“I don’t know you.” Haru said a confused look running across his face.
“Yes you do.” Kyo answered back and reached out a hand to touch his shoulder. “I just wanted you to know though .” he said before turning his head down.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” he asked and waited for the answer that Kyo was going to tell him.
“I couldn’t.” He said softly. “I couldn’t find it in me, and I was afraid if I had you would turn me away.” Kyo muttered. “My life was not.” he paused and sighed before his shoulders dropped down. “not good.” He finished.
Haru sat there quietly for a moment. “Why don’t I remember you then?” He asked and was quiet again.
“I can’t tell you.” Kyo said shaking his head.
“Why not?”
“You need to find out on your own.” He said very softly.
“Why.” Haru was at a sudden loss for words.
“I’m not allowed to tell you.” Kyo said very softly.
“Why?”
Kyo balled his hands into fists in the sheets and his chin touched his chest and his shoulders started to shakes as the emotions started to over well him. “Kyo I don’t understand. You say you love me but you aren’t telling me anything.”
Kyo’s hands tightened in the sheets before the yell worked it’s way into his throat like a lump of stones before he cried. “I HURT YOU!”
Haru jerked back in shock before looking at the shaking boy in front of him. “I hurt you and I can’t take it back.” He said in a choked voice.
Haru watched as two tears splashed against the caramel colored skin on the back of the clenched hands. He was surprised by the sight some how. He reached out and cupped Kyo’s face pulling it up. He looked into the non seeing eyes and brushed the tears away. “Why did you hurt me?”
Kyo pulled away and turned his head down again. “Cause I’m me. People always pushed me away and hurt me first and this time I jumped first.” He said calmly.
“And you hurt me by doing that?” Haru asked.
Kyo nodded not seeing a graceful smile cross Haru’s lips. “That proves nothing other then your human.” He said sweetly and leaned forward placing his lips against Kyo’s tenderly.
Kyo gasped and couldn’t help but lean into the kiss he wanted the attention so desperately. Haru smiled against his lips and then pulled back. “How about I give you a chance to make it right. If I remember while you are then so be it and I’ll deal with it then.” He said and the sighed. “Truly I\'m tired of being alone and having Yuki hit me for liking him. But I seem.” he paused and didn’t start talking again.
“You seem?” Kyo questioned almost frightened.
“It’s of no importance.” Haru said softly and pushed hair out of Kyo’s face.
“Haru?” Kyo asked and fidgeted.
“Yes?”
“Why are you letting me try?” Kyo asked and tilted his head to the side.
“Because, it seems right to.” He said a small shrug coming from him. “And everyone needs a second chance sometimes.
Kyo nodded and closed his eyes and took in a deep breath.
“Your afraid your ganna mess up again aren’t you.” Haru said bluntly.
Kyo nodded his head. “Cause I will. I don’t know how to have a relationship. Everyone’s always hated me and been all to happy about letting me know.” he admitted.
Haru nodded. “You don’t want to mess up.”
“No I don’t. You were.” Kyo stopped and bit his tongue fisting his hands again.
“I was?”
“You were there.” He said his hands twitching slightly.
“Were there?” Haru questioned lightly sitting on the side of the bed crossing his legs.
Kyo nodded his head and turned his face down. He took a shaking deep breath and said calmly. “You were the only one I couldn’t push away.” He finished. “No matter what I said or did you never left. You kept challenging me, kept getting under my skin.” He shook his head as his voice wavered. “And then.”
Haru watched the boy in front of him that seemed to be wrestling with something large and much to big for him to do alone. “And then what Kyo?” He asked softly.
“And then .” Kyo swallowed the hard lump in his throat. “And then one day it became all to much. Who I am decides my fate. And.” He shuttered violently. “And I couldn’t take it. I guess I cracked.”
Haru simply tilted his head to the side as the story sounded vaguely familiar. It brought a deep sadness into his whole body. Every sense of his being was being dulled and pulled down. It was almost as if someone was fading everything in his body and taking it out. Like life had no reason or purpose. It was simply to breath and that was all. There was no joy, no happiness, the sun never shown in this boy’s world despite his flame like hair and bright mahogany eyes.
“I jumped.” Haru zoned in on the words and his heart jumped into his throat.
“But someone must have found you for you to be here.” Haru said logically.
“Yes.” Kyo nodded his head once. “You did.” His voice cracked as he silenced himself once more.
“But.” He started only to have Kyo shake his head.
“Please don’t ask me.” He whispered in an agonized voice. “Truly it would be better if you had completely forgotten me and never saw me again. Cause if you give me a second chance I will break your heart again.”
“Why?” Haru asked. “If you love me why break my heart.”
“I can’t stop it.” Kyo said quietly. “It’s not something in my control.” His voice was fading out.
“But.” Haru stopped himself. “You have to do something. I don’t want to remember you all over again just to have my heart broken.”
Suddenly warm caramel colored hands balled into fists and slammed into the thin thighs and a voice that seemed not to belong to Kyo but a small child cried in a despair so deep you could drown. “WHEN I GRADUATE I’M BEING THROWN AWAY UNTIL I DIE!” his voice cracked and in his face though his eyes were useless you could see a small child lurking in there. “They’ll throw me away. And make me disappear, like I was never born. Like I have no right to live.” His voice dipped into a faint whisper.
“Why don’t you try?” Haru asked simply.
“Because.” He said his voice filled with self loathing. “No one loves the baka neko.” He turned his face towards the window and the sun shown off of the tear stained face.
Haru reached up a cool hand and wiped the tears away. “If that were true you would be dead.”
Kyo turned his face towards Haru. “But I hurt you in the end and .” he stopped himself.
“And?” Haru questioned.
“You forgot me.” was his quiet reply.
“But why did I forget you the whole story?” Haru asked still utterly confused.
“Haru go find Hatori.” Kyo said and reached out once to touch Haru‘s hand lightly. “He’ll tell you the truth and then you can decide for yourself if I should get the chance to try again.”
Haru nodded. “I’ll be back.” Haru stood from the bed and walked out of the door to see Yuki leaning against the wall his head down and his arms crossed over his chest.
“How did it go?” He asked and lifted his head.
Haru blinked for a couple of moment. “When you in there with him and he’s talking to you it’s like suddenly everything is taken away. All the happiness is gone.” He shook his head. “It’s like he’s never had a sunshine on his face despite his coloring.”
“It’s cause his life wasn’t like that.” He said and looked at Haru.
“Why?”
“Cause he’s the neko.” He answered simply. “The neko is the sign the family abuses, puts down, turns away from anything you can think of that causes pain in any form is what happens to the neko simply because they are the neko and they are alive Haru.” He said very simply.
“But he’s so fragile on the inside.” He said almost to himself.
“And your the only one that can see that.” Yuki answered. “You are the only one he lets see. Out of all of us you are the only one.”
“It’s not that hard. Just look into his eyes and you’ll see all this pain and if you look deeper you’ll see a hurt child. That’s all he is, is a hurt child that’s looking for something to protect him. Something that will shield him from the world.” Haru said with as small hand gesture.
“He closes himself off from us.” Yuki said shrugging his thin shoulders.
“But why?” He asked annoyed he was never given a straight answer.
“Because, your the only one who cared.” Yuki looked at him with violet eyes.
“What?” He looked puzzled.
“Your the only one who cared, because you understood the most. You understand what the whispers under people breath do to you, how the words cut you down till even you start to believe them yourself. You understand what words can do, how they can break your heart until you feel like you have nothing left but broken fragments that stab you when you breath.” He looked up and shrugged a shoulders again.
“You seem to, too.” He said plainly.
“I understand people turning their backs on you.” Yuki said and looked at him with a quietness about him. “You understand everything else.”
“Tell me something Yuki.” Haru said looking down at the tiled white and black floor.
“What?” Yuki asked and stood up straight turning to walk away.
“If you understand that, then how can you turn your back on Kyo, how can you turn a blind eye to the pain he’s suffering when you, yourself have been at the end of it.” He asked looking up at Yuki’s back. “How can you turn your back on a boy who was never a child, just like you. Who has been beaten and battered in every way imaginable.” He continued to look at Yuki’s back. “How can you just let them throw him away like he doesn’t matter.”
Yuki’s back stiffened. “Because I can’t save him. Only you can.” He said and turned to walk away.
“Then who saved you?” Haru questioned stopping Yuki’s feet again.
Yuki looked over his shoulder at Haru with a sad smile. “The same one who abandoned me when I was a child.”
“Aya.” Haru whispered.
Yuki nodded his head once and then started to walk away keeping his pace slow so that Haru could catch up.
“How did he save you?” Haru whispered.
“He got Akito’s attention.” He said softly. “He never knew though, he was just being himself.”
“But you hate your brother.”
“I don’t understand my brother.” Yuki corrected.
Haru grunted. “Do you love Aya?” He asked and watched his face.
Yuki stopped walking all together and hid his face behind his hair. Haru nodded knowing that was the only answer he was going to get.
“I’m going to see Hatori. Kyo asked me to.” Haru said and waved at Yuki as he jogged off.
“I don’t know you.” Haru said a confused look running across his face.
