Chapter XII
DN Mpreg XII:
It had been about a week now since they had rescued Matsuda from his pending death, and judging by the fact he was still alive, the men at Yotsuba were none the wiser. Matsuda had been so grateful that he had shown up the next morning with a large bag of sweets for L and had fetched coffee for everyone for the whole day without protest. Thanks to Matsuda, they were one step closer to catching Kira and now that Wedy had managed to hack their security system, all they had to do was wait for the next meeting. Friday evening came sooner than they thought and everyone was on the edge of their seats waiting for the Yotsuba meeting to start. The first thing notable was that there were only seven out of the eight members, the other presumably killed by the others. And then it happened:
"For the sake of the company, who should we kill next?" Everyone jumped at these words.
"See, I told you so!" Mastuda almost jumped up and down with excitement.
"Hush, Matsuda-san, we can't hear what's going on," L said firmly, "This is bad news..."
As more of the meeting unfolded, they found out what had happened to the eighth member and how little the others cared for their colleague. Then they moved onto Erald Coil's report, which had been plotted and devised by Aiber and L. The report also contained some information about L, and L anticipated to see the reaction of the Yotsuba members, and just as he had assumed, they were starting to panic at the thought of L being on to them by the times they killed, which was mostly at weekends. After a short discussion, they decided to get back to their main subject and that was who they were going to kill this weekend. What L was most intrigued to find out was that Kira had others means of killing than heart attacks.
"It all matches up Ryuuzaki," Light said with some hope in his voice that he could be at last proven innocent, "Everything we theorised."
L stirred his pocky stick in his coffee. "That may be so but until the people mentioned die, it's not enough." He balanced a stack of marshmallows on his spoon, stacking one on top of the other. "We should continue to observe the actions of the seven until somebody dies... we will definitely catch Kira."
"Ryuuzaki!" Light and his father yelled at the same time causing L to drop his tower of marshmallows. He gave out an annoyed sigh.
"What is it?" he said, now fishing around in his bowl for his fallen marshmallows.
"I can't agree with what you're doing. It's not right," Light protested, "We can't let those seven kill in order to catch Kira..."
"Surely Light is right," Soichiro Yagami began, "I mean with the footage we have here and Matsuda's testimony we can catch Kira."
"No, I'm afraid that will not work. If we catch the seven now we might not ever be able to find out which one is Kira. We need to narrow it down first," the ravenhead detective explained.
"Light give me the number of one of the seven. We need to stop the killings." Light's father grabbed the phone, but stared at the keypad, not sure what to press.
"Yagami-san, in order to catch Kira we need solid evidence. If we act now we could blow Aiber's cover."
"Then in that case," Light replied on his right side, brow knitted in deep thinking, "Ryuuzaki, I'm going to borrow the name of L. If I was to call someone who was least like Kira yet had a
large enough influence on the group..."
"Namikawa!" L, Yagami-san and Matsuda said at the same time.
"If you want to do this then I suggest you use this phone. It's untraceable." L pointed to the phone beside him. Light leaned over and for a few moments his hand was very close to L's. Light made the call and everyone watched eagerly as Light pretending to be L and started to make a deal with Namikawa. It seemed to have worked because as soon as the conversation on the phone had finished, Namikawa followed through exactly what Light had asked, which was to post-pone any killing.
"That's quite impressive, Light-kun; you've not only delayed the killings but we now have Namikawa as an informant. Your plan was similar to mine, yet you thought of it faster," L complimented Light who stood behind him. "If I were to die... then I'm sure Yagami-kun could succeed me as L."
Light looked down at the detective and locked eyes with him. L's eyes became a vacuum and sucked in as much detail as they could. He knew that L did not actually mean for him to succeed him; it was just a ploy to see if Light would take the bait and his percentage of being Kira would rise. So instead, he ignored it. "We now have another month to investigate. I suggest we start right away."
"The first to notice Yotsuba was indeed Yagami-kun. I think you might have more talent than even me. If I were to die, would you take on the name of L?" Light was unsure by these words; he didn't want anything to happen to L, but he knew why L asked such a thing, although he only wished they didn't have to talk about it in front of the others.
"What are you saying, Ryuuzaki? As long as you and me are together," he lifted his chained wrist again to emphasise, "we'll die together." Though Light knew what L meant, but it still ticked him off. "Oh I see... Ryuuzaki, I'm going to tell everyone exactly what you're thinking right now. You think that if I am Kira, then right now I am Kira but I'm acting as if I don't know it or I've passed on the power to someone else. I'm sure these are two thought patterns you came up with. Thus if I were acting, you'd never take off the handcuffs and even if I wasn't acting you wouldn't take them off either. Ryuuzaki thinks that if I had the power to be Kira and gave it to someone else then I would try to find an opportunity that I would once again regain that power. In other words, I gave up the power deliberately to fool everyone and plan on one day returning it somehow."
'Amazing he was able to reason out what I was thinking all along.' L thought as he took in Light's explanation.
"Kira becoming L would be the ideal position, he would have control over the police and have the freedom to move around wherever he wants. If I were Kira, I could and would do what you're thinking right now."
"Yes?"
"But what about this? Me saying this in front of everyone should prove I'm not pretending."
"Yet what if all this is still part of some act?"
"Ryuuzaki, do you think I have the power to become Kira, a killer, after catching the current Kira?" His hazel eyes looked deep into L's panda eyes, trying to find a flicker of hope.
"I believe it's possible."
After all this and L still didn't want to prove Light was innocent. After all they'd been through so far, L was still determined to prove Light was Kira even if it meant arresting the father of his child. A surge of rage rippled though Light, and before he knew it, his fist had come in contact with L's face while he had a grubby foot shoved into his own.
"Break it up!" Matsuda said pulling the two off each other. Obviously the pair was under a lot of stress and L wondered if he perhaps needed some sexual relief.
"You're right Matsuda-san," Light wiped the dirt from the bottom of L's feet off his face, "We should concentrate on the current Kira. As long as we wear the handcuffs that shouldn't be a problem."
"That's right," L said as he turned away to grab some more coffee and ignore Light, "We only have a month." L stood up and stretched his legs, getting out all the kinks.
"Where are we going, Ryuuzaki?"
"To Misa's room. I need to ask her a favour, and since you're chained to me, you'll have to come with me."
So that was L's plan; to use Light to manipulate Misa into gaining what he wanted. He was going to use her to get closer to Yotsuba as their model in their advertisements. Light wasn't too sure about putting Misa in danger at first, but then he thought of L and the baby. L assured Light that Misa would be in safe hands and that he would insure nothing would happen to her. Light felt some jealousy when Misa gave L a kiss on the cheek but it didn't last long. Finally, evening set upon them and L was feeling a little less tired than usual.
____________________________
L was sitting up in bed and gazed down at Light's face. He debated on how to wake the younger male so he could follow him into the bathroom. His bladder was on the verge of spilling. He was still a little irritable with Light, but he knew there was no reason to be other than he was doing exactly what he was told to do. He wished that he had the key to unlock his handcuff and run to the bathroom and back, but the only one in possession of such an item was Watari; L did not carry it on his person because it would be dangerous to carry such an item so close to his number one suspect of being a mass murderer. But if he did have the key, he would tie his length of the chain around the headboard and cuff Light's other hand. However, there was still that chance that Light could do something, and there was still the fact that no key for the handcuffs existed in the room at that moment.
So L would have to wake up Light or pee in the bed.
He licked his lips and stretched out his pointer finger and poked Light in the shoulder. When the brunet did not awaken, he poked him again. Then he gently shook his shoulder.
"Light-kun," he said softly, "Light-kun."
Light made grunting noise in his throat. His eyebrows wrinkled and he sighed through his nose, then his face relaxed. L would have admired how beautiful he looked when he was asleep, but he could not wait much longer.
"Light-kun," he said again, shaking his shoulder.
This time Light did open his eyes, looking at L's silhouette in the dark. "Wha-? Whasgonon?"
"I have to use the restroom."
Light looked at him confused, but realised what he was talking about and nodded. "Right, right." A few more grunts and he threw his legs off the bed and shuffled behind L to the bathroom.
Light stood against the wall, listening to the sound of L's urine dripping into the toilet bowl. The fluorescent lights in the bathroom were too blinding, so he kept his head down and eyes closed. He felt the chain jiggle and heard the sound of the toilet flushing. After several more seconds of L not saying he was done, Light opened his eyes and discovered a bizarre, yet still amusing sight.
The ravenhead was standing in front of the mirror, hands on his stomach. His fingers gently touched his shirt, feeling his abdomen through the white cotton.
"Everything okay?" Light asked.
L looked back at him, then turned to face him. He grabbed the front of his shirt and lifted it up to show Light his tummy, and he did not speak a word. Light wasn't sure what he was supposed to be seeing, though he did see that amazingly, L's stomach had evolved from a slight flab of fat to a more round bulb.
"You're showing more," he stated aloud.
"Yes...it appears I am." His pale fingers traced under his swelling abdomen, "And I'm starting to get stretch marks."
Light cocked his head and stepped forward. Then he lowered himself on one knee to inspect L's stomach. He touched the pearl coloured skin, feeling how smooth and silky that milky skin actually was. L twitched at his touch, but did not shy away and continued to hold up his shirt. There was indeed the faint pink vertical marks of his skin being stretched. He traced over the marks. He counted five marks, varying of different lengths. They were slightly more raised, but still beautiful. He licked his lips when the desire to press them against the skin came, but he fought the urge.
"How far along are you now?" he asked softly.
"About three and a half months," he answered, "Maybe even four."
"Four months," Light repeated in a whisper. That meant that in five months, the baby would be born. A slight panic arose within himself. Could he be prepared in five months? Would it be a boy or a girl...or... A flash of the image he remembered in his dream crossed his mind, but he quickly shook it out. Underneath his fingers, his offspring was growing. It still seemed surreal to him.
That was his baby.
"I'm sorry I hit you earlier today... I just got rather frustrated," Light said as his hands continued to feel L's stomach.
"It's fine. I also hit you. We should go back to bed," the pregnant man stated.
Light craned his neck to see L looking down at him. His large onyx eyes gleamed down at him. He looked back down at L's abdomen, imagining what the little fetus would look like inside. He made a mental note to look it up. He placed his hand over the swollen bulb and looked back up at L.
"You're starting to show through your clothes."
"Yes, I can't wear jeans anymore."
Light slowly stood back up, relieving his knees of his weight. "You might want to start wearing sweat pants. But, they're gonna notice that you're getting...bigger."
"Yes, I will have to come up with a way to inform them about--" He suddenly stopped and grabbed his stomach with both hands, eyes slightly wide.
"What? What's going on?" Light asked him, slight alarm in his voice.
L grabbed his hand and placed it back on his stomach and held his hand over Light's. Light's eyes widened slightly because he knew there was only one reason why L wanted him to feel his stomach so urgently. He wondered what it would feel like. When his mother was pregnant with his sister, he remember putting his hands on his mother's belly, but could not remember if he felt anything. They waited patiently for a few minutes, but still Light did not feel any particular movement.
"Did you feel that?" L asked him.
Light frowned. "I can't feel anything, Ryuuzaki."
He saw disappointment in those raven eyes. "Oh."
The brunet looked down at their hands, L's on top of his and both on his stomach. He did not want to remove it. "What does it feel like?"
He watched L's lips twitch into a smile. "It's feels like...little butterflies."
Heat pooled into Light's pants when he saw how incredibly cute the pregnant ravenhead was. The way his skin glowed brightly in the blinding white lights, the way his crow black hair complimented his snow white, porcelain skin, his sharp cheek bones, narrow chin, straight nose, pouty lips, slender neckline, bony shoulders slightly hunched, thin arms, long fingers... Caramel eyes took in every detail before him, studying the pregnant detective's body like a sculpture of David created by Michelangelo.
He thought of Darwin, the father on the theory of evolution, and wondered if L was perhaps the next step of the human race. Though medically, scientifically, and ideologically incorrect and impossible, L had broken through those barriers to bring forth a new nature of change. By definition, L was a freak of nature, different and set apart from the rest, yet he was the most beautiful error Light had seen. He had always noticed L's effeminate traits, but knowing that he was an androgynous, he could not help but think of that being the perfect gender. He felt the crotch of his pants slightly swell as his mind supplied delicious images and memories of the nights they spent wrapped up in each others arms, slick with sweat, and moaning with pleasure. He remembered those eyes, how strong and lifelike they were, and even now when they had severed their sexual ties, they were still bright.
"We should go to bed," he said in a low voice.
L wanted that to have another meaning other than to sleep. He wanted Light to kiss him. He wanted those warm hands back on him. He wanted Light to bend him over and screw his brains out and make him cum over and over until there was nothing left of him but hollow air. He wanted to hold his throbbing cock in his hands as he stroked it up, down, up, down and feel the splatter of his warm seed on his hand. He wanted Light's chest against his back, his hands wrapped around his stomach as he thrusts harder and deeper, and L would moan and groan in pleasure because he could never keep the lock on his voice box tight enough when he was being screwed by the younger brunet. The need, the want, the desire bubbled on his skin, made his mouth fill with drool--
And yet he agreed for he knew he had made his choice clear to him and that Light would respect it. They sauntered back into the bedroom and climbed into their designated posts on the opposite sides of the king sized bed (complimentary of Watari being afraid L would fall off his twin size) and stared at the wall whilst ignoring their hard-ons.
Neither suspect nor detective slept.
_________________________________________________________________
The next morning, L was exhausted. Not the good exhaustion of a satisfactory night of love-making, but the exhaustion of being pregnant and not getting a full night sleep which resulted in him being bitchy and grouchy. And poor Light was his victim. He knew L was in a bad mood by the way he sulked and pouted and only gave one word answers.
"Coffee isn't good for the baby," Light said, fumbling through the cabinets, "Do you want tea instead?"
"Sure."
"Do you want milk with it?"
"No."
Light looked back at the detective that stood behind him, a little ways away as if he were afraid Light would bite him. Because his jeans were causing discomfort, L was wearing navy blue sweat pants instead. Even his overlarge shirt seemed a little tighter, and Light wondered if he were unaware of L's pregnancy, would he suspect anything? Would the others notice? Mogi and his father would most likely keep their mouth shut about L's weight gain, but Matsuda had an idiosyncrasy of blurting out statements or questions before thinking it over. And L was not looking fat, but he was getting noticeably bigger. They could blame it on L's sugar and junk food intake, or as a last resort, blame it on alcohol consumption and call it a beer gut.
However, no matter their excuses, they were going to have to tell them eventually. Chronic IBS did not seem legitimate enough for when L goes into labour.
That brought another thought. While he made coffee (tea for L), he gandered a look at the detective and caught his eyes. He took a deep breath and asked, "Ryuuzaki...how exactly can this baby be born?"
L lifted and dropped one shoulder in a strange shrug. "Dunno."
"What do you--Look, there isn't really a way for it to be born naturally, unless you're gonna--" He stopped himself right there, not liking the image his brain had constructed from his thoughts.
The detective cocked his head to the side, "Unless I what?"
"Never mind," he said, shaking his head, "We can ask the doctor. Do you know when your next appointment is?"
"Yes."
"....And?"
"It's today, Light-kun."
"Today? What about the others? We've only got a month left to catch Kira."
"Yes, but it would be troublesome to have to explain why I needed yet another doctor's appointment." L took the cup of warm tea that Light handed him and then proceeded to drop in five sugar cubes without tasting it. "Matsuda-san has made me aware that he is troubled by my health and stress. If we do tell them about my pregnancy, I have a feeling that Matsuda will be the one to setup a baby shower."
Light laughed, but it was shallow and awkward. "I'd hate to say this, but I'm weary of telling the others. My father's health is not that well, and telling him news that I got another man pregnant...My dad accepted my sexuality, but I think he may have a little trouble accepting this. Especially after we lied to him about our relationship."
"On the contrary," the ravenhead said, "I carefully chose my words and told him that we were not in a homosexual relationship currently."
"Going through loopholes, huh?"
"But your father is still smart. He most likely still suspects us, but of course, he would not be happy that you got me pregnant." L and Light sat at the table with their coffee and tea. "And why is Light-kun afraid? He is not the one that is pregnant. Even though you are the one who took me and impregnated me, Light-kun will still be seen as the victim. Surely I must have seduced him to perform such acts, they will think."
"Ryuuzaki!" Light yelled, slamming his hand on the table.
L gently lifted his eyes up, not surprised by Light's actions. "Hm? Do you not believe that is what they will assume, even though it is the opposite?"
"I'll tell them the truth about us," he said, "I'll tell them that I initiated it and that I seduced you."
"But Light-kun, I'm older than you. I should have stopped it, but I didn't. They will see this."
"I'll stick up for you! Surely they have to see that I should've stopped and said no, too. They can't blame you for anything without also blaming me."
L blinked once at him. "Why is Light-kun so troubled by this?
The brunet looked down at his black coffee in his hands. "Because...I want to be here. My father might not want me to be around you, but I can't really blame him. If I had gotten Misa pregnant, he might be okay with that, but since I got you pregnant and you..."
"Have a penis?"
"...Yeah. He might not like that too much."
L slurped his tea and added three more sugar cubes to it. "But has Light-kun forgotten that he is of legal age and can do things without his parents' consent? Yes, Yagami-san may be very angry and suggest that you stop coming around, but ultimately it will be up to you to decide."
Light gave a huff make-shift laugh. "I guess you're right. It sounds like some kind of sappy love story."
Another silence between them. The hissing of the coffeemaker and L's slurping were the only sounds.
"How did you get the others to agree to not coming in today? I would expect them to be excited now that we have new leads."
"It was Watari that told them, not I. But he did say that they could come by later."
"What did he say to them?"
"I'm not too sure. Most likely he said that one of us was not feeling good and needed more rest." He sipped his tea. In truth, he knew exactly what Watari had said, but Light would most definitely not like it that Watari had told them that he was suffering from severe diarrhoea; he had made it very clear that Light was not Watari's favourite person.
"When are we going to leave?" he asked.
"Watari will call us when it is time to leave." He got up from the table to search for food that he was craving, which was currently bananas. He ripped one off the stalk and brought it back to the table. "I'm told that Dr. Uramura will be examining my insides to see if the baby is in a good place to be, and not in my colon. I'm not sure how they're going to go about that, but there's not much I can do."
Light then watched incredibly amused as L stripped the banana of it's outer skin, not by pulling it down with his fingers, but biting the tip with his teeth and tugging it off. Then he bit down on one of the slits and tugged one sleeve down, all while only holding onto the banana with just his thumb and finger. He then proceeded to do the same thing to the rest until the banana was naked and ready to be eaten.
L bit into the top and looked up and saw Light staring at him. "Can I help you with something?"
"Erm, no," he said, feeling slightly uncomfortable after watching L's act, "Is there anything else I can get you?" Any other fruit you can perform fellatio on?
"I'll probably have another banana later," he said.
Watari called them after a few minutes and they joined him in the car. The way to the hospital was starting to become very familiar to them. They entered through the same door, into the same waiting room, and waited for the same female doctor and nurse. Their visits were a constant day of deja vu.
"We're ready for you, Ken'ichi-kun," Dr. Uramura said when she came into view.
Just like before, Light was handcuffed to Watari and L was led back into the examination room. He was asked to change into a gown, which he did so in the restroom. Inside was a little different than before. The patient table with the dreaded paper covering was still there, but this time there were what looked like two sonogram machines, and at the end of the table were stirrups for his feet.
'Oh no...' he thought as he felt a sick feeling in his stomach.
"If you'll hop up here and put your feet here," Dr. Uramura ordered, "We usually do a pap smear with women, but you're a much different case, but it will almost be the same."
L swallowed and obeyed her and put his feet on the stirrups, leaving him wide and opened. He was not quite sure what to make of this or how she would go about giving him an examination that only women went through, but he was a detective, not a doctor. This was beyond his field of expertise.
He sucked in a gasp when he felt the doctor's cold gloved fingers enter into him without any hesitation. Her finger was lubed, but it was different since his ring and insides were starting to tingle.
"This is a numbing stimulant," she told him, "This way it will not cause too much discomfort with you." It was working. His insides were become numb and rapidly it spread until his entire bottom seemed to just melt away. However, his eyes widened when the doctor took a white towel off a tray of instruments. Their shiny metal sparkled in the bright lights of the examination room.
Dr. Uramura chose one tool that looked like a medieval torture device. "This is a speculum," she said, "It will help me see inside you by spreading your rectal walls. I'm going to insert an endoscope into you and see what I usually can't with the camera. Usually we sedate the patient when we do this, but because of your...condition, that is not an option. But, I should not have to go far."
L had a very short list of what he liked to have inserted into his rectum; a speculum was not on this list. He grabbed the sides of the table when it was shoved inside him and then cranked to spread him apart. Though he could not actually feel it, he did feel some pressure and he knew that sometime later when the numbing concoction wore off, he was going to be hurting.
"W-Where's Nurse Joi?" L asked, not seeing the smiling face of the woman.
"She's out of town today," she answered.
L looked up at the tile ceiling. He did not want to think about what was going on between his legs, but that proved to be a hard task. He decided that the next time Light got on his nerves, he would set up an appointment with Dr. Uramura for him.
"Okay, let's see that what the scope sees." Dr. Uramura turned on a monitor that was connected to the scope and L saw the pink and orange tissue that was inside him. He felt sick. After this, he would not be surprised if he never got turned on again.
"This is your prostate," she said, "And this..." She leaned forward, studying the monitor, "This is very interesting."
L did not need to be a doctor to know what she was talking about. Just above his prostate was a very small opening that forked out of his intestine. It was known to both of them that it was something that was not supposed to be there.
"That must be how you got pregnant," Dr. Uramura said, "The opening must allow semen to travel into the ovaries."
'Next time I'll practise safe sex,' L thought.
_____________________________________________________
Light and Watari sat in the chairs, flipping through the magazines left for them to read. Light was currently looking through prom dresses while Watari looked through the tourist sites of Japan. He checked his watch and looked at the wooden door that L had passed through twenty minutes earlier.
"I hope Ryuuzaki is okay," he muttered.
Watari heard him and shifted, "He would not need to be here at all if you had practised safer sex."
Light gave the older man a look as he watched Watari lick his fingers and flip the magazine article to the many shrines. He looked at the magazine rack nearby and noticed one that caught his attention. He leaned over and grabbed it, immediately catching Watari's eye. The magazine was about maternity clothes and baby supplies. Copying L's caretaker, Light licked his fingers and flipped through the pages. Watari shifted.
"Hm," he said aloud when he saw a pair of jeans similar to L's style except with an elastic and cotton band. As he tore it out, he made sure that it caught the man's attention.
____________________________________________________
He hated the doctor, he hated the doctor, he hated the doctor, he hated the doctor...
The mantra was repeated in his mind over and over. His hands covered his face from embarrassment. His feet were back down where they needed to be and he was on his back, but after what he had to go through, he would never return to the hospital if it was the last thing he'd do. He had more instruments shoved in places that he would never mention again. Why he even needed to wear a gown was beyond him; it was now pushed up to his chest with a white towel draped over his privates. Now the examination took a much better turn for him, inspecting his abdomen with cold gloved fingers. Dr. Uramura listed off the different organs she was feeling underneath, but he was only half listening. She paused to write stuff things
down what she saw.
"Interesting..." she would say, "...very interesting..." It was starting to make him feel like a science experiment.
L looked through his fingers at the ceiling.
"I'll print off an image of what I hypothesise your body looks like on the inside." She stood up and took her stack of notes in hand. "I'll return in ten minutes. Thank you for your cooperation, Ken'ichi-kun."
She left. L sat up and rearranged his gown. "Ow, ow, ow," he hissed. The numbing agent had worn off and his rectum was beyond sore by the doctor's earlier examination. He hated this, he hated this whole thing. He hated his doctor, he hated being pregnant, he hated Light for getting him pregnant...
__________________________________________________
Light covered his mouth when he sneezed, then wiped his hand with a tissue. The maternity magazine he had been reading to get on Watari's nerves was now starting to interest him. He realised that they would need to begin getting things for the baby such as clothes, cribs, baby clothes, boppies, and other things that interested him and arose new questions, such as would L need a breast pump?
Of course, seeing such things also made him quite anxious. He was aware that time was running out and soon the baby would be here, but he was having second thoughts; would it be safe to have a child in a world with Kira in it? Either way, there was no choice; they were having a baby, and they were going to capture Kira.
Yet, he remembered that L had not given him a solid answer to whether or not he was going to abort or keep the baby, though the chances of having an abortion (legally) was growing slim; then again, L could have an abortion anytime since he is male. But if L was considering an abortion, why was he even putting in any effort of the baby's well-being? In fact...why was he the only one concerned (besides Watari) of the baby's health? L ate whatever he pleased unless forced not to, he never discussed what things were needed, never bothered to talk about it at all unless Light initiated it, and L would either change the subject or snap some Kira theories in his direction. However, Light could not really blame him, either. He could only imagine that inner turmoil that L was going through, having to play detective while his body went under extreme changes. And what if the baby would cause damage to him? What if the best choice...would be to terminate it?
Light closed the magazine, no longer in the mood to look at it. He remembered L's last bitter words the last he had confronted the detective about letting him keep the child...
"A child does not need both parents in order to be raised properly. You can carry on as being a normal teenager as you should."
So why should Light even bother? If L did not terminate the pregnancy, he would take the baby and leave forever. He even said himself that if and when they catch Kira, he would leave Japan. There really did not seem to be a chance for them. He was brought out of his daydream by the doctor calling him and Watari inside.
_____________________________________________________
L was laying down on the examination table next to an ultrasonography machine. His top had been lifted to expose the porcelain white skin of his stomach. His stomach was certainly larger, although to most people it looked normal since L's usual build was skinny. Light thought he was looking better than before now that he'd put on some weight due to the baby. The doctor instructed Light and Watari to stand next to L on the opposite side of the machine as she squirted lubricant on to L's stomach and pressed the transducer against it.
"I have been able to determine where exactly the baby is located," she explained, "As you can see here this is Ken'ichi-kun's womb." The image now showed the womb with the baby. L's eyes grew wide as he saw how big the baby had grown from his last appointment. It was starting to look like a small human inside him.
Light and Watari were also shocked at the image they saw. At first they had believed L but it did not quite sink in until now. Caramel eyes stayed glued on the monitor. He nearly jumped when he saw the fetus move about; did L feel that? Another wave of panic washed over him; what was he going to do? What if he was Kira? What if....
His inner turmoil thoughts were interrupted as the doctor continued her explanation. "Here you can see it's attached to his small intestine just behind where his prostate is." Her finger circled that area on the screen to point it out. "There is a small opening there big enough to allow sperm though and also the angle his womb is at makes sure no waste can get in there. It seems his internal organs have adapted around the baby so everything seems to be okay so far. You're not feeling any discomfort are you, Ken'ichi-kun?"
"None at all so far," L replied.
"Good, then we'll take a look at the baby." She now zoomed in on the image of the fetus. There it was, a mini-human with a head, body, arms and legs. They were all there and nicely formed, although the baby was a little off of proportion, but the doctor assured them that in the next few weeks the baby would grow into the right shape. L watched the screen curiously and thinking about what he was going to do. The whole situation was so unexpected and bizarre that it had taken them all by surprise. There were times when he hated it all, much like earlier, yet there were also times when he felt oddly lucky. This feeling mostly came when he was seeing how healthy his baby was becoming. The doctor set about pressing buttons on the machine and it measured the baby, showing that everything seemed perfectly fine. It appeared the baby was healthy despite L's poor diet.
"Do you want to hear the heartbeat?" she asked, not just L, but also Light.
Caught off guard by her question directed at him, he looked down at the pregnant man beside him. Large obsidian eyes looked up at him, and he nodded his head. Then L twitched and giggled. "It keeps moving."
Light smiled and could not describe the feeling. He wondered what if felt like to have something that alive move inside you. He wondered if it really did feel like little butterflies. He looked at Dr. Uramura. "Yeah, let's here the heartbeat."
She pushed another button and Light was visibly startled. The sound echoed in the room, a continuous and rapid pumping sound. It was the final evidence that his son or daughter was alive. He felt very protective of L all of a sudden, and gripped his shoulder. L even placed his hand over Light's. It was their baby and he wouldn't let anything happen to it.
She took some pictures of the baby and handed it to them. "These are pictures of the ultrasound," she said, "It shows the baby at different angles."
Light took the photographs. "Do you know if it is a boy or a girl?"
"We won't know until it develops more. Ken'ichi-kun, have you made your decision?"
The two parents looked at each other and locked eyes. It was clear to them that they had both made up their mind by now even though they had never talked about what exactly they were going to do.
L nodded his head. "Yes...I've decided I'm going to keep it."
Dr. Uramura nodded. "Then you will want to know when it will be due." L grabbed Light's hand and squeezed. "Now, remember, the baby could be early or late, so don't worry too much about it." She took out a calendar and counted the days. "Let's see...you're almost four months so..."
Light's heart thumped strongly against his chest. He gripped the pregnant detective's hand, wondering if he could feel the sweat on his palms. The date...the due date...
"March eighth."
The date was set. It was in view, and it was real.
As they said their farewell to the doctor and Watari arranged a new appointment, Light couldn't help but give L a smile. He only hoped now that they could catch Kira before the baby was born.
L and Light sat in the back of the car; both were feeling content after the doctor's visit. Light's hand reached subtly for L's.
"I'm glad you're keeping the baby," he suddenly said, "does this mean..."
"It means I'd like to wait until we've determined you aren't Kira before you and I continue anything," L replied but did not pull his hand away.
"I understand, Ryuuzaki, if that's what you want then it's fine by me," He kissed the detective on the cheek reassuringly and L did not protest. He hoped once they had captured Higuchi it would all be over and they could continue their relationship.
"Light-kun, you seem so relaxed?" the ravenhead said, but it was more in the line of a question.
"Why shouldn't I be relaxed, Ryuuzaki?"
"Well, becoming a father is one thing, but then finding out that the baby resides inside a pregnant male's body is another."
"You really underestimate me at times. Ryuuzaki, I really care about you and you having our baby won't change that. I know I'm only 18 but I know it's what I want now." He gave a smile which L returned. "Everything will be okay in the end."
When the car pulled up in front of the building, they both knew it was back to the detective and suspect routine. L placed at hand on his stomach. 'Our baby,' he thought and thinking that it had a nice sound to it.
The examination left him a little sore, but L walked carefully to the elevator. His right hand felt balanced with the handcuff back in place. While in the elevator, Light gave L a little hopeful smile. The rest of the afternoon was spent catching up on the work they had missed during their doctor visit. Light's father dropped by with some clean underwear for him which made Light flush with embarrassment and give a questioning look at L. The ravenhead laughed silently at his partner's misfortune. Matsuda had tagged along too and was looking at L who didn't really seem to mind at all.
"Hey Ryuuzaki, can I ask you something?"
"Other than that last question? I guess you can."
"How come you're not sitting in your usual way?"
L paused in munching on his cracker. He was seated in his favourite chair Indian style because sitting in his usual way made it a little too difficult. No one else had said anything, but leave it to Matsuda to point out the obvious. "My legs were getting sore."
"But didn't you say that your thinking abilities drop by forty percent?"
"But if I sit like this, it will only drop fifteen percent, and Light-kun is smart so he can help with the fifteen percent that I've lost."
The said brunet took a sip of his drink to hide his smirk, knowing that what L was saying was complete bogus.
"If your legs are sore, Ryuuzaki, I can give you a message."
L's large eyes blinked at him and Light sputtered some of his drink down his shirt. Luckily, a message popped up on the screen from Mogi.
"Ryuuzaki, it's Mogi. Misa-misa gave me the slip during one of her filming sessions and has disappeared."
"What?" came a few cries from the others but L remained calm. Mogi came in and told them all in person what had taken place.
After taking a bite out of his cracker, L spoke up, "I can understand. Misa probably wants to have some fun after all this observation."
"I hope there's nothing more to it," Light pondered, saying his thoughts aloud. In the meantime L's mind was buzzing with thoughts as to why Misa would do such a think and now was refusing to answer Light's calls as he tried to contact her. The only thing he could come up with is that something was going on.
"She still won't answer," Light said again after a third phone call.
"She must have her phone off," L stated, "Since we don't know where she is or what she is planning, we'll just have to wait for her to return or call us."
"I guess we have no other choice," he said with a sigh, then looked up and saw Matsuda was still staring at L with admiring eyes. It wasn't a problem, at first, but now that it had continued, he could feel it gnawing thin on his nerves, yet there wasn't really anything he could do without the others lifting a few eyebrows; ever since Matsuda's falling off the balcony stunt, he had been more fond of L's company than usual.
"You look very nice today, Ryuuzaki," he piped up again. The detective turned his head and stared at him. "Can I...Can I get you anything?"
"You can get me some more tea, Matsuda. Thank you," L replied as Matsuda joyfully took his cup and saucer and went off to do his chore.
Slowly the hours ticked by of them doing nothing. L was eating yet another banana; it seemed to be a craving he could not suffice. Soichirou pulled his son aside, as far as the chain could go without tugging on Ryuuzaki's arm, and whispered in his ear:
"I'm a little concern, Light. L wasn't planning all this, was he?"
Light shook his head. "No, this was not part of his plan. Misa seems to be going on her own accord."
Soichirou nodded. "I see. Do you think he's taking this seriously?"
"Ryuuzaki?"
"Yes. He seems to concentrating on eating bananas than worrying about Misa."
"Well there's not much we can do. And Ryuuzaki is a bit tiffed that Misa is not going by his plan."
"Oh." Soichirou cupped his chin. "I can't help but think that something is different about him, but I don't exactly know much about him, do I?"
"Erm, what do you mean something different?"
"Well, this is the first time I've seen him sit differently, and it's the first time I've seen him wear anything other than his usual blue jeans. He also appears to have more colour to him also. Perhaps being with you has helped him."
"Yes, Light-kun has indeed been a good influence on me, hasn't he?" They both turned to look at L who was the one who had spoken. "My hearing does not stop at whatever is two feet away from me."
"Ah, sorry Ryuuzaki." Light took a seat next to L and his father stared at them for a few seconds before doing something else. Matsuda returned with L's tea and a small handfill of sugar cubes.
After several hours, Misa returned happy and giddy and everyone released a sigh of relief. When she walked through those doors, she announced a very valuable piece of information.
"Liiiight!" came her high pitch squeal, "It's Higuchi! Higuchi is Yotsuba's Kira!"
