Author note: I am making major revisions and going to finish this novel before reposting it. I have temporarily yanked this WIP story because I do not do well with post as I go writing. Thanks to Slayitalldown for noticing all the weak points such as missing descriptions that define characters and places. I am removing all but the address forms of Japenes from all my Initial D stories, starting with this one. Expect an all new, and actually completed novel when I repost this story.

CHAPTER 1
Despite everything that continued bothering him, Keisuke was relieved that Ryosuke was starting the Gunma Prefecture plan this evening. It was another important step in breaking from his chaotic past. All the time Keisuke had spent training behind the wheel was paying off now. He had gained his older brother's confidence in his driving skills. He had finally gained his brother's trust. Becoming the acknowledged second within the Red Sun's hierarchy was a place he had fought hard to win for himself. He had earned his position by way of constant gruelling training sessions. Driving at the head of the Red Suns convoy allowed Keisuke time to nurse his wounded heart. Part of Keisuke's mind kept replaying their last disagreement no matter how much he wished to forget the unwelcome topic. Hands tightening on the wheel, Keisuke gulped down several steadying breaths as emotions sought to hijack his thoughts.
"Keisuke, would you come in here?" Ryosuke called to him through his open bedroom door as Keisuke stomped onto the second story floor. Frowning because he wanted to collapse in his bed, Keisuke raked his hand through his spiky hair, debating his next action. Releasing a heavy sigh, he walked into his older brother's pristine bedroom. Ryosuke sat at his desk with his computer running. His older brother was stil wearing his crisp university clothing and looked as if he was working on yet another thesis paper for his doctorate degree.
A glance down at his own rumpled hooded shirt and pants reminded Keisuke of how tired he was all over again. The sound of Ryosuke's fingers flying over his keyboard was a comforting clack a clack that almost did not register upon his ears after so many evenings of hearing the same sound. Nothing impeded his steps over to his brother's perfectly made bed so Keisuke dropped onto it without hesitation. "Can you make this quick? I'm tired after training all night."
"I've decided we're going to go to Akina next week to tackle their best team and shatter their current course record." His brother swivelled around in his office chair to stare at him for a long moment.
"Are you finally starting the Red Suns Gunma domination project?" Keisuke asked with genuine interest. His exhaustion did not quite evaporate, but hearing that Ryosuke was making their team's newest seasonal plan into concrete reality was welcome news.
"That's correct. However, I'm thinking that we should take this project beyond Gunma. I'm thinking to make this a Kanto plain domination project. How do you like that idea?" Ryosuke asked as he steepled his fingers.
"If it gets me into the pro's faster, I'm all for anything you want to plan, Aniki." Keisuke rocked his head sideways and felt satisfying mild pop as vertebrae settled back into their proper position. On the heels of increased circulation to his tired mind, the importance of Ryosuke's comment registered. The logistics were beyond Keisuke's ability to process for the moment, but his brother had probably decided everything needed to make an expansion work with their current project launch. It was the only thing that made sense to Keisuke since the Gunma domination project had already been discussed with their teammates. It was not his place to argue important decisions that his brother made as team captain. Ryosuke only mentioned plans that he had perfected as a rule. Details would be shared when his older brother was ready to give them.
"Excellent. I've got to decide which Red Suns beside ourselves will be involved. I'll have to watch the next few Gunma races closely to decide who will participate in the Elite team I want to form. Out of Prefecture battles will be costly, so I must insure only the best drivers are involved."
"I'll see if I can get Kenta up to speed for a downhill specific driver. He's improving quickly now that I'm working with him every night." Keisuke thought out loud.
Doing a rapid calculation about the downhill time attack improvements Kenta had made during a month, Keisuke tried to decide how to speed up Kenta's downhill performance overall. Kenta's S-14 was a stripped model so would probably need a few new adjustments to achieve the goal. He would have to ask his brother which modifications would work best Keisuke decided.
"I've heard from Fumihiro that you're purchasing Nakamura's gasoline and tires lately. Why exactly are you so interested in him, Keisuke?" Ryosuke's voice held undercurrents that slashed as sharp as any sword through Keisuke's contemplation and half formed plan of action.
Stunned by the insinuation he heard, Keisuke snarled, "Don't you dare make that kind of assumption, Aniki! I learned my lesson long ago without doing anything that stupid! I'm never going to get involved with another man. Give me a little credit for knowing better than to do something that reckless. Will you? I've never thought of Kenta that way, and never will!"
Anger burned through Keisuke's guts at the memory of Ryosuke's unexpected question. How could his brother have forgotten that he had sworn to never get involved with a man when he was still in junior high? Keisuke was adamant to always uphold his personal vow to avoid that kind of trouble. He could still feel the agony of repeated school gang beatings because of getting hard over his male classmate when he forgot to block his memory of the subject. If his older brother thought he would ever change his mind, then Ryosuke was ten times a bigger fool than himself. If he had learned one thing from his school years, it was the painful reality that active bisexuals were somewhat suicidal by nature.
Snorting, Keisuke knew he had never done anything with his short term attractions to other men aside from ignoring the other party. In fact, Keisuke knew he was not about to change his mind with his future at stake. His existence was getting smoother daily as he made goals for his career choice. He liked the changes he had made for himself since retiring from Walking Man. Hands clenching harder around the steering wheel, Keisuke clenched his teeth and felt a distinctive pop in his molars that reminded him to relax. Taking a deep breath, Keisuke double checked his mirrors and saw his brother's white FC filling his vision. His thoughts dove right back into their argument despite his stern mental command to remain focused on the highway.
Lifting his hand in a gesture of peace, Ryosuke responded. "Gomen. I felt I should make certain this wasn't some strategy you had made to get something that you want out of Nakamura. It isn't like you to be charitable without some kind of reason. Personally, I'm relieved that you aren't up to something underhanded. We both know you tend to manipulate people without realizing it, Otouto. Be careful with how much you help him is all I ask. You don't seem to realize your affect on Nakamura, so I did feel I should verify your intentions."
He could not negate the underhanded comment because of having been caught too many times manipulating others. Keisuke still sought to defend himself by laying out his plans in a guttural tone.
"I'm only being charitable because Kenta has potential. You scouted him, then almost kicked him off the team because he doesn't have the finances to pay for the upgrades you wanted for his car. You made the rule about Red Suns drivers having to get the suggested upgrades that you decide will improve their times. It never occurred to you that you should've made sure they had enough time to save up for some of the upgrades you decided their cars needed."
Keisuke did not curb the censure in his tone because he was hoping that Ryosuke would figure out that he was doing so much for Kenta to help save his brother's reputation. At this moment, Keisuke felt that his almost infallible brother had forgotten to do his homework in spades. Ryosuke had failed to keep track of his teammates' personal situations.
Keisuke doubted his older brother realized that Kenta was dating Sugisaki. Of all the people they knew from their high school, Sugisaki was one that even Ryosuke should have noticed on the nights he did any driving. Although Sugisaki did not come with Kenta very often, he had been at Akagi on two occasions when Ryosuke was practicing. The grinding schedule of courses Ryosuke was carrying did make it difficult for him to be aware of his teammates' situations. However, nothing excused Ryosuke from failing to make the connection when they left together in Kenta's car both times.
"The Red Suns don't have anyone to fill the role of our downhill specialist. Most togue teams stationed across Gunma have a downhill specialist on their rosters. Helping Kenta has been my contribution to the team. I thought when I got elevated to the first string, second slot that I was expected to pull more weight so you can study. My project of turning Kenta into our downhill ace is to improve the Red Suns team. I can't agree that it's Kenta's fault when he doesn't have the kind of money you expected as a member of the Red Suns. Kenta is living on his own already, and struggling to keep a roof over his head, Aniki. He's living with Sugisaki, but that doesn't mean he's got a lot of spare change to stay on top of his practice schedule. I'm not sure how far Kenta will go before maxing his potential. Still, I've noticed that he's growing fast enough as a driver to get him into the first string. I succeeded at getting him into the first string didn't I?"
He watched Ryosuke's left brow lift while he was studied for a very silent and uncomfortable time. How long his dark haired brother processed his jabs was hard to tell. Keisuke was too busy struggling to curb his fury with the situation. Doing his brother a favor by helping Kenta had never felt ominous before this moment.
"I was simply making certain that you understand your own motives. I'm aware of Nakamura's rapid movement up the ranks from secondary back up to solid first string placement, Otouto. I simply wanted to reassure myself that your interest in Nakamura doesn't have anything to do with your high score on the Kinsey and Klein scales, Keisuke."
"So? A stupid score doesn't mean that I'm going to do anything crazy in reality, Aniki! Trust me! The last thing I'll ever do is get involved with another man. Do you mind dropping this dead end subject before I get really pissed?"
"Fine. As I was saying before we got side-tracked, I'm thinking about putting together an elite team for any out of prefecture racing. I'll choose the best qualified drivers from the Red Suns after I've decided how to proceed. For now, make certain you keep improving your weekly time attacks, Keisuke. I'd hate to choose someone else because of you suddenly having poor performances." Ryosuke swivelled his chair back toward his desk and glanced at his computer monitor.
"Got it. I'm the Red Suns number two driver because I've been training my ass off, Aniki. Whatever you decide, I won't let you down. Now can I go to bed?" Irritation tainted Keisuke's voice.
"Sleep well, Otouto. We'll discuss our attack strategies for Akina's touge after you get up tomorrow afternoon. I'll show you the simulation of the course then. I want to go to Akina tomorrow evening for our practice runs."
"Fine, I'll be waiting for you to come home from uni." Relieved by his dismissal, Keisuke fled to the quiet sanctuary of his own darkened bedroom. He stumbled on something in the darkness as he sought his bed. A soft curse flew off his lips as Keisuke jerked his hooded shirt off, tossing it on the floor. Shedding his pants, Keisuke pawed his bed until he found and could pull on his sleep wear. Once dressed, he dove onto his bed. Seeking blindly for his wayward top sheet, he continued to wrestle with anger.
Perhaps FD's unexpected position as the lead car was Ryosuke's way of apologizing for his unintended ruthlessness and mistrust. Having reminded him of everything Keisuke desperately wanted to forget was cruel enough to warrant such a peace offering. Ryosuke had hurt him deeply by broaching the only forbidden subject that existed. Keisuke knew his brother's thoughtless remarks had been curiosity driven, not maliciously intended. However, getting to lead the team did not ease his anger and pain over the suspicions Ryosuke's question conveyed.
Shaking his head in an attempt to clear the residual irritation his memory was causing, Keisuke glared at the truck puttering along beside an equally slow family sedan. The rules did not allow him to abandon the Red Suns convoy. He had to uphold those laws if he was going to lead the team after Ryosuke left for his residency.
Getting the lead position did not calm his anger over Ryosuke's stupid conclusions. He was never going to be romantically interested in Kenta. Getting misread by his brother grounded Keisuke's anger in raw, badly shaken emotions. Ryosuke's questions suggested that his brother lacked faith in his determination to live the straight life he had chosen. Keisuke sensed that Ryosuke's motives were concern driven. After helping him overcome vicious odds against homophobic teenaged men time and again, Keisuke felt his brother should have known he was sincerely changing. If not for Sachi and Shinobu helping beat off his attackers with their shinai, Keisuke doubted he would have survived school.
High school had been equally difficult at first. Somehow he had managed to graduate in the upper levels, yet Keisuke had often vanished for days to nurse his constant build up of rage. Keisuke had learned how to fight more viciously than his opponents. Because of the unwanted glitch in his personality, Keisuke had risen to great heights as a fighter. The necessity to protect himself from homophobic bastards intent on making an example of him had hardened Keisuke's will. He did not give trust before a person earned it. The only exception to the rules was his older brother.
Born of his greatest shame in being bisexual, Keisuke had achieved a worthwhile triumph. His fighting skills helped him create the most formidable gang in the Gunma Prefecture. Walking Man ultimately rid his community of a criminal drug syndicate. The rumors about him tapered off after the Walking Man gang succeeded in protecting their community. The hatred faded fast in the wake of his actions to protect the innocent. Protective actions had erased many of the harsh judgements. Most of his community now thought of him as a wayward youth with a samurai's honor.
That was the biggest reason he was so angry at Ryosuke. If anyone should have understood that he was dedicated to turning his life around, it should be his brother. Yet for some reason, Ryosuke continued to bring up the one painful subject he knew not to mention. This unwanted glitch in his personality had no real cure. All Keisuke could do, was doggedly insure that he never crossed the line into a same sex romance. That was one rule Keisuke had made for himself that was iron clad. Turning his life around was integral to upholding his decision. Never had he, nor ever would he sleep with another man.
A glance in his rearview showed Keisuke that the Red Suns were still in formation. The truck slouched off the highway, and Keisuke increased his speed. Feeling the quiet thrum of power emanating from his steering wheel was a relief. Only in driving had Keisuke found genuine peace. Now, he sought to find that calm again while keeping an eye out for the correct turn off. Seeing the Akina sign, he flipped his blinker switch and dove off the highway. His teammates followed in his FD's wake.
The trip up the mountain was uneventful. Keisuke studied the course as he drove it for the first time. The five consecutive hairpins would be the hardest part to master. The midrange curves provided an interesting section to pass another driver if there was real talent among the drivers on this mountain. The straights were not very long, a dreary prospect since his twin turbo engine loved to fly. Taking on the uphill would be better for his FD. However, if a good downhill racer was among Akina's touge drivers, Kenta might not be ready for the downhill challenge yet.
Seeing a group of cars on the side of the road, Keisuke slowed, giving them a cursory look over. Several men were standing around as if in a meeting. He figured he was in the right place, so Keisuke stopped his car, shifting into neutral, and pulling his e-brake. A glance in his rearview revealed that his brother's car rolled to a stop behind him. Keisuke took a deep breath and released it on a cleansing sigh. It was show time.
Wiping all traces of hurt and anger from his face, Keisuke exited his vehicle. He began scanning the group, looking for their captain. Feeling his brother's presence at his back, Keisuke turned his head toward Ryosuke. A small nod greeted him which he returned with a flippant smile. Even that was gone in an instant as Keisuke faced the group and began to recite the speech Ryosuke had made him memorize.
"We're members of the Akagi Red Sun's team. I hate to ask this so abruptly, but if you know any team or driver's who's the fastest on this mountain, let us know." Hands on his hips, Keisuke checked out the Akina drivers while speaking. He was looking for signs that one of these drivers had merit.
A nondescript man in a white shirt faced him with his hands also on his hips. "We're the Akina Speed Stars, and we consider ourselves the fastest on Akina."
He heard Ryosuke's soft snicker, and glanced back at his amused brother before facing forward again. He spread out his hands in a gesture of friendly intentions, and began reciting the next part of his speech. "That makes it easy. Would you like to hold a gathering with the Akagi Red Suns on this mountain?"
As he spoke, Keisuke spied a younger man standing a little to the right and behind the man who spoke for the other team. A shockwave flashed through Keisuke. He found himself fighting his eyes' tendency to glue his vision to a youth in a plain white shirt. Bangs carelessly parted down the center framed classic bedroom eyes. Keisuke was irritated that he was too far away to detect eye color. Lushly full, sinful lips, strong chin, and long eye lashes drew his vision to a cleanly lined nose. Exquisite cheekbones perfected an innocent, yet very sensual face.
Unable to stop noticing additional things, Keisuke subtly studied the younger man. The teen's hair was lighter than most of the men present, yet was not light enough to be bleached to a wheat blond like he preferred to keep his own mane. Despite radiating boredom, something indescribably magnetic about the youth existed. The teenager seemed intent to stare into the distance as the rest of the Speed Stars debated hiss proposal. It was as if this teenager had no interest in anything happening around him. He had broad shoulders and a straight back. His shirt was too baggy to discover his chest through hips' width.
A mental alarm clanged as Keisuke realized his body was tightening in reaction. He was getting much too interested if he was wondering about the younger man's body shape. Keisuke fought to refocus on the reason for their being on Akina. Yet his eyes refused to obey his order to look away. Instead, Keisuke found himself wondering additional things about the unconcerned youth that was oblivious to his presence. Fighting to tear his thoughts from the direction they were heading met with little success as questions continued to flow across his mind.
'Is he the otouto of one of these drivers? Did someone drag him up to this mountain? Could he be a brand-new driver looking to join the Speed Stars team?'
Forcing his eyes from the attractive youth, Keisuke sought to reclaim his calm. His heart was thumping at an abnormal speed. Keisuke was very uneasy about the odd sensation shivering along his spine and raising his hackles. He silently cursed his personality glitch without showing anything on the surface. New irritation was surfacing that Keisuke had to control. He was irritated at himself for proving his older brother's genuine fears correct. His body was betraying him for the first time in four years.
'Have I gained so little control over my libido after so many years of fighting to survive? Naze does this have to happen right after Aniki practically accused me of wanting to screw Kenta?'
Hiroshi had taken over the conversation while the teenager distracted him. Keisuke gave himself a mental kick for letting his mind wander so deeply into forbidden territory. However, Hiroshi was handling the situation beautifully in his place. He refused to look at his older brother knowing that Ryosuke would be giving him the look he most hated. It was his brother's right to reprimand him. He had stopped following the plan.
His eyes again crept onto the young man staring off into space. Ignoring the attractive youth was proving harder than normal for Keisuke. A darker haired, chubby teen in a colorful shirt was making a spectacle of himself by grabbing the other youth's T-shirt in his fists.
Another pulse of electricity vibrated through Keisuke as his eyes landed on the seductive young man standing with his arms akimbo looking owlishly at his hyper excited assailant. Determination rising, Keisuke sought to dismiss the taller teen from his mind. If only he did not get an undefinable shiver every time that he saw the young man, ignoring him would be so much easier. Yet his eyes refused to obey his silent command to focus on anyone else.
It was a relief to hear the other team's captain agree to their proposed race. Desperate to get distance from his unexpected and very unwanted fixation, Keisuke proposed to start driving the course. He needed to escape the other man's presence before he lost his ability to focus on the job at hand.
Diving into FD's seat, Keisuke slammed his door. He needed the close confines of his sports car to ease his raw nerves. Hitting the gas, Keisuke peeled a donut spin and barreled toward the first corner of the downhill section of Akina's slope. As he forced his focus to the task of memorizing the course, Keisuke found a small margin of relief from his hyper sensitive conscious. All of his unexpected responses had to be due to Ryosuke's previous accusations about Kenta he decided. Mind made up, Keisuke was able to settle into the needed focus for dangerous high speed driving.
