Chapter 1: Willow

Author note: I have never written fan fic before or any writing really, so take it with a grain of salt. I actually have a whole story line for this in my head. Tags are for the future. This is placed pre skip. After Brook joins the crew. Based on the anime and manga.

               Damn it!

               He was lost. Again. Zoro looked around him; he was surrounded by people in a market, no docks in sight.

               How does this always happen? I swear I didn’t go that far.

               Zoro turned into the next alley. Dead end. But then he noticed figures at the far end.

               “Come on, just a little bit?” The men advanced on her.

               “Back off creeps or this won’t end well for you.” She said surely.

               “Us? I think you need to worry more about yourself.”

               And then she lunged. Quickly dodging to the left she punched the one guy in the face effectively knocking him out. The second guy made a grab for her wrist, only for her to twist around him, taking his arm with him. She then kicked him in the back of the knee sending him to the ground.

               “Be glad I don’t have my kodachi with me today. And tell Alborz he won’t last long.”

               Well that was unexpected.

               She turned around and started walking toward him. The first thing he noticed was her hair; it was long (past her butt), and blonde, braided neatly. She was maybe 5’8” and lean. She had medium boobs but a very attractive face. Zoro didn’t usually notice women this way but there was something different about her, in how she acted. And apparently she could fight, and that was an instant turn on.

               “Are you ok?” Zoro asked

               She looked up finally noticing him.

               “Oh, um ya. I’m fine.”

               “Could you help me?” He wasn’t one to usually ask for help but he felt compelled this time.

               “Sure? What with?”

               “Well, I’m trying to find the docks and, well I’m lost.”

               She chuckled.

               “Yes, yes you are, the docks are on the other side of town. I’ll take you, need to go there anyway.”

               “Thanks.”

               They started their way down past the shops and people.

               “So, what was that back there?”

               “That? Just some thugs trying to bully me. Usually they leave me alone knowing better but recently they’ve gotten bolder.”

               “That sucks, why would they bother you in the first place?”

               “My uncle’s the mayor of this town. This group of thugs have been bullying the townspeople for a while now, stealing money, but we can’t pin point their leader Alborz. They seem to think going after me is a good idea to maybe get money out of my uncle.”

               “And you fought them off. Well. Where did you learn how to fight? And you carry kodachi?”

               “Um, my family taught me. And yes I do, I fight with two of them.”

               “Why didn’t you have them with you?”

               “Truthfully I don’t usually have a need for them. Most criminals here I can take care of without them.”

               “My experience, always have your swords, just in case.”

               “True.”

               “What about you? Mister three swords; you a pirate or something?”

               “That I am. I plan to be the greatest swordsman ever.”

               “Wow, that’s a big aspiration, but one I can respect. I don’t really have any dream that big.”

               “Well what is your dream? No dream is small.”

               She stopped and looked at him. Contemplating.

               “I wanna protect people, … and here we are.”

               Zoro looked up, finding her correct. Two ships down and he could see the Sunny. He looked back to the girl.

               “Well thanks. I’m Zoro.”

               “Willow, and your welcome. Good luck with your dream.”

               “We’re gonna have to stay another day or two, since no one seemed to get their jobs done today.”

               Nami seemed upset, eh. Zoro was focused on Willow. She just seemed so interesting and in a complicated mess. Maybe he would see her tomorrow. No. He would see her tomorrow, anyway, he wanted to learn how she fought with two kodachi. Maybe he would bring Sanji along, it’s been a while since they’ve had a girl to share, and she seems like she’d be fun.
