Integra sat in her office waiting for word from either Alucard or Seras that the Valentine Brothers had been taken care of. She looked at her phone and then down at her paper work. She was becoming impatient. They should have been back by now.
Walter stood at Seras's bedside as she continued to sleep. The crossover from human to vampire had taken a great deal out of her. He was a bit concerned at being alone with a newborn fledgling, especially knowing the power of the blood that now flowed in her veins. He looked down and saw her black shirt had been slashed open at the bottom. The laceration looked far better than it had not long ago. He surmised that she'd received a wound that her body would not be able to recover from. He also realized that Alucard had turned her to save her life. He only hoped that Integra would not be too upset at this news. She had her hands full handling Alucard. How would she react to the news that she now had two vampires to take care of? Walter knew that the rations were going to have to be doubled. He only prayed that Integra would think rationally before doing something she would come to regret, like having Seras destroyed.
Alucard stalked into the night. He thought about where Jan Valentine was likely to be hiding. He walked stoically upon a busy sidewalk. He had his glasses on so no humans would see his eyes. Normally walking amidst so many would have been tempting. All those lovely throats in his reach, but tonight his prey was Jan. He was going to take revenge against the cheap vampire for trying to kill Seras. Jan had tried to take away her away, and Alucard would make the FREAK pay for that. He would make him pay dearly.
Alucard looked around until he caught site of a strip club. He approached slowly and looked inside the window. His eyes glowed and his nostrils flared when he caught site of his target. Sure enough there was Jan walking inside the club. He paid a guy to take him to a back room.
"I would expect a low life like him to come here." Alucard thought to himself.
Alucard approached about to walk past the usher. "You can't just walk in there." The man said with a gruff tone. Alucard tilted his glasses down slightly revealing his red eyes. He needed only to glare into the usher's eyes to take over his will.
"Get out of my way human." The vampire growled mentally. The usher languidly moved to the side allowing Alucard passage into the club. He watched as Jan had just finished entering a back room. He began stalking toward that direction. Anyone who tried to get in his way got a very frightening glare from him behind his glasses. His size alone made him rather intimidating to even the most well built of the bouncers in the club.
Jan sat down in a small booth. This particular club also had a peep show for those men who wanted a little more private interaction with a dancer. There was a window obscured by a black shade. The shade began to rise as a woman lay seductively on the floor.
"So what do you want baby?" She asked.
"Show me your tits." Jan answered in a voice full of nothing more than perverted lust. The woman complied and started removing her barely there sequined top. Jan's mouth watered at the site of her large breasts and pointed nipples.
"Oh yah, that's what I'm talking about." Jan said as he watched the woman begin to writhe on the floor rubbing her breasts against it. In the midst of his revelry he noticed the room started to go pitch black.
"What the fuck! My sixty seconds ain't up yet!" Jan yelled. When the room cleared up Jan's eyes widened in terror. There beside the visibly frightened dancer stood a very angry Alucard. He held the dancer up on her feet by the back of her head, his fingers firmly entangled in her long hair.
"Go home and beg your mother's forgiveness for disgracing her with your shameful occupation." He hissed and shoved her to the ground. She scurried to her feet and hurried away from the red clad vampire. Jan jumped out of his chair and ran for the door. He found to his horror that it was locked from the outside. He turned to find Alucard smiling demonically at him.
"There's no where to run you filthy bastard." He snarled and proceeded to kick the glass window in forcing it to explode all over the room. Jan frantically tried to force the door open but it would not give. Alucard jumped down from the window and stomped toward Jan. Before Jan could react Alucard grabbed him by his head and rammed it against a wall. Jan fell to the ground in a heap.
Alucard bent over and grasped Jan by his throat and then hoisted him over his shoulder. He opened a void and stepped into it with his victim. By the time the commotion had been heard, Alucard was long gone.
Seras began to stir slowly in Alucard's coffin. Walter stood by ready to assist her in whatever way he could. She slowly opened her eyes. The brilliant blue color was replaced by a deep scarlet red hue.
"What happened? Where am I?" She asked wearily.
"You're back at Hellsing Miss Victoria. Alucard brought you to his chamber so you could rest." Walter answered kindly.
"Walter, where is Alucard? I feel so strange." Seras said with a groan.
"It's nothing to be afraid of Miss Victoria. Alucard will be back soon. Jan Valentine escaped his grasp. He's gone to finish the job." Walter replied.
Seras felt too weary to continue the conversation. She closed her eyes and went back to sleep.
Jan felt something strike him against his face. He wearily opened his eyes to find his arms were being restrained. He felt what appeared to be cold metal chains binding his wrists. He looked around frantically and saw his captor standing in front of him with a smile that would have unnerved the devil himself.
"Good, you're awake. I wouldn't enjoy this half as much if you were unconscious." Alucard said with a sinister laugh.
"Get these things off me you fucking psycho!" Jan yelled. His words got him a hard punch to his face.
"I do not remember giving you permission to speak!" Alucard barked angrily. He glared at Jan who cowered before the elder vampire. Alucard reached into his inner coat pocket and produced something Jan recognized. It was his switchblade. Alucard looked at the blade still stained with blood...Seras Victoria's blood. He raised the blade to his mouth and took one delicate sweep off the blade cleaning of any remaining blood. Then he smiled madly bearing his fangs.
"Her blood is so very sweet is it not? This makes the third time I've tasted it on my tongue. She fed me willingly the first time after I shared her bed. She's the first human in a long time who ever offered to give me a little of her blood. Most of the time I'm forced to drink cold leftovers to keep my hunger at bay. I was going to ask her to become my immortal bride, my eternal companion. It would have been such a glorious night. To feel her swoon against me as I fed from her. To feel her lips against my flesh as she took of my blood. But something happened to change all that...YOU!" Alucard roared suddenly and punched Jan violently in the stomach.
Jan groaned in pain as he felt the impact of the blow rupturing his spleen and breaking some of his ribs. Blood began to pour from his mouth. Alucard grabbed Jan by the throat and forced him to look into his furious red eyes.
"You took this knife and rammed it into her belly. You tried to bleed her out like a stuck pig. You wanted to end her human life, and take her away from me. Well you were half-successful. Her human life has ended. Only you failed in taking her away from me. I got to her in time. I offered her the chance to become immortal, and she accepted. She is weary now. But soon, soon she will grow strong again. She will take her place at my side as my dark queen. And you...you will rot in hell for all eternity." Alucard said with a smooth yet sadistic tone.
"Fuck you!" Jan screamed defiantly.
Alucard merely laughed and ripped open Jan's shirt. He took the very knife Jan had used to stab Seras and proceeded to slowly slide the blade down Jan's chest. Alucard watched Jan's face twist into an expression of pain as he slowly cut open his flesh. The elder vampire grinned maniacally as he slowly pushed the blade through one of Jan's nipples. Jan screamed in pain as Alucard slowly twisted the steel inside Jan's flesh.
"Does that hurt? Trust me, this is nothing compared to what I have done to enemies in the past." Alucard growled as he yanked the knife out of Jan's chest.
"If only you knew what I were capable of doing to you then you would have never even thought of putting your hands on Seras Victoria." Alucard replied flatly.
"I don't give a shit bout that little bitch! I'd have shanked her little ass and sucked her dry!" Jan yelled.
Alucard grabbed Jan by his throat and began to squeeze. "You would not be saying that if you knew who you were dealing with."
"Like I give a shit! Why should I care who the fuck you are!" Jan barked in both anger and pain.
"I'll put this in a language that a reprobate like you can understand. Over five hundred years ago in Romania criminals and rivals learned the hard way what happened when they fucked with me. They got spears driven through their guts and up their asses for their efforts. I disemboweled enemies on the battlefield. I impaled them and watched them flailing in agony. And I enjoyed every moment of it. There was a general once who complained about the stench of death as I dined amidst my victims. So I stuck him on the tallest pole I could find. Well, to say the least if he complained, it wasn't about the smell." Alucard said with an evil laugh.
He released Jan's throat and proceeded to stab the knife into Jan's stomach. Then he dropped the knife watching Jan writhe in agony. "Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of time to watch you slowly die. My master will soon be requiring my presence. But that doesn't mean I don't have a few more minutes to enjoy myself." Alucard said leaning in close to Jan's face.
He looked at the piercings on Jan's face. Then without warning he violently ripped one of Jan's lip rings off. Jan screamed in pain. Blood began to pour from the wound. Then Alucard pulled out the second ring. Jan screamed yet again. To finish off the torture, Alucard ripped off the eyebrow piercing from Jan's face. Jan was left with blood streaming down his face.
"Enough of this. I grow bored with your screams. Time to finish you off once and for all." Alucard replied taking out his Jackul and aiming it straight at Jan's heart.
"I hope you fucking burn in hell you psycho." Jan muttered with what little strength he had left.
Alucard uttered not a word and pulled the trigger. The silver bullet ripped through Jan's chest. Alucard watched with a satisfied smile as his enemy's body disintegrated to nothing but dust.
"Target is silenced. Limited power release completed." He said as the wind blew away the ashes carrying them off to who knew where. Alucard vanished from the crime scene leaving only the chains he'd used to restrain Jan Valentine.
Integra paced frantically back and fourth. It had been hours now and no word from either Seras or Alucard. It wasn't like her pet vampire to keep her waiting like this. Even with an army of ghouls it should not have taken Alucard this long to silence two targets. "Where the bloody hell is he?" She asked herself.
"I'm right here master." Alucard replied smoothly walking through his black shadow void.
"Alucard, where the hell have you been? I've been waiting for hours now for your report. Where is Seras Victoria? Why haven't I heard from her yet?" Integra demanded.
"The targets have been silenced master. As for Seras Victoria, something...happened." Alucard said turning his face away from his master for a moment.
"What do you mean something has happened?" Integra asked.
Alucard was silent. Integra stomped right up to him and got in his face. "Alucard, answer me! What happened to Seras Victoria?" She asked insistently.
"The bastard Jan Valentine stabbed her through the stomach. The wound was fatal so..." Alucard stopped.
"So what? Answer me vampire." Integra ordered sternly.
"So I turned her." Alucard replied.
"You did WHAT!" Integra yelled.
"She made the choice of her own free will. She was dying." Alucard said.
"That is the risk she chose to take when she accepted this job! How dare you turn her! Your job is to exterminate the undead, not make more!" Integra barked.
"I told you she was dying. What was I supposed to do, leave her to bleed to death. Why should she have to die if she had the option to live forever." Alucard replied becoming irritated himself.
"You don't make decisions around here! I do!" Integra yelled.
"Seras Victoria made the decision for herself. I merely offered her the chance, and she took it. Those who willingly accept the gift of immortality and are worthy of it cannot be denied that right. She wasn't ready to die. She was willing to fight even though she was at death's door."
"You had no right to do this and you know it! Why should you even care if she lived or died? The moment you met her your only concern was how quickly you could drive her into the loony bin!" Integra barked.
"That was before I really knew her! When I looked into her memories I sensed just how strong she really was. She has a spirit that is willing to fight on no matter how bad the odds are. She watched her father being murdered by a pair of thugs. She was only a child! There was fear in her soul, but she overcame that fear and chose to fight! As a human she was strong. As a vampire she will be even stronger! She told me she wasn't ready to die. She didn't want to give up! She was not as weak as I thought she was. She wanted to keep going, to keep fighting. And I gave her that chance! Who are you to tell me I was wrong!" Alucard lashed out with his own anger.
Integra was so stunned at these revelations she didn't have time to refute her servant's words.
"Do you have any idea what it is like to be alone for so long? Have you any idea of the isolation and loneliness I have felt. No, of course not. To you and humans like you I'm nothing but a monster. My sole purpose in this organization is to take out the vampire trash of the world. You seem to forget that even I have desires. I have feelings. Do you have any idea how much it hurt me that Walter retired? Do you know how much it broke my ancient heart when he would not come with me into the darkness? Do you know how much you hurt me still because you will not come with me? You and he were the only humans I have ever truly respected throughout my servitude to your family. I did not expect to become as close to Seras Victoria as I did. But she has the strength you and Walter posses. The only difference is she did the one thing that you and Walter did not. She chose to come with me. I offered to turn her and she accepted. Why should she be denied the chance that you and Walter would not take? Can you answer me that?" Alucard asked.
Integra started to open her mouth but found no words willing to come out. She backed away from the vampire letting out a sigh of frustration. He had gone over her head with this one. And she hated that.
"She saw me as more than just a monster. She has a strength and spirit that a creature like me can truly respect and admire. I didn't feel it right that spirit should be snuffed out because of a bastard FREAK. I have served your family loyally for all this time have I not? Despite the fact that I despise your ancestor. Despite the fact he took everything that ever meant anything to me away, bindings or not I willingly serve you my master. And I serve you have a strength and spirit that I can respect and admire. But just because you will not accept immortality doesn't mean Seras Victoria should be denied that same right. She deserves to go on. She deserves the right to keep fighting as she did when she was a child. Can you stand there and tell me that I was wrong to give her that chance? Well, can you master?" The vampire questioned.
Integra was stumped for an answer. She hated to admit that her vampire servant had a point. He had served her well since the night she freed him from his prison when she was a child. And she knew that Walter's retirement had been hard for him to accept. She let out a defeated sigh having to admit for once that she was wrong to judge Alucard.
She looked toward her pet vampire. "You better train her well Alucard. I'm serious. If I hear of her losing control and killing an innocent human being then I will have her destroyed. And you will find yourself back in the cellar where I found you. Do I make myself clear?" She asked sternly.
"Understood my master." Alucard replied secretly relishing in his small victory. He vanished from her office as she waved for him to leave.
Seras lay in the coffin bed still asleep. Walter stood at her side dutifully watching over her until Alucard materialized in the chamber. "How is she Walter?" He asked.
"She regained consciousness briefly and asked where you were. I told her you finishing off the Valentine Brothers, and that you would return soon. Then she went back to sleep." Walter answered.
"Thank you old friend. I will stay with her now." Alucard said.
"Alucard, what happened?" Walter asked.
"Jan Valentine stabbed her through her stomach. She was dying. I didn't force her. I asked her if she wanted to come with me, and she said yes. Please Walter, don't you give me the riot act too. I already got that from Sir Integra." Alucard said looking down at Seras.
"Alucard, I just wanted to know what happened. I know you don't do anything like this without a reason." Walter replied.
"I...I just need some time alone with her now. The sun will be rising soon. I'm going to keep her here with me while she sleeps." Alucard said.
"I'll have a room prepared for her Alucard. Right next to yours if you wish." Walter responded.
"Yes." Alucard said quietly.
Walter left as Alucard sat down beside Seras. He leaned down and gently licked a stain of blood from her cheek. He looked at her sleeping face. She looked peaceful like a child lost in a wonderful dream. She could not possibly begin to comprehend the world she had entered. The expression on Alucard's face saddened when he realized how hard it was going to be for her to adjust to the dark eternity she had followed him into. He took the remote to his coffin and pressed a button causing the heavy lid to begin to lower. He lay beside his sleeping fledgling as the lid finished its ascent upon them both. His crimson eyes closed as he fell into a deep slumber.
That night Walter entered Alucard's chamber and left two blood packs in a small pail full of ice. He left before the two vampires awoke. The coffin lid began to rise as Alucard awoke first. He left Seras to sleep for a few more minutes while he went to retrieve the two blood packs. He ripped off the top of the bag and poured the contents into a wine bottle. He poured a glass full and drank to re-energize himself. Then he looked over toward Seras who was still sleeping soundly.
He walked over to his coffin and sat down. He leaned over and whispered in Seras's ear. "It is time to wake my dark child."
Seras heard his voice both in her ears and her mind. Her eyes slowly opened. "I feel so strange, so...hungry." She said wearily.
"You have crossed over Seras. You're no longer human." Alucard replied.
"I'm a vampire now, like you?" Seras asked.
"Not completely. You are bound to me now as a fledgling. I am your sire and your master. Because my blood now flows in your veins we are connected to each other in our minds and our spirits. You are an apprentice vampire and it is up to me to teach you the skills you will need to learn in order to survive." The elder vampire answered.
"You called me your dark child." Seras said.
"Yes. When I drank your blood and fed you mine I became your sire. I am in some respects your father." Alucard replied.
"Does that mean we can't be...lovers anymore?" Seras asked with a hint of disappointment.
"No, it doesn't. We are not bound to the same moral restrictions as humans are. It is something you will understand in time. The transition will not be easy for you I know. There were so many things I did not have the chance to explain when I turned you. Sometimes you will be required to do things that as a human you would never have thought of doing. But you must understand you are not human anymore. You a child of the darkness now and forever. You must drink blood to exist, and going out in the sunlight is no longer an option for you. I am...sorry I did not get the chance to tell you these things before I turned you. I wanted to do this differently. I wanted you to understand fully what you were getting into. But when you were dying, I did not have that time to take."
"Does this mean I have to..." Seras gulped. "kill people to survive?"
"Sometimes we have no other option but to take human life in order to sustain ourselves. We are killers Seras. All vampires at some point in their existances have taken a life to feed their hunger, be it human or beast. Humans kill beasts in order to obtain food. They hunt wild animals as we sometimes must hunt humans. Blood is what we must have in order to survive. Without it our bodies grow weak and unable to function. Like any beast if a vampire is starved of blood long enough, the hunger takes over and it kills the first blood source within reach. I know. I had been starved like that once. It was long ago when Integra was a child and she found me imprisoned in the dungeon not far from where we are now." Alucard said.
"Why were you imprisoned?" Seras asked.
"It is something I'd rather not go into right now. When you are stronger I will tell you the story. For now you need not worry about killing anyone to obtain food. Integra supplies me with what I need through donated transfusion blood. It's not the best I've had, but it keeps my hunger at bay. It's always better when taken from the source. Occasionally Integra will allow me to feed from a human here upon the grounds. Through my long existence I've learned to tame my hunger so that I do not always have to kill the person I'm feeding from. I simply put a human in a trance, take a small amount of their blood, and then erase their memory of the event. They never know that I was there or what I did to them. As I said before, it is something you don't need to worry about. Your first feeding will be the same transfusion blood as I am given to feed upon. If you don't drink fresh blood the first time, then you don't automatically crave it. After a while you will have to learn to hunt. But for now, this will do." Alucard said handing Seras a glass of transfusion blood.
She held it to her lips inhaling its scent. She slowly opened her mouth and began to drink in the red liquid. At first she made a face at how cold it was.
"I know. It's never as good as it is taken from the source. But this will have to do. You need to drink in more to subdue your hunger." Alucard replied.
Seras reluctantly but willingly obeyed and drank in more of the blood. She felt renewed strength throughout her body as the scarlet fluid slid down her throat. She drank in more feeling a little less hesitant to feed. She felt more strength building within her. Her master smiled approvingly as he took the glass from her.
"How long will you be my master?" Seras asked.
"Until you are ready to drink my blood again. Then you will no longer be a fledgling. You will be ready to become a true vampire. For now your will is connected with mine." Alucard answered.
"Is there a set time limit? Do I have to learn everything in a month, a year?" Seras questioned.
"No. It will take however long you feel you need to come into your powers, though I don't think you want to be bound to me as a servant forever. But right now you need to focus on building up your strength. The more you feed, the stronger you become."
"I suppose Sir Integra must be rather upset now that she has two vampires to deal with." Seras replied.
"She was upset with me. I went over her head when I asked you if you wanted to become a vampire as opposed to dying as a human. She's far too much like me there. She likes being in control and gets rather upset when that control is taken out of her hands. I didn't feel it right you should have your human life taken away without giving you the chance for a second life...an immortal life. A spirit like yours deserves to go on. I admit that I did have my own reasons for offering to turn you. I was tired of being alone. I was tired of the isolation. Walter, as worthy of a friend as he is to me, will die a human. Integra, as strong a master as she is to me, as strong a human as she is, will also die a human. I did not expect to get as close to you as I did Seras Victoria. That is before I got to know you. You have the same fighting spirit that Walter and Integra possess. The only difference is at least you are now immortal. You will never succumb to the sands of time as they shall." Alucard explained.
Seras reached out putting her small hand against Alucard's face. "My master..." she sighed. "I am a little scared of what's ahead."
"I know. But I will guide you through the darkness. You are strong. And in time you will grow even stronger. It will not be easy, but in time this will all make sense to you."
Walter reported to Integra's office. "You wished to see me Sir Integra?"
"Yes. I will need you to supervise the construction of a second coffin bed for Seras Victoria." Integra said. "I still can't believe Alucard did this. Now we have two vampires to take care of. He had better train her well." She growled.
"Alucard knows what he's doing." Walter replied.
"He better. I am giving Seras Victoria tonight to recover. After that I'll need her on active duty. I'm trusting her with Peter. Alucard may be able to train her as a vampire, but she is still an active member of this organization. I want her training with the First Action Unit." Integra said with a resigned sigh.
"As you wish Sir Integra." Walter replied with a bow and left her office.
