AbortionWhat are you doing?
Author’s Note: I’m finally back and I want to thank my reviewers for encouraging me to update sooner. I’d also like to thank my co-writers Amanda; Tara; and Karai for helping me out. This chapter looks bleak, but don’t worry. There is a little bit of sunshine within this storm cloud.
Chapter 11: Abortion…What are you doing?
It appears as though keeping the child will only put a strain on Shuichi’s body; so what’s Eiri going to do? Does he actually want to go through with the abortion? What news does Tohma have for him?
Shuichi: How could you do that to me?
Krystle: You didn’t think you’d have fluff every time did you?
Shuichi: Well, yeah, actually I did.
Dark: Sorry, that’s not the case. Stories without conflict are boring.
Shuichi: Who asked you?
Kurama: It’s a proven fact; within each piece of literature you pick up, you’ll always find problems within the story.
Shuichi: Where the HELL did you come from?
Kurama: Look, it’s very easy to see that you lack intelligence, so I will not dignify that statement with a reply; besides, the story is about to begin. Krystle doesn’t own Gravitation; Yu Yu Hakusho; or DNAngel. They belong to (in order of the shows) Maki Murakami; Yoshiro Togashi; and Yukiru Sugisaki.
“I know you’re in pain, but I need to ask you a serious question.”
“Shoot.”
“Well, as you’ve heard, Shuichi’s in bad condition, but that’s the least of my worries since he’s been taken care of.”
“So what’s the problem?”
“I’m worried about the safety of the unborn child; it can’t stay inside of Shindou while he’s healing.”
“Why not?”
“The baby’s going to be growing constantly, but Shindou will have to stay here for a month, if his injuries are to heal properly; and his body may not be able to accommodate for the child. With that being said, what do you want to do?”
Before he could ask or answer anymore questions, Tohma pulled him aside to discuss some news that he’d just received from his publisher.
“Eiri, I have some bad news.”
“Now, what,” Eiri thought as he absorbed the information his doctor had just given him; what else did he have to suffer? That’s all his life has been about. Even when he was with Shindou, there was something that kept stabbing him; though things had gotten better since his unexpected encounter with the brat. He was able to smile sincerely for once in his life. The past had practically evaporated, but then that jealous bastard had to go and ruin it. Eiri had to break his heart in order to protect him. Aizawa had re-opened wounds that should have never been there in the first place. Eiri vowed that if he ever caught that fool bothering Shuichi again, he’d gut him and feed his organs to Tiger sharks.
“What’s going on Tohma?”
“I’ve just received some rather startling news about your latest book.”
“What are you talking about? I haven’t even finished it yet.”
“I’m talking about Blood and Ice.”
“What, have they run out of copies that soon,” the novelist asked sarcastically.
“I only wish that was the problem,” Tohma responded with his voice becoming shaky as he spoke, “I know you don’t like for me to beat around the bush so, I’ll just skip to my point. Your book, although it sold out in almost every country, is being boycotted by your loyal female fans.”
“That’s not funny. Tohma,” Eiri’s voice was filled with anger; this was the last thing he needed to hear; his child might die; his lover almost died; and the doctor was talking about abortion,; and to top it off, no one has discovered the location of the person who committed this atrocious crime against Shindou, “this is not the time to fuck with me.”
“I had a feeling you wouldn’t believe me,” Tohma responded in a gloomy tone, “Follow me to Shindou’s room and I will prove it to you.”
“By doing what; looking through a crystal ball and contacting the spirits of people?”
“Hmm…that sounds fun, but no. There’s always a special on the television when something like this occurs, so let’s go.”
Eiri followed his brother-in-law to Shindou’s (well, soon to be Uesugi) room. When he entered, he saw Shuichi’s friends crying and staring at the poor pop star. They barely even noticed that Yuki had stepped in the room. He had an IV (A/N: Those things are painful, especially if you’re conscious when they’re put in. Also if they are put in, taken out, and put back in again. I never want to have that happen to me again) in his right arm that provided him with nutrients that his body couldn’t due to his injuries. His ribs had been wrapped up; looking up from his abdomen, you could still see the mark where the incision was made during his lung transplant. His ankle was hanging in a sling; and tubes ran from his nose to his lungs in order to help him breathe more efficiently. His face was a dark shade of purple and blue due to the swelling. Eiri, unable to stand seeing his brat in such terrible condition, attempted to flee from the room, but Tohma caught hold of his arm.
“Look, I know this is excruciating, but don’t let it get the best of you. Right now, you need to be strong for Shindou. You two have had your ups and downs, yet you still managed to work it out. I know that you are strong enough to see this through. Now stop sulking and deal with it. It hurts now, but just imagine how he’ll be in a month; he’ll be bouncing off the walls and causing problems for all of us. That’s something that I personally look forward to; even though he does go overboard at times.”
Eiri didn’t respond. Though he portrayed no particular emotion, Seguchi could tell that Eiri understood his point. Wanting to take his mind off of the vocalist, Eiri asked Tohma about the boycott. Rather than explain it verbally, Tohma turned on the little television that was mounted on the wall because he figured that actions spoke louder than words. As soon as he did, a small caption came across the bottom of the set stating details about the chaos taking place in front of Border’s; Walden Books(I know Border’s owns this store, but some places have one or the other); Books-A-Million; Barns & Noble; Powell’s; etc. Every place that marketed Eiri Yuki’s novels had a bunch of female protestors in front of the establishment waving signs and shouting.
“Hello, this is Karen Blanchett bring you the latest crisis. Recently popular novelist Eiri Yuki released a book entitled Blood and Ice. This title has enraged scores of his loyal female fans. I went in for a closer look at the Border’s just down the street from American Apparel in Shibuya. When I did this is what I heard: “Down with Blood and Ice; no more of this darkness. Bring back the love stories that once captured our hearts.” As you can see, Eiri has greatly disappointed his fans; since his book is quote unquote “too grim,” what’s he planning to do? This man has never been one to apologize for his actions, so will he merely ignore the opinions of these passionate women? Or will he admit, for the first time in his career, that he was wrong? For more on this story; or if you would like to voice your opinion please visit our website at www.jnews.com(1). Next, we---”
Deciding that he’d heard enough, Eiri reached up and turned off the television. The sound of the television clicking off reminded Sakano of the negative publicity that this could bring and he began questioning the future of Bad Luck. At first, he didn’t want to ask what happens next because the atmosphere in the room was gloomy; and he wanted to avoid making the situation worse, but it was urgent that he still did his job as the producer of Bad Luck; so he had to say something to get everyone’s minds off of the singer and on their jobs.
“What are we going to do now? The buzz from the song “Blind Game Again” will soon die down; and we need to release one more single before we do any promotion for the next album in February.”
“Believe it or not, Shuichi actually thought ahead and had the band shoot another video for the album Gravity. He said that he wanted to ensure his favorite song from the album was promoted before we moved to the next cd. Considering his condition, I think it would be the best course of action,” K responded in a somber tone.
“Oh…okay. What’s the name of the song and when can I begin airplay for it?”
“We filmed a video for the song that Shuichi and I co-wrote,” came a soft, but broken reply from the guitarist, “it’s called, ‘In the Moonlight’ and I think we should work on having it played on the radio tomorrow at around 8 o’clock in the morning. Then three weeks later we should make the video public. By then Shuichi should be back on his feet or on his way out of here.”
After Hiro finished speaking, K left the room to make a phone call. The others thought it was merely to set up some appointments with radio stations in order to gain airplay for the new song; but that wasn’t the case. Seeing the pop star lying in a hospital bed in such horrendous condition made him think about something. Why is it that he could protect him and his friends from screaming fans; a panda robot; and the paparazzi, but not some disgruntled person? Feeling inadequate, he called the one person he trusted to manage Bad Luck better than he ever could.
“Hi Claude; what’s up?”
“Nothing much; listen I want talk to you about something important.”
“Is it about my sugar muffin, Shuichi?”
“How did you know?”
“Call it Women’s Intuition.”
“He’s in bad condition; he has to stay in the hospital for a month.”
“Claude,” Rage said as her voice gradually increased in volume, “what the hell happened to him and how could you let something like this take place? You’re supposed to be the manager of this group; how could you let some pussy get past your defenses and brutally assault a member of the band? What kind of manager are you? I’m beginning to think that you’re incompetent! What do you have to say for yourself?”
“I knew you’d react like this, but you’ll be glad to know that I’m not going to be their manager anymore.”
“Then who---“
“I’m handing this job over to you if you’ll accept.”
“Of course I will,” Rage answered quickly,” but what about Ryuichi? I can’t manage both Bad Luck and Sakuma.’
“I’ll take over for you; I managed him better than anything else after all.”
“Okay; I’ll be there tomorrow.”
“That’s perfect because they have an appointment with Star 102.1 FM in the morning.”
“Okay; see ya later.”
After hanging up the phone, K went back to the room and escorted everyone, but Eiri, and Andrew out of the room. He thought it’d be best if he just took the others home because if they stayed any longer, they’d miss their appointment and the media would become suspicious and take it upon themselves to investigate this matter. If they discovered anything, chaos (to say the very least) would ensue. Fans like the ones rock stars have are usually the craziest; and who knows what could happen if they found out that someone put Shindou in the hospital and that he was pregnant.
When the others had left for the night, Andrew posed the question again.
“Eiri what would you like for me to do?”
“Well,” Eiri started,” I can’t allow you to terminate the pregnancy or that baka will be all over me; even if it was for the good of the child; although, if he keeps it, the child will cause complications. What other options do I have?”
“The only other thing you could do is move the child to another person’s, preferably a woman’s, body.”
“How would that work?”
“I would remove the child from Shindou’s body and then reinsert it into another person. That person would suffer from the normal signs of pregnancy and carry the child for the remaining trimesters and they would give birth to the baby.”
“In that case, I’ll take that option.”
“Okay, but do you know of anyone who’d be willing to do it?”
“My sister Mika; however,” Eiri stopped to think for a minute, “It would be difficult to hide that from my rather invasive brother-in-law.”
“He’s bound to find out sometime.”
“True.”
“Are you sure that you can’t think of anyone else who’d be willing to do this for you?”
“Maybe, but I’d rather not ask her or him or whatever he is.”
“Why not?”
“He/she reminds me of an unpleasant time in my life that I’d rather not relive.”
“I understand, but if you want to keep this concealed from Tohma, you’ve no choice.”
“You’re right; I’ll call Mika tomorrow and have her inform Tohma of the real situation. Eiri sighed deeply before continuing, “He’ll probably nag me all day because he was left out of the loop; or make a big deal about him being close to me and that I should have told him Eiri wished that he could light up a cigarette so that he could release some tension before he revealed this revealed this to Tohma. “Right now, I have to go and take care of some other business at home.”
“What time do you think you’ll be here tomorrow?”
“6 o’clock; why?”
“I wanted to make sure I was here to ensure that the surgery goes as planned. I don’t trust these rookies; they could mess something up.”
Andrew started to leave, but as he was walking out of the room, he remembered what his patient had said earlier and wanted to inform him before he left for the night. With this in mind, he turned to Eiri and gave him something else to think about.
“Eiri, before I forget, Shindou mumbled something earlier that may lead us to the shady character that did this heinous act.”
Intrigued, Eiri tore his eyes away from the pop star and focused on the doctor’s words. He was dying to discover who is responsible for Shindou’s injuries; and where they lived so that he could inflict at least twice the amount of pain that the vocalist suffered.
Though Eiri said nothing, the good doc could tell that Eiri was listening, and therefore continued.
“The last thing he said before he passed out was ‘Aizawa, you bastard.’ I’m not sure if that means anything to you, but,” Andrew stopped speaking when he felt Eiri’s heated gaze upon him. He looked at Eiri and he saw the eyes of a murder staring back at him. He was now glad that he hadn’t withheld that piece of information from the novelist.
“Eiri, are you alright?”
“I can’t that I am, or when I will be; but mark my words, that bastard will pay for this. They say revenge leaves you with nothing but more bad feelings. However, that won’t be the case this time around. I’ll annihilate him and enjoy every moment of it. I might even record it for future generations. (A/N: I know it’s a little psychotic of him to say that, but I was feeling like a psycho at the moment),” Eiri replied in an eerily calm tone.
“I take it that you have had more that one encounter with this Aizawa person and from what I gathered from your speech, it’s obvious that you both have something against him---“
“Look,” Eiri interrupted, obviously bothered by Andrew’s prying, “this is a subject that I’d rather not discuss; so please drop it.”
“As you wish,” Andrew remarked, attempting not to anger Eiri any further. “I’ll be taking my leave now; if you require anything push the buzzer on the side of Shuichi’s bed and a nurse will be here to assist you. Normally visiting hours would be over at 9 pm, but I’m making an exception this time. I’ll see you tomorrow at 6 pm; good night.”
Eiri merely waved his goodbye due to the fact that he could not trust his voice right now. He was like a ticking time bomb just waiting to blow up (like the ones from Super Mario) and he didn’t want to explode on the wrong person. After all, Andrew was only trying to help in any way possible.
He had another motive for making this exception to the rules for Eiri. Andrew gave him extra time so that his favorite patients could have some quality time without any disruptions. Eiri gazed upon Shuichi’s swollen face and slowly he shut he eyes in order to hold back the waterfall of tears threatening to fall; despite his best efforts the tears slid down his face and landed on the pop star’s face. He must have felt it because slowly his eyes opened and he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Eiri was holding his head down and looking towards him; though his eyes were closed, it was easy to see that he was crying. Shindou wanted to reach up and hug him. The very image of the novelist shedding tears scared him. Since he couldn’t speak or move; Shindou merely sighed and looked down at the novelist. Eiri lifted his head only to find sympathetic violet eyes staring at him.
Sorry, but I have to cut it off right here because I lost the other version of this particular chapter. Another thing, the other version is longer, but still incomplete, however, it contained a lot of details that I don’t remember off the top of my head because I simply typed it. I didn’t have a back up on a sheet of paper. Whatever my co-writers came up wit will be featured in the next installment of this chapter. Right now, I’m having a little computer trouble, so I just wanted to post at least this much up. I will repost this chapter with the original changes that I planned when I have this computer repaired, so bye-bye for now.
Before I leave, whose Kumagoro is this? This evil little thing shot me in the leg and stole my food until I promised to upload this. Great, now I’m a starving writer, or maybe not since I received some flames for my barbequed chicken.
(1)-This site actually exists; though it’s all in Japanese. I didn’t know that; it was just something I made up on the spot.
