Chapter Ten - "Questions"
Well, that did not go as well as I'd planned. Jade is simply a lot more complex then I thought, as is her dark side, her beautiful lust for darkness. She herself has not completely realized it yet, but it's there, a beautiful, sexy, evil core. She will be mine eventually, if not simply to harm the digi-twerp, but to create a nice distraction for myself in the least...

Jade yawned faintly, as she reached for her ringing cell phone. She'd stayed up all night writing her report for a last minute emergency edition of her boss' newss paper, the Nikkei Shimbun. She'd phoned her boss saying she'd gotten a verbal interview with Ken Ichijouji and it held very interesting details about the man, and she'd been instructed to get an emergency article up before 4 am, or they'd have to push it for tomorrow. She was up to the challenge, and sacrificed her night.
"Hello?" she croaked, groggily.
"GOOD MORNING!" piped Davis, whom was never before a morning person. "Wanna go for breakfast?"
"Mmmh. Yeah. Come get me." Jade replied, then hung up. "Thirty minutes of sleep...God help me..."

ICHIJOUJI: WOMANIZING BIGOT! Read the front page of the Nikkei Shimbun. The writer? Jade, of course. Ken's eyes thinned as he read the words. "Local celebrity Ken Ichijouji is a womanizing bigot! He himself agrees to the claim, stating a calm 'Only the pretty ones.' when asked if he compliments women often. In fact, Ichijouji was quoted to have referenced unattractive women to cats, stating, 'They shouldn't really bother [trying to look pretty]. It's sort of like a cat trying to bark like a dog. People who enjoy dogs don't like cats, and it's even more strange to see a cat trying to be what it's not.' He even went so far as to call unattractive women the lovechild of star 'Cher' and a sick donkey, or the aftermath of a rusty lawn mower being pushed by a drunk monkey. Maybe the boy genius has much more of a dark streak then we'd all like to admit. Unattractive women take cover; Ken Ichijouji is around." Ken couldn't help but smirk. He had to hand it to her; she was very clever with her means of gaining the information, even if she'd written everything he'd written out of context. Once the smoke of this whole thing blew over in a few days, perhaps he'd take her to dinner and pretend he hadn't seen the paper, and truly show her what a man was like. Nothing like that lame little digi-twerp.

"Hi Jade!" exclaimed Davis as she met him in the parking lot. He'd phoned her to come down, since he was almost there.
"Hi." she tiredly replied, but Davis hardly noticed. He was too happy to see her.
"Come on, let's go!" he beamed, taking her hand and leading her off.
"Where're we goin'?" she asked breathily, almost yawning.
"Izzy's."
"Izzy's? Why? He can't cook."
"No, but I can! You'll see. He's not far from here actually." Jade gave a faint mmmph of compliance, not really caring at this point. Maybe she'd slip off to the bathroom and fall asleep in Izzy's bath tub. She could almost fall sleep walking, at this point. But, she never got the chance. It seemed that Izzy was literally just down the street by a few blocks. That was convenient. Davis led her to the correct door, and smiled.
"You look sleepy. Well, you won't be for long." he spoke, then hit the doorbell. Shortly after, Izzy pulled open the door. He looked just as tired as she was.
"Davis, I understand your keen heart, but why does it have to be this early?"
"Because we have all day this way! Come on Izzy, let us in!" Izzy shuffled out of the way, and Jade was tugged inside by the oddly hyper Davis. He led her to the living room, and sat her down. She merely leaned on him as Izzy took a seat across from them.
"She looks like she wants to sleep too. Are you sure about this now, Davis? I mean, it's pretty big."
"Yeah. Joe already blew it, so we may as well." Jade's mind perked up a bit. Could it be?
"I guess there's no helping it then. You sure she can keep it silent?"
"Yeah, Izzy. Just because she's a reporter, doesn't mean she doesn't understand the value of a secret."
"Alright. Jade, you awake?" Izzy asked. Jade nodded as she lifted her head, and looked over at the young nerd.
"Yeah. What's going on?"
"Well, apparently, Joe's let you in, however accidentally, on our big secret. Now, Davis has asked me to fully explain it to you." Jade instantly woke up, and stared intently at Izzy. "What did you hear, exactly?"
"Something about a digital world , and something called Veemon. Amongst other things I can't quite remember."
"Okay. Well, Veemon is the name of a species of animal in the digital world called digimon. It's got many, and they all end in the suffix m-o-n. Agumon, Gekkomon, Patamon, just to name a few. There's hundreds. They all live in and protect the digital world. Okay?"
"Okayyyy..."
"Now they all have the ability to digivolve. Grow, or change, really. They can digivolve both forwards and backwards based on energy, and the ease of that is based on their size. There's 3 main types of digimon; Data, Virus, and Vaccine. For the most part, Virus digimon are evil, Vaccine are pure, and Data are either. Now, it's not always like that; a good example of that is SkullGreymon, a virus digimon that digivolves from a vaccine type. It's pure evil, but it still has it's vaccine heart. Are you following me?"
"So far, I think..."
"Okay. So, usually though, the virus are the bad guys. Myotismon, Impmon, Devimon, IceDevimon. The Vaccines are the good guys, and that makes up most of the spectrum of digimon. Some of them can be bad guys, like Gatomon used to be, like Leomon used to be, and like alot of vaccines can be. Humans, every now and again, are chosen to go to the digital world and help heal it of a particular uprising of evil. These are called the Digidestined, and they all have their respective digimon parnters. Sometimes, those who aren't digidestined are allowed to tame digimon, but it's not entirely all that common, like in the case of when Myotismon got into the real world, our realm. A few extra humans were given digimon becuase they'd seen them."
"So, if you see digimon, you get one?"
"Not necessarily, actually. There've been times where that isn't true. It's all controlled by the deities, or basically the digimon gods and their sages. Now, the original digidestined were a group that got locked in the digital world. Myself, Joe, Matt, Tai, Mimi, Sora, TK, and Kari are the original digidestined. Now there's a new group to replace us, and that's TK, Kari, Davis, Yolei, and Cody. We're all fighting an evil known right now as the Digimon Emperor, or the Kaiser. He's a human, and he possesses a digivice, but we're not sure how he got it. He's been causing alot of hell in the digital world."
"I see. Does he hurt digimon?"
"Yes. He does. He even hurts humans. Cody went to the digital world yesterday, and he hasn't been back yet." Davis's face fell; he hadn't heard THAT. "TK and Kari went, and I believe Yolei got the message, but she's tied up babysitting. Your loverboy here hasn't gone because he's left his messager somewhere."
"So, does Davis need to go?"
"Yes. But, he wants you to see the digital world as well. I'll take you in a while, after I show you some images of the digimon on my computer." Davis silently slipped off the couch, and sulked his way to Izzy's room. He'd caught the hint that he needed to leave and help the others. Izzy followed, and Jade was shortly after.
"Now, when Davis leaves, he'll be leaving through the computer using his digivice, kinda like the remote control for the digimon, but it doesn't do more than digivolve them."
"Is that the only way to the digital world?"
"Theoretically, no. All of the digidestined were, in a manner of speaking, sucked into the digital world. When my group was there, we were all sucked in and stuck on an island for a very long time. We weren't aware we could come and go as we pleased."
"So, could I get there by standing there?" she asked, just as the typical bright flash came in from Izzy's room.
"Not unless you're digidestined, I don't think. I honestly don't know..." he replied, leading her into his room. He sat afront his computer, and opened the CD-ROM game that he'd develloped for such an instance. "Okay. Pick a type."
"Uhm, I'm curious about the Virus types, they sound complex."
"Okay," he replied, opening the folder. A large list of names opened. "Pick an name." Jade leaned over behind him, reading the names.
"That one sounds ugly. VenomMyotismon?" Izzy opened the image he'd drawn, and up popped the evil tyrant he'd known altogether too well. Jade messed up her nose.
"He is ugly. Go back, maybe that one, that Devimon one. He sounds cool." Izzy obeyed, and did so. Jade's eye raised. He indeed did look cool, but there was still something about him that she didn't like.
"Are there any good virus types that you can think of besides that Skull-mon-thing?"
"Skullgreymon. And no, not at the moment." he started scrolling through the list. "Digimon are born from eggs, and they have the same stages. Fresh, In-Training, Rookie, Champion, Ultimate, and Mega. The farther they are, the more energy they use, and the more powerful they are. They start gaining attacks that actually do something at the Rookie stage, usually."
"Did you actually draw all those digimon?"
"Yes. I thought that I'd need a reference catalog at some point. They didn't take long, I invented a D-reader that can take and adjust information and make it realistic. For instance, if I make a pencil sketch, write the specs, then scan it, the computer generates the images you see. It all only took me about 6 hours to fully compilate-" Izzy was cut off by the ringing of his phone. "Here, browse in here. That's likely my employer. I'll be a while." Jade eagerly took the computer, and began scanning the list. However, none of the names jumped out to her. She started clicking random names, and each image she was confronted with didn't really strike her as one of those good virus types that Izzy had mentioned. There had to be an exception to the rule, there always was. They sounded like the most powerful, but evil to the core. Maybe she could meet one of those good virus types. Wizardmon looked possible, but, it was creepy looking. Jade frowned, and grabbed a nearby sheet of paper. If there ever was a good-hearted virus type, it's egg would look like...like a cave. An ice cave. Ice caves and igloos were warm, but made of pure ice, kind of like an oxymoron. Like a good hearted virus type. She sketched out the egg, and tilted her head. Yeah, that was what it'd look like. But, what would the newly hatched Fresh stage look like? It'd be male, for sure. Women always had some vein of evil in them, she thought, with a faint smile on her face. Before she payed any attention to the time, she'd had a fully drawn out image of a digimon and its stages. She bit her lip; Izzy was still on the phone. Should she scan it in that D-reader thing? Would that mess up his catalogue thing? She'd already scribbled down the specs and made up a few attack things. What was the harm? She quickly shoved the page edge through the scanner, and prayed that Izzy didn't see the faint glow that the machine made. Within seconds, the screen flashed faintly, and a message popped up that read "Unidentified Digimon Added - Stages linked. Hit enter to synthesize." Jade perked a brow. Synthesize? Curious, she tapped enter. But, nothing happened, besides the message vanishing. Jade shrugged, and placed her hand on the mouse to look for the image of the digimon she'd drawn. Just as suddenly as the D-reader's glow, the mouse began to shine. This caught Izzy's attention, and he hastily ended his conversation.
"What did you do!?" he exclaimed, sliding into the room. Jade leapt back, but the mouse had vanished. In it's place, on the table in front of them, was a lone, old, white digivice.
"I didn't do it!" she gasped, as Izzy snatched it up.
"A digivice? What did you do!"
"I was playing with your D-reader thing and I loaded this stupid thing I drew and it wanted me to synthesize it, and then I went to see what happened, but that happened and I didn't mean to kill your mouse!" she rushed, thinking she was going to be in a lot of trouble; nerds were very obsessive-compulsive about their electronics.
"Do you have any clue what this means?!" he shouted, staring at the item.
"I'll buy you a new mouse!"
"That's not what I mean! You triggered a digivice - it means you've created a digimon. But this isn't the one's I've seen it means you're supposed to be one of the originals!"
"What are you talking about?"
"You're a digidestined, Jade! You triggered a digivice!" Jade stood there, blinking stupidly. He couldn't be SERIOUS, could he? Maybe he was just screwing with her because she turned his mouse into that thing. "Jade, look. Here's mine." he spoke, handing out an identical digivice. She was now starting to feel very very faint. He WAS serious. She reached out to touch it, but hesitated.
"Doesn't that mean I'm your generation?..."
"Yeah. It means you were supposed to be with us, but I guess you never got the chance or something. Take it, it's yours." Jade reached out, and bit her lip. She wasn't a new digidestined, but, she was still a digidestined. Overnight, she'd discovered the secret she was supposed to be a part of, but far too late. How ironic was that? She finally grabbed the little item, and stared at it.
"What I find curious is why you don't have a tag and crest."
"A what?" she asked, flicking her eyes up.
"A tag and crest. It helps digivolve your digimon. Mine's the crest of Knowledge. It's hanging by my bed, see? We had it as necklaces in the digital world." Jade glanced over to the item hanging on the wall, and subconsciously placed her hand on her locket, the one Joe had given her. Izzy's eyes seemed to gravitate to the locket as she pulled it from her shirt.
"Joe bought this for me about a month ago..." she muttered, turning her attention from the crest to her chain. Then she spotted what Izzy was staring at - her locket was no longer her locket - somehow, a replication of Izzy's tag-thing had appeared. Jade bit her lip, almost ready to cry - not because of the tag, but because her locket was gone. But, she'd never let anyone else see her upset. Izzy grabbed the tag, and looked into the little window it had.
"Crest of Curiosity...Fairly fitting for a journalist." he commented, with a smile. "Shall we go to the digital world?" Jade nodded, fighting away the sadness of her lost locket. She pocketed her digivice, and tucked her tag away. "You'll need the digivice, Jade." Izzy told her, palming his own.
"Oh..." she replied, and pulled it back out. It felt oddly warm, but she passed it off. Probably nothing.
"Okay. Hold it up, like this..."

AN: I KNOW I know, it's cheap to steal the damn season three explanation for creating a digimon...But it makes the most sense!!! Lol. I'll have an image of the digimon up on a link soon, as well as an image of the crest, and of Jade herself. I'm not a wonderful artist, but I'll try. Lol.
AN: I also know that it seems like I've dropped the whole 'rescue Cody' plotline. I haven't. There's a reason I haven't gone back to it, yet. I will in the next chapter, and go through what happened with TK and Kari.
AN: I know that the digidestined know who Ken is in the show. For my book to work, this is taking place before the discover the scar, and as if it's been a while. >.< I hate it when I do research...
AN: We're also going to ignore the fact that the digidestined are like, 13-14. We're going to pretend they're in their late teens like they look...When research throws me a major wrench when it's been like 4 years since I watched the show last, then, well, I pretend it's a dodge ball. I realize all these changes nearly make this an AU, and I HATE AU's! Oh well...

Oh well...
