Part Twelve: More Than You Bargained For
Thea and Mikia stepped into the stable.
Thea looked at Mikia as she yawned, “Where are we going? It’s awf lat late.”
Mikia smiled, “Yes it is. We’re going on a very special adventure.”
“Is that why you’re dressed funny?”
Mikia nodded and smiled, “Yes it is.” Mikia no longer wore the white pantsuit Thea knew.
“Why can’t I keep my crystal?”
“Because you don’t need it.”
That didn’t make any sense to Thea, but she figured if it meant a horsy ride she was all game.
Mikia placed Thea on the back of a horse and hoisted herself up. The pack on her back bounced. She offered one last look to the world she called home for a very, very long time.
With smooth command, the horse began walking to the external exit. Mikia figured it would be several hours before anyone would be up and notice that they were gone.
The horse hit the outside and took off like a shot. They galloped to the edge of the forest and Mikia figured it was safe to stop.
She got Thea down and whispered to the horse, “Go home.”
The horse turned and galloped off.
“So, this is Thea.” A low soft voice parted the night air.
Mikia turned toward Homura, “Yes, m’ Lord. This is Thea.”
Thea looked up at him and grinned. “I don’t think we’ve met.”
Homura knelt on one knee trying to get on an easier level to view her. “I’m Homura.”
The name didn’t mean anything to her. She hadn’t been introduced to the family politics yet. “Nice ta meet ya.” She bowed and Homura nodded.
Mikia watched him rise. “You know she’s not quite ready.”
“Yes, I’ve become weary of waiting for others to grow stronger.” He could feel the power from her, but knew she wasn’t entirely ready. She’d just have to get ready.
Homura leaned to grab Thea’s hand, “This will be strange, child.”
Thea jerked her hand away. “Don’t touch me.”
Homura smiled, “Oh yes, she’ll do.”
Homura folded time and space and in a blur they were standing in front of Mikiahildhildhood home. His minions insured that it was vacant and in order. He looked over at Mikia. “You’ll find what you need to begin her training.”
Thea seemed to wobble a bit as she settled into the new location. “Don’t do that. I don’t like that.”
He snickered as he knelt down, “It couldn’t be avoided.”
She glared at him, “There are always choices.”
He subtly shook his head and raised his arm.
Mikia grabbed at his wrist. “What are you doing?”
“Getting some insurance on my investment.” He jerked his wrist away and gave her a warning glare for her insubordination. He touched Thea’s head, “Confer divinity.”
Mikia’s mouth dropped. “You’re suppose to give a choice. You always ask!”
He stood up. “I simply rushed the inevitable. She’s not under my power. stilstill has her will, those without freewill are weak. She’s just protected. I suggest you start working.”
Thea’s eyes rolled back at the sudden surge of power. She began to tilt back and Mikia caught her. Homura was gone by the time Mikia looked up. She carried Thea into the small house.
The modest dwelling had two bedrooms, but the master bedroom had been equipped with two twin beds. Mikia laid Thea on one. She sat down on the other and thought about what she’d done.
She’d agreed to betray Jorja a long time ago…how many centuries now? Time no longer mattered . The betrayal of this child was not sitting well with her. As she laid down, she knew this wasn’t going to end well.
Mikia drifted off to sleep and Thea’s whimpers woke her. Mikia slid next to her and held the softly sobbing child.
Between sniffles Thea whined, “I want Jorja.”
Mikia rubbed Thea’s back. “Jorja’s not here.”
Thea whimd, “d, “Then, I want Gojyo.”
Mikia took in a deep breath. “I’m all you’ve got. I suggest you get use to it.”
Mikia didn’t rub the pain away like Jorja and Gojyo did. Thea wondered why she had to get stuck with the one person who never helped her feel better. Oh sure, Mikia acted like it, but it just didn’t work. Thea knew she’d have to bear the pain alone.
Eventually, Thea drifted off to sleep and Mikia slid into her own uncomfortable dreams.
The next morning, began Thea’s training.

Jorja left the chamber and Hakkai followed her out. “Who are you going to see?”
Jorja stopped and her shoulders dropped. “We’re going to need additional help. I have to call upon an old friend.”
“Kougaiji?”
She turned and looked at him. “Yes, but I’m not going to betray you. I’ll try to get a truce for this.”
Hakkai looked at her. Well that explains the violet eye. “I need to know something.”
She nodded.
“You fight the change with passion and yet you tried to get the sutra for them. Why?”
The confused look on her face let Hakkai know that Jorja had no idea about the connection between Kougaiji and the change over Shangri-la. “I don’t understand.” All she knew, all she ever knew about the sutra was the Kougaiji needed it to save his mother.
Hakkai smiled. “Never mind, I have my answers. All of them.”
He turned and stepped back into Scarlet’s chamber.
She walked down the hallway and thought about the man she hadn’t seen since she told him she failed at getting the scrie. Ne. Now, she’d have to ask for his help. Hopefully, he can provide her more help than she did for his mother.

“I don’t wanna play this game anymore.” Thea whined. She was tired and sweaty. She was sore and this wasn’t fun anymore. On top off all that, her clothes didn’t fit right.
Mikia pressed her hands to her face. Her patience was wearing thin.
Thea whined, “I wanna play with Gojyo and Monkey. Why can’t we go home?”
Mikia pushed her frustrations down, “Look you little…..we can’t go home. Now, I’m going to call it again and you will take it out. Are you listening to me?”
Thea’s body went limp and her head flopped from side to side, “I DON’T WANNA!” She stomped her feet.
Mikia gritted her teeth. “Then, it will hurt.” She summoned another fiend.
The medium sized fire fiend screamed into the air and came after her. Thea muttered, “Damn it. This sucks.” Her five year old hand flew out, a blade of chi sprang out under her command and it sliced the fiend clean through. “Gods! Can we stop NOW?”
Mikia spoke through her teeth, “Yes.” She wondered when Thea’s growth rate would slow. The pains had increased in intensity over the past few nights and if that little twit woke up one more time asking for Gojyo or Jorja she was going to lose it. She was never a kid-person to begin with, why did she agree to this!?
Thea slumped onto ground and began to rub her knees. “Why does it hurt so much? I want Gojyo.”
That was it. Mikia grabbed Thea and lifted her by the arm. “You’re hurting me!“
Mikia stormed into the house and conjured a cage. She threw Thea into it and slammed the gate closed.
Thea glared at her, “If you do that again, I will kill you.” She rubbed her arm.
Mikia stormed out of the house.
Thea curled up in a ball and softly whimpered, “I want Gojyo.”
