Fairy Tail: Magical Evolution
Chapter 1: Canceling Ice Apocalypse part 1
Somewhere on the Fiore west coast, 27th February 733
Evening was slowly approaching when Lilli'th arrived at neat little estate. She quarreled for longer moment with guarding gate elderly man who wasn't very convinced that she's an old friend of house owner.
"You shouldn't stay outside," she said when reached the terrace, "at least not before the sunset?"
"Who is the invader?" somewhat casually said lying on a sun lounger Luna, which was still bathed in rays of setting sun.
"Forgive me my lady," began a little nervous servant, who came from behind the woman standing in the doorway. "She says she's Lilli'th and has a important reason to visit."
"Lilli'th?" Corona slowly stood up and fixed her gaze on the other woman. After a moment, turned to the man standing still. "You can go. If I need you I'll call."
"As you command," he said and bowed, then turned and disappeared into the house.
"Will you be long keep looking at me? You well know that since 'then' time I'll never get back to orginal body," slowly started walking towards the railings . After a moment she stood next to lady of the house.
"Indeed. But that the price of your immortality, is it old friend?"
"You also paid considerable price in order to survive after the end of that war," Lilli'th looked at the sky.
"Being Cursed is not so bad. You would get used to it after the first century even to occasional decade long coma. Since I already know that you're 'this' slayer probably your visit isn't a coincidence, is it?" she turned and slowly walked toward the door leading to the inside.
"Inferno, Adam, you, me and the rest. Ten, which still wanders around world in one or another form. So although I need to state I didn't came for pure desire to chat with an old friend. But maybe someday I should do it, " slowly followed the red-haired woman.
"Maybe you should. Does again approaching the time when most of us will meet on the very nice meeting after decades? What's up with the rest of the living, dead, half-dead and the other states of existence?" laughed Luna masking the nervousness she felt.
"Abuelo few weeks ago began to be extremely active in the neighboring country," Lilli'th sat on her chair pointed by the lady of the house. "I suspect that in the next few days our dear Cassandra will find us and begins to spin her... visions."
"Ah, good old May and her predictions. Anyway does any of the 'big ' trinity of self-proclaimed perfect slayers betrayed any signs of activity? " said casually taller women.
"No yet but it's a matter of few days when they show up somewhere and probably will be close to one of the other nine," she said staring for a moment at sitting in front of her high red-haired woman with red eyes.
"So we can only wait what will bring remain days before meeting."
"Another skirmish," yawned Lilli'th. "Maybe this time something happens?"
"Maybe. For now I need eat something and take a nap but that at the morning ," said red-eyed woman and looking in the direction of one of the doors she called a servant.
"You called Milady?" asked butler when he showed up a few minutes later.
"Bring me a bottle of blood from the basement and for my companion some food," she turned to Lilli'th. "Any particular wishes?"
"I'm not picky. Better nothing looking or tasting awful, " smiled brown-eyed woman. "Besides I did eat not so long ago so I won't eat much. I prefer to hold the slim figure."
"You and slim figure? After all you can always change to a new body, slimwe and younger. I need pay more attention to my diet and do not drink any old blood," Luna stood up and slowly walked toward the door leading into the depths of the house. The butler followed her.
4th February
It's been already about an hour after dusk when at the gate of the estate appeared a short woman dressed as a peasant woman with pretty much worn out jacked with hood put on a top of rest clothes and supporting herself with a long wooden stick much longer than her height.
"What happened grandma?" big man stopped her when she quietly revealed previously hidden in the shadow of the hood face for a moment and looked straight into his eyes.
"Tell Mrs. Corona that Cassandra had arrived," she said, but still focusing his penetrating gaze on him. He felt a bit uncomfortable feeling something strange and ominous in the way as she looked at him. Despite she looked for a fairly old lady her eyes belonged to a person who had just entered into adulthood.
"Yes," he replied and left her in front of the entrance slowly traversing the path between the gate and the estate.
"Hurry up young man," he heard a voice behind her followed by a loud tapping of the wooden stick into the pavement.
" Hmpf. This world begins to descend to the dogs," May muttered under her breath when despite passing a long time man didn't come back yet. She was beginning to consider even to ignore him and getting on her own to seen in distance house when toward the gate was approaching a red-haired woman holding lighted lantern.
"Luna," said only Cass when the other women opened gate.
"As always, nice to see you Cassandra. Did you come to replenish stocks or...." before she could continue an elderly woman interrupted her.
"Winter. Soon Winter arrives. Did you used the time that has passed to prepare for it?" she was saying while going ahead, not paying much attention to following next to her other woman.
"Already for several decades you have been talking about the coming winter. Yet still it didn't happen. Certainly you not see anything interesting in all these visions of the future?" Luna snapped.
"Recently, more and more visions shows the same scenario. Ice, frost, Winter, " emotionlessly and calmly answered May when approaching the door.
"If you mentioning cold and ice only one of the slayers comes to my mind. Do you thought about the same slayer too Luno?" she asked the woman standing in the doorway.
"Adam... I thought that his vision to make the whole world suitable for his heirloom and others similar beeings we managed to bury last time," answered Luna.
"Oh, no, it was just one artifact that we managed to destroy. But for now, I need to drink something because my throat went dry during the trip," May took off her coat and hung it on a hanger.
"Water, wine, blood?" asked Corona.
"To begin with let it be blood. Last preserved portion I drank almost a month ago. I can't ask Lilli'th for help. The meeting is a matter of days. Each of us has to be in apex form," said an elderly woman before she moved to the big door in the back lobby.
"As you wish," she heard from behind when with brown-eyed woman walked into the living room.
"I see that even you are saving power by not staying in your true form," commented her current appearance Lilli'th when both sat on two of the three sofas in the living room.
"At the moment there are not too many water dragon or god slayers walking the earth so my rejuvenation in this way are significantly reduced. In addition all of them are in the clutches of the Alpha Omega. But very soon," May smiled broadly, "will a few slayers who will not be slaves of this ridiculous dark guild, especially this one young lady will definitely be interesting."
"More slayers and even water ones. It's interesting. What else did you see in these visions?" Lilli'th looked around looking for a table. Finding it she stood up and walked toward him.
"Coming of potential ice slayer killers," she said casually.
"Adam killers? It's possible that in the present times is born anyone able to measure with any of us in power? Such mage would be really a monster to begin with..."
"Do you know anything more about them? Despite all it's a rather disturbing prophecy. For nearly three centuries wasn't born a single human able to compete with any of us," Luna showed up in a room with a glass full of red liquid, which she gave Cassandra.
"Not much . Moreover, it is really irrelevant in the face of impending winter," said casually oldest looking women.
"Once again you start," Luna sighed and turned towards Lilli'th. "Since we met here all three it mean that the next fight will take place somewhere in the country or one of neighboring countries."
"Quite possibly. Though I wonder with what this time will came up Adam. Maybe it would be Inferno that surprise us this time. Did you contact with local mages?" asked water slayer.
"Maybe Cassy knows something," said Corona and looked toward meantioned woman add. "Did you see anything in your visions about the incoming battle?"
Cassandra didn't answer anything freezen in a slightly unusual pose. The hand held half empty glass, head slightly tilted back with slightly parted lips and staring eyes hidden starring somewhere in the distance.
"Cass?" Luna gently touched his friend, which didn't react.
"I think she experienced one of those unexpected vision," said Lilli'th and then red-haired woman returned to her couch.
"I wonder what she now see?" Corona mused.
When the world around May darkened for a moment she recognized the familiar feeling. She long ago accustumed to feel of panic but she didn't like those unexpected situations when her magic suddenly has activated itself. Trying to remain calm waiting when the momentary darkness ends.
Around almost to the horizon was just plain with rising here and there single or small clusters of tall trees.
"Where did it throw me?" half mused half aloud said May still looking around. Somewhere near was passing some road, however despite how long her gaze was reaching she not seen any living soul. Slowly walking down path noticed the lack of animal sounds usual heard in such a place.
'There is such an unnatural silence,' she shivered feeling a vague anxiety. She looked at the sky to see the sun partially obscured by dark clouds. Returning to look around every now and then continued walking along the edge of the road. After a quarter of an hour the sky began to darken. Looking noticed as previously sparsely present heavy dark clouds began to arrive from the north. For a moment it seemed to her that in few of them she saw something squirming as if some massive creature was moving inside cloud.
"Finally," I breathed a sigh of relief, stopping at the top of the hill and looking down noticing a small village. Her joy disturbed lack of almost any human activity. With no chimney nor any smoke hovered even any sounds of animals that should be in pens reached her ears. Concerned headed straight down the road to the village.
"What 's going on here?" mused strolling down the main street when from distance came the sound similar to a stroke of thunder. Looking in that direction saw as somewhere on the horizon tight cloud cover was ripped apart by wide beam of light connecting heaven and earth. A moment later, she heard another thunder from the other direction. Looking in that direction saw another powerful beam of light bursting throu clouds.
"Magic?" slightly surprised when another thunder and from the direction where beam of light hit the earth appeared invisible wave that threw her against the wall of a nearby building. Wave, which was saturated with raw magical power of the elements. She used to seen in flashes a similar phenomenon so getting up tried to remember where and what it was.
Only managed to evoke memories of the vision of the enormous tower on a small island, in which from heavens struck a powerful beam of light in the blink of an eye, destroying the outer layer of the building leaving only a huge Lakrima, which absorbed all the energy attack from the heavens.
"The magic that allows you to attack from the sky targets on the ground. Magic, which leaves only scorched earth," she started to massage sore after hitting shoulder. "Is this the same magic?"
As if in response to that throu cloud cover broke another beam of light hitting somewhere behind the next hill where the road led, which she was walking earlier. After a long moment on the ridge of the hill appeared a cloud resembling a giant mushroom and wafted the sound accompanying the explosion. Immediately from over the hill came wave of magical energy.
"Ice?" with slight disbelief May said seeing as the earth, over which a wave was passing by was immediately covered with ice. Looking to the side noticed partiasl openned door of nearby building. Quickly dashed there and at the time when the wave reached the village slammed the door behind herself.
'Stupid,' she scolded in thought remembering that this is only a vision and it didn't happen to her real body, over which now watched Luna or Lilli'th. For a moment she listened but didn't hear any additional explosion. Slowly she came and opened the door.
'Is this another vision of Winter?' thought strolling through an icy encased street of the village. She reached to her face when felt something cold and wet on her cheek.
"Snow?" looked up, seeing as the dark clouds that was above began to rain abundant white fluff. While it doesn't been a long time in some places have already started to stick to create drifts. Snow also warned about approaching of group of beings under whose feet it crunched.
'These are the people?' mused while sitting hidden in a building and looking through a slightly opened door at street seen a group of people stopped and their started to look around.
"Something happened, Captain?" asked the short man.
"It seemed that I heard footsteps somewhere here," commander pointed one of his hand directed towards the building next to where was hiding Cassandra and made a slight arc in the air when around his body appeared magical aura.
"Ice Dragon's Tail Sweep," a wave of ice without a problem cut in half the building.
"I must overheard it," the towering man commented and gave the order to move on. It was only when their moved away quite far May ventured to stir.
"No, it wasn't human. Looked like one, but the magic and this aura. Could it be that ice dragons decided without thinking learn their magic indiscriminately even to non-humans?" mused going on the road. The group has long since departed in the direction of where she came from.
At the time when I was thinking what next will happen again darkness surrounded her.
'Another part of the vision or the end?' She had visions sometimes consisting of more than one part, however always those had a pretty apocalyptic message. She shuddered, fearing that now will be the same. She found herself in a room and this time had no physical form, being nothing more than an immaterial ghost.
"How does magic terraforming?" Adam asked, looking towards one of the other mages present in the room.
"We're almost in accordance with the theoretical calculations," replied the man.
"What do you mean 'almost'?" ice slayer eyes flashed red.
"My friend wants to say that the expansion of the ice cover is about ten percent slower than would result from previous calculation," said the other man quickly.
"Yes. So far, we have not tested the effectiveness of a domino effect and even less impact of firing Etherionu on the rate of terraforming. Maybe... maybe we have taken too optimistic theoretical values," he gulped waiting for chief response.
Adam stood up and walked over to the screen on which was displayed a world map. In one of the western countries in several places were constantly updated sprawling white areas.
"Yesterday the cradle of technomagic and progress in the discovery of new and used magic today Caelum is slowly changing into an icy wasteland," Raven laughed demonically on what others present also laughed not wanting to arouse his anger.
"How much more time in accordance with current data before terraforming Caelum come to an end?" suddenly stopping laughing Adam looked at one of the other mages.
"The plan included ending within six hours, however currently estimated time is twelve hours," quickly replied the tall man.
"And what about the Magic Council? Already have time to figure out the current situation? " looked at the tall slender magician who before answer put his monocle.
"They're trying to gather data on the changes currently taking place in Caleum. Explanation why they registered more than one attack corresponding to the Etherion attack pattern," he said slowly, with undisguised satisfaction. "The rest of the magical world certainly will demand explanations why there was other magical satellites with attack identical to Etherion. Likely consequences for the council will be more severe than those after attempt to destroy the only finite R tower system off the coast of Bosco and Fiore few years ago."
"I see that, apart from the delay in terraforming all going according to your plan," laughed the tall man who had just entered the room.
"Ao brother," Adam came over and hugged him. "Look at your own eyes is born a new world order. Oracion Seis destroyed by legal guilds Grimore Heart the same and only Tartarus are still trying to recreate world to what wanted that Zeref. But when he finally start making moves about it we'll be rulers of this world."
"Zeref. Ah, those good old times and the ignorant Acknologia seduced by promises of becoming a dragon king," he laughed ironically Ao. "But remember that I'm the boss here and not get used to such buoss around my subordinates."
"Still our goals in the most parts overlap," Adam turned towards the screen, "so I don't see any conflict."
"If someone from Tartarus came remember that we don't know nothing about this unfortunate accident or even more that we're involved in it," with commanding voice told toward gathered in the room Ao. "Convey that to all members of the guild."
"Master," one of the mages came to Ao. "They actualy currently trying to to contact us."
"Hello," appeared on the screen Silver's face. "Something is happening in Caleum. Do you know anything about it even quite by chance?"
"Of course not," interrupted Adam on what man on the screen slightly winced.
"Raven. Does it throw you so far? Nevermind. I just wanted to tell you all that I going to Caleum to see it up close and if I meet any of you will kill."
"Then we must refrain from sending a group investigating the local magical phenomenon," said with feigned kindness and concern Ao.
"Say hi to Kyouka from me," added ice slayer right before Silver hung up.
"Kyouka?" Ao raised one of his eyebrows.
"Interesting demoness. We spent a bit of time and it was very 'fruitful' for me," Raven smiled mysteriously before he left the room.
"Keep me informed about progress of terraforming, " gave a simple order Ao and added soon. "And call back all the group sent to the area of area affected by terraforming. I don't want Silver or one of his companions found traces of our presence or ingerecji there."
Everyone in the room in a few minutes departed leaving Cassandra same. Pondering about scene she just saw didn't pay attention to the darkness surrounding her again.
Next chapter: Canceling Ice Apocalypse Part 2
A/N: Yay so we deep in past and just some susipcious dragon slayers mumble about end of world and some decisive battle or at least their want it to decide something finaly.
A/N v2: Ao is comming ^^
A/N v3: I REALLY hope Silver not turn out to be Gray daddy -_- (lately seems it may be the case thou)
A/N v4: FT: Zero slowly warming up (which sadly may mess up next chap so I may make some short retrospection to get some time before getting to write proper fight scene - I wish it be written already in truth with canon than rewrite it later to make it fit).
