Traveling to Mt Taikyoku was an absolute nightmare. The evil forces that were growing within Konan called the monsters out of hiding to the point that it took an extra week to make it after getting attacked by not only monsters but by village folk who were controlled by demons. Not only that, but the weather had gotten worse. Rain and heavy hail had slowed the travelers down because of the frequent stops for shelter at local inns. Kaki always got her own room and it was conveniently always next to Tasuki’s, although he never entered it. The foot hills to Mt. Taikyoku proved to be treacherous. Monsters had gathered and lay in wait for the key of Suzaku and her protectors. Two more of Tasuki’s guys had been killed due to the ordeal. Finally they reached the top of the mountain. Nyan- Nyan pulled the weary travelers into to the Temple and made them pay their respects to the huge statue which resided in the center. Kaki’s breath caught in her throat as she looked at the magnificent gold structure. She sat before it and prayed for the strength to live up to her job.
“Kaki,” a male voice spoke softly. She looked around for its owner and came up with nothing.
“Kaki,” The voice spoke again, “Child. You know you are strong enough. I’ve been waiting for you.” Arms wrapped around her shoulders and she felt warmth encompass her. “Kaki, you are a warrior. And you are forever my-”
“Kaki, hey what’s the matter?” Tasuki put his hand on her shoulder looking worried.
“Nothing,” She smiled at him. “It was nothing.” He had been so protective of her since that night. They hadn’t done anything since then, but she knew he still cared. Once he’d pulled her a side and asked if she would stay with him when they finished summoning Suzaku. Her heartbeat in her throat as she smiled and said that she’s think about it.
Taiitsukun smirked at the girl as she called Nyan- Nyan to attend to Kaki. Nyan-Nyan took the woman by the hand and directed her to a room while babbling about “how pretty Nyan-Nyan was going to make The Key.”
Taiitsukun turned to the fire- wielder, “What have you done?” She asked angrily.
“Why are you shouting at me?” he asked, his arms going very stiff and still next to his body. He would not be afraid of her, he would not be afraid of her.
“The key is supposed to be a virgin, you idiot!” Taiitsukun shouted as Tasuki’s blood ran cold. Of course he would screw this one up.
“Why didn’t you say anything before?” The Fire Wielder hollered.“I didn’t even know what was going on until you two where finished.”
“I- I’m sorry.” He suddenly felt like a loser. “I- we got carried away.” He looked up at Taiitsukun, willing her to understand. “She looked so beautiful and… we… it…” he looked down because of the blush that spread across his face. The leader of the Mount Reikaku Bandits does not blush… much. Tasuki looked up suddenly “I don’t regret what happened.” He said defiantly, “It was simply the physical act of the feelings I have for her and nothing is going to change that. We will still be able to summon Suzaku, it’s just gong to be a little trickier.” With that he turned on his heels and strode off to find Kaki.
She was lying on the bed provided for her, eyes closed. Tasuki tried to get her attention but it soon became clear that she was sleeping. The woman had just left, and now she was sleeping like she’d been there for hours.
“Kaki… hey, I’m sorry.” He ran his hand over her head, fingers sliding through her hair.
She sighed and stretched. “For what?” Kaki yawned. Tasuki was suddenly tongue- tied. Dammit.
“It’s about the ceremony. Ya see when we… on the river bank… Taiitsukun says we might not be able to call Suzaku.”
“But we have to!” Kaki sat up suddenly.
“I know… I know. But I’m sorry because it’s my fault.” Tasuki scratched the side of his head.
“It’s not your fault.” Kaki smiled at him. “You didn’t force me into anything. I laid with you because I wanted to.”
“Kaki…” Tasuki tried to thing of what to say when Kaki’s stomach rumbled. She looked a little sheepish as Tasuki pulled her to her feet (which required picking her up off the bed) and dragged her into the room the he’d just exited where there was now a table full of food. Kaki’s eyes went wide as she rushed to the table and sat down only to begin loading up her plate. Tasuki sat across from her and started towards the trays, he was pretty hungry too.
Chichiri watched the two of them fill their plates and their stomachs before turning to Taiitsukun for privet counsel. Their situation would only be solved with everyone working together. Maybe she would have some ideas about what to do. One could hope at least.
