Call of the Wind

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The breeze was gentle as it rushed past them, the mighty North Wind and the frail human girl on his back.

They were far from the house, and all that had happened there, heading towards the place that had brought them together, and would bring her the most comfort now.

Their spring.

Suicune chanced a glance back at her, noting his spirited nymph was no more, as Naiya hid her face from him, crying silently into his hair.

He felt his anger rise again, hatred for the man who had done this to her, despite his death, still fresh in his heart. It would take a while for both of them to recover from the ordeal.

A few minutes later, he touched down in the clearing, careful not to jostled his passenger. Once settled, he crouched down, tenderly instructing her that they had arrived.

Still a bit shaken, Naiya climbed down, thanking him as she slumped against his steady form. Ashamed by her own weakness, she sank onto the grass, her long hair hiding her face.

{{ Naiya...}} he thought soothingly, unsure of what to say to the distraught female.

Several minutes later, she whimpered, "He...touched me..."

Naiya hugged herself tightly as she told him what had happened, needing him to understand that she hadn't wanted any of the human male's caresses.

"H-he put me on the bed...and then...his hands..." she stalled, the fear and disgust returning with every word.

{{ It was not your fault, }} Suicune interrupted, surpressing his own emotions at the memory. {{ It is over. He will never hurt you again. }}

His heart ached, a reflection of what she was feeling. Their bond was indeed complete, for their emotions to be easily read by the other.

{{ Please, look at me, }} he murmured, worried that she had yet to face him.

Naiya rubbed her arms, willing away the phantom feel of the man's touch. She couldn't look at him, her love, not until she rid herself of the dirty feeling. She glanced towards the spring, sparkling and clean in its brilliance.

"I...I have to bathe," she whispered, rising slowly to make her way to the water's edge. She prayed he would understand...

Suicune watched her approach and lower herself into the spring, sensing her resolve, the feeling that she *had* to do this radiating from her being. On a primal level, he understood her need to wash the man's touch from her body.

And, in fact, so did he.

Naiya sank into the water, grateful for the cool depths that enveloped her shaky limbs. With renewed strength, she brought handfuls of water over her flesh, rubbing briskly at her skin.

The healing magic in the spring helped to heal her bruises and cuts, taking away those marks with every trickle and splash. Her tears mingled with the water, tears of finality.

She would never want another's touch. Only Suicune's.

As she washed, she could feel him watching her, his ruby red eyes staring intently at her glistening form. Still, she would not face him.

{{ Naiya, }} he called, his voice firm and strong in her mind. {{ Come to me. }}

She stilled, unsure of what to say to him, her emotions helplessly jumbled.

{{ Naiya, }} he repeated. {{ Come. }}

Unable to deny him, she rose, slowly climbing from the pool and walking towards him. She stopped about a foot away, her face lowered, still not looking at her lover.

{{ Look at me. }}

For several moments, she did not, but finally, she raised her head and gazed at him, her eyes dark and apologetic. Suicune returned her gaze, his eyes warm and protective, infinitely understanding.

{{ What happened was not your fault, }} he told her. {{ You are safe. Everything will be fine. }}

Naiya nodded, enraptured by the depth of emotion in his eyes. She believed him.

Purring, he lowered his head towards her. Surprisingly, she stepped back, her eyes beseeching.

"Suicune," she pleaded. "I have to finish washing first. His...touch..."

{{ I know, }} he murmured, comforting her. {{ Let me... }}

With his eyes staring so intently at her, she could only nod.

Having her permission, he lapped at her cheek, his caress tender and sweet. She sighed, holding onto him for balance.

For several minutes, he washed her with his tongue, moving steadily from her face to her chest, and further down. Until, finally, he reached her center, where only he had ever claimed her.

His tongue delved between her folds, stroking boldly against her dewy flesh. Here was something she would only ever give to him. His precious human girl.

Naiya moaned, gripping at his fur, loving him all the more for his kindness and understanding. For his loving touch.

Several minutes later, she peaked, crying out his name as his tongue entered her tight channel. He sampled her sweetness as it rushed from her pulsing core.

There was no question who her body responded to...only him.

Suicune supported her as she recovered, lowering her onto the grass as he cradled her between his paws. She clung to him, her heart calming from its hurried pace.

He nuzzled her cheek, sensing her weariness. {{ Rest... }}

Nodding sleepily, she folded herself into his warmth, and whispered, "I love you."

As she drifted off, she noted the warm glow in his ruby red eyes at her words, and then, all was dark...

Suicune watched as she fell asleep, his heart once again warming at her words.

As he kept vigil over her delicate form, he swore to always protect her and keep her by his side.

In the distance, a dark, twisting form slithered into the sky...

Burning fingers tickled along the length of it, caressing all it touched like an affectionate lover, even as it devoured everything in its wake.

Such was the nature of fire.

The flames were large, feasting upon the contents of the room. The bed, the sheets, the wardrobe along the wall. It had already claimed most of the floor, burning aside all traces of the blood that had fallen there.

The blood of the lifeless man crumpled in the hallway beyond the door.

Just outside the untouched window of the room, a noble creature hovered, watching with eyes that burned as intensely as the flames.

Eye of ruby red.

He had smelled the smoke, of course. At first, he had wanted nothing more than to stay with Naiya, who lay sleeping. But, the knowledge that a fire burned somewhere nearby, too close to the trees, was enough to move him into action.

Gently disentangling himself from the girl, he'd flown out, following the plume of smoke to its source.

The very place he never wanted to see again.

Now, as he watched the fire grow and spread across the room, he felt a part of himself settled back into place. The very part that had turned murderous upon the human man who lay dead before him was now content, as he watched all traces of the bloody past burn into nothingness.

It did not make him feel any better about what had happened, but it was a final seal upon the atrocities that had occured there.

The flames snaked towards the doorway, hungry tendrils licking upon the floor to climb onto blood-stained cloth. In an instant, the tattered form of the human man was covered in flames, steam and the smell of burning flesh rising into the air.

Suicune backed away as the scent reached him, snorting and growling in disgust. A rush of steady, clean wind rushed past him, blowing away the smell, to fan the flames in the room, spreading them further outward.

Beside the burning dead man, the shape of Naiya's mother could be seen through the flames. She was yet untouched by the fire, but did not move. His attack earlier had proved fatal.

She was dead.

Eyes narrowing at her lifeless body, the North Wind was not sure how he felt.

What he woman had done was unforgivable, and he wanted justice, the chance to make her feel as much pain as her daughter had. All because of her greed.

But, as the flames moved closer to her, he knew he would never get to do so.

He did not begrudge the fire for this. After all, he had been born from it.

At the very least, her soul would get the fiery torment it deserved.

From this, he and Naiya could move on. Together.

When he could stand the sight no longer, Suicune turned, but noticed a rope slung along the side of the window. At its end was a bundle, a cloth bag.

No doubt these were Naiya's belongings. She would want them back.

Grasping the end tied to the window, he pulled, and pulled harder when it did not break away from the window. At last, it came free.

With one last glance at the burning house, he adjusted the bundle in his mouth, turned and flew back in the direction he had come from.

Behind him, the fire extended outward to the roof, curling along the wooden structure as it burned all it touched.

A steady wind blew, keeping the flames from jumping onto the nearby trees, and fanning those inside the house to burner hotter, and hotter still, until nothing was left of what had once been there...

Naiya woke to a strong breeze, and the absence of Suicune's warmth.

Rising, she rubbed the sleep from her eyes and looked around. She was still in the clearing, sitting on the warm grass, as the gentle wind blew through the trees.

And there, touching down in front of her, was Suicune.

With a warm smile, she remembered what had happened before she slept, and loved him even more for it. Her strength renewed, she stood and made her way over to him.

Suicune watched her closely as he set her belongings on the ground, pleased that the shadows had left her eyes and she once again radiated the happiness that was hers alone.

{{ I apologize for leaving, }} he told her, moving forward to rub his muzzle along her cheek. {{ Are you alright? }}

Naiya nodded, bringing her hands up to stroke his face. "I'm fine," she murmured, kissing his nose. "I knew you'd be back."

He purred, content to bask in her caresses all day. The girl before him chuckled, moving to embrace his neck. Her foot bumped against something and she looked down. There was her small backpack and her father's rope.

"You...went back?" she asked, her eyes wide and focused on him.

He nodded. {{ There was smoke, }} he explained. {{ Y-...the house is burning. }} He'd stopped himself from calling it hers.

She belonged with him now.

Naiya hugged herself, silent as she thought over what had happened.

"It's over," she whispered, leaning into him. "All that...is the end."

Suicune nuzzled her neck, lapping tenderly at her flesh. {{ For the past, }} he replied, gazing warmly into her eyes. {{ For us, it is a new beginning. }}

At that, she smiled. Taking his face in her hands, she moved to kiss him, caressing his tongue with hers, until he growled, low and deep. Pulling back, he gazed at her with glowing red eyes.

{{ Once you are dressed, }} he grumbled, eyeing her nakedness hungrily. {{ We will go. }}

With a breathless laugh, Naiya reached into her pack and put on some clothes. Gathering the rest of her things, she slipped onto Suicune's back when he crouched.

They lifted into the air and raced towards the mountains, the forest sweeping out beneath them as the sun burned brightly in the afternoon sky.

Every one in a while, she leaned forward to whisper into his ear, tender words that warmed them both as his purring mingled with the rushing wind.

*I love you.*

There I go with "gore-to-gushy" moments again. Oh, well... *hehe*

Now, before you all kill me for taking so long again, I'm just gonna say I was on vacation. Much as I'd like, I can't exactly go lugging the shared computer around while I visit relatives. They'd hunt me down and steal it back! =P

So, how's that chapter for you all? Not as action-filled as the last few have been, but I'm working towards something, so it's nice to have a breather. You'll see... *wink*

By the way, you all got the allusion to the fire in the last chapter, right? Right? I've been working on that, since my paper writing always seems to state too much of the obvious. ^^;

Again, thank you so much to all my readers/reviewers for supporting this story and telling what you think of it. I appreciate the feedback! =}

... Crosser - I hope this chapter met your expectations! Thanks for the review!

... BJ - Thank you for reading! ^^ The "North Wind" does indeed exist in mythology. In Greek myths, the North Wind was a god named Boreas, but I mostly read old European folklore when I was younger, stories that set it as a spirit/god/being that controlled the weather and seasons, along with the other "winds" (West,East,South). I'm sure if you do a search online, you'll be able to find more resources about it. =}

... Mica - Wow, you actually consider this the 1% exception? *sniff* I'm touched, really! And you bookmarked, too! *hugs* You're so nice! Thank you! ^_^

... Motari - Coming from a fellow writer, your words are a great support! I'm glad you find the story to be worthy of such praise. Thank you! =} (Between the poking and your spork, I'll be black&blue by the time this story's finished!) *hehe*
