Shanks had discovered a devil fruit similar to Moria's. Luffy Eats it. Shanks fears another Moria being born, he tries to teach Luffy, the dangers of his ability but will it keep him from falling into the shadows.

Chapter 1 Your Shadow Alone

Shanks tried to get Luffy to cough up the fruit. This boy who wanted to join his crew so badly, the boy who wished to become a pirate, this boy had just eaten a devil fruit, and a very dangerous one at that. 'This is bad Luffy…' Shanks plan for the devil fruit was to use it in order to help put an end to Moria and his plans, and free the shadows that he had ensnared but now…

The crew gasped as Luffy's shadow disappeared. "Captain his shadow it's gone!" Shanks looked down in shock. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!" Shanks and the crew yelled at once, the whole building jumped and shook. Luffy wailed and his shadow appeared on the ground. The shadow sprang up and caught Luffy and pulled him away from Shanks.

Luffy was brought to his feet. His shadow quickly vanishing, most likely joining with the body. "What is this Shanks…?"

"You're a devil fruit user now Luffy, you've been granted a power of a devil but now you will never be able to swim." Shanks said but he was more worried about what kind of devil fruit user Luffy had become. "Captain what if he becomes like him…"

"Moria is crazy and dangerous, but Luffy I don't think he will end up like him." Shanks said and looked at the boy. "Luffy listen to me, this power you have it's the power of the Shadow Shadow fruit, this was the last fruit of it. There is someone who also has this fruit Luffy his use of it has caused people to die. If you use this power Luffy you must only use your shadow do you understand…" He grabbed Luffy by the shoulders in a fierce grip. "Those who have lost their lives to that madman they will never be seen again, do you understand…"

"Yes…" Luffy spoke slightly scared at the look in Shanks's eyes. Shanks froze as he stared at the now scared boy. 'Damn it this is all my fault.'

Luffy was put to bed. Makino tucked him in and as she departed she felt something behind her. She turned and so a shadowy figure standing over Luffy's bed. It's shape was similar to Luffy. "Oh my…" She left the room and told Shanks what she saw.

"It's ok Makino his shadow was just watching over him, it won't harm him." Shanks said and took another swig of his drink. "I put Luffy in a dangerous position… I think it's best if we leave tonight and not put Luffy in anymore trouble…"

The crew hit the sack planning to pack up and sail off tomorrow. When morning came they started to prep the ship. "Shanks!" Makino screamed running to the docks. "Makino what is it?"

"It's Luffy those bandits came back, and they took him." Shanks's eyes widened. "They What?" Shanks growled.

In town…

The bandits had Luffy tied up and they were beating him and cutting him, and were laughing as his body kept regenerating. "This is awesome we got an eternal punching bag haha…"

Luffy growled and his shadow appeared at his feet. His shadow sprang up and took the form of a fist and punched the nearest bandit. "You little brat…" The bandits started picking on him, each taking a turn to kick or stomp on him.

Bang!

A gun shot rang out and the bandits turned towards the noise and saw Shanks and his crew standing there with Makino. "Shanks!" Luffy called from the ground.

"Let him go and their won't be any trouble…" Shanks warned. The leader just smirked and picked Luffy up. He held a knife to his throat. "No you lower your weapons and this kid doesn't die…"

Shanks wanted to kill this guy, but he didn't want Luffy to die. The bandit leader smirked. "Alright boys when they lower their weapons take aim at the captain, kill him on my mark…"

"Kill…?" Luffy's heart sank. 'Kill, Death, Dead, No Shanks can't die…' "No I won't let you hurt Shanks!" Luffy screamed. His shadow reacted with his anger and more hands than before appeared they coiled around the bandits like snakes and the hands gripped their throats. "I won't let you hurt Shanks I won't!"

"Luffy stop!" Shanks shouted and Luffy snapped out of his rage. The shadows receded and the shadow Luffy cast on the ground returned to inside his body. The other bandits fell over unconscious all except the leader. "Thanks a lot fool…" He threw a smoke bomb and escaped with Luffy.

Shanks freaked out and went off to search for Luffy.

On the open sea

"Haha no one would expect a mountain bandit to escape to the sea. Now thanks to you my crew has been caught but I know a way to build an even better team, by selling you a devil fruit user, I can make tons of cash." He pulled a flier for the slave auctions, it had devil fruit users at a high price.

While he stared at the flier and thought of all the money he was going to make, he failed to notice the sea monster approaching him. Luffy's shadow reacted and was able to escape the man's grasp just in time before the sea king devoured him. 'This is bad I can't swim…'

Just as Luffy was losing consciousness he felt someone pull him up and hold him close. "Luffy open your eyes Luffy…" Luffy did and saw Shanks. Luffy's eyes widened and saw that his arm was lost. Luffy cried unaware of the power Shanks used to make the sea king flee for its life.

When they got on land Luffy freaked he touched the shadow shanks was casting on the ground. "Luffy what are you…?" Shanks stopped mid sentence as he felt a tingling sensation run through his body. "Shadow Shadow Form Arm!"

Shanks's shadow started to grow an arm, and as his shadow grew one his own body began to gain a new arm. When the arm was restored Luffy fainted. Shanks was shocked at Luffy's power, his arm was restored but he could feel it won't be usable for some time.

"Luffy thank you, I know your gonna use this power to become a great pirate." Shanks removed his hat. "And when you become a great pirate you can give this back to me, so in the mean time keep it safe for me." He placed the hat on Luffy's head. Luffy gripped the hat.

Shanks left leaving Luffy with a dangerous power, and a dream to be the pirate king.
