The Anniversary
Howl’s Moving Castle
Summary: Howl and Sophie have been together since she broke the curse on him exactly one year ago. What will the anniversary of that day be like for both of them? But wait, who is that man that seems to be following Sophie around? He seems familiar but she can’t quite place him. May be some or a lot of OOC.
Prologue
“Howl please Howl… I need you to take me to Calicifer if you can? Or am I too late?”
Stepping onto the leg offered by the giant bird that was once Howl, Sophie moves toward Calicifer so she can save Howl. The one thing on her mind is, ‘What if I am too late to save them both?’
Becoming more determined Sophie sets her eyes on what had once been Howl’s castle; now it was nothing more than a floor with legs. And it was growing smaller by the minute; she had to get there soon. Howl was depending on her as was Calicifer. She would never let them down. What about Turniphead? She had yet to find a way to break the spell on him. No she couldn’t let herself get side tracked like that. Her one focus was Howl that was all.
“Howl needs that back now.”
“I don’t know what you mean. I don’t have it.”
“Please. Please give it back. Howl needs it.”
“So you want it that badly?”
“Yes”
“Alright then but take good care of it.”
“I will. Thank you; you have such a big heart.”
Everything after that was such a blur. Calicifer was free, Howl had his heart but the castle couldn’t even stand without Calicifer. So it had fallen and Turniphead snapped his pole trying to stop it. So Sophie gave him a small kiss and the spell on him was broken as well. Turned out he was the prince that had gone missing and he was in love with Sophie too!
Sophie would not forget his last words before he left to tell his father what had really happened. “One thing you can always count on is that hearts change. I will go home and tell my father to end this idiotic war and then I’ll be back.”
At that time he had been talking to the former Witch of the Wastes. But now it has been a year and the witch had been living with them for the entire time. The prince had never shown back up. Being royalty must keep a person busy all the time. Sophie and Howl have been together for an entire year their love for each other growing every day. Marco has increased his skills as an apprentice wizard. And Hem loves to sit next to Calicifer with the witch; that is when he isn’t running around with Marco.
But as always with Happily Ever After’s there is always a twist. Sophie has been feeling like she’s being watched. What should she do?
