A/N: Okay this is my first
Gravitation fic. I always enjoyed the dynamics
between Yuki and Suichi and I finally have the balls
to try and write something about them! Hopefully this will have the emotional
impact I want it to. Just to preface, I’m fully aware that this is OOC for Yuki
but I think the situation warrants it.
Read, Review but most of all,
Enjoy!!

Yuki sighed inaudibly, exasperation
and amusement warring inside his head for dominance.
On one hand, the sight of Shuichi
dancing primarily by shaking his ass and hips was always a lovely sight.
On the other hand, there was a
place and time for everything and a pediatric oncology ward was not the place
for Shuchi’s typical dance style of pelvic thrusting.
“How is everyone feeling today?!?”
shouted Shuichi happily to the cheers of the patients, nurses, orderlies,
visitors and doctors.
Yuki shook his head in the
untactful horror that was his Suichi. Only that baka
would ask a bunch of kids with cancer how they’re feeling, he thought in
disgust. I know that he didn’t grow up
under a rock but sometimes I wonder…
Baggy jeans were falling off
Shuichi’s hips, occasionally flashing his bright blue underwear and his shirt
was short sleeved and tight, a midriff baring fashion mistake that only the
pink haired superstar could pull off. A mike was clenched in one small fist and
the other arm was enthusiastically making overly large gestures as Shuichi talked
a non-stop monologue about how excited he was to be here from on top of a
counter.
“Does someone want to hear a song?
That’s what I do for a living!” Shuichi called out as he leapt onto a couch.
“No shit,” muttered the author as
he leaned against the wall in his usual black suit.
One
thirteen year old shrieked for a popular Bad Luck song and Shuichi whooped.
“I love that one!” he added as he jumped off the couch and ran toward the girl.
“Do you guys have a karaoke machine?” he asked
the room at large. As an orderly wheeled the music maker out, Shuichi turned to
the girl and dragged her with him to the center of the room and onto the room’s
only table.
“But I can’t sing!” she protested
laughing.
“Everyone can sing!” Shuichi
replied with a bright smile. “You just need to let your voice out and not be
afraid. Besides,” he winked as he handed her a spare microphone, “if you really
suck, I’ll just sing over you.”
The beat started up and Shuichi
started bouncing to the music. “IS
EVERYONE READY TO PARTY!?!?” he shouted on the top of his lungs, yelling
just as loudly as if he were in an arena of fifty thousand instead of a small
room with a mere fifty people.
Yuki watched from the sidelines as
Shuichi worked his magic.
The exuberant singer danced from
person to person, smiles blossoming as his energy and happiness affected
everyone around him. He coaxed a giggle from a wheelchair bound five year old
and laughed with a bald teenaged boy. He pranced around in his too small shirt,
singing and bumping hips with doctors and patients alike.
The kids howled with delight when Shuichi
flirted outrageously with the dour head nurse who started to blush like a
schoolgirl and cackled unmercifully when two of the physicians in charge were
forced to sing ‘Detachable Penis’.
Yuki could almost feel the positive
energy the small pop star was coaxing out of everyone in the room and watched
in growing, grudging admiration as Shuichi sang, clapped and entertained with
unflagging enthusiasm. The boy was a force of nature, drawing everyone’s
attention away from their problems and onto the ridiculous things he said and
did.
“You’ve got a nice ass!” one of the
braver girls commented loudly.
Shuichi bowed deeply and
straightened up with a spring. “You should see the front of me!” he replied
audaciously. The room erupted into cheers and Yuki rolled his eyes.
“I would love to!” the girl
responded with a toss of her hair.
“Sorry,” said Shuichi with a wide
grin, “but that’s property of a certain someone.”
“Front and back??”
“Oh for god’s sake…,” grumbled Yuki
as the crowd tittered and Shuichi grinned a heart-stopping smile.
“Damn right!” Shuchi
yelled and slapped his own ass. “All this ladies and
gentlemen! All this!”
“Lucky guy!” called out a nurse.
“You know he is!” Shuichi hollered
as he launched into a new song.
“I need a cigarette,” Yuki muttered
as he rubbed at his forehead.
“You’re in a hospital,” a sarcastic
voice said somewhere around Yuki’s waistline. “Don’t you think smoking around a
place of healing is a little ridiculous?”
Eiri Yuki
glared down at a small child no more then seven staring up at him with raised
eyebrows. “Don’t you have a tea party to attend?” he growled.
“No,” snorted the girl in her
hospital gown. “I’m ten. I don’t play tea party.”
Ten? But she’s tiny, a voice protested in Yuki’s brain. “Get lost. I’m
not here to be lectured at by a prepubescent anti-smoker,” Yuki said
dismissively. “Besides, what the hell do you know about smoking?”
The stunted child looked up at the
world famous author and smirked. “I’m dying of lung cancer,” she said bluntly,
enjoying the shocked expression in Eiri’s eyes. “My
father smoked a lot around me when I was little…I think that means I can safely
say I qualify as an expert on the evils of smoking, wouldn’t you?”
Yuki paused and then nodded once.
“Touché,” he acknowledged grudgingly. “What’s your name?”
“Mutsumi,”
she said with an uplifted chin.
“You’re pretty smart for a midget.”
Her brown eyes widened in shock and then a
wide smile broke across her face. “Well that was rude,” she said, “and pretty
unsympathetic for how the chemotherapy made me so small.”
Yuki smirked. “I know grown men who you could eat for breakfast.”
Mutsumi blinked
and then laughed suddenly, a belly laugh of pure amusement. “You’re funny,” she
chortled.
Yuki saw her laugh with the same
fearless joy that Shuichi so often displayed and it shook the unflappable
author. How does someone stay happy in
the face of such a life? He wondered as he eyed the bruised insides of her
elbows, the bags under her eyes and the way her eyes shone against the pallor
of her skin.
“Oh really??
How do you like this!?!?” Suichi hollered
good-naturedly in response to some taunts as he unzipped his pants and flashed
a fleet of squealing nurses.
Mutsumi
looked at Yuki and raised her eyebrows. “Does he do things like that a lot?”
“You have no idea…”
“You gonna
do karaoke?” she asked after a few minutes of watching giggling people sing
hesitantly.
Yuki almost choked on his unlighted
cigarette. Now there was a hell he hadn’t even considered when agreeing to go
with Suichi. “No,” he answered succinctly and
inwardly prayed his overly energetic baka hadn’t
heard the horrific suggestion.
“Me neither,” Mutsumi
said automatically.
Yuki nodded wordlessly but noticed
the small girl’s tapping fingers and the intent expression on her face as she
stared at the amateur singers mauling a popular American hit. “You look like
you’d like to go up there,” the author noted.
The fierce ten-year old glared up
at him. “I don’t want to be a singer. I want to be a writer if I grow up.”
It seemed like everything went
still. Yuki stared down at her for a moment. If? Not understanding why, he
knelt down to Mutsumi’s eye level. “You can write
about the experience of singing karaoke,” he suggested. “You can be a writer
and a singer both.”
Mutsumi
snapped, “Are you pitying me now?”
Yuki scoffed and stood easily. “I
hate it when people pity me. It’s a useless emotion. Whatever situation I’m in
isn’t going to be improved by their stupidity.”
Cynical beyond her years, Mutsumi
nodded slowly and let out a sharp smile that Yuki answered. “I like that.”
Suichi pranced over and shook his head, hands on his
slim hips. “You’re making me nervous. Smiling doesn’t look normal on my Yuki.”
“Is he on something?” Mutsumi asked dryly as Suichi
shifted energetically from foot to foot with a little hop.
“I can’t find the pills. I’ve
looked,” Yuki replied.
Mutsumi
grinned evilly. “Well you know what they say: ‘Just because you’re paranoid
doesn’t mean they’re not after you.’”
“Like I said, you’re a smart
midget.” Shaking his head, he motioned Suichi away.
“Go away brat. You’re giving me a.d.d. just watching
you.”
Suichi
blinked and then gasped as the insult penetrated. “That was so mean!”
The kindred spirits against the
wall looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders.
Whipping around, Suichi wailed into the microphone, “Yuki is so mean to me!!!”
“You like it,” the author responded
to the laughter of the room’s inhabitants.
“Do not!”
Yuki raised one eyebrow. “I
distinctly recall you begging me to be meaner to you last nig-”
“YUKI!”
The lounge burst out laughing as
Shuichi turned bright red and clamped his hands over his lover’s mouth.
“Give us some gory details!”
someone shouted out.
“I would but the baka here is shy,” Yuki announced. Placing an arm around
Shuichi’s shoulders, he shrugged carelessly. “We wouldn’t want to upset the
delicate artist.”
“Humph!” sniffed Suichi and in retaliation stuck his hot tongue into the
curve of his lover’s sensitive ear, licking up the length and breathing hotly
onto the lobe. Yuki stiffened in all ways and Suichi
winked brazenly at his shocked beloved.
Not missing a beat, the tiny jPop star leapt onto the table and belted out the high
pitched note that began Bad Luck’s current hit and the crowd roared its
approval.
Yuki rubbed his ear and cursed
fluently in three languages.
Matsumi
nodded toward the capering singer. “Loves attention, doesn’t he?”
The world-weary author whose soul
was saved by a stubborn boy who refused to give up on him watched as the
boy-man sexily swiveled his hips toward the table top. It was such an
exaggerated sexual invitation that the crowd of tired and dispirited people was
driven into gales of helpless laughter. Suichi
grinned unrepentantly and posed gaily.
Yuki’s heart ached suddenly at the
sight of that cheerful face, so charming and loving of everything around him.
“It’s not that. He just loves
making people smile,” Yuki answered softly. “He’s like the sun, lighting up
everything around him and making everything brighter and happier when he’s
around. Whether it’s through his songs, his lyrics, his presence and exuberance
or those obscene stage costumes, everything he does is to bring others joy.”
Mutsumi
smiled and quietly said, “So many people don’t understand the gifts they’ve
been given. They end up wasting what time they have wanting something else.
It’s good to see that you appreciate him.”
The object of their discussion had
meanwhile induced the room into a group sing along, loud and boisterous.
“Sir, get off the table!” Security
had finally arrived, alerted by the noise level that something odd was going on
in the Oncology ward.
“Are we going to let them shut down
our good time!?!?” Suichi shouted into his mike,
ignoring the authority figures.
“NO!” replied the entire crowd of
patients, doctors, nurses and family members.
“Are we going to let them stop our
singing!??” Suichi yelled, pumping his fist.
“HELL NO!!!”
“SO SING WITH ME!!!” Suichi hollered on the top of not-so-inconsiderate lungs.
The crowd exploded happily into
chaos, singing and dancing with abandon.
“So we should just be glad he never
turned his powers to the Dark Side, huh?” Mutsumi
asked as the lounge started to resemble a war protest.
“Basically,” sighed the long
suffering Yuki.
A security guard was trying to pry Suichi off the table but the boy was stubbornly holding
onto the edge with his fingers.
“YUKI!” came
the wail. “Make him let go!!!”
Shaking his head, Yuki went to
rescue his love.
“It was nice to meet you,” Mutsumi blurted out before Yuki had taken two steps.
Yuki nodded at her. “See you around
midget.”
“Whatever,” she said with a shrug
but this time she had a small smile on her face.
Yuki turned again but Mutsumi darted in front of him. “Maybe you could write that
story about karaoke for me?” Her eyes were oddly intent and shining.
“Sure kid. Whatever.” Yuki walked
away but a niggling voice in his head that sounded an awful lot like Suichi at his cutest urged him to say something more
emotional. Turning back, Yuki searched the crowd but couldn’t find the little
girl anywhere.
“YUKI!! HE’S TOUCHING MY PRIVATE AREAAA!!”
Scowling, the author turned around
and went to rescue his lovable and incident creating-prone baka.
*********************
“I can’t believe I got kicked out again,”
groused Suichi as he and Yuki walked home from the
hospital.
“Perhaps next time you won’t cause
a riot.”
“I didn’t cause a riot!” Suichi protested.
“So it wasn’t you singing and
entertaining up there?” Yuki asked lazily, blowing out smoke into the nighttime
air.
“Well-”
“And it wasn’t you encouraging the
patients to strip to ‘expose themselves to life’ after we convinced the guards
to let you stay the first time?”
“Okay, fine, that was a bad idea,” Suichi admitted.
“Really?
Was it?” Yuki sarcastically replied. “Was it or was it not you who started a
conga line that eventually went through four floors and the emergency room?”
“…doesn’t count as a riot.”
“Once security gets involved, it’s
always labeled as a riot,” Yuki retorted.
“One stupid nude, conga line and
the people in charge freak out. They need to relax,” Suichi
sighed. He perked up almost automatically. “I should send them
tickets to Bad Luck’s next concert and then they’d go, have a fun time and
everyone in the hospital will be happier!” His violet eyes danced with
excitement as he whirled to face his lover. Grasping Yuki’s hands in his, Suichi danced in place, yanking Yuki along after him.
“Isn’t that a great idea?!?! I’m so proud of myself!!”
The
same people who just tossed him out and threatened to sue him and he wants to
make sure they’re happy? Yuki wondered for a minute if his Suichi was incredibly giving or incredibly stupid.
“So
many people don’t understand the gifts they’ve been given. They end up wasting
what time they have wanting something else.”
Yuki suddenly pulled Suichi close. “I’m
proud of you too,” he said softly. “I don’t know many people who could be so
cheerful in that place, a place so full of death and anger. You made everyone
who has to live there forget their troubles and pain and just concentrate on
being happy for a little while. It was impressive and I…I was very proud to be there
with you tonight.”
Suichi
was frozen inside the arms of his lover, shocked into total stillness. “I think
that’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me,” he whispered, his arms
winding around the teller man’s waist. “Not just you but anyone ever.”
For a few minutes they just held
each other quietly, each reflecting on his luck at finding the other.
Yuki pressed a kiss onto his Suichi’s forehead and smiled. “Let’s go home.”
“Okay,” the younger man agreed
dreamily.
Strolling along, Suichi shook himself out of his happy daze to smile
brightly at Yuki. “I’m glad you came. I sort of felt guilt tripped into it but
it was worth it.”
“Guilt tripped?” Yuki inhaled one
last time and flicked his cigarette away. “Why?”
“Well there was this girl who was
sick for a long time and she was a total bookworm. She desperately wanted to be
a writer when she grew up and I always tried to remember to force you to come
and meet her but I always forgot.”
Yuki felt his heart slow down and
then begin pounding. “What happened?”
“She died. Poor kid was only ten.”
“Her name?”
“What?”
“What was her name?” demanded the blonde man harshly.
“Um…Mamiki? No. Let’s see, Momiji?
That’s not it…”
“Mutsumi,”
Yuki whispered.
Suichi
snapped his fingers and smiled. “Yeah! That was it!
Wow, you’re smart Yuki! You guessed it!”
The author stopped, ignoring his
blabbing lover, and looked at the glowing cigarette butt still smoldered on the
ground. That wasn’t possible…Why…?
“It’s good to see that you appreciate him.”
The author released a breath he
hadn’t known he was holding.
“Maybe you could write that story about karaoke for me?”
“Sure
kid. Whatever.”
“Hey Suichi?”
Yuki asked quietly. “How about a date tomorrow? You and I?”
“A date?!?” squealed Suichi. Whatever the hell had gotten into his Yuki, Suichi hoped it stayed in him for a long time. “I would
love to!”
“Let’s go to karaoke.”
Okay,
now this is just weird, Suichi thought uneasily.
With images of aliens abducting his sexy boyfriend and doing invasive anal
probes (lucky aliens!), he jumped in front of Yuki. “Who are you?” he demanded,
“and what have you done to my Yuki? If you’ve hurt him…!” Suichi
threatened uselessly.
Yuki stared down at the entirely
serious Suichi and heaved a sigh. He gently clipped
the boy on the side of his head and then drew the singer close to his side.
“I’m still me. I just realized a few things tonight as I watched you in the
hospital.”
“Huh? What?”
“That I’m very lucky in many, many
ways.”
“Oh.”
Shrugging off his odd mood of
gentleness, Yuki swatted Suichi on the ass. “Hurry
home brat. I want to see that sexy dance you did in the lounge again but this
time with no clothes on.”
Suichi
giggled. “So that ‘lucky’ you mentioned has many definitions, huh?”
Yuki ruffled Suichi’s
pink hair. “Absolutely,” he said lecherously and fondly watched Suichi race eagerly toward their home. Walking slower, he
paused outside the apartment buildings door.
“Thank you,” he said softly to the
nighttime air. “Sometimes I need reminding.”
The streetlamp across the road
brightened momentarily as he walked into the building and it almost captured
the brilliance of a child’s smile.

A/N: Well?? How was it?!? I’m on
pins and needles, wanting to hear your reactions. Even if you don’t like it or
it was too OOC for your taste, I just loved it. I’m so proud of this piece.
Let me know what you thought!
