Alois frowned, following his friend out to the edge of the woods. “I’m telling you Ciel. Don’t do it. They’re not just rumors.”
The boy in question rolled his eye. “You have yet to produce any actual evidence they exist.” He frowned, getting annoyed. “So, I’m checking for myself.” Soft pink lips turned into a smirk. “Too chicken shit to join me, blondie?”
Said blond scowled but his answer surprised Ciel. “Actually, yes I am. I may not be a fan of this place, but I don’t want to be stolen away just because a Fae took interest. Good luck and stay out of flower circles.”
The blue haired boy was now a bit unsure. Alois rarely backed away from a challenge. Though neither did Ciel. So, he took a deep breath and followed through his decision.
-o-
Ciel and Alois lived in a place that was not the best atmosphere for really any kid to grow up in. They once had last names, but that didn’t matter now. Their families were dead, and they were left in an orphanage that provided the bare minimum for its charges.
Ciel had bluish hair and delicate features. He was small even for his age of 14 but held himself with an immense amount of pride and confidence. He had a patch over his right eye that had been blind since birth. The head of the orphanage had ordered him to wear it because apparently the sight of his faded eye was unsettling and ‘just wrong’. He thought the man was an idiot. A fat one at that.
Alois was a few inches taller and two years older than his friend. He had blond hair, soft blue eyes, and was a bit on the thin side. They had both lost their parents before being sent there, Alois through a harsh sickness and Ciel through an ‘accident’ that he was positive was actually murder. They were both sent here, soon bonding over their losses and becoming rival-friends. They were always challenging each other and trying to see who the best was.
Ciel relaxed more as he walked deeper into the woods. He stepped over a few rocks to cross a small creek, trying to keep in a straight line. Alois would never let him forget it if he got lost. After a few more minutes he paused in front of a random puddle. The dirt around it was completely dry and nothing else was wet. The bluenette shook his head to clear it of doubt. “Alois’ fault. It’s just a puddle.” The further in the more random puddles showed up. They varied in size but were always perfect circles. He tilted his head. “What…” Did he hear music?
A shiver flowed through him in what might be a warning. But he quickly pushed the feeling aside to find out where that beautiful melody came from. Soon he came to a cluster of bushes that hid a beautiful clearing. In the middle of the clearing was a ring of flowers.
Ciel was a bit hesitant. Alois’ words rang loud in his ears. But he soon found himself standing in front of the ring of daisies. A silence rolled through once Ciel realized the music stopped. “Just because there is a natural ring of flowers and you heard music does not mean a Fae is going to snatch you up.” Yes he was psyching himself up. He imagined telling Alois that flower circles mean nothing. That helped him reaffirm his courage and he stepped inside the circle.
At first nothing happened and Ciel frowned. He was a bit surprised at the shot of disappointment that went through him. “I knew it.” He noticed that one of the daisies was actually black with red stripes up the middle of each petal. “Whoa…” The was a kid at the orphanage that knew about plants. Maybe he should take this one to him. He knelt down to pick it but froze at a chuckle. He quickly looked around but saw no one. “…hearing things again.” He reached out again but before he could touch the flower the world faded to darkness.
“Such a strange human. The whole time you talked yourself out of listening to your instincts. And now you will pay for it.” The voice curled around the boy. Smooth, charming, yet also very arrogant. It annoyed Ciel immediately.
The bluenette slowly stood. “You’re a Fae. Right?” Alois was right. That was probably the most annoying part of all of this.
“Yes I am.” Red eyes appeared right outside the ring of flowers, seeming to just hang in the air.
Ciel’s eye narrowed but other than that didn’t seem effected by the supernatural stuff going on. “So now I’m captured or something?” He’s taking it surprisingly well.
The red eyes rolled and the voice sounded taunting. “What a crude way to put it.”
Ciel huffed. “Well then, how would you put it?”
The Fae seemed amused by this human. “You are contracted.”
Anger finally tinted his voice. “I didn’t sign anything.”
Finally the Fae was getting a reaction. Though he was used to fear so his interest grew even more. That hadn’t happened in a long time. “You signed by kneeling in my circle.”
A sapphire eye widened. “That’s bullshit! I didn’t know that.”
A smirk appears. “Oh but you did. You knew entering a flower circle risked being taken.” The way he said it made it almost sound simple. Almost.
“But not that it’s a contract! What do I get out of all of this? I refuse to be in a deal that does not benefit me in some way.” Anger had fully taken over and his fists were clenched. Alois never mentioned a contract or anything. But even though Ciel wanted to blame his friend, the blond really could only find what information is on the internet at the local library. The head of the orphanage refused to give any of the kids the internet password.
A tall figure of shadows begins to show from the darkness. It was difficult to tell the shadowed Fae from the rest of the…well nothing. “Refuse? Interesting you think you have a choice.” The being chuckled. “As for benefits. As long as I keep you in contract you will not die.”
Ciel paused at that, doubt in eye. “As in no matter what or just years?” That was definitely a bonus. Living forever is a common dream among humans after all.
“Years. But I will be with you at all times, so you won’t get too damaged.” The smirk grew, a few sharp teeth showing, as the eyes glowed brighter.
Meanwhile Ciel’s eye narrowed. “Too damaged? That hints at you being a sadist. And you constantly being with me means I’m stuck in whatever world you come from.” Now he was wondering if living forever was worth it. Though not like he had a choice.
The Fae clapped his hands in a mocking sense. “Well done. Correct on both accounts.” It was obvious he was trying to get another reaction.
But Ciel only focused on one aspect of what he had said before. “You also hinted you may release me from the contract.”
As the being’s head showed Ciel saw it nod. “If I grow bored I may want a new contract.” He enjoyed the next shot of anger in that beautiful eye. “Consider yourself a puppy. One that should enjoy the comforts offered, give what is asked, and never attempt to run away.” The smirk turned into an almost happy smile. As if trying to explain Ciel’s new life was a fun activity.
“If I’m in a different world then how am I supposed to run?” The human was suspicious immediately. “Does it have something to do with those weird puddles?”
The full body materialized, still outside the circle though. Tall, handsome with raven hair, and clothes seemingly made of shadows. “Such a cute puppy. Curious of all around you. Though I suppose that makes sense considering your current situation.” There also seemed to be a soft glow coming from under the fare skin, which fed into the shadows clinging to him.
Ciel glared. “You didn’t answer my questions. And don’t call me a puppy.” Yup. He suddenly wanted to slap this Fae.
An elegant brow raised over red eyes. “You bark like one.”
A growl tinted the young voice. Making him seem even more like a puppy probably. “Be careful then. I bite too.” He was still glaring.
The Fae seemed to get a pleased look. “Oh ho. How interesting.” Finally someone that does bite back. Humans can be very boring when they just accept their fate. To find one that fights it is beautiful. Pointless for them but amusing for the Fae.
“So what exactly do you want with me?” Ciel was worried he may say sex. The boy was way too young for that nonsense. The answer was a bit worrying.
“Companionship.” The Fae sensed hesitation and explained further. “Not in the carnal sense I assure you.” He saw Ciel relax a bit at that. “I have lived a long time and as such I need someone to ease my mind at times when the age becomes too much.”
Ciel raised a brow. “Don’t you have your own kind to do that with?”
The Fae chuckled, the sound rolling over the boy. “I am not fond of other Fae. I tend to be what you humans call a ‘Loner’.”
Ciel did a slow nod. “Ah…do I get to know your name then?” He figured perhaps offering his own was a good idea too. “I am Ciel.”
The Fae nodded. He agreed that names will make things much easier. “I am Sebastian. Wonderful to meet you Ciel.” Sebastian then entered the circle.
Immediately Ciel felt power flow over him and…it felt amazing. He’d never known this kind of power and feeling of ultimate control. Perhaps this ‘contract’ wouldn’t be too bad. If he got to feel like this all the time. “Very well Sebastian…Is there anything else I should know about this contract?”
Sebastian chuckled. He had felt the desire that poured off the human. The desire and immediate growing addiction. He’ll be easy to satisfy then if he gets out of control. Slightly fighting back was one thing. Completely disrespecting him was another thing that he would not tolerate. “For right now, you know enough.”
Ciel was not pleased about that answer. He hated not having all the information right away. “Fine. Do I at least get to say goodbye to my…friend?” If he just vanished then Alois would definitely get worried. And even though Ciel denies it, he does care for his friend. He’ll have to deal with Alois’ bragging but apparently only for a small time.
Sebastian seemed to think about it before nodding. “I will allow that.”
Extreme pain filled the blind eye and Ciel grit his teeth to keep from crying out. He felt something flow down his face and wiped it away, expecting tears. His fingers came away with blood. “What did you do to me?!”
A smile with sharp teeth appeared on that elegant face. “Well if I am to let you wander, I need to see what you do. You weren’t using that eye anyway.” The Fae, man, removed the patch and ran a thumb under it to collect the extra blood. “If you are a good boy, I may let you visit this friend of yours every now and then.” He was interested in why he was considering this. He’d never done it for any of his other pets.
Ciel froze at that. “I thought you said I couldn’t escape.” A shrug was his answer and he huffed. “Inconsistent Fae.” He saw amusement in red eyes but decided not to test the other’s patience. “So can I do it now?” He felt a slight bit of disgust at Sebastian’s next actions.
A long tongue began to lick up the blood from long fingers. “Mmmm.”
Ciel made a face. “Gross. Just answer my question.”
Sebastian did a mocking bow. “Of course my Puppy-Lord. How rude of me to ignore your demands.” He sensed the next comment but wanted to just get this over with. “Yes. We may go now.” He found the human world, even inside his circles, annoying and slightly draining.
The shadows melted into nothing, leaving Ciel and Sebastian in the circle. Sebastian’s clothes resembled a fancy suit but still seemed to be made of shadows, the glow also remained. Weird.
Sebastian smirked, raising a brow. “Well?”
Ciel scowled. “Annoying Fae.” He stepped out of the circle and turned to say something. Only for Sebastian to be gone. He gave a shrug, but as he was leaving the clearing he could actually feel the other in his mind. It was strange and a bit unsettling. Though he would never admit that.
Ciel started walking back once the darkness faded. “Since you can see I suppose you can hear.” He sensed amusement. “Thought so. Does my eye look different?” He didn’t want Alois to freak out right away. He felt the Fae decline to answer. He scowled. “Must you be so annoying?” It wasn’t really a question and yet he felt confirmation and more amusement. This was an interesting form of communication. But he was rather glad he didn’t have to hear the being’s voice. His anger wouldn’t be able to be suppressed.
Soon Ciel was stepping back over that little creek and exiting the woods.
Alois was still in backyard reading a manga. He looked up as Ciel came out and was obviously a bit surprised. He put the book down and came over. “Where’s your patch?”
Ciel grunted out something like, “It was pulled off and I didn’t pick it back up.” Which was true enough.
As Alois was about to say something else he saw changes begin to appear in the now uncovered eye. His own narrowing as he tried to figure out what he was seeing.
Ciel quickly guessed what was going on, having some strange sensations in the right eye, and decided to just let Alois figure it out.
Light blue eyes widened and realization fully set in. “I fucking knew they were real!”
Ciel rolled his eyes at that. “Yes, you were right. This time.”
Alois obviously wanted to celebrate but also understood what it meant. “Oh…”
“Yeah…he’s really annoying and inconsistent with the information he gives.” A thought then occurred. “By the way. What does my eye look like? The bastard won’t tell me.”
The blond shrugged. “Well it’s still milky but if you look at it long enough then this pentagram thing can be seen. It was a lot more visible a minute ago to be honest.”
Ciel grunted at that. “I bet the Fae did it to be a dick. He’s watching through it.” He could feel a shot of Sebastian’s irritation at information being given. And he loved it.
Alois raised a brow. Seems his information was lacking. “Huh…so what does he look like?” Fae were supposed to be extremely beautiful after all.
Ciel could feel Sebastian’s curiosity and decided to humor him. “Tall, handsome,” he had to admit it. “Very intense eyes too. He also seemed to be glowing on the inside and his clothes were all made of shadows. Was weird.”
Alois smiled at that. “Oh! So he’s a Shadow Fae.” When he saw the confusion he explained. “I did more research and just didn’t get to tell you yet. Different kinds and all that nonsense. Also all Fae glow. Just kind of their thing I think. I don’t really know more than that. So…is this goodbye?”
“He says if I ‘behave’ then I can visit. I don’t know what that means though so no promises. He claims no carnal stuff.” Ciel was then taken aback by the sudden fierceness on his friend’s face.
The elder boy looked at the Fae eye. “Yo Fae. Don’t fucking touch my friend in some sexual bullshit. Keep it to yourself.”
Ciel sensed no reaction at first and was worried he might feel anger. He didn’t know what an angry Fae was like but didn’t want his friend mixed up with that. Then he sensed a mix of annoyance and curiosity. “I think he’s annoyed at you being rude but interested in you speaking up like that.” Alois made a face at him in confusion. “I can feel what he feels through this eye thing. He hates me telling you stuff but I don’t care.” He had to let Sebastian know that he doesn’t care if it upsets him.
After a second, Alois smiled. “Cool.”
Ciel then frowned. “Why are you taking this so easily?”
That made the blond raise a brow and cross his arms. “Because I actually believed it. If you had come back normally then I would have been surprised. I told you not to do it and you obviously did.” Victory was laying heavily in those eyes and that tone of voice.
Ciel felt strong amusement from Sebastian. Damn Fae. “Fine. I’ll try to get him to let me visit you again. So don’t let this win go to your head.”
Alois chuckled. “Whatever. See ya. Have fun.” He then turned and actually just walked away.
Ciel was not really surprised at Alois’ reaction. He turned and went back into the woods. He followed the same path, mentally noting the puddles again. No point in questioning again when it was obvious the Fae wouldn’t answer. So he let himself be led back to the flower circle and with only a second of hesitation he crossed into it and into the Fae world.
