{Bows} My appologies for posting the same chapter twice. I for got to color code the pervious one (So I know it's up) and got mixed up. here it is the real chapter 12. Thank you to Foxy- san for pointing it out ^_^.
Wednesday came faster than any one really expected. The entire Sohma Zodiac came to bid Yuki good bye, plus the cat and the riceball. Tohru looked around the room. There was a man a woman in their mid to late forties sitting with Ayame. Neither looked as distraught at the snake. Onwa had come. He sat with his sister and another pair of adults that Tohru hadn’t meet yet. Miho sat beside them and there was a little girl who was being held by the unfamiliar man. The little girl, it seems, was still crying. In the way back, Akito sat alone, face set in indifferent lines.
The speeches were beautiful. Each person spoke about how much Yuki had touched their lives. ‘You see, Yuki, everyone will miss you,’ Tohru thought to the spirit Then the time came for everyone who wished, to come to the casket and say a few words to the body.
“Um… I don’t really know what to say.” Tohru said to the powered corps. “I’ll miss you. You were the first Sohma to be my friend, and if I hadn’t met you… I… Yuki, I don’t know why you did that? If you were in trouble you could have talked to me about it. I would have listened.” Tohru started crying. The riceball returned herself to her chair.
Next it was Kyo. He looked as though he was going to throw up. “Yeah, you damn rat, you always creamed me. This is a really horrible thing to do to make sure I never beat you…” The cat rubbed his eyes, “… I mean, for what you did… I… dammit… I… forgive you.” Maybe it was the relief of getting it off his chest, or his mind playing tricks on him, but what ever the cause, it looked like Yuki stirred. ‘But he couldn’t.’ Kyo reasoned, ‘he’s dead.’ Then it happened again. Yuki’s eyes fluttered under his eye lids.
“Yuki?” Kyo leaned in to inspect the body. This time the supposed dead rat rolled on his side, bringing his hand right along the cat’s cheek.
“You damn rat!” Kyo shouted, all shock being replaced with anger. Yuki’s eyes flew open at the sound of the cat’s yell. Tohru ran up next to her boyfriend.
“Yuki?” She felt like she was going to throw up.
“Kyo, why are you shouting about? Miss Honda, are you alright? Why am I so cold?” Yuki sat up.
“You wanna know why?!” Kyo yelled. “It’s becau-”
Ayame elbowed the sputtering cat out of the way and hugged the barely conscious rat. “Yuki, you’re a live! I can’t believe my brother lives again!”
“I… can’t… breathe…” Yuki chocked out.
“I told you it would work.” Onwa whispered to his sister.
Kadan rolled her eyes, “yeah, yeah.”
“Come on, kitty, say it.”
The cat woman rolled her eyes again, “you were right. Maybe you should…”
“Don’t even start, Kadan Wutase.” Onwa held up his hand.
Yuki now extricated himself from the coffin and stood on wobbly legs. Lucky for him, Ayame was holding on to him going on and on about what an amazing young man the rat was and how it was obviously because he had an amazing older brother he could look up to and it’s not every day that one performs a miracle like resurrection. From his brother’s inane ramblings, Yuki was able to surmise that his plan had worked. He looked over at Houseki who still sat on Hongo’s knees. She was beaming from ear to ear. The little girl said something to the Wutase snake and slid off his lap. She walked over to Yuki and motioned for him to come closer. The rat, still feeling like jelly, got on one knee.
Houseki threw her arms around him, “Big brother Yuki. I’m so happy you broke the curse. But I’m ever happier that you’re alive.”
“How long was I gone?” Yuki asked.
“Sunday night, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday… three days, if you put both halves of Sunday night and today together.” Houseki counted on her fingers.
“Congratulations Yuki.” Akito’s icy voice traveled up the rat’s spine. “I had been informed of the old legend dealing with the cat forgiving the rat’s betrayal. I didn’t think it was possible.” Yuki stood, pushing the little girl behind him. Houseki didn’t like the pale man.
“I’ve had a busy day.” Yuki said, “Do you think you could berate me tomorrow?”
Akito’s face contorted in anger, “How dare you talk to me like! You may not be zodiac anymore, but I am still head of this family. I will speak to you how I choose.”
“You’re mean.” Houseki’s brow was knit in disapproval. She had stepped around the tall rat.
Akito looked at her like he was studying a fly. “You couldn’t possibly know what I’ve gone through for my family, little girl.”
The girl looked up at Yuki. “He was the bearer of the curse.” The rat explained.
“No wonder you’re all so jumpy.” Houseki looked back to the pale man. “I do know what you went through for your family because it’s what I go though for mine. It still doesn’t give you the right to be mean.” Yuki hid his smile as he looked at the rapidly flustering Akito.
“And who are you, might I ask?” the Sohma curse bearer asked.
“My name is Houseki Wutase; I’m the head of the Wutase Family.” Houseki folded her arms. Granted she might lose points with Yari and everyone for not bowing, but she had to stand her ground. Yuki looked from the little girl at his side, to Akito, to Onwa and Kadan who were talking to the Sohma group, probably explaining the reason the curse was broken and why the rat had arisen from the dead. From the looks on their faces, most of them didn’t believe any of it. Honestly, he was confused by it too.
Akito regained his composer, “I can see that we are done here.” With that, he turned on his heel to leave.
Once gone, Houseki looked up at Yuki, child- like smile on her face. “Well, that got rid of him.”
Haru made his way to the small bevy in front of the casket. “Welcome back.” He said before decking the rat. “I realize that will be the only hit I get on you. But that was a dirty trick to play on me.” The ox left the rat to his thoughts.
The rest of the people weren’t really sure how Yuki was among them again only that they were happy that he was. The rat looked to the back of the room and saw his parents talking softly to each other. Occasionally they would glance up at him. Ayame followed his brothers’ gaze. The snake sighed and went to them.
“Mother, Father, you don’t need to stay here any longer.” He bowed respectfully.
“We think it would be wise to speak with Yuki.” Ayame’s mother said.
“It would be wise for Yuki to choose a career goal and work towards it. We have some ideas for his future.” His father said.
“No, don’t worry; I think Yuki can choose on his own. Just give him time.” The snake said.
A few hours found the room, previously used as the memorial hall, empty. The remaining stragglers stood outside talking. Momiji go the great idea to do something nice for Yuki. Tohru smiled at the thought. Of course the Sohma rabbit would think about something like that. Maybe it was her imagination, but the former members of the zodiac seemed so much happier. Kyo smiled and took Tohru’s hand. The cat looked back at the rat. Yuki gave him a small smile. He was going to have to thank Monkey. She imparted some very good advice for a five year old. ‘Your right. If everything isn’t alright it isn’t done yet.”
