Contemplating Chance
Being a precogniscently gifted was not an easy position. It would always be faulty at best, the barest snippets of possibilities that left only your intellectual capability to decipher into any semblance of a sequence of events. It had its moments like all things will. It was useful in predicting your opponents moves in a fight, yet there would be no guarantee that it would go that way exactly. That's when being able to psychoanalyze the person trying to kill you with your intellectual gifts came into play again. It did little else to assist you. It wouldn't make you stronger or faster, you'd have to train to do that like everyone else. You wouldn't be able to predict the weather any better than the meteorologist, its too chaotic for that. This would not be the time to think about this however, you had a slightly chaotic errant kitten for only so long before its owner would come to claim it back. You couldn't completely foresee its survival, yet you knew if it did... Eventually it would be important in some event for your favor down the road. You can't be sure what though.
The rain slicked ground and grass gave off a subtle aroma to this little scenario as you see your subordinate and underling teammate come up behind you. He respects you enough to listen to you for now, as long as your goals are similar in the end. It is a treacherous ground to tread, but it is necessary. Eventually the sociopath will go his own way, you know that it is a high possibility without seeing it. You'll miss him when he goes. Watching him as he watches you is eerie. You know the katana is in your hands and that with just a little nudge you can kill off a potential nuisance or let it go for a greater gain. What would be the best choice... What do you choose...
The trees sway in the wind as the blade of the sword moves with it as well, you toy with your lost kitten for a bit as you weigh the possibilities contrasting in the long run and short term. Would killing it now jeopardize too much later or would it make it easier? Would it prove to be a factor in the unpredictable chaos of the world? You know the kitten will never be able to kill you, yet it could make life difficult. Then again, it may be useful in the future while annoyingly bothersome now. Does the short-term out weigh the long term or is it the other way around? You can feel the smirk across your face as you toy with it more to hide your indecision. It glares all the doom and death it would wish it could deal upon you now, rather cute almost.
You know the headlights of a car could come soon, so why not leave it to chance for once. Play a gamble on the life of a minor kitten with that fickle mistress of luck. You can see the black cloth part as you force the sword's blade closer to its neck as you immobilize it with your foot. Red liquids stain the cloth and blade as the unlucky kitten's blood starts to flow. How much longer can it hold out until the car comes? Will the car come? Either way, you are fairly sure you will come out on top with this gamble.
Each second is another millimeter into its neck as it tries to fight back, buy any amount of room away from the blade as it struggles against you feebly It's too late for this particular kitten, it will die here. After a quick pull of your bicep, the blade completely severs its head from its shoulders. It was a pretty kitten, shame it didn't have the luck to survive this encounter. It might have been an interesting opponent eventually. Then again, it might not have become that either, all things must die at some point.
Then you hear the screech of tires in an almost irony as the lights of a car hit you and your companion. The owner finally made it seconds too late. You don't have to see the glint on your glasses to know that this surprised you greatly. The rock wall behind you is already reflecting even more light as it bounces off the bloody blade and the leg of your pant suit slacks.
