Chapter 12
“Well, here we are! Cianwood City.”
Wally looked around. “City? It’s hardly big enough to call a town... They don’t even have a Mart.”
“Nope!” Nimh agreed cheerfully. “But they got a damn good pharmacy, and something even better- a Gym Leader.”
“And that’s better how?? They’d just report us to the League!”
“Not this one.” Nimh replied with a wink. “He’s a good friend of mine, he’ll help us out. Now, to the Gym!”
Wally sighed and trudged after Nimh on the short walk to the Gym, still feeling doubtful. Even if this Gym Leader was a friend, he would still be obliged to tell the League if he spotted a missing Champion.
Nimh stopped at the doors and looked back at his friend, frowning at the worried look on his face. “Hey, have I ever given you reason not to trust me?” he asked softly, earning a curious look from Wally. “I know this guy very well, and he’s not going to give us away, I promise.”
The younger trainer nodded and followed Nimh inside, still feeling a little nervous. It seemed... empty. Nimh “Hmm”ed to himself and looked around, but there wasn’t anyone in sight. “Well, this is odd.”
“You always did like the sickly ones, Nimh.”
Both trainers jumped at the voice. Wally frowned, about to give the owner of that voice a piece of his mind, but Nimh beat him to it.
“Kedri! Get your butt out here now!” He demanded, unable to keep the grin off his face.
Wally watched curiously as a figure slowly limped into view. The Leader was fairly tall, with black hair neatly combed and gentle blue eyes. He leaned on a fairly simple cane, something he obviously needed to walk, and Wally felt a little less like yelling at the man for calling him sickly.
“Hello Wally.” The Leader greeted cheerfully. “Having fun on your vacation?”
“Um... Well...” He simply nodded in response, unable to say how he was really feeling in a nice way.
“Glad to hear it! So, I suppose you need my help, yes?”
“Yeah, we kinda need some place to lay low for a while, Wally got recognized by a couple of girls back in Ecruteak.”
Kedri nodded. “Well you’ve come to the right place. If there’s a secret, it doesn’t leave the island.” He smiled at Wally. “The people here are cool like that.”
Wally smiled back gratefully.
