To say Nikkou had been surprised by the news would have been a huge understatement. To say he was happy would have required brain damage. He sat at Arisa and Kureno's eating breakfast. Shishi had made a mess with his food and of his face and Arisa had taken the baby to the bathroom to clean him up.
Kureno waited until the door was closed before he turned to the boy, "I hear you know about the curse."
"Yeah, I saw Kyo transform."
"Did you know I used to be cursed?"
Nikkou looked up at the man, chopsticks halfway to his mouth. He stared so long that the food fell from the wood. "But... you hug aunt Arisa all the time."
"I'm not anymore and I don't know why. I didn't tell Arisa about it, but I was worried that someone else would be born with my curse."
"What year were you?" Nikkou put his chopsticks down.
"I was the rooster."
"Really? That's cool." Nikkou took a bite of rice. Arisa came back in carrying Shishi.
"He is three. He can walk on his own." Kureno said.
"I know, I just really don't want him screaming." To prove her point, Uo put the child on the ground. The little boy immediately started to cry loudly. The Yankee pulled her son back into her arms; he instantly quieted down.
"Are Mom and I moving up to live with Kyo?" Nikkou asked to question that had been on his mind since he heard about his mother's pregnancy yesterday.
"Who knows. But I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your mom is such a loving person she won't love you any less because of a new baby." Uo smiled at him. The phone rang and Kureno hopped up to answer it. He froze when he heard the voice on the other end of the line.

Kyo nervously fixed his clothes as he waited for Tohru to be ready. He had told her that they had to meet with the person acting as head of family to discuss the baby's future. The woman stood him front of him doing a turn.
"Do I look alright?" She asked. The simple sapphire blouse was complimented nicely by the hunter green skirt. Her hair was pulled back into a plain flip-through.
"You look fine. Come on, we're going to be late." Kyo took her hand after they put on their shoes. The two of them walked nervously to the main house, neither one speaking.
"Tohru... if everything goes well... I want... I-I think... we should get married." Kyo blushed as he looked down. He wanted to ask her when they got out of school. Even if the cat hadn't been imprisoned, he didn't get the chance. Before he knew it... the one he loved to most was gone. Kyo ventured a glance at Tohru. It hadn't occurred to him that they had stopped moving.
"Really? You want to get married? Yes... if everything goes well... yes I will." The woman started to tear a little.
"Are you crying because you're happy?" Kyo asked fishing in his pockets for a tissue.
"Yes." Tohru wiped her eyes taking a few deep breaths. They continued on to the house.
Already at the Sohma estate, Kureno was just stepping out of a cab. He didn't realize he was going to be called back to the main house. Truth be told, he didn't want to be here. He went to the center house, knocking on the door.
One of the servants answered, "Master Kureno, Welcome back, everyone else has been gathered. Please follow me." The old maid turned and retreated into the house. The former Rooster walked silently behind her. The details of exactly why he was here were unclear. The maid stopped in front of a door and opened it for him, bowing.
Kyo and Tohru walked through the gate to the center house and the woman was now visibly shaking. Kyo gave her hand a little squeeze before heading up to the door. This time an elderly man answered.
"Master Kyo and you must be Mistress Tohru, come in. they're all expecting you." The man led them down the main hall to the room at the end. He knocked on the door before sliding it open, "Master Kyo and Mistress Tohru are here to see you." The old man stepped back allowing them in. Tohru froze at the sight of all twelve of the members of the zodiac lined up in what appeared to be order of the years; Yuki on the left, Kagura on the right. The platform on which they sat was raised about a foot of the ground, making them quite literally stare down at the pair.
"Please sit down" Hatori said from his position. Kyo and Tohru took a seat on the two mats on the floor. For Tohru, it really was amazing to see them all together, like a page from a fairy tale. For Kyo, it was like being placed in front of a firing squad.
"A nearly unanimous vote says that the cat shouldn't be allowed a wife. But it was also decided that you may come before us and state if and why you think we reached the wrong decision." The dragon went on. Kyo's eyes grew wide as he took in the faces of not only his family, his cousins, but the cursed members of the zodiac he had always wished he belonged to.
"I..." Kyo looked away from them to the woman at his side. Poor Tohru looked close to tears. "Ever since I was little I've wanted to join you and a true member of the zodiac... of this family. But when I moved into Shigure's... was forced into Shigure's house, I met Tohru. And I realized I wanted something more and less at the same time. As the months and years went by, I realized I found a piece that had been missing. She gave me what I needed the most, unconditional acceptance, even when she saw my true form, even though it scared her, she didn't turn from me. Not even my own parents could do that. Everyone kept saying it's my fault my mother died... that she killed herself. But I now realize they were wrong. But while I still believed the lie I convinced myself I would never fall in love... that I didn't have a right to. But Tohru... I found myself doing small things to make her smile or laugh... I realized that I truly valued her opinion. It soon became not that I didn't have the right to love but I didn't feel I was worthy of her love. When she left, it nearly killed me. All I could think was what if... what if we meet again. Well... I've been given the chance to have her by my side again and I'm not letting her go. Never again." Kyo glanced at Tohru who now had her hand over her mouth while tears flowed down her face.
"Hey..." Haru spoke up. "I don't really give a fuck who made the rules but if they love each other why shouldn't they get married."
"It wouldn't be right. I don't have anything against Kyo, but we can't break tradition just 'cause we happen to like the cat this time around." Hiro spoke up, making himself not look at Kisa.
"You know... Kyo's always been a pain in the ass," Shigure said thoughtfully, "But Tohru somehow just by being with him has made the cat that sits before us a better man."
"I suppose that it's mainly my fault that Kyo had been imprisoned." Yuki spoke up, "I never told Akito that Kyo had finally beaten me. I was always telling myself that I loved Tohru, but now I see that I wasn't even close to the love and devotion the Kyo has shown." Tohru looked up at him suddenly.
"Alright" Hatori said at last, "All who agree the cat should be able to marry, raise your hand." Everyone's hand went up, Hiro's reluctantly.
"As acting head of family, I give you my blessing." Hatori said with a small smile.
"Son of a bitch... it was you?" Kyo asked. Hatori nodded once.
Shigure stood smiling ear to ear, "When's the wedding?"
"Sissy, I'm so happy," Kisa stood and gave Tohru a big hug, "Are you really going to have a baby?" Tohru nodded. Kisa turned to Kyo, "Congratulation!" She hugged him.
"Figures" Rin said to Tohru, "You just had to copy me. I guess it is a form of flattery." When Tohru started to stutter that it wasn't planed... not to say she wasn't happy... The horse laughed, "I was kidding. You picked a good one... He can be really eloquent when he wants to be." She winked at Kyo.
"Yes, he deserves our praise... to love someone for so long and not even see her... It's quite a feet." Ayame clapped Kyo on the back. Tohru smiled at Kyo as the members of the zodiac came up to congratulate him. It really was wonderful. She held a small smile on her face, watching him blush as Shigure leaned forward and whispered something in his ear. It was so nice. He was finally, even a little, accepted into the zodiac. Tohru's smile soon turned sour as a fresh wave of bile and stomach acid surged up her throat. She instinctively swallowed it down. Tohru took a few deep breaths and then, when she was sure the nausea was gone, smiled again.
After about an hour, the pair was allowed to leave. They walked through the property holding hands enjoying the beauty of the gardens.
"Nikkou should be happy." Kyo said at last. Tohru looked at him expectantly. "He won't have to be in the forth grade class."
Tohru giggled, "Your right." Then the nausea hit again full force. The young woman went running for the bushes and fell to her knees.
A/N- I should mention that my lap top is having trouble connecting to the internet (because the the signal I used to jump is now gone). So I have to upload the chapter to my flash drive them put it on the main computer in my house. My lap top is a PC and the main computer is a mac, so they have trouble talking to eachother. But if you see a wierd symbol that looks like it's German, ignore it. It's just computer coding that I missed. So for all of the one I've missed thus far and the ones I will miss, please accept my heart-felt "My bad". ^_^
