Chapter 10
It was well after nightfall when he finally poked his nose out of the Burnt Tower. He’d watched as the two trainers made their base in a tree a few yards away, the smaller of the two obviously exhausted.
The white one had been chasing him for nearly two years now, and now he knew why- his friend was ill, and the humans could do nothing to make him better. He wanted so much to help the young one, but rules were rules. He wasn’t to get near any humans.
Surely the rules could be tossed aside, just this once? He had, after all, been hunted down for two years, and nearly captured at least five times. And there was something so different about those two...
The green one was a very gentle boy, and cherished his Pokémon very much. He probably could be a Pokémon Master by human standards. The white one... There was something about him that commanded trust, from humans and Pokémon alike. He’d already caught so many of the Legendaries, too... It was a possibility this trainer was the true Master, talked of in myths humans no longer remembered.
He slipped out of the tower, floating much like his Mew cousins had the habit of doing. He couldn’t resist any longer, he just had to get close to these two. He landed silently on his feet, walking quiet as a mouse to the tree-base they’d made.
----
There was something outside.... something powerful. Wally’s Gardevoir opened her eyes and rose, gliding to the door to peek outside. A white Pokémon was walking slowly toward their base. It looked like a Mew, but was much too big to be one of those. It suddenly stopped, and turned large golden eyes up toward her.
Gardevoir froze. Those eyes... no pupils. It was blind??
The Mew-kin blinked once, twice, then smiled at her. It didn’t feel dangerous, so...
What are you doing here? She thought-spoke at it.
I... oh... It looked away, seemingly searching for words. I wanted to see the humans. They’re very different. Its gaze saddened. I want to help...
Gardevoir relaxed, wondering just when she had tensed up. It seemed so easy to do that these days... But you’re not allowed, am I right?
It nodded.
Her gaze softened. Nimh will not give up on capturing you... He wants to help my master very much, in any way he can. I know it won’t be much longer until you can both get what you long for.
There was a muffled thump inside the base, and before Gardevoir could even blink, the white creature was gone. She looked back inside to see Nimh sitting up, blinking blearily at the stool he’d accidentally kicked over in his sleep. “I knew I put that too close...” he mumbled, leaning over and nearly falling out of his hammock as he tried to upright the stool.
Gardevoir sighed softly to herself and took her place back on the cushion near Wally’s corner, going back into meditation.
