DN Mpreg Ch. XI
DN Mpreg XI:
With the two professional criminals together in the same room with investigators, the aura became perturbed around them. The room suddenly segregated into two teams, it seemed. On one side were the police, Mogi, Matsuda, and Soichirou standing shoulder to shoulder; together they showed they outnumbered the "bad guys". On the other, the criminals stood slack and laid back, not taking any unnecessary closeness with their counterparts, and between the two opposing forces was Light and L.
"Their criminal dexterity will help this case," L stated, sliding his finger over the china and catching crumbs, "It would be in everyone's best interest to keep in mind the kind of man that we are after."
That seemed to make both sides relax.
"Ryuuzaki," Matsuda piped up, "Not to be rude or anything to our guests..." He cast a weary look at the pair, "But why would a great detective like yourself need to make an alliance with known criminals?"
"Let's just say we have an agreement," he replied with a sharp tone that Matsuda knew meant not to ask any more questions.
"Oh hey, I have to go play manager for Misa Misa today," Matsuda suddenly said, trying to change the subject while he looked at his cell phone. "Well, I'll be off then." And with that said, he was gone. L released a sigh of relief; now they could get some real work done. He explained his plan to the newcomers and told them everything that had happened so far, including his suspicion of Light Yagami and why they were handcuffed together.
L requested another slice of cake, which stated in itself that the break was over and real work needed to begin. After typing for so long, Light took a break to give his fingers a rest and to pick at his own mind for a while. He sat pondering, first about their current situation, but it wasn't long before his mind turned to Kira. 'If it was possible to kill a person with just their name and face,' he thought, 'would I do such a thing? I do believe some people in the world are better off dead but... I wouldn't take it upon myself to try to make the world a better place if it meant becoming a murderer.' His brow wrinkled in concentration. 'No... I'm thinking about this too much... there's no way I could forget killing so many-'
"Is everything okay, Light-kun?" L interrupted him in mid-thought, "You're staring at me. Is it because you would like some of my cake?"
"No, it's not that." Light replied with a sigh. L had more or less a good idea what Light was thinking about, although he continued with his pretence.
"You can have some if you like." He held out the remainder of his dessert which Light didn't find very appealing now that the detective had picked off all the strawberries and had begun to scoop off the cream.
"I"ll pass."
"Suit yourself."
Their attention was adverted to L's monitor when the screen signalled they had a message from Watari. He let them know that the detective Erald Coil had been commissioned to reveal the true identity of L. Light's eyes slightly rounded, but the detective beside him seemed unperturbed by such news.
"Erald coil? Isn't he the world's second best detective after L?" Yagami Soichiro butted in, "Who commissioned him?"
"Kida Masahiko, Planning Director of Yotsuba Group's Tokyo Headquarters," the old man replied through the computer and milliseconds later, a profile of the said man appeared on the screen.
"So it is Yotsuba's work!" the ex-police chief exclaimed.
L seemed completely relaxed by this news; in fact, he seemed more confident as he looked over the data on his screen as he lazily poked at his cake.
"Yotsuba is working with or for Kira." Light moved closer to L to get a look at the data. "They want L's identity so they can kill him," he said with a slight tone of worry was in his voice.
While the others discussed about the prospect of being understaffed and the new threat that had appeared, L continued eating his cake. He took another bite while he half listened to their conversation, chewed and swallowed.
"It's fine," he said after hearing their squabble long enough.
"What?"
"I said it's fine. The detective known as Erald Coil is me." He paused a moment before continuing. "Currently the world's three best detectives: L, Erald Coil and Deneuve are me... Many people who try to find me fall for this. If you can keep it a secret, you can have this strawberry." He handed his last strawberry to Mogi, who wasn't quite sure what to do with it and put it in his pocket.
Light blinked at L, but felt a little more relieved that the raven head was not in danger. With the earlier news they had received, L finally had a plan; he would use Aiber acting as Erald Coil to get close to Kida Masahiko and he would use Wedy to hack the Yotsuba security systems and cameras. It was now safe enough to assume there was a definite connection between Yotsuba and Kira. Their first plan was to investigate and determine who at Yotsuba had the power to kill.
Just as L was halfway through his explanation, and much to his annoyance, Watari appeared on the screen again.
"Ryuuzaki."
"What is it now Watari?" the sulky detective asked as he was halfway through the explanation of his plan. He did not want to have to explain it more than once.
"There is a distress signal coming from Matsuda's belt."
Light looked over at L and saw the slightest movement in size of L's onyx orbs. "Where is it coming from?" he asked, though he already had an adequate idea.
"It's originating from inside Yotsuba's Tokyo Headquarters."
L let out a sigh. "Please disregard my earlier explanation," he muttered, "We're gonna need to come up with a new plan to help Matsuda out of his predicament. We'll need to rethink our strategy." He touched his temples with his fingertips, feeling a headache begin to push against his brain. "Matsuda, you idiot."
"This is definitely bad," Light said, cupping his chin with his thumb and finger, "What on Earth is Matsuda thinking, entering Yotsuba without clearing it with us?"
"How are we going to get him out of there?" Soichirou asked, "He might slip and say something wrong."
"I don't think we really need to worry about that," Light said to his father, "If Matsuda says nothing and clams up, it might result in something much more dire."
"Matsuda is well aware that he has entered the territory of an omnipotent criminal," L said, "He will have to come up with something quickly. His best chance would be to act as Matsui and use his position as Amane-san's manager to evade from causing any suspicion. Still, we can't leave him there alone. Soichirou-san, please call the number of Matsui for me."
"Ah, okay." He dialled the number and handed L his cell phone. The detective held it in that bizarre fashion between his thumb and finger, like he held everything else. They could hear it ringing through the ear piece.
"Isn't this kind of risky?" the teenager asked.
"I'll play my cards right." After he said this sentence, the call was answered. "Yo, Matsui, it's me, Asahi. How ya doin' my man?" Both Yagamis and Mogi nearly jumped when L spoke, much different from his usual monotone expression. They anxiously awaited for an answer.
"Hey, long time no see, Asahi," Matsuda replied. A silent sigh of relief washed over them.
"I hear an echo," L continued, playing his part, "You at home?"
"Uh huh..." Light and his father exchanged looks.
"You alone, then?"
"Yeah, I'm just here by myself."
The detective covered the phone and looked back up to them. "He's not with Amane-san. He's at Yotsuba by himself." He removed his hand and continued talking. "Hey, wanna hit the bars tonight?"
"The bars? Erm, not tonight, Asahi."
"Why not? Money in a tight spot?"
"Haha. Yeah, you know my money better than I do."
"He's in a tight spot," L reported to them. "Ah, that sucks, dude," he told Matsuda, "Maybe we can hangout some other time. I gotta go. Later." He snapped the phone shut and looked up at Light. "Light-kun, call Amane-san's phone, please."
"Uh, sure." It took him a moment to get over the initial shock of hearing him say the word 'dude', but he pulled out his phone and called Misa's number. She didn't pick up and he was forced to leave a message. "What do we do now?"
"He is in a tight spot." L chewed on the pad of his thumb, "However, if Matsuda does die then the suspicion on Yotsuba will be solid."
"Ryuuzaki!" Light snapped at him.
"If we try to make a move, they might be alerted," L explained his arbitrarily-seeming theory, "For the time being, we'll stand by and see what happens."
Caramel eyes lowered to the floor and his jaw clenched. "Yeah...that seems to be our only choice."
L rose out of his chair. "I need to use the restroom," he stated, "Light-kun and I will be back in a moment." He led the younger boy up the stairs and into the bathroom so he could empty his bladder.
Light sat on the sink's rim. "I bet it was very reassuring to Matsuda to hear your voice while in such a dangerous situation," he said, "Still, the whole audacity that he would do something like this..."
L cast his dark eyes over at the younger man. "Light-kun, why do I have the feeling that there is more to that than just what you said?"
The teenager chuckled and shook his head. "I can't believe you're so blind to it." L turned away to watch where he was aiming. "I told you before how much he wanted your attention."
"And I've done as you requested and made my treatment of him more positive."
"It's not just that. He wants you to praise him for doing something good."
"You sound like a psychologist."
Light shrugged. "I'm just saying that Matsuda was starving for your approval. So maybe...he thought that if he did this, he could give you some real evidence on Yotsuba."
"That is what I assume, too," L muttered as he shook himself dry, tucked himself back in and zipped his trousers.
"You're not seeing Matsuda's side of the picture." He chuckled once more, smile spreading wider. "You're a great criminal profiler, but you're completely ignorant when it comes to seeing what's right in front of you; if it's not anything incriminating, you won't even notice it."
The pregnant detective narrowed his eyes at his chained companion. "Okay, Light-kun," he said slowly, "Would you mind to enlighten me?"
"I don't know if I should. Matsuda might want you to figure it out yourself."
"Matsuda-san is currently in a life and death situation. We need to return to the investigation room very soon, so I would suggest informing me with whatever news about Matsuda-san you have now."
Light pushed himself off the sink's counter and stood in front of the detective. "Why do you think he went through something so reckless as sneaking into Yotsuba for you?"
"Other than his childish idiocies? I'll admit that I'm at a loss."
"He likes you," Light said bluntly.
"And your point being...?"
"No, I mean, he really likes you."
The truth seemed to finally make sense inside L's cranium as his large eyes blinked rapidly in stupefaction at his companion. Light's grin slightly increased.
"You're telling me," L said slowly, inclining his head forward, "the reason for Matsuda-san's caricature and irrational decision to sneak into Yotsuba Incorporate was because he is infatuated with me?" Light nodded. They were quiet for a few moments. The detective's dark orbs glanced around the room before they settled back onto Light. "We should return," he said as he reached for the door handle.
"Wait." Light grabbed L's hand and stopped it from turning the knob, "There's one more thing I need to ask you."
"Actually, Light-kun, you haven't asked me anything, yet."
"How are we going to tell the others?"
They weren't talking about Matsuda anymore. L pulled his hand back and attempted to stuff it in his pocket, but it proved an impossible task by the way his pants had become too small for him. Now he was not sure what to do with his hands, so he chewed on one nail on one hand and held his elbow with the other.
"As of right now, I'm still reviewing the outcome."
"It would be easier now since there are less of us," Light said, "You're gonna have to tell them eventually. Your jeans are leaving marks on your skin."
"They have become uncomfortably tight," he muttered as he tugged on the hem of his pants, "But why does Light-kun wish for me to hurry in telling his father that I am carrying his child?"
Caramel eyes widened. "Wh-What? You were gonna tell them it's mine?"
As soon as it left his mouth, his metaphorical foot shoved itself between his teeth. L's eyes narrowed into slits and his mouth became tight. "Are you hoping that when I do announce the news of my pregnancy, I won't tell them it's yours?" He stepped forward and Light stepped back. "You kept fighting me and fighting me for me to allow you to keep it, and then all the sudden you want nothing to do with it."
"N-Now wait, I meant--"
"Oh, but the perfect Yagami Light cannot be associated with--what did you call me--a freak?" Another step forward and another step back. L's advances were intimidating; his black-fire eyes and raging hormones made it only worse. Light's back came in contact with the door and he could go no further, but L crept closer until they were nose to nose. "So you want me to go ahead and break the news?" The only way Light could describe L's cat-like smirk at that time would be chilling and blood freezing. He leaned forward and descended his lips mere millimetres from Light's ear and whispered:
"Fine."
Before he could blink, Light was pushed out of the way, the door was open, and L was marching through, tugging roughly on the chain.
"Ryuuzaki! W-Wait! Hold on a--ouch!" Light stumbled his way after the detective but still he continued walking. "Wait just a minute!" He grabbed the chain and pulled on it, making L turn around before he descended down the stairs. "Can we at least talk about it?"
"Did we not just have a pretty informed discussion in the bathroom? I'm simply doing what you wanted me to do."
"You're not listening to me. I said we needed to do it soon. I didn't mean now!"
"What better time than now? There are fewer of us, and by what you said earlier about Matsuda being enamoured with me, I will at least have one person who will support me!"
"I'm gonna support you no matter what, but you just can't blurt out such... intangible news without some sort of plan."
"Then what do you propose we tell them?"
"Tell us what?"
Upon hearing the foreign voice, L whipped around. Soichirou's head poked around the corner of the staircase. Light drained of colour and his eyes grew twice as wide.
Soichirou walked up the remainder of the stairs and stopped in front of them. "What did you want to tell us? It is something bad?"
L and Light remained completely still with wide eyes, looking like deer caught in headlights. Light tried to make up an excuse, but he could only make broken sounds and syllables when he opened his mouth. Soichirou's brow wrinkled and his dark eyes looked between the pair.
"Uh, w-well...you see, erm..."
When seeing how much Light was struggling, L stepped in. "Yagami-san, there is indeed something that needs to be discussed, however--"
"Dad, I'm gay!"
Both L and Soichirou's eyes fell on Light with bewilderment, though Soichirou's expression showed more shock than L's. It was very quiet between them, almost as if time and space had suddenly halted at Light's outburst. The two blinked at him, as if by blinking they could get the proper translation of what he had cried out.
"Th-That's what..." Light's eyes darted back and forth between chief and detective, "I was...going to tell you."
"Yes..." L said slowly, "Light-kun confided in me about his sexuality and the stress of having to keep it a secret. It causes much emotional damage to teenagers his age."
Light's father slowly sunk into one of the armchairs and cradled his head in his hands. "You're...a homosexual?"
The teenager gulped loudly. "Uh huh. I didn't...want you to hate me if I told you."
The older man looked up, but did not look at his son. Instead, they fixed upon L. "Ryuuzaki," he said in a deep voice, "Have you..."
"I can assure you, Yagami-san, that your son and I are not partaking in any kind of homosexual relationship," the detective answered, "During our time together, he had opened up to me about his dilemma of disappointing you and your wife."
"But you said 'we'."
"Yes, because if you were to discover on your own of your son's choice in sexuality, you would jump to the conclusion that he and I were together as you did earlier. I can see what made you assume, though; these handcuffs do give off a domination theme themselves." He held up his cuffed wrist.
"Just to make it clear.."
"No, we are not a couple."
He nodded his head. Light's frown deepened. "Dad...are you angry?"
The older man sighed through his nose and ran his fingers through his hair. "No...I'm just a little shocked, is all. Can you really blame me though? I am your father, after all."
Light's eyes softened. "Dad..."
"I dreamt that you would find a wife and give me grandchildren. I guess that's not really going to come true, huh?" He gave a small, breathy laugh.
"You still have Sayu, Dad."
"Not my little girl." Soichirou lifted his head and gave a small smile at his son, "But, if this is who you really are, then I must accept it. I always said that I would love you no matter what."
Light stepped forward and wrapped his arms around his father's shoulders and they both embraced in a hug. "Thanks Dad," he whispered.
"If your son was Kira, would you still love him?" L interrupted.
"Ryuuzaki!" Light snapped at him.
The detective shrugged. "It's a simple enough question."
"That should be one thing that I won't have to worry about," Soichirou said, laughing. "But, like I said earlier, I'll love him no matter what."
"Hmm." L's thumb pressed itself to his lips. To Light and Soichirou, he was taking their statements into account, but this was not completely true. It made him wonder if his son or daughter grew up to be a mass murderer and killed innocent people, would he still love them? Would he not feel some sort of malice or hatred toward them in anyway? He dropped his hand from his mouth and tried once again to slip them into his pockets but failed. "We should head back downstairs."
"Oh right! Matsuda!" Soichirou called out, jumping out of his chair.
"Dad?" Light grabbed his father's sleeve, "Will you do me a favour and not tell anyone, yet?" His father nodded. "Thanks."
It was starting to get late out and there was still no news from Matsuda. Suddenly Light's phone rang, it was Misa.
"Hi, Light," she said in a long drawn out voice. "I see you missed me today. I just got your message. I'm done working now so I can talk to you." he held the phone a few inches from his ear as her shrill voice echoed down the phone.
"Is Matsuda there with you?" Light asked once Misa had calmed down.
"Huh? No... he abandoned Misa. What a disgrace!" A distance ringing could be hear followed by, "My work cell phone is ringing." Light could hear her fumbling for her phone. "It's Matsuda."
"Matsuda is calling Misa," Light informed L.
"Ask Misa to hold the phones closer together so we can hear their conversation," L replied. After what Light had confessed in the bathroom, he was beginning to feel a bit relieved that Matsuda was still alive. Though it was purely impulsive and unpredictable, he felt a little responsible for his situation. It had appeared that Matsuda had negotiated a way to buy more time; he had used his position as manager well and had convinced Yotsuba to use Misa in a commercial, just as L had thought earlier. When Misa was done squealing with excitement, L tugged on his chained companion's sleeve.
"I have a plan that may save Matsuda, but we'll need Misa's help. She'll listen to you so I need to use that advantage." Light frowned at the last remark although he continued to listen to L's plan.
Within the hour everything was set up. It was decided to use Misa's flat as it already had cameras installed. As followed in L's plan, Misa ordered catering and hired nearly all of her colleges to help out. Once he got the signal that the Yotsuba group was inside, all attention was brought to the monitors with strict attention to enable them to assess the current situation. Moments later, Matsuda snuck out to the bathroom and called them using Misa's phone.
"Ryuuzaki, can you see me?" Matsuda asked in a low whisper from his current position inside the stall.
"Yes," L replied, balancing the phone between finger and thumb in his bizarre manner.
"Ryuuzaki, I'm positive one of those eight men must be Kira. They were holding a meeting on whom Kira should kill next. I heard it with my own ears. There's no doubt it's one of them!"
"If this is true, Matsuda, then those eight men must still want to kill you."
"I-I know, but...is there anyway for me to get out of this alive?"
"You being alive right now means that you still have a chance. What you have to do is die before you get killed."
Even from the cameras, the colour in Matsuda's cheeks drained. He leaned against the stall wall for support. "I...I see..."
"Follow my instructions exactly. Now, there's an empty street on the west side of the building..."
The plan was set and was getting into motion. Everyone left their seating and went to their designated posts. Following exactly as he had been told, Matsuda feigned being drunk in front of all the guests and balanced himself on the back porch's railing and fell. To everyone's eyes, it appeared that he had fallen to his death when they saw his body on the ground below, but unknown to them was the fact that Matsuda had been safely caught and the body they were seeing on the ground was Aiber disguised as Matsuda. L and Light quickly changed into their own EMT costumes and kept the ambulance a few blocks away in an alley. Where L got an ambulance in such a short amount of time, Light did not know.
Light checked his watch. "Okay, a few more minutes and we'll dispatch." He looked down at his left hand that was no longer handcuffed as it would be bizarre to see EMTs handcuffed to each other. He rubbed his wrist which felt naked without the metal ring around it.
L seemed to have notice this because he said, "I hope Light-kun does not get used to not being handcuffed to me because as soon as this is over, the chain goes back on."
The brunet tugged on the detective's belt. "You need to tuck your shirt in. It's part of their uniform."
"But it's uncomfortable." This was true considering L had been noticing how tight his own trousers were becoming around his usually slender waistline.
Light rolled his eyes and began to do the task himself. L leaned back and watched as Light's hand tucked his shirt into the front of his pants, watching his hand dip in and out of his pants. He grabbed Light's wrist and stopped it, then traced his fingers up his arm and wrapped both of his arms around Light's shoulders. The brunet simply stared at him.
"Light-kun looks very cute in uniform," L said, slowly rising himself up.
Slowly he inched closer to Light's lips. He tilted his head, parted his lips, but just when he was about to make contact, Light turned his head and L's lips brushed against his cheek. The pregnant detective pulled back, astonished that Light didn't allow his advancing.
"We're busy, Ryuuzaki," Light said a little annoyed, "We don't have time for things like that."
L released his hold on Light's shoulders and the two went back to their designated seating. "Yes," L mumbled with his finger to his lips, "We need to concentrate on Matsuda."
"It was just your hormones taking over," Light said.
Yes, his hormones. They sat awkwardly in silence, every thirty seconds Light would check his watch. L remembered the saying 'Be careful of what you wish for'. Now his wish had come true and he did not like it. He had gotten exactly what he wanted and they were no longer... They were never a couple, just a suspect and detective who played the hoax act of friendship to dig into the other. Feelings could not get in the way.
"It's been five minutes," Light finally announced, "Let's move out."
He turned on the siren and drove down the block to the "scene". Following their roles, they put Aiber on the stretcher (being much heavier than expected), loaded him into the ambulance, and drove off to a safe place. The Yotsuba men left the scene swiftly in case the police came to interview. The last thing they wanted was the police snooping about their business.
"Honestly," L said with a sigh when the ambulance came to another halt, "I know we're short on staff, but this is not my job. Matsuda, that idiot." Light laughed and shook his head.
After their ordeal, and Matsuda still alive, L and Light retired to their room to cleanse themselves of the day's unusual stress. Both were in the Japanese shower, sitting as far apart as the chain could allow them. Steam quickly filled the room, making everything hazy.
"Ryuuzaki," Light called out his companion's name after long minutes of silence.
"Hm?"
"I can't help but think you are pouting."
"Pouting? What do you mean, Light-kun?"
"Well, when we were in the ambulance...Nevermind. Sorry I brought it up."
"No." L turned so he could see Light amongst the steam. "What were you going to say?"
The brunet sighed and sat down the back scrubber. "I mean, I was a little angry that you came onto me in the ambulance especially after breaking up with me, but I remembered that you're pregnant so of course all the hormones could be too much. In all honesty, I think us breaking up was for the best. I gave it some thought and I think you're right. There's really no point in us delving into pleasure when in the long run, it will mean nothing."
L picked up the brush Light had placed on the floor and began to wash his own back. It did not feel as good as Light's hands, though. "And what about the baby?"
"It's up to you after all, isn't it? There's no use in me fighting for a child that I'm not going to see."
Perhaps it was indeed the hormones, but hearing Light so those words, it was awful. L had gotten exactly what he had wanted, and now he hated it. He wanted Light to care, to raise hell about the baby. He... wasn't sure what he wanted, but he didn't want this. This new Light wasn't the Light he wanted. He didn't want Light to agree to what he said. He wanted Light to argue and fight with him, at least then he felt somewhat special to him. But L was no longer special, was he? He wanted them to act like detective and suspect, and he got what he wanted.
The next day, the newspaper came in and claimed that Misa Misa's manager had fallen to his death, meaning that Matsuda had narrowly escaped being killed.
"I guess it's safe to assume that none of those eight Yotsuba have the same powers as the Second Kira," Soichirou said, gazing that the enlarged profiles of each one.
"Yes," L said, eating a Japanese sweet bean desert Watari had sent his way, "If one of them possessed the Second Kira's ability to kill with just a face, Matsuda would be dead even after faking his death."
"S-So I just narrowly escaped, didn't I?" Matsuda stuttered.
"Yes," L hissed, looking up at Matsuda with a dark look, "You just narrowly escaped. Don't do it again."
