Sweet as Sugar
Chapter Ten
The moment the doors opened in front of you, you realized that you wanted to be anywhere else. Everything in that room was dazzling. It was all so well done that it was amazing that a high school club had been able to pull it off. You couldn’t help but wonder how long it took to do it as well. They must have been planning this for a while. You also vaguely noted that this would have made an excellent White Day event. Unfortunately for the Host club that particular holiday had already passed a while ago so they couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity.
You froze when the music started playing. It was soft but it was unmistakably a wedding march. For a moment before you started walking you closed your eyes and took a deep breath. You had to do this to prove to Honey that you couldn’t play his game anymore. You had tried to tell him politely but he didn’t really let you. Now that you were in a silken wedding gown you had to show him. You also needed to figure out if Kyoya Ootori was aware of the latest development as well. It was the most logical course of action considering the strange circumstances you found yourself in.
That idea still didn’t help it feel any less weird as you moved to the wedding March. Nor did it stop the painful clench when you saw that Honey smiled widely at you. Or the sinking feeling when you realized that you weren’t in the right order in your persession line to see him. Thankfully he didn’t call out your name or anything like that when you moved past his branch and stopped at Kyoya’s. That would have been a little too much to deal with.
You took the last few steps towards Kyoya with your eyes focused on staying straight. You resisted the urge to look to your left as you stood in front of the man that you might eventually have to merry. If you couldn’t find a way to weasel out of that engagement at least. If he was surprised, he hid it well. You didn’t even see his eyes widen from beneath his glasses when you moved to his position instead of Honey’s. And in return you said nothing to him as the person on the other side of the arch started reciting a modified wedding speech.
You noticed that it wasn’t exactly what you would have heard at a real wedding. It was also much shorter. If you had timed it right the man’s eloquent speech was only two minutes long. With a small smile at the end you expected to sit down with the other two girls at Kyoya’s area they sat in the crescent seats on either side of the aisle. No doubt they were revisioning their pseudo bridal moment as you stood before them.
There was a moment of surprise as the official looking man held out two thin, silver and gold bands on a small plush pillow. Kyoya slid the smaller of the two onto your finger. Purposefully on the right finger even if it was on the wrong hand. This was only a pretend wedding after all. You returned the favors with the matching band.
What you didn’t expect was the parting words of the speech. “You may kiss the bride.”
...wait. What?
Your surprise really must have shown through then. There was no way you could have hidden your surprise. You looked at Kyoya almost fearfully as he smiled politely. Though when he made no move to move in you calmed down almost instantly. He did, however, bring your hand to his lips and gently pressed his lips against your knuckles. The gesture suited him despite the different cultural origin.
Only then were you able to join the other girls. When the cycle started to repeat again, you found yourself staring at Kyoya. He had given no indication that he knew about the pending engagement. Maybe he was still in the dark. Or, more than likely, he just realized that this wasn’t the time to discuss such a topic. You did notice that after you sat down the ring on his finger was already gone. He must have already taken it off so the next girl could put it on him.
“Isn’t this wonderful?” One of the girls whispered to you. “Even with all of the other girls this whole thing still feels special.”
“It’s a true wonder that they were able to orchestra all of this,” you agreed.
“Exactly. It just shows how fine a planner Kyoya is. I would be willing to wager that he was the one who planned this all,” the third girl spoke.
You said nothing in return as the next girl made her way up the aisle. There was no way you could logically deny her assertion. The attention to detail on such a short notice did seem like it was Kyoya’s work. At the same time you gut said otherwise. You didn’t know why but with the way Honey had pulled you in at the start, it felt like he had a large hand in this somehow. Especially considering the way that this has only sprung up after you denied his claim of being married.
Nervously you turned to look at Honey. Only to wish you didn't. It was subtle with the way that he was standing but you could have sworn you saw him looking over at you too. With the symbolic brides back to back so they couldn’t see each other, it really was possible that he was looking at you. The glance was subtly shifted away from the bride before him, and half hidden by his stuffed rabbit, but you felt it more than you saw it. And something about how steady his gaze was...it was a little frightening.
Soon all of the marches had finished. There weren’t many after you anyways. It wasn’t like there were more than 30 girls at a time that visited the host club. Not every girl could make it to the club every day. There were always extracurricular classes or meetings after the normal academic day. Not to mention many girls had their own clubs to attend to at least a few times a week. And with all the girls divided up naturally between the different hosts there weren’t more than maybe six girls per host. Or host group as was the case with the twins as well as Honey and Mori.
“You look distracted,” Kyoya commented.
You looked at him as the prior unseen staff made themselves known just long enough to move the crescent chairs into a circle. You were surprised to find that the were on wheels. Though not as surprised as the fact that Kyoya had actually acknowledged the fact that you were distracted. You were just glad that the chair that you’d chosen at the start had been moved so that you didn’t have to see Honey. It had been awkward catching a fraction of his gaze when he should have been paying attention to the girl in front of him instead.
“I’m sorry, I was contemplating the logistics of this.”
His smile was polite as he sat back in his chair. The girl nearest him looked ready to laugh at the fact that you, out of all people, may have been questioning the logic behind the host clubs shadow king. Normally it was something you tried not to think about. Normally when you went to the host club you tried to forget that things like costs had to be weighed against the benefits. Normally you were with Honey when you visited the club. Today wasn’t a normal time for you.
“Oh?” He prompted.
“This may seem indelicate,” your prelude was apologetic. “But the cost of this event must have been enormous. Far more than the club will take in from the cover charges. How could you do something like this knowing that it would be a financial drain? You don’t seem the type to waste resources so I can’t believe that this was your idea.”
“You’re right of course. But I believe that it may be rude to you ladies if we discuss the costs. Though I would advise you to leave the dress and the ring with the attendants at the end of the day so you don’t have to absorb a larger portion of the cost yourself.”
Which means he would bill any girl who kept their dress or ring. More than likely at a portion based cost rather than the actual market value. The mark up was no doubt going to be staggering. You smiled and nodded even as you made a note to do just that. The dress was gorgeous though…
“But please. If you ladies would like to, feel free to keep the pieces. They can be momentos of our special day together,” he spoke with a smile.
From the way that two of them lit up you figured he had just sold it. The jury was still out on the others. In all honesty you were kind of entertaining the idea of keeping the clothes yourself. It really did make your breasts look fabulous. It might have been the work of the fashion corset underneath though. So you would probably need to keep that instead.
“And of course our professional photographers will have packages for all the images taken today available on our website.”
There were photographers?! You narrowly avoided looking around to see them. You figured that they must have just blended into the scenery that you hadn’t noticed them. Wow. He had gone to great lengths to think of that. Not to mention you could just imagine the mark up on the photography packages that would be sold.
As you contemplated how much he could possible charge each girl who decided to keep everything and get a bunch of pictures, you felt yourself being pulled backwards. You let out a sound of surprise as you gripped the chair. You were pulled away from Kyoya’s circle before you were twisted around so that you joined Honey’s and Mori’s combined circle.
Your heart hammered in your chest from the spontaneous moving. Not to mention you hadn’t asked to be moved. Nor did you have any idea that it was going to happen. In fact, you still had no idea what was going to happen. Though part of that was answered when you saw Honey move around the chair because in the next moment he was in your lap.
The kid was deceptively dense. Like wow. You were almost tempted to push him off your lap he weighed so much. And this was the same Honey that Mori carried around so often? No wonder the taller of the two was so athletic. You would be too if you had to carry someone like this around at random intervals.
“Silly Haruhi put you in the wrong group,” Honey said with an effervescent smile.
Somehow his smile creeped you out more than anything. There was something not quite right about it.
“I asked for Kyoya today Honey.”
That was the softest way that you could imagine correcting him. It was obvious that Haruhi hadn’t made a mistake. You had gone through with the fake ceremony and had even started to converse with Kyoya and his group. If there had been any mistake you probably wouldn’t have partaken in the later at least.
“You don’t like me anymore, Tori?” Honey asked with wide eyes, putting you on the spot.
You could hear the gasps and whispers of “she’s so mean!” from the others who had joined this particular circle today. Honey wiggled in your lap, bunching up the material of your dress in strange ways. You couldn’t even sooth the fabric back down unless you wanted to move the small senior. No doubt you’d be ostracized at school even more if you did that. And in a school like this, being ostracized could create a negative reputation for your family’s company. Your family business was all about hospitality and wellness after all.
“We like you Honey!” A girl near by jumped into the conversation.
You were actually quite glad she did actually. You really didn’t want to answer that question. It had been a complete trap. He must have known that you would hurt your reputation if you said no just like he knew that if you said yes it was like submitting to his actions. Or maybe he didn’t know the situation he had put you in with that question. This was Honey after all. He was usually too sweet for this highly competitive world.
“I like you too!” He said with a smile as he turned to sit down on your lap properly, his blonde hair against you exposed chest. “You know what else I like?”
“Cake,” you whispered without really thinking about it. Belatedly you realized that had been into his ear. You felt him shiver though you knew that it wouldn’t have been noticeable to the other girls.
“Wedding cake?” One girl asked timidly. She must have been new. Though she had undoubtedly heard about Honey’s sweet tooth from whomever had initiated her.
“How did you know?” Honey asked with such innocence and surprise that if you didn’t know any better you would say was real.
The bashful girl twisted her hands on her lap as she blushed. Not that you could really see her completely. Honey did a good job of blocking out everything you went to look at.
“Takahashi! Could you ask them to bring the cake now?” Honey asked excitedly.
Without saying a word, Mori nodded and stood up. You tried to see where he was going but Honey started to move again. This time he had his legs spread out over yours and his hands were on your knees. From how much he had moved around before and how your dress had bunched up, it was on your naked knees now. And because of the way he was sitting with his legs spread wide open you felt another kind of weight that you definitely weren’t used to. You blushed so heavily at that fact that it felt like you had a fever. But you also didn’t want to draw attention to your position anymore than your blush already did. That one kiss aside...this was still Honey after all. Sweet, innocent Honey who was oddly possessive. You doubted he even thought about things like that.
“Honey, could you please move?” You asked in the quietest, steadiest voice you could manage.
He tilted his head back and blinked up at you. “Am I hurting you?”
“No…” the way he was sitting was surprisingly comfortable outside of some very embarrassing issues.
“Good!” He bounced in happiness on your lap which only caused your eyes to widen more. He definitely has no idea how awkward it was for you to feel...well all of him.
“You could sit on my lap Honey,” one of the bolder girls offered.
You wished that he would take her up on her offer. At least then she could be the one dealing with his awkwardly innocent erotic position. You felt dirty for even noticing him to begin with.
Honey tilted his head to the side as he put a finger to his mouth. “But then how would you feed me our wedding cake?”
Damn it. Based on the girls’ stuttering you realized that Honey had offered them a better alternative. And cue the squeals. Normally you might have found this cute if it wasn’t for the fact that you were so embarrassed. It wasn’t like you could say anything either. Especially as he started to shift around on your lap in what you assumed was excitement. He scooted back and forth a few times as he bounded in your lap. His eyes were locked on Something and you did hear Something coming. You assumed Mori was back with a tray of sweets. More than likely that wedding cake that Honey kept mentioning.
You knew he was excited. Sweets always made him happy. Which was why you blamed your own dirty, twisted mind as to what it seemed like he was doing. It seriously felt like he was rubbing himself against your leg. And he was doing that in full display of the other girls! Which was definitely another reason you knew he must not realize what he was doing. He had to just be really excited for the cake.
“Mitsukuni,” Mori called out in a serious tone.
Honey stopped moving, stopped doing his happy seated cake dance, when he heard Mori’s voice. You felt his hands grip your knees with a good amount of tension.
“Come put your napkin on. We don’t want your clothes messy.”
Honey made a rather cute sound. You half expected for him to hop off you lap. But he didn’t.
“I forgot how,” his voice really did remind you of a child. You smiled despite yourself. “Would you do it for me Takahashi?”
Mori nodded and picked up the oversized fabric handkerchief. He bent down onto one knee and reached around Honey’s neck. Amongst the cooing from the girls around witnessing the scene you heard something that really surprised you.
Honey’s tone was serious and dark as he whispered to Mori: “Remember the last time you interrupted Tori and me?”
