Toris jumped when he heard his cellphone ringing. He panicked, dropping the duster he was holding. It made clinking noise when it hit the marble flooring. The high-pitched ring of Toris’ phone sounded much louder in the Braginski mansion. He desperately fumbled to pick it up. He wasn’t quite sure his boss’ rules on taking phone calls on the job, but he knew he didn’t want to be on his bad side. As impossible as it seemed, the father was scarier than the son.
Toris finally managed to hit that little green button and he held the phone to his cheek, “Yes..? Who is it?” he was embarrassed to ask. He hadn’t looked at his caller I.D. in his panic.
“Um...”The voice was very small, “I’m calling from work. It’s me, Raivis. I had just... Heard something weird... And scary. And I didn’t want to bother Eduard, but I needed to talk to somebody about it...”
Toris was very used to this. Ever since he was young Eduard and Raivis always came running to him. It made him feel proud that they felt they could depend on him so much. “Alright. I’m at work, but I suppose I can clean and listen at the same time.”
Toris picked up the outdated feather duster and carefully went to work on the beautiful vases that were on display. Raivis stayed quiet for a while. That didn’t surprise Toris. After Raivis’ first outburst, he normally tried to pull himself together. Something that Eduard had helped him with.
“Well... I was talking with some people at work. They said that Ivan came in here this afternoon. Well... A huge scary Russian guy. And you know that he skipped out on class. So, it had to be him right?” Raivis paused. He sounded terrified. With good reason. He already had to endure the torment at school. Now possibly at work.
“I admit that does sound like him,” Toris looked around to make sure that Ivan wasn’t somewhere around here, “But what on earth would he be doing in a bookstore? Why would he skip out on class to go to a bookstore? It doesn’t make much sense...”
“Well... I know that Matthew skipped out on class too. He just wasn’t in class. I was thinking that maybe Ivan followed Matthew there. I asked my co-worker and she said that she thinks there might’ve been another customer at the time,” his voice was quiet, but heavy with worry. He could almost see the look on Raivis’ face. He was sure that he was making a similar face.
Toris looked around again and then whispered desperately into the phone, “Ivan...? Stalking Matthew? What are we going to do?”
Raivis paused, but Toris knew he was still there because he could hear him breathing. The Russian always sent them all into a panic. “I don’t know... Maybe... Maybe we should tell Alfred?”
Toris gave a small huff, “That’s not going to do anything. You know he’s friends with Ivan. He’d probably just say that he was glad to have such a good friend. You know ‘Protecting my little bro like that’ or something. You know how Alfred is...”
“We can’t just do nothing, can we?” Raivis’ voice was small and pathetic.
Toris didn’t really know what to do. And he hated that he was doing this in the Braginski home. But this wasn’t really something that he could put off...
“I don’t know... Who would help...?” Toris gasped and a small smile crept onto his face, “We should tell Gilbert! He’ll help Matthew. He used to get in between Ivan and Yao all the time. Yeah, just to annoy Ivan, but...”
Raivis breathed a sigh of relief, “That’s a great idea. I was really freaking out. I mean... Yao had such a hard time when Ivan was bothering him. And Matthew doesn’t know any martial arts. And... You know. At least Kiku had his back... But Alfred’s so dense he wouldn’t even realize that his little brother was in danger. Which is kind of ironic considering he calls himself a hero all the time...”
Toris gave a small laugh. Raivis really doesn’t know when to stop. He always oversteps the boundaries of common courtesy during conversation. It was still kind of cute.
“I have to let you go. We’ll talk to Gilbert about it tomorrow. I hope Matthew isn’t too upset...” Toris sighed lightly.
“Oh! Okay. I have to get back to work too. I’m working in the backroom tonight,” Raivis replied with a smile in his voice. He really did love that little bookstore.
Toris pressed that little end button. He turned around to clean the next room. He jumped and dropped his phone from shock when he noticed that someone had been standing there. How long had they been there? How much had they heard?
None of this even mattered to Toris right now, “Wow. You’re like, totally a bigger klutz then me,” the small blonde bent down and picked up the Toris’ phone, “Wow. This is like, totally plain. Aren’t you like, ashamed to be using this thing?”
Toris just stood there sputtering. Feliks just kind of raised an eyebrow, and then trust the phone back at the brunette, “Whatever. Totally lost interest now.”
He didn’t know what to do. He could only watch as Feliks walked down the marble halls, his heels clicked loudly as shameless as the person wearing them. He hummed a cute little tune as he no doubt, went back to Natalia’s room.
Toris felt like his heart might just burst. What was it about Feliks that did that to him? Why did he even love Feliks so much? He was confident, untamed, and just beautiful. He was untouchable. He could only marvel at the enigma that was Feliks.
Toris sighed and tried to get back to work. Some days... Life was just too much.
Matthew went through the same routine every school day. He picked out an outfit. Haphazardly, because he knew it didn’t matter. No one would notice. As long as it matched, it didn’t matter to him. And as long as it wasn’t something that used to be Alfred’s.
He poured himself a glass of orange juice and a bowl of cereal. He never had time to make anything, and his mother was always out the door when they were waking up. Then he grabbed his dishes (And Alfred’s) and put them in the sink.
He grabbed his hoodie and his backpack. He grabbed his bike in the garage and started his morning ride to school. Alfred almost always got a car ride to school from one of the girls, or one of his football buddies. Despite this, Matthew always got to school first.
When he got to school he hooked his bike to the bike rack. It was all very boring. This properly explained Matthew’s life. He noticed that Toris was waiting by the front door.
Toris saw him and starting jogging up, “Matthew! I needed to talk to you!” when he finally reached Matthew he started talking in a hushed tone, “Raivis told me that his co-workers saw Ivan following you. He was worried so he called me. I thought of the perfect solution.”
Matthew kind of gave a small nervous laugh, “He wasn’t really following me. I knew he was there. He helped me skip out on class. Kind of. It wasn’t all that bad.”
“Oh...? Then you’re not in trouble?” Toris actually looked genuinely shocked. He then looked down, embarrassed.
“No. It’s fine,” Matthew laughed a little, “Just out of curiosity... What was your solution?”
Toris’ mouth dropped a little. A classic ‘Oops’ face. He looked around desperately. “Oh! I should call Raivis then,” he pulled out his phone and hit one of the speed-dial buttons.
“You don’t need to worry your pretty little self,” the voice came from behind them, “The awesome will make sure that no harm to you.”
Matthew just kind of stared at the elder Beilschmidt brother. He was flanked by Antonio and Francis as always. He had his trademark arrogant smirk on his face.
How did his boring life become hectic so quickly? And more importantly, what did he do to deserve this?
A/N: OMG. Another chapter. I just couldn’t leave Gilbert out. Toris and Raivis were just trying to help Matthew. (Wasn’t much Matthew in this chapter, huh…) Don’t worry. Gilbert isn’t gonna be a mega-jerk. (As I hear is normally a problem in RusCan fics) Though he is going to be his normally arrogant self. Oh, Gilbo. We wouldn’t have you any other way. <3
I don’t know why. LietPol just keeps popping up. The side pairing is getting kind of noisy here...
