whimpered as something
inside her heart broke and she sobbed desperately into the pillows.

It was evening. Haruka had insisted upon walking Yaten home,
despite the protests that she would be fine, and now they were just inside the
Lights’ flat.
"Bye." Haruka said sadly, gazing at Yaten. The
shorter woman blushed slightly.
"Bye Haruka!" Seiya called from the couch in the
next room. Haruka grinned at her and waved.
"Goodbye Miss Tenou."
Taiki said with a polite nod as she wandered past, heading toward the kitchen.
"Goodbye." Haruka replied before returning her
gaze to Yaten. For a moment, they merely looked at each other.
"Bye..." Yaten said slowly. Taiki sighed from the
kitchen. She couldn’t see the other two women, but she
knew the routine they were playing out. She and Seiya locked eyes. Seiya was
smirking and Taiki rolled her eyes. Nearly every night was the same. Haruka
would end up at the flat, using one excuse or another, she and Yaten would say
their goodbyes as slowly as possible. They would stare at each other sadly
before exchanging a lingering hug. Haruka would turn to go, then
someone would offer a reason for the blonde to stay the night. Taiki had
noticed that the hugs had been getting longer, the gazes had been getting
shyer, and the excuses to stay had been getting flimsier.
Seiya, who could see the pair, nodded her head in Taiki’s
direction, glancing toward the door. The hug was taking place. Taiki raised an
eyebrow at Seiya who laughed slightly and shook her head. Taiki sighed. It
would fall to her to make the excuse tonight.
She waited a moment until she heard the door click open.
"Yaten." She called, watching as Seiya giggled
slightly. "If you two are so upset by leaving each other's side, why don't
you invite Miss Tenou to sleep over?"
"Yeah! Stay Haruka!" Seiya agreed, eyes twinkling
merrily. "You make great waffles!"
"Always an ulterior motive, yeah Seiya?" Taiki
sighed, lips quirking up at the sides.
"Ulti...wha?
Seiya blinked. Taiki sweatdropped. Yaten smiled, relieved, and turned to
Haruka.
"Would you like to?" she asked eagerly, already
knowing the answer.
"What? Sleep over? Or make
breakfast?" Haruka grinned mischievously. Yaten laughed.
"Sleep over!" she said as Seiya shouted,
“Waffles!”
"Sure." Haruka smiled, ruffling Yaten’s hair.
Yaten clapped happily.
"Your pyjamas are in the laundry.” She said, walking
into the next room. “You can wear some of Seiya's."
Haruka made an exaggerated face as she followed, slipping
off her shoes. "Must I?”
“Unless you prefer to sleep in the nude.” Seiya laughed.
Taiki raised an eyebrow at her and she smirked back. Haruka and Yaten seemed at
a loss for words, so Taiki intervened.
"Shouldn't you call Miss Kaiou?"
she said. "She may worry about you."
"I suppose." Haruka said slowly. "Although
she’s probably gotten used to this arrangement."
Yaten ran off to find a clean pair of Seiya's pyjamas while
Haruka grabbed the phone off the table. She dialed the number quickly and sat
down next to Seiya on the couch.
"Setsuna, hey, it’s me. Could you get Michiru?"
Haruka said into the phone. "Thanks.........Hey, Michi! Hm? At Yatentachi's
apartment. No. Actually, I'm gonna stay here
again...No. I will. Okay. I won't. No. Yeah. I still
have all my stuff over here. No! I won't okay? No, Michi, I'm not. I don’t know where you get these ideas from, honestly! ...I
have not! Excuse me, Miss 'would you like to help me
change?' Hey! I DO NOT! You know what? This isn’t the time. I’m gonna go
now…what? If that’s how you wanna think of it, fine. Hm? Well, maybe you’re right. You should’ve. I’ll see you later."
"Lover's spat?" Seiya raised an eyebrow as Haruka
threw the phone at the couch.
"Seiya? Shut up." Haruka snapped, standing up
quickly. "I don’t really want to talk to you right now."
"Eh?" Seiya frowned in confusion. She ran the half
of the conversation she had heard through her head. Something clicked and she
waited until the blonde had calmed down a bit.
"Is this about the dressing room thing?"
"I suppose." Haruka said under her breath,
perching herself on the couch armrest.
"Look, I really am sorry about that. I didn't know she
was going with anybody." Seiya blushed, looking down. Haruka waved her
hand impatiently.
"S'okay. It’s not really what
you did that’s the problem." She sighed deeply. "Whenever
she’s mad at me, like just now, she says that she should’ve jumped for you when
she had the chance. I suppose I’m starting to wish that she had."
Seiya raised an eyebrow.
"Should I be worried?" she asked. Haruka frowned
at her, confused.
"About what?" she asked.
"About her jumping me? Or, more importantly, you killing me?" Seiya smirked. Haruka sighed and a
pair of pajamas hit her in the head from the direction of the hallway. It was
clearly a summons.
"Not yet." She said, standing. "At least
about me killing you. However, you might want to watch out for Michiru."
Seiya laughed as Haruka headed towards Yaten's room.
End chapter one
End Notes: Woah, that’s like…a completely different story than the original. Yatta! I
like it so much more! Anyway, If anyone cares, I’m so
bloody PISSED at my fucking computer. The internet doesn’t connect half the
time, I can’t get to any of the fucking websites I want to see when it does
work, the keyboard isn’t working right, my “anti-virus” software is behaving
like a virus itself, the touchpad mouse thingy goes ballistic for no bleeding
reason, my email site is being stupid… ARGH. I want to kill it. Except that it’s not alive. I want to break it. Except that I don’t have money for a new one. *seethes* On top of
it all, my job is irritating me, school is hell, my family is even…hell-i-er. *coughs* Erm, yeah. “More hellish” would be the
proper way to say that, yeah? And
I have writer’s block on my ZaDR piece, “If You Wanna
Be.” I had a great idea (Zim bursts in on Dib wanking
to Spice Girls music), I got off to a good start (“I suggest you surrender now,
Dib-stink and save me the trouble of GREAT TALLESTS! WHAT IN THE NAME OF IRK
ARE YOU DOING?”), and now…it’s kind of
like…smack into a wall. Couple all that with the fact that I’m
having major relationship problems and you have an idea of what my life’s like
right now. I’m not a happy Niamh, And it’s four in the
bleeding morning. I work 700 – 1500. Fuck. Leave a nice (or at least constructive)
review please. Make my life a bit brighter?
