SUMMARY: Yue and Yuki are
rejected by Toya… What else is there for them?
NOTES: *fierce blush* I’ve never
seen an episode of Card Captor Sakura in my life. I’ve read a couple of the
animanga (foul things!) and exactly one of the manga. Yue wasn’t at all in
those animanga, and the manga was the one where he first showed up… Basically,
I have no idea of how to characterize either of them. (And yet, I play them in
a couple RPGs…) I’m really terribly sorry. I really hate people who do this,
think something is cool and just write about the characters without knowing who
they are… So, in advance, I’m sorry…

~Yue? Where
are we?~
There was no
answer from the angel as he flew over the deserted scenery. There wasn’t a building
or a living soul to be seen on the mountainside below. That suited him
perfectly.
~Yue?~
He still
didn’t answer. Yukito should have been used to it by now; in fact, he seemed to
be, because he didn’t speak again. There was silence in their minds; Yue didn’t
even think.
He spotted a
small cliff at the top of a waterfall as he flew over and silently landed, as
though that had been his destination all along. He had had no destination, in
fact, but it was as good a place as any to set down. He could feel Yuki’s
appreciation of the beauty of the place, though he was still curious. He didn’t
yet offer an explanation, instead choosing to stand atop a rock that jutted
upward from the water and stare over the edge of the fall, listening to nothing
but the dull roar of the water in the early evening sunlight. Even their
heartbeat was inaudible.
Yuki remained
silent for a long time, and Yue was fine with that. His mental voice, when he
finally spoke, was subdued. ~Yue?~
He finally
chose to answer his other half. ~Yes…~
~It’s
beautiful,~ Yukito said quietly, watching through the eyes of the body he
was currently not in control of, ~but why are we here?~
He was silent
for a while himself, staring still over the edge of the water. ~There’s
something you need to know~ he finally said.
~What is
it?~
~It’s about
Toya…~
A warm feeling
of love and safety washed through Yuki at just the mere mention of his name,
and Yue closed his eyes briefly. The wind picked up and blew his long hair out
in front of him, ruffling his feathers. He was going to have to destroy that
feeling…
~What about
him?~ The question was posed so lightly, so innocently… completely
oblivious to the situation…
~I’ll show
you.~
His eyes remained
closed, but he focused on the painful memories that he wished only to bury
forever. If only he could forget it, everything would be okay again…
-----
Yue had
been in control almost since Yukito had awakened this morning; he wanted to see
Toya. There wasn’t any particular reason; he just… wanted to see him. It was
somewhat out of character, but he didn’t fight it. Maybe he was loosening up…
Yuki didn’t
mind; he was always up for seeing Toya. They would surprise him; it would be
great to see his smile when he saw them…
Yue approached the house, wingless so as not to draw
undue attention, hearing a girlish giggle as Sakura ran down the street in the
other direction with her friend. That would mean that Toya was almost certainly
alone in there; good. Better than good. Perfect.
He felt
almost… happy. The day just seemed perfect.
He didn’t
knock, and instead only silently entered the house, the better to surprise him.
Even Yuki was smiling happily in anticipation in the back of his mind…
“You’re sister’s
gone, Toya…”
His mind
completely shut down at the distinctly feminine purr from the kitchen,
unintentionally shutting Yuki out. Another two steps and he could see in, the
barest sliver of the room; it was enough. Toya was pressed against the counter,
his hands sitting lightly on the shorter girl’s hips, as her arms were wrapped
loosely around his neck.
“Mm-hm.” He
nodded in agreement, leaning down to kiss her as she stood up on her toes to
meet it.
She smiled
slyly as they pulled apart. “What about that weird boy?” she asked. “I thought
you two were a couple…”
“I’ll have
to break it to him that we’re not,” Toya answered, and leaned down to kiss her
yet again. “He’ll be okay with it.”
Yue heard no more. He turned and fled.
-----
Yukito said nothing,
but he didn’t have to. He could feel his broken heart as keenly as he could
feel his own.
~He…~
Yue stood
there on that rock, letting the wind sway him. ~He doesn’t want us.~
That was the
final straw that shattered Yuki’s heart irreparably. He felt unspeakably cruel
to do it, already feeling the same pain himself, but it had to be done. Yuki
had to face it…
He opened his
eyes finally and let his gaze fall over the edge of the waterfall again,
drifting straight down through his long hair, hundreds of feet to the churning
pool below.
“Do you want
me to do it?” he asked aloud.
It seemed that
Yuki nodded. ~Yes… I can’t do it myself, so please… you do it…~
And then Yuki was almost completely gone,
retreating away from him. Sadness was an unnatural state for him… he deserved
to be and stay happy, as he had always been… not this. It was never supposed to
be like this…
Yue let his
wings disappear and let the wind move him more. It was never supposed to be
like this…
As he finally
fell deceptively gracefully over the edge, his eyes turned up to the clear blue
sky and the brightly shining sun, he reached tentatively out to Yuki’s mind,
feeling him reciprocate, so at least they weren’t alone. Their sadness mingled
and joined, so that the feelings of one were indistinguishable from the other.
~Why,
Toya…?~
