In the end
Renami’s POV
I walked by Tsukatsu as she led the way. Today was both a day of mourning and happiness. So many lives had been saved by the decision Yuki made then. And now we were off to thank him and Shuichi Uesugi. After that day the cold heart that beat in Eiri’s chest melted and he proposed to the singer who had returned to the way he was before he met me. Their wedding was a quiet one but a memorable piece of their story. I looked up and saw that we were here—standing in front of their graves.
Four hundred years have passed since then and I can still feel the warmth of their bodies. Honestly I can say that they were both good in bed and that Yuki had trained Shuichi well. I bow my head in respect and place the flowers I was carrying on the graves. I look over at my sister and see that she is crying. I don’t blame her. They were two of a kind. They created a new future for everyone. The sad thing is that they didn’t live to see it. Maybe now they’re in their own peace, or at least we can hope.
I turn my gaze away, unable to stare at the graves any longer. Today is their anniversary. They stayed together till the end. They adopted a daughter that grew up to be a novelist like Yuki and she had a son that became a singer like Shuichi. They lived out their long lives in harmony, aside from the occasional arguments that always led to make up sex.
They’re not the only ones that lived happily. Four years after they passed the fighting ended and the world began to heal. Such things as weapons were outlawed and violence was no longer an issue. People reframed from using force and learned to coexist with different people from various backgrounds. Of course this was all thanks to my sister’s and mine hard work. Had it not been for them, though, we might never have gotten the chance to change history so that no one would ever have to go through what we went through.
I walk to a nearby tree and sit at its base. Tsukatsu bows one last time and walks away, leaving me alone. I close my eyes and try to remember the moments that I spent with the lovers. It was fun to say the least. The only thing that I honestly regret is not having the chance to get to know them better. There was so much more that we could have talked about. We didn’t though. I look at the sky. I know what heavens reside there. I also know all the higher beings that people create a belief around. And yet, I don’t know if wherever they are at they’re happy. More than likely but one can always wonder.
I lie down and close my eyes, tired of the day’s schedule. I want to dream of them. Seeing their faces and hearing their voices would let me know that they are well. That’s it. Maybe that’s where they’re at. Silent tears fall from my eyes as I breathe softly and fall into an endless slumber in which they are alive and well…my friends.
