“Eiji! Come ON, it is time for you to get ready for school.”
Kikumaru Eiji stuck his head out from under the blanket and looked at his clock, the alarm on which hadn’t gone off this morning. He had to leave in fifteen minutes. He proved his acrobatic skills as he leapt from his bed, throwing the blanket to the floor in the process, and landed deftly on his feet. He grabbed his uniform and went into the bathroom to clean himself up. Six minutes and thirty-three seconds later he ran down to the kitchen, his bag bouncing against his back.
“Could you give me a ride to school?” He asked his mother. She turned to look at him, and smiled widely.
“You have toothpaste on your face.” She said, walking over to him and wiping it off. “Yes I will give you a ride today, but let’s not make this a habit.”
“Alright mother.” He replied, wiping the spot on his chin where she had wiped, making sure she hadn’t missed any. They walked out into the fairly warm morning and got into the car. A few minutes later, Eiji was waving goodbye to his mother and walking up the path to the school
The first person he ran into was Kawamura Takashi.
“Oh, hello Eiji, how are you?” He asked, a smile on his friendly face. Eiji looked at him fondly. He really liked Taka. He was one of the nicest people Eiji had ever known.
“I’m alright Taka, how are you?”
Taka shrugged and nodded, a sign that he was doing alright, and they both turned and began to walk toward the school.
“So, can I ask you a question?” The brunette asked, looking at Eiji almost uncomfortably.
“Sure.”
“Is it true that you are dating Captain Tezuka?”
Eiji froze. He looked toward the other teen with saucer eyes, and swallowed hard. Slowly he nodded, not knowing if it was the right thing to do. Taka smiled again.
“Syuusuke told me you two were together, but I wanted to know if it was for real or not.”
“Fuji..” Eiji said, and his mind was racing. Why would Fuji tell people about them when he didn’t even want them to be together in the first place? Then something else came into his mind.
“Did you say Syusuke?” Eiji asked Taka, knowing that nobody ever called Fuji by his first name, except his family.
Now it was Taka’s turn to blush and look flustered. Eiji couldn’t understand what was going on with him, when yet another bomb dropped on his mind.
“Taka-san, are you with Fuji ?” He asked in almost disbelief. He never in a million years would have seen this one coming. He watched as the other boy turned even more red, and looked at his feet. Then he nodded.
“When did this happen?” Eiji asked, still in shock.
“Last night actually.” Taka answered, a little more confident now, knowing that Eiji wasn’t going to faint from surprise. “He called me, and we went out for dinner, and hooked up. Really though, it has been something that has been building up for awhile, it’s just that neither of us could say anything to the other.”
“I see.” Eiji replied, although he wasn’t sure how he managed to say anything at all. He wondered why Fuji had picked up Taka when he had thought he was getting what he wanted after Eiji had broken up with Tezuka.
“Eiji, are you alright?” Taka asked, “And is that a black eye? How did that happen?”
Eiji felt anything but alright right now, as he had just eyed Fuji walking up, however he kept the smile on his face and said “I’m fine! I just...” He started, but was cut off when Fuji came over and wrapped his arm around Taka’s arm.
“Hello Taka-san.” He said smiling sweetly. He kissed the taller teen on the cheek, bringing a bit of pink out there. Taka scratched the back of his head with his Fuji-less hand and looked at his feet.
“Do you have to call me Taka-san? Can’t you just call me Taka?” He asked.
“But I like Taka-san, does it really bother you that much?” Fuji asked.
“No, I guess not.” Taka said smiling again.
“Thank you.” Fuji said, and Eiji resisted the urge to hit him. Poor Taka, Fuji had him wrapped around one slender little finger.
“Oh good morning Eiji, I didn’t notice you there.” Fuji said, looking at the redhead. For a split second, happy eyes were replaced with a cobalt slit filled with hatred, then it was gone. Eiji had seen it though, and that was the whole point.
“Hello Fuji.” Eiji said quietly.
“Is that a black eye I see? How did that happen?” Fuji asked, interested.
Eiji now had to resist the urge to scream in the other boy’s face “You did this you bastard! Stop trying to be so fucking innocent!” But he didn’t. Instead he took a deep breath, steadied himself and said, “Took a bad swing during a home practice.” he looked to his feet.
“Well aren’t you the clumsy one. You really should be more careful.” Fuji said coldly.
Eiji just glared at him. Fuji turned to look at Taka now. “Let’s go in now Taka-san.” He said.
“Alright. Bye Eiji, see you later.” Taka said. Eiji nodded and watched them walk off. Fuji had become completely insane. Eiji had always known the tendency was there, but he didn’t realize how easily it could come out. He sighed sadly and walked into the building.

Tezuka Kunimitsu woke up from a rather interesting dream. He was playing a match against Inui, and the data tennis player kept telling him he had 0.0001% chance of winning. Finally Tezuka stopped to tell him to shut up or run laps, and he saw it was Kaidoh, and he was preparing to do the Boomerang Snake. That’s when Tezuka woke up and sat up quickly. He got up and went into the bathroom. He used it, and then brushed his teeth. He couldn’t believe he still had a whole other day in this damn hospital. He wanted to get back to his team, and to Eiji. No telling what Fuji was going to do without him there.
Tezuka walked back into the main room and saw that his breakfast had arrived. He moaned at it, missing his normal morning meal. He got back into his bed, hating the thing to high heaven now, after being in it for so long. He just wanted to get up and move around. Walk around outside for awhile. Was that so damn wrong? He was fourteen after all. He grabbed his book from his bedside table, pushed the breakfast tray away from him, and began to read. A few minutes later, his mother came into his room, followed by his doctor. Tezuka looked from his mother’s grim face to the face of the doctor, that was always grim. He set his book down on the table and sighed.
“What is it mother?” He asked. She came over to the bed, again, closely flanked by the doctor, and said...

“Yatta!” Eiji yelled as the ending bell rang. It was time for tennis practice, and then he could go see Tezuka. He ran downstairs, dodging the random non-acrobatic tennis stars, and made his way to the outside locker room. He changed into his practice clothes and sat on the bench waiting. He had been the first one there, as always, and he was always dressed and ready to go before anyone else even got there. He was looking around when he noticed his shoe was untied. As he was tying it, he noticed a rather large figure was looming over him. He looked up and saw Inui Sadahara standing there, notebook in hand, using the other hand to push up his glasses.
“Inui! You are blocking out all of my sunlight!” Eiji complained in a joking manor.
“Judging by where you are sitting, and the time of day, there was no direct sunlight coming in through that window.” The spectacled teen said, looking confused, as if Eiji were trying to throw him off.
“I was just kidding Inui.” Eiji said. “Is there something that you need?”
“Actually, I have it under good authority that you know the current status of Tezuka’s condition. Would you please enlighten me?”
“He will be getting out of the hospital tomorrow evening, and he is going to be just fine.” Eiji told him.
“That is good news, Thanks Eiji.” Inui said, walking away. He saw the freshman eyeing him, and he grabbed his racket and ran out to the court, to avoid anymore questions about Tezuka. Soon the whole tennis club was assembled. They were gathered in small groups of two or three talking about their own things. Eiji watched as Oishi walked into the court, notebooks in hand, and called out.
“Everyone, could I have your attention please?”
The people closest to him looked at him briefly before going back to what they were doing. Everyone further away didn’t even hear him.
“Hey!” He yelled louder. The regulars began to move forward and take heed, but not really enough to quiet everyone else down.
“Please people, can we calm down? Just because Captain Tezuka isn’t here, doesn’t mean we can’t have a productive practice.”
The Seigaku regulars, along with some scattered others began doing what was necessary to get the courts set up for the days practice. The rest of the club, however stood around, talking about random things.
Oishi clapped his hands loudly “Come on people!” he said, trying to get them all motivated. Just then a loud whistling sound came from the other side of the courts. Everyone stopped and turned toward the sound. Eiji nearly passed out on the spot.
Tezuka Kunimitsu stood just inside the fence. His hands on his hips, wearing an expression of extreme disapproval.
“Captain Tezuka....” was heard somewhere
“But I thought he was out sick...” was heard from somewhere else.
Oishi, wearing a look of mixed relief and surprise, jogged over and joined his captain.
“Regulars...100 laps, everyone else, 50 laps.” Tezuka said angrily, looking around at his club, invoking fear in the hearts of the first years.
