Chapter 11

Nimh was awakened by a persistent poking the next morning. “Wha?” He opened his eyes and found himself staring into Wally’s green ones.

“Gardevoir says that Pokémon you’re after was here last night.”

“Wha?!” Wally quickly backed up as Nimh bolted off his hammock and stumbled a bit before deciding to just sit down. “It was here?!?”

Wally smiled. “Yeah, and took off when you kicked the stool over last night. How did you manage that anyway?”

But Nimh didn’t hear his question. It took off again? He was beginning to feel like crying, or tearing his hair out, or something... This was so unfair! Not even a night here and it was already gone!

He felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up. “Gardevoir also said that it wants to help me... but it can’t unless you capture it. I don’t think it would leave so soon if it really wanted that. So check your Pokédex, just in case?”

Nimh nodded and reached up to the desk for his Pokédex. Sure enough, a tiny white dot over the Tower indicated the Pokémon was still in town. “Heh, it’s a miracle...” He jumped up and pulled his clothes on. They needed washing, but he didn’t care about that right now; all he could think of was getting into the tower to catch that Pokémon. “Well come on! Let’s not dawdle!”

Wally laughed and jumped up, Gardevoir following them closely. They followed Nimh inside.

“Careful,” the older trainer warned. “The floor’s weak and filled with holes, so watch your step.” Wally nodded and looked down, narrowly avoiding sticking his foot in one of those holes. Nimh ignored a pair of giggling girls as they attempted to scare each other and simply headed toward the back, looking for a way down.

Wally did his best to stay close, but stopped when the giggling stopped and turned into suspicious whispering.

“Isn’t that the missing Hoenn Champion? The one with the green hair?”

“He’s the one that got kidnapped right? It really does look like him...”

He paled. “Nimh...” he whispered, inching away when the girls weren’t looking.

“Hm?” Nimh turned his attention back to Wally, frowning at his worried look. “What’s wrong?”

“I think I’ve been recognized...”

“Damn it...” Nimh growled. He sighed, one hand resting against his forehead as he though. “Damn it... looks like we gotta move again... Haunter, go scare those brats over there.” He ordered, releasing the ghost Pokémon from its ball.

“Haunt!”

Not even ten seconds later, the two trainers heard screaming and the thumping footsteps of a pair of girls running out of the tower in fright. Nimh could hardly contain his laughter; Haunter didn’t even bother trying. Wally just shook his head and followed his friend back to their base, where they began packing once again.
