Scenario 12: The only way Three (Black) can win Ten (Red) back is by finishing first in a marathon.
Content Level: Lime-scented fluff
Warnings: None
"The rules will be as follows: Number one, nobody so much as touches Red for a week afterwards unless they're the winner... or me."
"Why you?" Barry piped up.
"'Cause I'm his goddamned boyfriend," Blue growled. "Number two, there will be no involvement of Pokemon in any capacity for this task.."
Black was lined up alongside quite a few others, listening to Blue railing off the rules of the competition. Red stood next to him, dressed as he always was, looking almost bored - which was just part of his charm. He didn't seem to mind, at all, that he was basically being treated as a prize. Well, Black had decided - he must've been confident that Black would win. He was not one to treat people as objects.
"...Third, you're not to cheat in any other way."
Black took the time to look at the rest of the lineup.
Lucas and Ethan were busy sizing each other up - they were about the same age, almost similar physiques too; it wasn't a surprise. Black also knew the two of them were intensely competitive - with luck, they'd wear each other out.
"Fourth, you're not to try to circumvent rule three. If it's cheating, it's cheating, and Red and I reserve the right to disqualify you."
Silver looked almost angry at the rules. Black noted that this meant he would likely try anyway - he'd have to keep his eyes open. He was still amused to see him participating - on the rare occasion they'd been able to talk, Black had pegged him as far too shy to openly compete for a chance at someone.
"Fifth, no taking shortcuts. That is definitely cheating. We'll know if you do, too," Gary popped open a Pokeball, the light manifesting into a Pidgeotto at his side.
Barry looked ready to bound over the finish line as it was. He didn't seem to grasp the concept of a marathon as opposed to a race. Blue seemed to notice Barry's impatience and made up another rule on the spot to match him.
"Sixth, if you try to start early, we'll give you a minute penalty."
That calmed Barry down, or at least made him back up a little. Black was pretty sure he'd still jump the gun.
There were three other people competing for the rights to Red. One was Black - and one was Cheren. Cheren would be his biggest issue... mostly because Black knew the other had very good self control and a lot of stamina as well. He would be capable of competing with Black using force of will, if it came down to it.
"Seven, if you do win, yes - you have full access to Red for a..." Blue took a breath to stop himself from growling out the next words, "...a full week. But don't you dare think that means you get to... I mean we discussed this but if any of you hurts him doing anything untoward, I will personally untoward you into an early grave."
The last contestant was Wally, who had turned a rather adorable shade of red. He seemed to be here purely for the fun of it. He was asthmatic though, so there was surely no way he could do this for long. Blue seemed to have noticed Wally's blush - and presence - at about the same time, and called him out.
"Hey, Wally? You sure about this?"
Wally nodded nervously. "I'll be fine. I know I won't win, so I won't push myself."
Well, that was good, Black thought. His only worry about Wally, really, was that something would happen to him and Black would be the one nearby who needed to help him. He knew he wouldn't not be able to stop himself from helping.
"So that's it. Any questions? Everyone know the route?"
Black thoughts for a moment, then shook his head. Nobody else had a problem either, and they were all preparing themselves to start off - Ethan, Lucas, and Barry were all crouching down like they were going to make a sprint for it. Black smirked, knowing his victory - and his chance to finally get Red's attention for a week - was secure.
"Then on your mark... get set... go!"
As expected, the crowd of trainers took off at various speeds - Barry had literally torn ahead of the pack, Ethan and Lucas trailing only a little behind him. Wally was left behind quickly, taking little more than a brisk walk and laughing to himself, and Silver had cut a little ahead of Black. Cheren, meanwhile, was keeping pace with Black - clearly he'd been thinking the same about where the competition really lay.
It was about fifteen minutes into the marathon that the two passed Barry, who was passed out under a tree, curled up against Lucas' side - Black had almost wanted to stop and enjoy the adorable little scene before he decided it was time to keep moving. Half an hour later they had caught up to - and gradually overtaken - Silver and Ethan, who had broken into a Pokemon Battle with each other in the middle of the race.
Black chuckled to himself, then looked over to Cheren with a grin. Once they were out of earshot of the others, he made his offer. "Feel like stopping for a quickie?"
"Tortoise and the Hare, Black," Cheren answered, but Black was feeling far more confident now.
"Come on~. Just a quick blow at the roadside or something. All of the rest of the competition is pretty much out of the picture, wouldn't you say?" It took a few minutes of sweet talking, but Cheren to eventually caved to Black's libido. And it wasn't an accident that Black lathered Cheren with affection - the other very quickly realised that Black had done everything he could to wear the other out.
And so it was that Black reached the end of the marathon, grinning wide at Blue at the finish line. "There. I'm the winner!" he declared.
"Nope," Blue shook his head. "For one, banging the competition to wear them out is kind of cheating."
"Oh, come on," Black stuck his tongue out. "The whole reason you made us do this was to prove we had the stamina, wasn't it?" he grinned, knowing he was right on the money.
"Yeah, but that's only one thing. For two, you got beat fair and square."
Black dared to ask, or was about to, when he took a look around to find Red - and saw him sitting under a tree with Wally resting in his lap. The other clearly had worn himself out, as he was passed out like a small child in Red's arms.
Cheren finally caught back up to Black at that point, and when he saw the scene for himself, chuckled. "I told you, didn't I?" he chided Black almost mockingly. "Tortoise and the Hare."
