A wave of cold anger seethes within Midoriya Inko as she watches her precious boy, her Izuku, get into the back of the patrol car with that despicable villain from up on the balcony of their apartment. That he was able to fill her Izuku's head with such nonsense about soulmates, all lies, and empty promises, just makes her even angrier! She'll have to deal with him first, and then she can go after that lying Detective for tricking her!
"Izuku just doesn't know better," Inko mutters to herself as she slowly draws the curtains shut, plunging the apartment into a relative dimness. "That's okay. He'll understand soon enough that it's all a lie." She turns on her heel to make her way over to the kitchen table where her laptop sits open and takes a seat in front of the device. "Todoroki Tōya, was it?" The family name is a familiar one, one that she's heard somewhere before, and as she thinks back to where she had heard it she allows herself a small smile.
Inko opens up her recording of the U.A. Sports Festival and scours the footage until she finds precisely what she's looking for, and her smile grows as she recognizes the boy touted to be the son of the pro hero Endeavor. And won't he be interested to know that he has a villain for a child? Surely he won't want it to get out and damage his reputation, right? Right.
The police station is abuzz with what Tōya assumes to be its normal activity as Detective Tsukauchi leads them inside, and though he knows that he's been let off the hook for any possible charges of villainy and vigilantism due to his actions in The Beast's Forest he can't help but be on edge. Noticeably so if the concerned look Izuku is giving him is anything to go by. He offers the teen what he hopes is a reassuring smile, though it feels rather forced, and does his best to relax. It's not easy to, not when he's spent the last ten years of his life living on the streets purposefully avoiding any sort of authority figure.
"You can freshen up first if you'd like, or we can conduct your interview first, Sōen-san, which Midoriya-san can sit in on as he is your soulmate," Tsukauchi says with a cordial smile as he leads them through the commotion of the foyer and into a hallway that branches off from it.
"As much as I'd like to get this interview out of the way, Detective, getting cleaned up sounds far more appealing right now." It's been a while since Tōya has taken a proper shower, not that he wants to admit to that, and even longer since he's had one with working hot water, so this is something he's actually looking forward to. And who knows how long the interview will take once he finally tells the Detective the truth? If there's one thing that Tōya is certain of, it's that there will be questions that will follow the reveal of his identity. Questions that will take him some time to answer. So, yeah, he wants to take a shower first.
"Of course, and we do have some spare clean clothes that you can change into once you're done." Tsukauchi leads them down the hallway, where it becomes clear that the area he is leading them to isn't really meant for anyone outside of members of the police force. "And, should it be necessary, a room for the two of you to bunk in if I can't secure a place for you to stay today."
"I'm just grateful that you're doing this much for us, Detective," Tōya says as sincerely as possible, though he leaves out that he has his suspicions as to why the Detective is getting so directly involved. That Izuku is All Might's successor is the main point that immediately comes to mind, though it could also be because Izuku is a hero course student. Either way, they're receiving assistance far quicker than is normal, which gives him less to worry about and more time to focus on getting Izuku up to speed on soulmates.
"While this is part of my job, Sōen-san, I really don't mind it at all. In fact, I'm happy to help those who find themselves in situations like yours get to a better place," Tsukauchi explains with a small, genuine smile, and he brings them to a door that has a frosted glass pane set into it and is labeled with 'Lockers'. "The showers are through here. Just give me a minute to go get those clean clothes for both of you and then you'll be all set."
Tōya gives a slight nod of acknowledgment then looks to Izuku as the Detective goes further down the hall and turns the corner, disappearing from sight. "How're you holding up, Izuku?"
Izuku frowns slightly, and he shifts from foot to foot as he takes the time to consider the question. "I honestly don't know right now." His voice is soft as he speaks, and the way that he holds himself, arms hugging his midsection with his gaze lowered, makes him look so very fragile at the moment. "I just wanted my mom to be happy for me, for once in my life, but she just hasn't, not even since before I was diagnosed as Quirkless."
Tōya bites back the urge to curse Inko's name and, instead, moves closer to Izuku to wrap his arms around him. The teen trembles a little in his embrace and ducks his head so that his face is effectively hidden from view, and what follows is a muffled whimper that has Tōya running his fingers through Izuku's hair. "I'm not going to say something as dumb as it's going to be fine because hearing that never really helps. It's going to hurt for a while, and you might not get over it for a long time, if ever, but I'm here for you. I'll always be here for you, Izuku."
It takes a few seconds for Izuku to nod, and then he shifts just enough to look up at Tōya, tears clinging to his lashes. "Thank you for that," he whispers, his voice quavering a little, and Tōya ruffles his hair just a bit.
"You don't need to thank me, Izuku," Tōya murmurs before the sound of approaching footsteps catches his attention. He looks up just in time to see Tsukauchi round the corner with the promised changes of clothes bundled in his arms, and he reluctantly loosens the hold he has on Izuku.
"I don't know how well these will fit but here you go," Tsukauchi says as he comes up to them and holds out the clothes for them to take.
Izuku hasn't moved away from him so Tōya keeps one arm around the teen and awkwardly accepts the clothes with the other, giving the Detective another grateful smile. "We shouldn't take too long, Detective," he promises, though he has every intention of taking his time, and Tsukauchi just waves him off with a smile.
"There's no rush, Sōen-san," Tsukauchi responds with a knowing look, and he opens the door for them. "I'll be waiting out here for you."
