What is this life?
Chapter 11
“We’ve gone over this for two days, I said NO!” Tohma Seguchi was losing patience with his wife.
"Tohma, you promised. This is what I want." Mika was adamant. Tohma did promise her "anything".
"You know what I meant by anything, jewelry or furs." Tohma is not winning this argument. "I didn't say we would go anywhere. Why do you want to go on a trip with me, anyway?"
"Tohma, we have an agreement. I look the other way when you dally with your playthings. In return, you grant me a semblance of a marriage." Mika knows she is winning. "Going away to some place like Beijing is just that. When was the last time we did anything a normal married couple would do?"
“I don’t call two weeks in Beijing something a normal couple would do.” Touche!
“Beijing is becoming a real tourist attraction. Besides, it’s the one place in the world you don’t have any business holdings. It would be a real vacation for you, too.” Touche yourself!
Tohma Seguchi knows she’s right. He hasn’t been on a real vacation in years and Beijing is a temptation. “I give up. You can have your trip. Besides, as you said, I don’t have any business holdings there. It might be a good time to look around for prospects.”
It isn’t that Mika really wants to spend two weeks in Beijing with her less than amorous husband. Eiri needs to get him out of the country. “Good. Oh, and since I knew you would come around, Here!” Mika grabs an envelope off the bureau, thrusting it at her husband.
“What’s this?” He opens the envelope and there are two round trip tickets to Beijing, hotel confirmation, perspective itinerary and passports. “When did you do all this?”
“Last week. It just took me this long to get you to agree to go. You can be a very difficult person, Tohma.”
Mika has a wicked little smile on her face. “I knew you would cave in, eventually.”
“I can’t just up and leave tomorrow morning for China.” Tohma is getting annoyed. “I have meetings planned and contracts to negotiate. This is just too sudden. The plans have to change.”
“Already took care of that. I called Noriko and told her we were going away. She’s handling the negotiations with the Americans, right? Well, you don’t need to be here for that.” Gotcha! “Noriko says that is the only outstanding item on your agenda. Even if the negotiations go without a hitch, the paperwork for those new distribution centers won’t be done for a month. You have plenty of time to go with me.”
Tohma knows she has done her homework. Leave it to her to cover the bases. “I assume Nori-chan helped you concoct this little plot of yours. You two seem to have gotten chummy lately.”
“Well, girls like to have fun. Noriko thinks this would be fun. She agrees you’ve been working too hard lately and need a break.” Turning and leaving the room she adds. “I’ll have the valet pack for you. We leave at 9:00 AM tomorrow.”
Tohma sighs in defeat, “Women!”
Mika goes to her private suite and calls Eiri. “It’s all done. We leave in the morning. You better have everything at your end prepared.” She hangs up the phone she adds. “Please be careful, Eiri.”
Eiri hangs up the phone with Mika and dials Ryuichi Sakuma. “Seguchi and Mika will be out of Japan tomorrow morning. I leave for Istanbul tomorrow night.”
Ryuichi agrees. “I’m ready. My flight leaves in six hours. Did the shipment make it to the gallery okay?”
“Yeah, it’s there.” Eiri adds, “Good thing customs doesn’t check the actual contents of crates marked for my place.”
“OK then, I better go. My staff has to be given the cover story. Wish me luck.” Ryuichi hangs up.
Eiri thinks aloud, “You’re going to need it for this plan to work.”

In K’s office, the wary overseer listens. “So, Eiri-san, you and Mika are the ones. This should be interesting. I wonder what you’re planning. Maybe I’ll take a little trip of my own. Seguchi-san, what you don’t know won’t hurt either of us”
K calls Suguru. “Hey, I’m going out of town for a couple of days, but I want to see you first. Be here in an hour.”
Suguru is puzzled. “Is Tohma sending you somewhere? It’s kind of sudden, isn’t it?”
“No, Seguchi doesn’t know about this trip. He’s leaving for China with the wife tomorrow. I have a few days left for leave, I think I’m just gonna take them.” K hates to withhold anything from his lover, but Suguru is Seguchi’s cousin. It may be better that he not know what’s going on. “See you soon?”
“Yeah, Sakuma-san called a staff meeting. I’ll come over after that is done.” Suguru hangs up.

“I will only be gone for a few days. While I am away, I expect everything here to run smoothly. Tatsuha, you’re in charge of things.” Ryuichi has been talking nonstop for ten minutes, basically going over the same stuff he always does when he leaves for trips. “I know I can count on you. Oh, and Shuichi, you will be staying here. I can’t take you out of the country. Suguru, you are responsible for Shuichi while I am gone. Now are there any questions?”
Suguru looks at Tatsuha and then Shuichi. “Sir, I will need instructions for your… pet.”
“We’ll talk about that upstairs. Well, if that’s it, you can all go back to work. Thank you.” He walks away, Shuichi behind him.
Ryuichi is acting like, well, Ryuichi. His outward appearance and tone are what everyone expects, hyper-happy. Inside Ryuichi is a bundle of nerves. He has never done anything like this before. He hopes this is the last time, too. It’s all so exciting, and scary. He and Eiri are going to Turkey to rescue Hiro from his new master. This is the same man that got Tohma into the sex slave business. He’s ruthless when it comes to slaves, but he is also a businessman. If he can make it a profitable business deal, then it will be okay. Tohma won’t be too angry. He’ll just tell him that he wants both slaves. Tohma won’t deny me another toy to play with. The only problem will be if I can’t convince him to trade. In that case, I hope that Eiri’s Plan B works.
Ryuichi’s train of thought is interrupted bySuguru. “Sir, about Shuichi, just what am I supposed to do about him?” He points to Shuichi. “It’s the first time we have had one of those things in the household.”
“Shuichi is not a thing. He may be a slave but he is still a human being.” Ryuichi faces his valet. “I just want you to be sure that he is fed and doesn’t escape. I don’t expect there to be any problems. He is going to be locked up while I am gone. Ryuichi retrieves a duplicate key from the end table. “Here’s the key to his room.”
Suguru takes the key. “And if he tries to escape, what do I do?”
Shuichi looks at Suguru and then bows to his Master. “Master, I promise not to cause problems. I won’t try to escape.” He looks at Suguru again. “Don’t worry, sir. Master Sakuma has already told me what will happen to me if I don’t behave. Besides, I don’t have anywhere else to go.”
Suguru questions this slave’s complacency but realizes he is correct. Where will he go and how will he get off the grounds. Tohma, has security cameras everywhere outside the premises. If by some chance Shuichi does make it outside, the guards will be alerted and the dogs will be set to track him down. “Well, Sir, if there are no other specific instructions concerning Shuichi, I will leave.”
“I’ll need you to pack my suitcase. I’ve already selected the clothes I want to take. They’re on my bed.” With that he turns and walks away. “Once you pack my bags, you can go. Thank you.”
Suguru bows and goes to pack for Ryuichi. As he passes Shuichi, he grabs his arm and whispers: “Cause me one bit of trouble and you’ll regret it. Remember, Tohma Seguchi is my cousin.”
Shuichi freezes in horror. Seguchi-sama is his cousin? No wonder I don’t like him.
