“You’re brave, to waltz in here after you and your Digimon have been beaten almost to deletion,” His voice was mocking, calm, but at the same time slightly intrigued.
“Just because Pwakmon’s currently a helpless pile of In-Training jelly doesn’t mean I am,” she said, shrugging. Both her and Chris had been beat around pretty badly in the fight, although he’d come off worse with a concussion keeping him laid low. His Digimon, Pupmon, was watching over them, and not happy about Lia’s plan. Lia was able to shake off the minor bruises and cuts without too much problem. Injuries in the Digital World were different anyway. They hurt like the real thing, and cuts actually bled, but they healed over more quickly, and the pain and other damage likewise faded faster. Plus, there was no danger of a cut becoming infected.
He smiled, leaning back in the dark, angular throne, steepling his fingers. “So, why ARE you here? You’re clearly in no condition to fight.” While the Digidestined had surprised him by fighting him to a standstill, he had many more minions to fling at them, and right now, Lia doubted she’d be able to manage more than one Rookie Digimon.
“You’re right. I’m here to bargain.”
For a moment, he was actually too surprised to react. But then, as she’d expected, he started to laugh. “Bargain? Bargain with what, exactly? Your Digimon are helpless. You’re standing here, in the heart of my power. I could do anything I want to you, and there’s nothing you can do to stop me.”
“You’re right about that too,” she said. “You’ve got us beat, sitting in the palm of your hand. But just killing us wouldn’t be fun. You’re clearly good at conquering, building empires. So what’s one more server to add to your list? I want to make a bet with you. If I lose, you get to do whatever you want, like you would anyway. But if I win, you turn around and leave my servers in peace.”
“I admit it, you have my attention,” he said, looking curiously at her. “What kind of bet would make me agree to that?”
And now came the hard part. “You have to make me say something. Doesn’t matter what, we can chose that later. But some kind of nonsense phrase, a safeword. And you can do anything you can think of to get me to say it, with a few exceptions.”
His smile widened. “Well now… this IS interesting. And what would these exceptions be?”
“First,” she said, holding up a finger. “You’ll have a time limit. One day.”
“This is your whole server we’re talking about. A week.”
“Too long,” she said, folding her arms. “Three days.”
“I suppose I can deal with that,” he said, smiling slowly. “What are your other conditions?
She took a breath. “You only involve me. No holding my Digimon or my partner, or anyone else over my head. That’s unfair. Just you and me. I also want to be able to walk out of here, at the end of my three days. And I have to be able to keep doing my job, both as a Digidestined and in the real world. If I… if you kill me, it counts as a win for me.”
“That’s an awful lot of demands, for not a lot of reward,” he mused. “But I suppose I can accept those terms… if you take some of mine. If I win, you stay with me forever, and so do your partners. I could use some more pets, you can keep Wormmon company. I also get to take right over your precious little servers, I might even force you to help. If you win… I won’t band a single Digimon on your servers, or put up a single Control Spire. However… you wear the band instead. You get to work for me, and in return, I’ll leave your area alone. Agreed?”
She was quiet for a while, quite a while. “One condition. You can’t order me, or any of us, to fight against another Digidestined.”
“Then I’d say we have an agreement,” he said delightedly, reaching down, tapping out the controls on his throne. Moments later, a ring materialized. “And as you’ll be wearing this regardless of the outcome… Oh, don’t look at me like that. It’s not going to turn you into a puppet, you’ll still have all your precious free will. I plan to break you the old fashioned way, slave.”
He flicked the ring forwards, and she couldn’t help the instinctive reaction to try and duck. It didn’t help, and the cool metal snapped around her neck, not quite tight enough to restrict her breathing. True to his word, she didn’t feel any fogging in her mind, any will imposing itself on hers, but something about the weight of it felt heavier than it was, a reminder and a promise. “Now… about that safeword…”
“It has to be something you can’t just trick me into saying. Something deliberate, nothing that I would say by accident.”
“Very well… what Digimon is this?” he asked, the screen behind him lighting up.
She frowned. “That’s a Gabumon. What does that…” she broke off with a yelp, as his whip snaked out of nowhere, lashing across her cheek.
“Actually, that’s a Psychemon,” he said. “And I intend for you to admit I’m right.”
The hell of it was that now she looked again, she knew it really was, she’d just overlooked the details. So now, every time she refused to say it, she’d be lying, and about something they both knew was a foolish mistake. She HATED lying. “No.” she said calmly, although her stomach was sinking. He was already proving adept at mind games, and they’d barely even started.
“I was hoping that’s the way you’d feel about it,” he said, smiling cruelly. “Now, strip.”
“Absolutely not,” she frowned, folding her arms.
“That was not a request,” he said, standing up, walking towards her slowly. “You do it, or I do it for you.”
“Fine,” she snapped, reaching up to pull her jacket off, dropping it behind her. She pulled the sleeveless tank off over her head, her cheeks slightly pink.
The Emperor had stopped where he was to watch, clearly enjoying himself. “Did I tell you to stop?” he said when she paused.
Growling slightly, she knelt to undo her boots, pulling them off, followed by her socks. Before she could think about it, she undid her pants too, pushing them down and kicking them free, turning to face him, her cheeks now brilliant red. “There. Satisfied?”
“No.” he said, stepping forward the last couple of steps quickly. He seized onto her bra, unclipping it and yanking it roughly off of her shoulders. She yelped and awkwardly tried to cover her breasts, which meant she couldn’t stop him from reaching down, pulling her panties until they tore off, leaving an angry red line on her hip. He slapped her, quickly enough she didn’t see it coming. “When I tell you to do something,” another slap, on the other cheek, “I expect you to do it properly.” Again, across the left cheek again, right on top of the first one. “Understand?”
“Yes,” she gasped, before she could even think to say anything else.
“For the next three days, you will wear nothing but my ring. And we will have to work on your manners. You can address me as Lord, or Master, or Emperor, whichever you prefer.”
The sharp stinging in her cheeks was starting to subside slightly, and Lia glared up at him. “You have a very high opinion of yourself, don’t you?”
He laughed, and hit her again, a fist this time instead of an open hand. Before she realized it, she was on the ground, the taste of blood in her mouth. “Of course I do,” he said. “And you might want to keep a more civil tone in your head… unless you’ve forgotten, I can do anything I want to you for the next three days.”
“I’ll survive it,” she said, rubbing her jaw slightly, standing up so she didn’t feel quite so vulnerable.
“We’ll see,” he replied with a grin, lighting up the screen again. “What Digimon is this?”
“That’s a Gabumon,” she said, baring her teeth in something that was more of a grimace than a smile.
His grin widened. “I see we have a lot of work to do.”
