Pokemon: The trilogy, Book 1. First time

****1****
“Damn it Brock, don’t tell me were lost again” came Misty’s accusation after seeing the same snapped tree three times in the past two hours. Under that heated gaze Brock could do little more than to wilt like a tropical plant left in the desert. Until Ash stepped in for the rescue.
“Calm down Misty just think of this as a chance to comb this area for some new Pokemon” at which Brock intersected “That’s right there is suppose to be a forest in this area with Pokemon so tough only Master Trainers are permitted entrance. Not to mention all the potential poke block I could make from the berries in this area.”
More of seeing that screaming would just leave her with a sore throat, and not get her any closer to the next town, than listening to the boys reassurances she decided it best to just sigh and trust their direction to Brock. Truth be told he had never had them lost for to long, and they always made it to the next town in plenty of time ‘Will usually anyways’ she thought.
Even with Misty’s understandable anger looming behind him Ash couldn’t help but perk up at Brook’s timely interjection.
Truth be told he had had many good fights in the past recent weeks one of his toughest coming from a Black Rhydon when it caught him off guard with psychic attacks of all things. He had later learned the Black Rhydon was another product of a Team Rocket scientist who’s hobby seemed to be splicing different pokemon’s genes to make stronger more fiercer pokemon. He even thought he had heard the scientist had begin splicing pokemon with humans before Pikachu had blown up the facility with a will placed Thunder assisted by the Zap Cannon from an orange Mankey of all things.
But those weren’t enough. Sure fighting trainers were where it was at, and he enjoyed every new Rival he made almost as much as Pikachu enjoyed the ketchup packets he had recently started to appear with, like now. The said mouse-type thunder god resting comfortably on his trainers pack slurping the last of his favorite red treat. Like he said almost.
But fighting in the wild was different. Wild pokemon where less predictable and fought with a completely different air about them, and besides you can’t catch caught pokemon. ‘Okay technically you could but doing so was more than just illegal. It went against everything he believed in.’ Ash added as his feet begin to pick up a quicker tempo with the thought of a Forest field with only pokemon worthy of fighting the best of the best trainers.
Of course he included himself in that category, after all did he not just a week ago help destroy one of the strongest bases Team Rocket controlled packed with genetically altered Super Pokemon?

So that was the mood for the next 33 hrs as the intrepid trio continue to make their way through this lush forest with the occasional stop for a battle here and there. Brock ever overconfident in his map skills, Ash as giddy as a school girl with the expectation around any one of these trees would hold the battle of a life time, and Misty continuously biting back her tongue a skill she had recently decided to try and learn, and one she was fiercely considering ditching until finally…

“Aha” Brock suddenly exclaim loudly enough to shock the other two.
“I told you I could find our way through this forest no problem” He declared pridefully as he raced up to a wooden sign with two arrows marked on it.
“No you told us you could lead us down a short cut across a river that would save us two days… six days ago” Misty shouted deciding to finally give up on the ideal of holding back her temper, and she than begin to stomp off in the direction the arrow pointed that was labeled New Sprout Town until she realized she was walking alone.
Turning around she shouted back at the other two “Hey Ash I thought you were in a hurry to get up to the next gym what are you…” it was than she noticed the massive grin he was sporting and the stars shinning in his eyes like a noon day sun. Sighing she turned back and walked back to the sign that was still captivating the young trainers eye.
It was than that she noticed the other arrow was marked by a single X and pointed back towards the heart of the forest along a very unused trail. It didn’t take much deduction to realize this was the path to the forest of which Brock spoke of earlier, and was no doubt the reason Ash was presently showing the same signs as that of a major sugar rush.
Regardless Brock still felt the need to speak the obvious and begin to read the meaning of the X from a book on the local area he had bought at the previous town.
“The Forbidden Trail also referred to as the Trail of Red Tears is the epitome of trials for only the most elite of trainers, and has been listed as one of the most dangerous places on earth. Receiving an Omega level from authorities the highest level achievable before a place is considered condemn and no further admittance is allowed by unescorted civilians” Brock ended with a gulp and Misty couldn’t help but to shiver, both of them looking towards the path leading back towards the forest with reluctance. Especially when they realized how close Brock’s “short cut” had taken them to certain peril. But for some reason with each word Ash’s face slept more and more into euphoria a fact not lost to his two friends.
“No way Ash” Brock stated in as mature of a voice he could muster the one he liked to use when trying to force reason into his friend’s thick head “that path is far to dangerous without proper preparation time and as skilled as you are I still wouldn’t call you a master yet. Not to mention that path is almost twice as long as the shorter one and we both have important deadlines to keep in New Sprout Town”
Sadly with the prospect of this potential once in a life time opportunity Ash wasn’t willing to listen to reason so of course he argued “I might not have yet been officially given the title of Master Trainer but who else could handle all those Rockets and their super pokemon. Not to mention I have already beaten plenty of powerful opponents” a lot more arrogant than Ash was prone to sounding, but his excitement had his adrenaline racing through him and he wasn’t about to lose “and besides the Gym will still be their so I can take the long route and you can take the shorter one so you can make it in time for the convention, and with Misty with me there is no way I can lose” He finished with the most sorrowful eyes he could cast at Brock as Pikachu put down his ketchup packet to better watch the events unfold.
Misty’s first reaction was to pound Ash for thinking he could drag her through anything with the nickname Path of Red Tears, but than it hit her. This was the perfect opportunity to get back at Brock for always misleading them down his ‘short cuts’ and she didn’t honestly think the path could be all that dangerous ‘will not as long as Ash was there with her, he was an extremely will gifted trainer after all’ she thought.
So sure enough as she thought the decision came down to her with Brock and Ash tied in will on this one and neither budging an inch.
“Okay, Okay’’ she finally broke in causing both to turn their heads towards her, both hoping her intervention was on their behalf. But something about Brock’s eyes told her he had already guessed her plan. “If they hadn’t already closed this path than that means it must still be passable so me and Ash will take this route while you take the other so you don’t miss that convention” She held up her hand before Brock could interject. “Don’t even try it. There is no way you can afford to waste any time, you gave your word and both me and Ash know how important this convention is to your dream of being a pokemon Breeder.”
Brock may one more attempt to persuade them but he knew it was pointless, and besides they had been through tougher right?
Finally after a stern lecture from Brock about not underestimating the strength of others and not to do anything reckless, and Ash’s reassurance he wouldn’t and that he would not even place one foot off the trail the trio finally went their ways. Brock heading on a beeline to New Sprout and Ash and Misty heading their own way down the twisted path that lead back through the forest. Before this was over Misty would find away to guarantee she would never have to see this forest again.
