A few weeks later.
Aster woke abruptly, to the feeling of Dark Kingdom energies. She reached out for Takagi to find him sitting up, as well. Without either of them speaking, the both rose from the futon and threw on robes.
Takagi reached for his swagger stick, and was more than slightly puzzled when Aster left her henshin wand behind.
He followed her out the back of the house, through the solarium, and to the Zen garden in the precise center of the property, all the time wondering why she was not alarmed, and why she had chosen not to transform.
All four of the Shitennou were standing at the Zen garden. Zoisite had his arms wrapped around a pale, shivering figure with masses of dark hair, wrapped in a purple kimono. Kunzite was standing directly behind him, but not touching him.
“We found her,” Nephrite said. “She was in a living crystal, in Beryl’s keep. We haven’t been able to find out what happened to her, and she won’t let anyone but Zoisite near her.”
“You know Takara,” Aster snapped. “You know what he does.” She carefully approached Zoisite, and then reached out and touched the woman in his arms.
“’Cinda,” she said. “’Cinda, it’s Aster.”
The woman turned her head and raised haunted hazel eyes to her adopted sister.
“Aster?” she asked. “Is it really you, or is he trying to drive me mad?”
“Find out for yourself,” Aster replied. “Feel the Earth underneath you. You are home, now, and he’s not going to get the best of you again.”
“I have a husband,” she sobbed. “How can I face him like this?”
“I know about Taiyono,” Aster said. “You’ll stay with me, and I’ll help you. Taiyono will come when you’re ready, and he’ll only stay as long as you can stand it. You will get better, trust me.”
“He said I was never going to see the Earth again,” she sobbed. “He said that I was his to do as he pleased.”
“Never,” Zoisite assured her, stroking her hair. “Go with Hoshiko, Akari. Kunzitosama visits her, and when he does, I will visit you. I promise.”
“Zoisito?” she said, looking up at him. “You do not think Takara has taken away my face?”
“I never thought it before,” Zoisite assured her. “I do not think it now. You fought as valiantly as any warrior, just on a different battlefield. Go with your sister. I will see you in a few days.”
“Yes, Zoisito,” she said quietly. She moved to her sister, and then she stopped when she saw Takagi.
“Pruto,” she said. “I never expected to see you again.”
“Welcome home, Terra,” he said.
Aster moved to the Shitennou and embraced each of them in turn, from Jadeite to Kunzite, thanking them for finding her sister. Takagi noticed how all of them, even Zoisite, seemed extremely reluctant to release her and lose her warmth. Kunzite’s hands lingered on her the longest, and he pressed a kiss to her forehead, leaving her planet mark glowing.
She stepped back from them finally, and watched while they returned to the Dark Kingdom, each in their own fashion. After Kunzite disappeared, there were two rosebuds on the gravel where his feet had been.
Aster picked up the roses, and then handed one of them to her sister. While Lucinda was inhaling its fragrance, Aster walked over to Takagi.
“I’m going to get her cleaned up,” she said. “You might as well go back to bed. Its going to be a long night for me.”
“Why don’t you call her husband?” he asked.
“Because my stepfather had her in his possession since you took me to Los Angeles,” she said. “In the Dark Kingdom, time flows as the Black Queen wills. Zoisite told me that, right now, she’s having it flow slower than our time. We don’t know how long it was for her.”
“I would think that she would be more eager to see her husband,” Takagi said.
“Look,” Aster said, her temper rising. “Do I have to draw a picture for you?”
“Maybe you do,” he snapped back.
“Takara’s a rapist,” Aster snarled. “He gets his kicks from assaulting females, from little girls to full grown women, and showing them how helpless they are. He particularly likes virgins, and he has the means to make them so as often as he wants to. Satisfied?”
“I see,” he said. “I’m sorry, Nikkou, I didn’t know. I’m surprised you let me touch you.”
“If I let him come between me and my natural inclinations,” she said. “Then he wins, and I am not worthy of the mantle of Sailor Sol. I’ll help my sister heal, and I actually hope that Takara comes after us. Between Haruka, Lita, Minako, and Usagi, he’d be mincemeat.”
“I’ll spend the rest of the night in my room,” Takagi said. “In the morning, I’ll move some things to the other house, with the men. Sean and the others are coming soon. Perhaps I should go to Los Angeles and come back with them.”
“If that’s what you think you should do,” Aster said. “She won’t feel that Washino, Tori, or Chimei are threatening. I don’t think she’ll feel threatened by any Kishi, but that’s a far cry from being willing to let one touch her, especially sexually.”
“What about Thomas?” Takagi asked. “Her satellite isn’t going to be a threat, and Thomas is practically a monk.”
“True,” Aster said. “I’ll go over and tell the guys after sunup.”
“Too late,” Takagi said, nodding his head in the direction of the house that Vincent, Thomas, and Robert were living in.
All three of them were coming across the yard towards Lucinda.
“Damn!” Aster said, hurrying to intercept her planet partner in his path towards his wife.
“Taiyono,” she said as she approached him. “This isn’t a good idea. They found her, but Takara had her. You know what that means.”
“All the more reason for me to be here,” he said. “You know what they tell you when you fall off a bicycle.”
“Take your own advice, Taiyono!” Aster snapped. “She’s just been brought back, after being in a living crystal, probably except when he wanted to use her. Leave her alone for now. You deal with your issues, and I’ll help my sister deal with hers. Call me at around noon.”
He looked at her angrily, and opened his mouth to say something, but then closed it when Robert put a hand on his arm.
“She’s got a point, Vince,” he said. “You talk about her getting back on the bike, but you won’t even consider the possibility. Give her until noon, okay?”
“She’s my wife,” Vincent objected.
“She’s my sister,” Aster said. “I know, in a way you can’t, what she’s been though.”
“That ain’t so!” he exploded. “My brother … “
“Your brother couldn’t fix the damage he’d done, like it had never happened,” Aster said, waving her arms emphatically. “That is, until he got the urge again. Sometimes it was every night. How’d you like every time to be the first time again, Taiyono? How would you like to remember an almost endless string of rapes where you were a virgin? Leave her to me for now.”
“Okay,” he said. “Ah’ll go. I’m callin’ at noon, though.”
“I’d be disappointed if you didn’t,” Aster said. “I’ll let you know if she feels able to see you before then.”
“You betta,” he said, and then he turned and went back to the house.
Aster watched while he went into the house, and then while the light went on in the kitchen. Like the girls and even herself, Vincent went to something he knew when he was troubled.
Aster turned back to her sister, to find Lucinda embracing Thomas while Takagi and Robert looked on. Thomas was stroking her hair and murmuring to her. When he felt Aster’s eyes on him he looked up at her.
“I would like to come with you,” he said. “There is much I do not understand about this land, but I know that she has been hurt, and she finds my presence comforting.”
“Of course you can come, Tsuki,” Aster said. “You are always welcome in my home.”
“Thank you,” he said. “What is the first thing we must do?”
“We get her a long, hot bath,” Aster said. “I know you won’t be comfortable with that, so why don’t you go get dressed, and then come back over and make some tea?”
“That, I know how to do,” he said. “I will be back shortly.”
He murmured into his primary’s hair for a few moments, and then separated himself from her with visible reluctance. Aster held her arms out to her sister, who moved into her embrace as though she were a bird coming home to roost.
“Let’s get you inside,” Aster said. “You need a bath.”
“I am very dirty,” her sister agreed. “Can you clean me?”
“Of course I can,” Aster said. “If I can’t, then I know who can.”
Aster and her sister headed for the solarium. Inside, they were both surprised to see Usagi and Chibi Usa waiting for them.
“I can help her get clean,” Usagi said. “She looks like she’s half starved.”
“Right,” Aster said. “Okay, Usa-chan, you take her to the bath. Chibi Usa and I will go into the kitchen and whip up some chocolate, chocolate chip cookies and hot cocoa.”
“Right,” Usagi said. She gently took Aster’s sister by the hand and led her towards the ofuro, talking to her quietly.
~*~*~*~*~
Aster occupied herself with making the hot cocoa from basic ingredients, and then the cookie dough. When the first batch was in the oven, she went looking for Takagi, to ask if he wanted any.
Instead, she found an empty bed and a note on the pillow.
Nikkou;
I thought you should have some time alone with your sister. I have gone to get the other Kishi. I will call you when I return to Tokyo.
Korio
Aster looked at the note for a long time, and was startled when a large tear hit the paper. She had not realized that she was crying.
Somehow, even though he was doing this for all the right reasons, it felt like he had abandoned her, with her insecurities and her fears, just when she needed him the most.
